Thank you for talking about the absolute oddity of using coconut oil in vegan cheeses - it totally overwhelms and it’s infuriating when alternatives are available.
That's so weird because I find the sheese and epic cheddar the MOST coconutty to a point where I couldn't finish the packet 😧. The standard violife is the least coconutty for me 🤔 the smoked one you had is the delicious however the follow your heart smoked Gouda is my all time fave 😍
Out of what we get here in Australia, my personal favourites are FYH and Green Vie. Coconut oil in cheese is generally a big turn off, heated up coconut oil smells/tastes like vomit to me =/
Violife Epic Mature cheddar block (great for Mac & Cheeze) and cheddar slices are my favorite, hands down, for flavor, meltability and being soy-free and carrageenan-free!
Several of those cheeses melt best when they are not directly exposed to air as they melt. For example, Violife melts really well inside a toastie, burrito etc, but does not perform as well or look as good if it's placed on top of whatever you're cooking.
Love the Applewood and Violife Epic Mature. The Koko I have tons of at the moment as it’s the only vegan cheese that’s Slimming World “Healthy A”. It is VERY coconutty but once you develop a taste for it it’s kinda addictive. Always found Sheese products inedible and I really wanted to like it - maybe I’ll give the mild another go.
As a long-term vegan I've tried them all. Koko is the only one worth buying IMO. Overall I don't feel the need to have a cheese replacement, like I don't need a meat replacement either. Vegan food made well is nutritious and delicious and doesn't need to pretend to be anything else.
Thanks for your video, I've not eaten cheese since I was 15 and am almost 60. Turned veggie 3yrs ago and been having Violife. It's great to have your opinion on each category Taste, Melt, and Toastie. Great going guys, I've subscribed - catch you laters Dee x
I hate coconut based cheese 😭 on one planet pizza I believe they use Cheezly by VBites and I like that on their Hawaiian pizza. Maybe you can do a similar video for cheeses made from things from pea protein, nuts and from some independent businesses like Tyne cheese with their sage cheddar :) also cream cheese needs its own video too :) I also love the fact that you don't think coconut and cheese go together, and that you aren't faking it for the sake of being popular amongst other vegans who rave about vegan cheeses being just as good as the real thing!
Cheezly or Vbites is the best vegan cheese in the world but I can't get it in the U.S.anymore. My carnivore mom and sister used to devour my Cheezly English Cheddar and Bacon grilled cheese sandwiches, nothing like it in the world! I'm a vegan chef, I know food.
Koko is by far our favourite, we find its one of the only vegan cheese that doesn't have that 'fake' taste to it! Great on pizza and burgers (but we do love coconut) and it's pretty cheap too
Can't live without Miyoko's European style butter. ♡ Here in the middle of Washington state, USA, my favorite overall cheese is still the Chao slices. But, Miyoko's UnLox spreadable is a close second. ♡
The first one and the reliable one Tofuffi it's not greasy like so many newer ones and it does taste like cream cheese w.out the greasy Ness At least 4 me
Wish I could try that Applewood one! Love a smoky cheese. Not a Follow Your Heart stan but the slices are way better than the shreds. Pre-shredded cheese is not all that tasty in general due to the anti clumping agents. Not really a fair fight but I understand that might have been all that was available to try.
Many of these brands are not available in the US, at least I Haven’t seen in Seattle. Maybe our PCC or Trader Joe’s markets have them . I’ll have to check again!
I've checked those stores, haven't seen those brands either. My favorite for overall use, or a good grilled cheese sandwich is still the Chao slices. If you see this comment, I would love to know what your favorite is. ♡
The Violife cheeses are getting wider distribution gradually. My regional health food store stocks them, so maybe try a Whole Foods if you're near one?
I tried vegan cheese around 10 years ago and it was absolutely horrific. It tasted like this dead cat smelt like I had to deal with a couple of weeks ago. Have they gotten better since then?
In the area of California I live in, I can only get Violife and Follow Your Heart vegan cheeses out of your taste tests. We have many others here to choose from all the same. First, we don’t eat cold cheese. Gross! Second, main factors are taste and melt ability. I love Follow Your Heart cheeses. They also make Feta and Parmesan. Interesting video. Thanks guys 🙂
Literally eating a vegan grilled cheese while watching this. And I was just thinking why is vegan cheese so hard to melt. I tend to char the bread before the cheese really starts to melt.
I don't know any brand of ready cheese, but you can try making cheese from chickpeas, sunflower seeds or soya yogurt, there is plenty recipes on the internet
Violife is perfect to melt very cheesy and works well in Mac and cheese and amazing also in stuffed peppers and on jacket potato it's 👌 but then it's only vegan cheese I tried I liked first time so didn't need to try another my vegan friend is not keen tho
If you like this video, you might also enjoy my vegan lifestyle vlog - I'm @VeganVeteranUK. My (non-vegan) boyfriend and I did a cheese night which was really fun :-)
Sheese cheese is awful! It's one of the 1st vegan cheeses I tasted I was highly disappointed and had to throw away the food. It also has a weird after taste. The bests for me are applewood and koko dairy free - only thing is koko really doesn't melt. It guess it's a matter of personal preference big time when it comes to vegan cheese. You really do have to buy and try, can't really go on others opinions.
Voilife mature cheddar does not have a mature cheddar taste at all, it tastes like a mild feet cheese. They're all disgusting! Just shows that everyone will have a different opinion no matter what. I haven't found one i like 🤮
Oh god, another one. It's called cheese because that's what it's trying to replace for vegans who used to love cheese. How is this hard to understand? All of them are marketed and clearly labelled as vegan, only a fucking idiot would think they're real cheese. Grow up and find a bigger problem to be upset about.
@@samshorto5433 I'm not upset, it's a scientific fact; it's not cheese. Moreover, a child or a brainless adult is the only one too say "grow up"...you do know the world isn't flat!
@@hyperhella2843 Lol can you point out which scientific law defines cheese please? Don't use big words you don't understand. And calling me brainless while being unable to tell the difference between 'to' and 'too' is very ironic.
The use of the description "vegan" infers that the product is healthy. The coconut oils used in most vegan cheese is a saturated fat that should not be recommended in any way.
I MIX cheeses some have characteristics that stands out that others lack but combined. It's better..So mixing is a good 💡 idea..Works out good fa me Also making cheese myself It's not difficult at all Cooked stovetop.or steamed
Thank you for talking about the absolute oddity of using coconut oil in vegan cheeses - it totally overwhelms and it’s infuriating when alternatives are available.
And it’s very high in sat fat, which you need to avoid if on a low sat fat diet.
I have tried all of these with the exception of the Mexican one and I can concur that your findings are accurate. Great video 🙂
You saved me a lot of money here! Thanks so much!!!
Even the loser still wins against Daiya.

