It seems like Steven Spielberg consciously cultivated a safe, healthy, and positive set for these three to be kids on; the way they still seem to so strongly regard their experience making the movie is a testament to his leadership as a director.
I think it’s adorable that, Drew genuinely believed that ET was real, to her he wasn’t a puppet or a doll, he was very real. I love that she formed a profound connection with him, she wanted to be his friend, she would bring him lunch and make sure he wasn’t cold. I think it’s awesome that the other actors who noticed her talking away to ET went to Steven and he then had two puppeteers keep ET alive for Drew, so when they interacted he would respond to her. I’m glad that they kept ET alive and that they kept the magic alive for Drew rather then quash it. I believe that we should keep magic alive for children
And a brilliant tactician. He wanted to get a better performance out of Drew. If she continued to believe E.T. was real, then he WAS and she would react in a believable way.

I agree, it is a masterpiece. Spielberg didn't have even a fraction of the technology back then that they have today. He still found a way to pull off the movie and make it look like magic. It is a testament to his skills as a filmmaker.
He was fantastic as Dr. Mid-nite (Charles McNider) in the CW Stargirl series. When I saw him & realized he was a grown-up Elliott from ET I was stunned! It's another reason that show's cancellation is tough but I know he'll go on to do more great tv shows & movies in the future.

It certainly is and will always be one of those timeless movies. And for me personally, it never fails to bring a lump in my throat and tears to my eyes.. Every time. My brother was born in ‘79. Much earlier than me.. And he loved it, all the way up until he died in ‘86. So when I saw it, it really gives me that strong sense of connection to him but also loving the movie, in my own way. It’s great to see all you guys back together, though. We’re all a little older, a little wiser but I think deep down we’re all those same kids that grew up with E.T. and we still connect with it so emotionally. It’s hard to believe it’ll be 42 years this year since it was released.. And yet it still means just as much to us now as it did back then.
I was 8 years old in 1982 when my family immigrated from East Germany to the US, and E.T. was the first movie I saw in the theater. I didn't know any English yet, but I understood the context and pure emotion of this film. I remember crying so hard as a child, and I still cry so hard every time I watch it. Seriously one of the best movies of all time!
ET came out when I was 10 years old and was such a huge part of that time in my childhood. My brother and I saw it 4 days in a row at the movie theater. After the 4th time my parents said enough. Lol
ET is a incredible movie ..with a superb cast ..storyline ..has everything ..gets me every time it's on with a fantastic score.. and one of the saddest endings IL ever see .! I saw this when it came out ther wasn't a dry eye in the cinema.. Spielberg classic at its very best E.T.❤️
I can't believe that this year marks the 40th. Anniversary of this classic film. I remembered seeing this with my family when we went on a vacation to see family down South in Alabama many years ago! And it did phenomenal business at the box office! Such an amazing film!
the way she gets down and thanks them for the life they gave her is just amazing. God bless ET, Spielberg and everyone who helped on this movie. Created memories for generations.
Drew believing E.T. was real during the filming is awesome but also a bit disturbing. She went through hell being a child star. The fact that she has kept her sense of humor throughout her life is truly as beautiful as her soul is. Love you Drew💜
I have been waiting for this since the first day of your show. I was a little shocked that you didn't have them on your first show. But, thank you so much for this today.
I watched E.T. so many times; years later when I had my kids I would played the movie for them on VHS (If you remember what's that), and then on DVD. This is true, my son was scared of E.T. and never wanted to see the movie but my daughter loved it, and I will occasionally repeat to her what E.T. would tell Elliot before he was ready to go back home: "Be good" and "I'll be right here, pointing to her heart! Wonderful movie, amazing actors, great director, and incredible memories!!

This was a delight to watch. Thanks for sharing this.
I got the video in circa 91 and to this day masterful.
Drew Barrymore is one of the Best Actresses Ever!!
ET came out when I was 10 years old and was such a huge part of that time in my childhood. My brother and I saw it 4 days in a row at the movie theater. After the 4th time my parents said enough. Lol
🤣🤣🤣
I was 7
Aww Drew at the end.🥰
One of my favourite movies of all times
How amazing see the "family" reunited! 😍
Wow. What an awesome reunion. Happy Anniversary. 😊
This is beyond beautiful and too freaking adorable!!! 🥰💖
Dee Wallace looks great and loved her in so many things over the years.
ET was the first movie I remember watching and enjoying as a child. I rewatched it with my 6 year old, and he loved it as much as I did at that age.
loved the xfinity commercial where elliot reunited for one night with E.T. too
One of my favorite and one of the greatest movies of all time. Dee Wallace has always been so beautiful.
the way she gets down and thanks them for the life they gave her is just amazing.
It's not disturbing, she was 6.
One of the best childhood movies I will never forget every time I watch it I cry and I’m a 50-year-old man. Love your work guys.
Amazing movie!!! E.T. forever!
My Favorite movie of all time! My Mother took Me to see it when I was 11 years old. Memorable and beautiful film. Once in a lifetime classic. ❤❤❤❤
Thank you Mr. Spielberg and to all the wonderful cast! Always in my heart! ❤

This is so precious!
Drew’s awesome! Wears her heart on her sleeve and is real af
First movie I went to see at the movies, at 3 yrs old. Forever my favorite!!!
Good thing you wasn't 12 months old or wouldn't of remembered anything!
Great cast and I did like that scarf she put on ET. Amazing.
This is sooooo Wholesome and endearing 🥺😭💕💕
Everyone looks so happy to see each other, the family reunion Drew desperately needed
omg, this is crazy, i love this interview reunion. Wish there's should have made another movie together with the same cast and director Steven, he should have come up with some ideas, that would be a huge hit!
This was great! First movie I ever saw in a movie theatre, when I was 3 yrs old! 💕💫
This is my first movie I’ve ever saw as a kid in 1982 . I was 4 years old when my grandmother took me to the best film ever . This is one of my top 10 movies of all time .
It’s great to see E.T. cast reunite together in honor of its 40th Anniversary!
Wow that's amazing. The movie came out before I was born and I loved the movie as a kid.
the way she' moves to kneel in front of them, right out of her chair...she loves them so much
This is such an endearing interview. ❤
Henry Thomas and Drew Barrymore definitely made that masterpiece happen!!
The amount of thought and planning that went into E.T. is beyond this world.
My first movie ever at cinema with school ! Cried and had nightmares for a while ! But loves it in the same time !
I love you Drew! you always bring such a kind element to every interview and the interwied while they're sitting there with you ❤
I absolutely love Drew. She seems like such a sweetheart 💕
When I was five years old back in 1982, my sister and brother-in-law when they were dating actually at the time two years before they got married took me to the drive-in in Northern California to see ET. That’s where I fell in love with Drew and now 40 years after ET came to theaters I am still in love with Drew. ET the extra terrestrial is one of the greatest movies ever found and has one of the greatest casts ever and also the music score by John Williams phenomenal. ET come back we love you
My favorite movie of all time! I remember been 11 years old sitting next to My Mother at the movies holding Her hand and crying, and when I looked up at Her, She was crying more than I was! 😢❤
Thank you Mr. Spielberg for making such a beautiful movie that I still watch often and cry as it was the first time! ❤❤
Great Movie, Great Director and Great Cast. 😎👌👌👌
Such a great and touching movie! One of the best of all time!
