    Very interesting.My life was saved in 1973 by the original AOD (automatic opening device) on my very first static line jump. I had a full streamer,, forgot to count and lost track of time. I was totally out of control. I was about to pull the reserve after noticing I could start to see the leaves on the trees. The AOD beat me to it and it was estimated my reserve was open at about 300 to 500 feet. It was supposed to open at 1000'. That of course was followed by a tree landing from which I couldn't lower myself and had to wait a rather long time to be found. Incredibly I stayed with the sport and earned a Jumpmaster and Instructor rating. My license # is C-7477 from the USA.
    . I've never forgotten it. :)
    I'm amazed at how far the sport and equipment has evolved. Tandem jumping and AFF classes were not even a figment of our imagination then. I no longer jump but still love watching videos. Blue skies all! :)

    As a new skydiver, I can't imagine not having an AAD. At Skydive Chicago, it just became mandatory to have one last year.

      Not just in some DZ. In several Countries, an AAD is mandatory by the law.

    Have many hours above ground climbing towers and trees. Picking pine cones in Montana from super tall and skinny ponderosa pines. Started rescuing canopies from trees after cutaways 25 years ago and world trade my service for tandem jumps... Two years ago I decided I wanted no regrets, so I made the leap!!😂

    🐈! All 3 of my rigs have Vigil Quatros. All are changeable. 2 I’ve bought personally brand new, one was in the initial rig I bought after AFF. I’ve never had an AAD Fire, don’t wanna have one lol, but hope the device functions as desired if the time comes. Another great video!

    Can a non-certified skydiver, skydive without the proper knowledges just using an ADD ? I tandem before, but I have some concerns of a new company in my country, The Dominican Republic, which is promoting use an ADD for people that want to skydive, and wingsuit without knowledge/certification. I want to hear the opinion of the Skydivers community ! Thanks I know that you are required To have a certain jumps number in order to get certified for wingsuit.

    but how mechanically does the AAD pull the parachute out of the container after it cuts the cord what happens?

    • @JayDee-xj9lu
      @JayDee-xj9lu 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The reserve chute has a large spring inside the pilot chute so when you pull the reserve the pin comes out of the closing loop and the spring pushes the flaps open and goes into the airstream like a normal pilot chute and pulls the reserve canopy out. The AAD has a small explosive charge that cuts the closing loop cord and the rest is the same as if you pulled the reserve handle.

    origtht sweet cheeks heres hot ones at yaaa 1 dose that AAD activate while at decent at certain speed or height WHEN YOU HAVE ACTIVATED YOUR OWN CHUTE 2 can the AAD be deactivated not to be operable 3 is there a safety activation to prevent unauthorized activation like a DNA or finger inprint activation lock type system ONLY TO BE OPERABLE BY OWNER/OCCUPANT 4 does it activate at certain position while on one side or facing the sky 5 how many chutes does it activate if primary chute has failed ie disconnected of diver will it open others/secondary and reserve ??? great its like lets replace the skydiver with an automatic sself activation system to which a skydiver isnt needed to do anything.
