@KJ-km7ce I went to an HBCU too. Went through so much bullying! It was ridiculous! I honestly still have a trauma response that I am still working through. I write as much as possible to help me heal.
I attended a multiracial college here in South Africa and all the students in my class were mgm of all skintones, one was half mgm half black and 6 of us were black identifying. However the other black girls were unambiguous and all the lectures were white. I would get lumped in with the mixed race students because of how I look and carry myself doesn't fit the common black stereotypes. I stopped spending lunchtime with the black students and would play dominoes with the mixed race ladies and gentlemen and one day one of the ladies , her name was Audrey, she brought up the fact that our Financial Accounting lecture never asked me questions about certain black ethnic groups and the others also agreed with her. I simply said that because of my phenotype people don't assume that I identify as black.

The world is multiracial. There is no way that you'll navigate life in the United States without going to at least one school that is multiracial; however, the unique experience at an HBCU gives you an opportunity to experience an environment in which you are culturally centered. I went to a PWI law school and was constantly reminded, via microaggresions, of the racial and social hierarchy of this country. I hope that black people seek out the safe, cultural space of an HBCU to truly understand what the full potential of a confident and capable black community looks like.

Secondly, they exist because the US is historically racist and prevented black people from going to school and then from going to school with them so we created our own schools. TRUE STORY. Here I was a grown woman with a child. I took my child to the doctor for a check up, nothing big right. Well the dark skin black doctor started acting rude and angry towards me. She barely answered my questions etc. Finally she comes out and says she was a Delta. For the first time I realized what her problem was. See, my daughter and I just so happened to have on pink and green colors. I am light skinned and my darker daughter has 3b hair. Now here is the kicker. I am not a member of the AKA nor have I ever been. So, this black doctor just assumed she knew all about me. To make a long story short. I changed doctors.
When I taught at an HBCU, one of my students asked me if I were an AKA. I answered in the negative. Then she asked me if I knew any AKAs. I said "yes." She said she was pledging and had passed all the tests thus far. She added that the last test she had to.pass was the "paperbag test." That young lady was very pretty and very dark-skinned. Then she asked if I would speak to some of my AKA acquaintances and ask them to intercede on her behalf. That occurred in the 1990s.
Ultimately it's about promoting goals of the orgs and service based ideas and not what a person looks like as an aspirant . Members should be selected on character and service history principals. It's about, if a person joins per say, holding up the ideals of the org. Community service/educational efforts of the orgs. This is the reason for joining undergrads/aspirates of today. I agree with you. Cultural organizations should reflect your values and ideals but with Black ppl it is never the case; hence the constant internal battles projected unto others as bullying. I am not mixed race or particularly light skinned but how someone looks is how they look, I don't think about it. People are prettier than me and I am prettier than some people and that is life. I would love to see some content discussion on ways exoticals can avoid the preference to baby’s mother pipeline. I see a lot of beautiful women getting caught up in that by complimentary dusties.
Actually, that might be changing judging by the large numbers of young women being inducted on college campuses., for example, TSU. Some women are drawn to the sorority due to its “high profile” membership. They do appear to have a lot of beauty queens, entertainers, recording artists, tv personalities, high profile politicians, not to mention they have as a member one of the most prominent high profile politician who happens to be a first for black women everywhere. Now add to that, the idea of being known everywhere as a “pretty girl “ and being a part of the “first and the finest “ adds a huge appeal to those who trying to pledge the sorority, but AKA is actually much more than this. They do a lot of good in the community and sadly, some of the negativeness they are being judged by, is by people who are not in the group, and are only just looking at stereotypes as an outsider. All of the D9 have stereotypes, but all works diligently for the betterment of the Black community.

I have lived in ATL and some of the leaders of H B C Us and sororities are notorious for counting out potential students based on complexion, hair and facial features! Many applicants believe they were disqualified based off their photo! I never liked how some H B C Us made headshots apart of the application process!

Im the only mixed race person in the class yet im the only person that has to deal with her macro-aggressions and finding any excuse to be rude and embarrass me now im noticing others students are being rude to me bc of her influence! We have the vanilla folder test, which means LS marry LS/ Mix-.LS\Wht or Cajun- Wht ex( Ian Somerhalder, Channing Tatum- both his parents French Creole) We keep bloodlines Wht or light, also our generational wealth. Yes, this is the core of colorism unfortunately. Example-My father born in Lyons, France- mom LS-American.

