I don't think a 10 should be common! A 10 is like "you can't improve on this, it's the best this combo can be" and I don't think we see many of those. I'm all for strict judges!
Dude, I LOVE that this is a thing that happens. It's competitive, yet, cooperative in a sense. Above all, it is creative and fosters a spirit of friendship and camaraderie in a way that salty 1v1s never could. I would love if everyone had a chance to do something like this after the tournaments are over, to turn over any salty feelings and emotions that might linger on and better build a sense of solidarity and unity within the smash community.

Americans go for the true combos that are technical with some items, like tacos and alvin, Japanese go for hype and rely much more on the items they use and stage rather than their own moves, mainly it is just kysk who only rarely uses items in some of the combos

I felt like they gave out too many 10s. You can't just give out a 10 because a combo is impressive. 10 is the highest possible score, so it should be given to combos where you can comfortably say that nothing should be able to get more points. Imo only 2-3 maaybe 4 were 10s.

Sometimes watching the contestants glorious perform some of these on their tenth and or final try can be super satisfying to see. Smash 64 contests are some of the few feature film long yt exclusives that I would comfortably sit down watching blind.

There are few combos that are worthy of 48-49 points where its like "The combo was really really nice but...". To balance it out, u need like 1-2 fair but strict judges that seriously play the game like Boom and Isai (the hard critics u really gotta impress). 2 fair judges for the general viewer (the average or neutral critic that u must exceed normal expectations to receive a 10). And 1 wildcard that understands hype (the guy that will most likely give u a 10). Its always like this, just look at the NBA slam dunk contest.

Man..... I know the perfect 50 was fucking hype and it truly was, a pure mastery of Pikachu, but god damn nothing beats that 5 lava pong at 5:00 for me. Truly the best combo that has ever been. Can't wait for the next combo contest.
Probably because there's a lot of movement. Most combos in traditional fighting games involve one character wailing on the other while staying mostly still. The technical prowess can be impressive, and flashy animations can make it look snazzy, but it's still mostly stationary. In Smash combos, and especially in Smash 64 combos, and _especially_ in Smash 64 combo contest combos, it's much more dynamic. Characters and projectiles are darting around the screen every which way, and it comes across as less of a beat down and more of a frantic Rube Goldberg of pain.

you’ve also gotta remember that these are a chunk of the best in one video, in a contest where the rest are still good but not as crazy, these ones really stand out and help you appreciate them.
