Dillon - I see many Europeans play this type of mando although it has a better sound than I thought. Thanks for the analysis. And that's about all of the Bach concerto I can actually play before I get lost ! I had one and used a piece of rubber perforated rug runner on my lap to stop it turning on me. It would be a good instrument for someone to buy especially if they're into more European type music.
Hi Dillon, thanks a lot for sharing us the video !Some weeks ago I encontered a man who sales the second-hand suzuki mandolin, the mandolin is well decorated and it was borned in 70's, but the price is $750, I don't think it worth that amount, could I send the video of this mandolin and could you please help me to know if it is worth that amount ?
I'll admit I'm not an expert. The price is going to depend a lot on what materials it's made out of, how rare it is, and how well it's been taken care of. Is it a Suzuki mandolin? For a 70's Suzuki bowlback that sounds a little bit high, but it's not unheard of. I would suggest looking up other similar bowlback mandolins on eBay to see what price they're being offered for
Thanks! And wish I could help but I sold the instrument quite a while ago and don't have the specs written down anywhere. I was pleased with it though. It's small, though, you should know that. I was shocked by how small it was when it arrived.
This mandolin makes me think of an analogy some older people make when they compare them to women. This is like a hard to handle woman but who has BIG assets to offer. Lol These classic/traditional style mandolin is very cool as complex hand made object, not necessarily as a practical instrument, unless the classical mandolin music piece specifically requires it. It would always look great as a decoration on the wall which you could play around with though.
A Strap on a Bowlback Mandolin, very cool it actually helps keep the Mandolin in playing position.
Common in Japan where the roundback is more dominant and there are mandolin orchestra groups.
Thanks for the demo. I am in the market and looking for info; this was a good intro.

Agreed, agreed. Really a great little mandolin, I just found that I wasn't using it very much.
... and, as for the bright sound, apparently the classical mandolin players use a had felt pick.
I've heard that. Personally I use a flexible nylon pick