GIRL! This is so true about women in the black community. Dark skin women have given me the hardest time. Grow up with a dark skin mother & 4 sisters was a nightmare. I really wish i could share my experience with you.🥹 i think also light skin women tend to over compensation because their is a stigma but i think people with a deeper complex set that stigma. Lught skin people dont have the numbers to discriminate plus most light women date dark skin men & more then likely have dark skin babies. I’ve never been in a sorority and I’m not familiar at all with the experience, so I’m theorizing here: But it seems to me that this particular sorority has loss some of its prestige, because they got lazy with their recruiting standards. It should remain for the pretty, fit, and classy, despite color ranking. They started letting people in who required a lower standard to keep up. The light skin initial recruitment process, probably had a lot to do with the fact that lighter skin women had more upscale cultural experience from having non-black ancestry (french, english, creole aristocratic types). So when the black culture went haywire with degeneracy particularly in the early 1930s, this meant choosing people that would be more accepting of higher cultural standards; and that was likely mixed race people, while not always. By allowing certain people in and allowing certain practices to slide (like not staying fit, eating well, keeping your hair done, dressing and speaking well) they lowered their cultural standards. Sororities like this can be awesome for black and mixed women if they maintain their standards. Men as well!

I went to an Ivy so we didn't have a huge Greek scene let alone black Greeks but the AKAs were trying to recruit me from the minute I stepped onto campus. LOL I was not particularly popular and I didn't know anyone in it so I am certain it was just because of my skin color.
Maybe it's because they saw a black woman on the Ivy league campus you said had no black sorority presence and wanted to recruit to get their numbers up.
I don’t know what their mission or purpose is. But do they or any fraternity or sorority do anything for the black community? Or do they have other interest they focus on after college. I know some guys who are members of a frat and they have never told me about anything they were doing to help the Black community but maybe that’s not there objective.
I specifically chose NOT to join AKA (and pledged Zeta Phi Beta instead) b/c I did not want to be associated with the AKA stereotype of light-skin/long hair, etc since that is already my phenotype and I have been viewed/judged by that stereotype my whole life.
Soror when I first became a Zeta that did bother me. We have plenty of gorgeous Sorors since forever! Even the frats would say don’t date a Zeta it will stain your rep SMH. In French Creole there’s the vanilla folder test. Light marry Light or Cajun. We keep generational bloodlines light to Wht and our $. And, yes, this is colorism to it’s core.

I went to an Ivy so we didn't have a huge Greek scene let alone black Greeks but the AKAs were trying to recruit me from the minute I stepped onto campus. LOL I was not particularly popular and I didn't know anyone in it so I am certain it was just because of my skin color.

Maybe it's because they saw a black woman on the Ivy league campus you said had no black sorority presence and wanted to recruit to get their numbers up.
I don’t know what their mission or purpose is. But do they or any fraternity or sorority do anything for the black community? Or do they have other interest they focus on after college. I know some guys who are members of a frat and they have never told me about anything they were doing to help the Black community but maybe that’s not there objective.
I will say that I saw Beyonce in person in Dallas at the At&t stadium Arlington Texas. She is more beautiful in person!

Can you do a video on Zeta Phi Beta and how they are treated within D9. Its really sad how my sorority is treated and viewed.
Yes I think I want to do one on all of them because I noticed the “dark skinned” sororities are viewed as masculine, Hoes, fat etc.
I specifically chose NOT to join AKA (and pledged Zeta Phi Beta instead) b/c I did not want to be associated with the AKA stereotype of light-skin/long hair, etc since that is already my phenotype and I have been viewed/judged by that stereotype my whole life.
Soror when I first became a Zeta that did bother me. We have plenty of gorgeous Sorors since forever! Even the frats would say don’t date a Zeta it will stain your rep SMH. My Dad is a Kappa and his brothers said that to him he’s like I don’t care what you say she is drop dead gorgeous and I’m marrying her! They need a sorority to pick on but I know I’m beautiful those people who say that are insecure

I was pro black because I grew up in an all white background . I wanted to support the black community and have a sisterhood . Or at least that’s what I THOUGHT would happen 😂

Thank you! I just feel like it’s hypocritical for UABW to say they’re against colorism texturism and featurism when they flock to groups that promote MLS People. I feel like even though colorism/texturism/featurism and racism were created by whites people, it is perpetuated by black women and men. I think the real reason UABW wanted to be apart of the AKAs is so they can be associated with the positive stereotypes about MLS women being feminine, snobby and classy. so they’re hypocritical

Sorority remind me of this story from a white woman who share her experience in sorority. These sorority thing where they only pick certain white woman like from their social status, atractiveness, and they obligated to paid certain amount of money. She even mention when there's sexual assault they have to be quiet and they allowed questionable man to enter. There's tiktok video went viral these white woman sorority have the blonde white woman in the front while the brunette in the behind

Yes I’m doing a video on this . And yes, Unambiguous people (of all races) change their features all the time (nose jobs, lip fillers, changing your skin tone etc)
