I have learned so much about Korean history and culture from this drama. The story was captivating and quite moving. The acting of all five lead characters was excellent, but I must say that the charismatic performance of Lee Byung-Hun is outstanding. He has definitely a place in my heart. What I did not appreciate is how the writer killed her prime characters instead of finding another more creative way of glorifying them in history. Mr. Sunshine is an awesome drama and love story. The sad ending of the drama is like a metaphor or a foreshadower of Korea's tragic history as the country officially go under Japanese occupation in 1910, 3years after the time in the drama ends. For most of Koreans it only make sense to have the drama ended this way even though it is truely sad.
I don't understand anything but the fact that they're smiling in modern world makes me happy. Mr. Sunshine is such a heartbreaking yet magnificent drama. It should be presented internationally. Kudos to the actors, director, writer and crew!
I just completed watching this incredible drama in America 5 times. I was mesmerized by the sheer scope and beauty of this series. The acting was superb by all the stars. I did not know any of the actors or their reputations in Korean cinema. Byung Hun Lee, Yeon Sook Yoo, (have to say the two male leads were sexy) andTae Ri Kim (Sorry American spelling) especially caught my attention as I felt their performances were so compelling. As one who has seen so many western style movies and tv it took some getting used to the staring and the social mores of the times in 19th century Joseon. As for the political ramifications of the Japanese occupation I can’t really comment as I didn’t live through those times. I was born and raised during and after World II in an Asian neighborhood and have very fond memories of my Asian neighbors. They weren’t treated very well here during those times, and the ramification still lingers here. But, my heart goes out to the Koreans in how they were treated. I have nothing but admiration for their culture and strength of purpose. I have become obsessed with other Korean dramas (thank you Netflix and Prime). Looking forward to more work from the talented stars.

I have enjoyed this show or series slot. On episode 21, but being a Marine veteran I just want to make aware on Eugene's uniform the eagle, globe and anchor. The anchors go inboard and the one on his cover to the left or our right if looking at him. Marines take Great Pride in our uniforms. Not a complaint just a observation. I love the series great actors and actresses all of them
