Oh man. Any Cuckoo is good, but when you get your hands on a FM groovebox, it's a special treat. You really bring FM-based instruments to life like nobody else.
Love seeing how excited you are by this ❤️ big love cuckoo your enthusiasm and love is infectious in the best way. You taught me all I know about the OG DT and DN and I'm excited to pair this with my DT2 🤩
You have the uncanny ability to open a box and make music in 30 seconds. I on the other hand have the uncanny ability to stare at it for 3 months trying to get something useful out of it!!!
elektron box skills partially transfer to new boxes. sure they all have their own beauty but there are a few things that are always the same. this really helps. also the graphics like the little sample rate reduction and bit crush symbols. or delay symbol. elektron has a specific language, we users learn. which makes the logic of a new box just click. cuckoo is a very smart guy but elektron is also very intuitive. cheers.
Cuckoo, thanks for all you do - your approach to tutorials singlehandedly made me feel at home with my Digitakt. Of course, a week before DNII drops I buy a used Digitone Keys. Oh well, I will certainly be going back to watch your OG Digitone tutorials.
I have the digitone I and I still remember your great tutorial, the best avaible: thank you Cuckoo! Now this version seems vastly improved...but I already spent too much for this year...🖖
I just discovered you and i love what you do ! I am a musician, composer, and would like to get a digitone or digitakt. I never did synth or so. But i would love to learn. Do you think it can be hard to learn digitone ? It seems more melodious than digitakt. Do you have a great tutoriel on it ? Thanks !
Just listened to a new BBC radio documentary on music technology called 6 music instrumental. There's a section on FM and the legacy of the dx7. Great to hear Cuckoo on the programme.
Wow thank you so much aleya for your content is really helpful and inspiring, I have a question im thinking on getting a used op 1 or the new digitone 2. I know is not the same but maybe I can get some thoughts about it to help get one. I travel a lot so I like that they are very portable too
❤️ The OP-1 is certainly the more portable one. Although the Digitone 2 is not big, it weighs almost 3 times as much as the OP-1. The OP-1 field has dramatically improved audio quality over the original, which is also something to take into account. I think the Digitone 2 is a synth with incredible depth and high quality sound possibilities. I like the performance aspect of the Digitone as well. For regular song writing though, the OP-1 is probably more straight forward to work with. But the OP-1 field has dramatically improved memory over the original, which is a great improvement for on the go songwriting. The Digitone can run from external powerbanks from MyVolts, but it'll also add to the bulk and weight. The important question is to figure out which sound you really like the most.
Mr. True cuckoo, amazing!!!!! Since last weekend I purchased myself a DN2 🎉 But are you planning a full DN2 tutorial from scratch for people not familiar with Digitone at all???
Cuckoo! Something about the lyrics snapped Me back to the group Yamo! But then I was like “Naw…they WISH!!! 😂” Great moody vibescape for Your joyful style!
I remember this first one being really fun in concept, but too limited in its menu hopping and visuals, with pad keys that were just too loose and clicky. Absolutely beautiful warm yellow light on the first one, though. I already know the Digitone 2 isn't for my kind of brain, just as the first one was, but would be the PERFECT tool for rare people. For reference, my favorite electric piano right now is the Yamaha CP (CP73, 73 keys.) All knobs and pilot switches, shortcut buttons.
As someone with a DTII + midiout to DN pairing right now, nothing about the DNII really jumps out to me as I get all the sequencer updates and everything with the DTII. For stand alone single box people who have have run the DN ragged and pushed it to its limits though, it's got a hell of a lot! Really excited to see some new Cuckoo DN songs with all those tracks and polyphony! Don't see myself grabbing it, but could see myself upgrading to it after a promotion or raise or so at work. Haha.
Will there be a mega tutorial vid on the digitone 2? Mine is about to arrive tomorrow and I know it’ll be a bit overwhelming compared to their boxes with more streamlined sound engines like syntakt. Sold my syntakt for the digitone 2 in part because the immense sound design potential.
I spent a lot of time with model:cycles so I'm thinking about getting next Elektron. I was going syntakt but here digitone2 drums sounds nice. which will fits better for m:c lover?
Man, this is the one I always wanted. Do you think you'll enjoy the added tracks or is it even too much freedom? Limitations can be really good for productivity and inspiration.
I’ve certainly pushed the limits with the 4 track Digitone 1. Navigating 16 tracks can be overwhelming at first. It’s all about building a structure and good habits to get an overview quickly. I’ve started with: Track 1-8 rhythm Track 9-15 melodic Track 16 MIDI when needed Track 1 kick Track 9 bass … it’s a start 😅
Thanks. You can certainly come a long way with the synthesis alone on the Digitone 2. But it can’t play samples. So if you’re craving those recorded sounds you’ll have to use a sampler.
@@Futile_Soundscapes some main differences would be that the Syntakt has borrowed a few tracks of pretty gnarly sounding analog chips from the premium Analog Rhytm drum machine. While the digital side of Syntakt is borrowed from the entry level Model Cycles (although taken a bit further here). The all digital Digitone 2 has a much more powerful processor generation now, and rich polyphony. The digital sound engines and filters in firmware 1, I think, show a much more mature, diverse and refined sound than the digital sound engines in the Syntakt. Digitone 2 is at heart an FM synth, but with the first new sound engines it’s clear that they don’t wanna stop there, with both dedicated percussive and tonal engines.
Wow! That was something special! Nice job, Cuckoo! Now I gotta go sell my OG Digitone so I can upgrade 😢 By the way, how long did it ACTUALLY take to make this song? Watching this makes me feel like you came up with it in less than an hour or so

It is a great FM synthesizer, very similar to the previous one, the only thing I think it lacks is that it had wave tables, that would open the field of creativity to infinity, I have the pleasure of enjoying one of the first units, but I have to To say that when creating more complex FM sounds I use other synthesizers that contain an extensive bank of more varied wavetables, I hope they add it soon in future updates, since in my case I am not using it much for that reason, In fact, I think that if Elektron puts a bank of wavetables in the FM SY section, I don't think any synthesizer will be able to compete with Digitone 2 in decades.
Thanks. No it's just a pattern on my machine. Just chilling on P1 or something like that, haha. Normally when I start out I start making one-pattern ideas, and move on. Then after some time I have like a full bank of 16 patterns. This is where I start selecting what to develop into something more. For the video I had to make a split second decision and just go for what felt good in the moment, and it was idea number 2.
Oh man. Any Cuckoo is good, but when you get your hands on a FM groovebox, it's a special treat. You really bring FM-based instruments to life like nobody else.

what good??? he is clown with zero talent see demo from SUBSTAN how to demo product and how to really make music with it
This is a very cool throwback for me! Your OG digitone videos were the first I watched on your channel, years ago.
Can’t wait for the mega tutorial 🙂
Love seeing how excited you are by this ❤️ big love cuckoo your enthusiasm and love is infectious in the best way. You taught me all I know about the OG DT and DN and I'm excited to pair this with my DT2 🤩
Loved the lyric writing part with the jump cuts of spoken words and writing. Really calming 💜
All your Digitone content in the past has been such a joy to watch and this is no different. Any cuckoo video day is a good day :)
🔥 Sweet song embryo, the beat divisions you got around 9:05 were awesome! It's a pretty sick instrument.
Thanks!
❤️👾
You have the uncanny ability to open a box and make music in 30 seconds. I on the other hand have the uncanny ability to stare at it for 3 months trying to get something useful out of it!!!
❤️😅
Have you tried an Elektron box yet (not the Octatrack!)?
the vocals are giving me "the streets" vibe hard. love it! great demo!
Far superior to the Streets - Cuckoo so deep.
This is too tempting! Digitone is my all time fav synth. What u made with it just out of the box is fire! Love ur songs

Thanks! Making more music is the best! 🌸
haha your excitement is contagious Cuckoo
Hard to believe this was only a couple of days ago. Already a fond memory.
Your true emotions right in the intro mirror my feelings exactly! I'm delighted, the box has been ordered. Thanks for making me want it even more ;)
Really cool!! Been watching your Octatrack tutorials, thanks a lot for them as well!
Thanks mate! ❤️
I appreciate how giddy you are at the start of this video

Totally brilliant Mr C.
Absolutely love the rap - you are so creative - that could be on vinyl that one.
Just listened to a new BBC radio documentary on music technology called 6 music instrumental. There's a section on FM and the legacy of the dx7. Great to hear Cuckoo on the programme.
Love this one, so cool to see you put this machine to work
Cenk and Cuckoo - my go to when a new box is released. Only Cuckoo now but awesome video as always

Man is absolutely blazooted lmao - love Cuckoo
You going all-aboard-full-ASMR-mode is really gonna make me buy the product, dude!
Ha ha ❤️
@@truecuckoo NGL! 😘
Dude. My favourite synth ever just evolved! I'm wondering if I'll still keep the first one when I get the 2.
So happy about this, insta purchase!
true! just the display color should be green or maybe red?? I think red would be awesome!
red would be annoying af
I just read today speculations about a digitone 2 ... and you have one (and done a great demo with as usual) :)
this makes me want to play metroid
2:20 that feeling when the ayahuasca starts to take hold 🫠
Great jam 🙏
I guess we'll see you with this box a lot in future!

Please release this - wow it's so good.

Incredible deep sound in this little box! 😍
to me, this seems even better than the Digitakt 2 ( which I love ) ❤

I want one! Oh and some of your skills in using it :)
This sounds really nice, i believe in Santa !
off the scale wonderful tune !!!
Awesome demo and great track, I want one now
I spent a lot of time with model:cycles so I'm thinking about getting next Elektron. I was going syntakt but here digitone2 drums sounds nice. which will fits better for m:c lover?

Well done, Cuckoo!
You savage, great tutorial sir

Is it time for a "Binary Code" album soon celebrating the mkII?! 🙂 (Listening again to NBC as I type this.)
That was awesome! 👏

I actually thought of Cuckoo as i watched the launch - 16 tracks of FM synthesis seemed like something he'd be keen on.