Sheeze cheddar mature spreadable - best dairyLea sub! Just in case you have any kids - or love a good old school cheese spread!
Out of what we get here in Australia, my personal favourites are FYH and Green Vie. Coconut oil in cheese is generally a big turn off, heated up coconut oil smells/tastes like vomit to me =/
Thanks for this fantastic compare so expensive to try all yourself. Vegan butter too please!
Naturli vegan butter is great you can get in sainsbury's and waitrose for sure. It's my favourite vegan butter

Do you mean that outside of air it doesn't melt at all?
@@jerrykirby3117 it melts poorly and in patchy and can harden.
Uhh, how did mild Sheeze get 5 and mature Violife only get 3 on the melt test? They look the same!
Loved the video very informative thanks guy's 👍👍
Y'all did such a good job 😬! Thank you. I had no idea how to pick a proper vegan cheese that was actually worth it. Not trying to give away money 😂

Thanks so much for this review guys! Fantastic 🔥💜
This was very helpful, thank you.
Thank you. Needed this!
Great video.. Thanks for taking the time to make this
Thanks for trying them out. Takes the work and costs off of me. I will try and find the Sheese and the Applewood online.
Cathedral is the best in my opinion but I don’t think it was out yet, isn’t applewood more of a Gouda though?
The vegusto cheeses (especially the golden one) are just amazing!!
Yeah I use the apple wood in my mac and vegan cheese its the best cheese for it 😋
As a long-term vegan I've tried them all. Koko is the only one worth buying IMO. Overall I don't feel the need to have a cheese replacement, like I don't need a meat replacement either. Vegan food made well is nutritious and delicious and doesn't need to pretend to be anything else.
No doubt the Koko cheese fails the melting test, but the flavour and texture is actually nice, if a little strange!
Im sure it's just a coincidence that they partnered with them on their sheeze and onion kettle chips
Hmm. Good point.
Just try them yourself and decide.
NWO...
Koko is my favourite 😍
Vegusto Mile Aromatic Cheddar is the best. Available on amazon
Thanks for this will try some
Of these ! 💚
Nice contest! I’ll be buying SHEESE and Applewood cheese this week, if I can get them!😉👍
Are we seeing some favouritism towards Sheese because you worked with them on the Kettle Chips? 🤔
Is this in the UK?
Yep x
New sub. Love your channel. Great recipes!
Awesome thank you
The cheek of McDonalds putting an advert for sausage and egg McMuffin in the middle of the video!

Violife has earned the title of "lego cheese" in our house!
I enjoyed your video 10/10 ***** Greetings from Ireland. ☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️
My fav cheddar cheese is daiya cheddar slices for grilled cheese and quesadillas
applewood but im gonna try to make my own
I love Boursin Dairy Free cheese.
Great. I'm violife but not tried a lot. Thank you xx
Miyoko's chedder is outstanding!
I agree
Dana Cohen - yes here in Seattle it is my families go to!

Applewood yum!!
Sheese for the win
The sheese looked really really oily in the melt test but got 5/5?
They got sponsored by sheeze to collaborate with them on kettle chips...so I imagine they are still trying to ass kiss
@@Lilyhember180 The cheese should melt. It melt so it got 5/5
Right? The Violife Epic Mature melted better and that only got a 3...? Rigged to favor sheese for sure.
Im about to get a 3 in 1 waffle grill sandwich maker
Literally eating a vegan grilled cheese while watching this. And I was just thinking why is vegan cheese so hard to melt. I tend to char the bread before the cheese really starts to melt.
WorldMind - have you tried grated Violife in a toastie? I find it melts really well and quite quickly. Tastes good too.
Casein in dairy cheese gives that amazing stretch or pull. Researchers so far haven't found a plant-based or vegan alternative.
Any ideas for vegan cheese not made with coconut oil? I am allergic to nuts, and coconut being the biggest nut, presents a struggle to be vegan
I don't know any brand of ready cheese, but you can try making cheese from chickpeas, sunflower seeds or soya yogurt, there is plenty recipes on the internet
The Sheese brand is soo good, I also really love their cream cheese 🥰
everyone in my family agrees that follow your heart american slices is the best
Violife cheese slices are really good 🧀
Can I just say that it would be great to see a vegan melted cheese review without rating on how it may “cheese pull”? I just want to know if it melts
Nothing is better than Miyoko farmhouse cheddar. Nothing.
THANK GOD for this video
Yay! Can’t wait

Epic is my favourite
I'm guessing that a "cheese toasty" is British for grilled cheese?
Tis! Tho often they’re not fried to melt the cheese - in my experience people do toasties in grills or toastie bags? Slightly (?!!) healthier!
@@princesscharlott1983 Grilled cheese are not fried either. They're grilled. Hence the name. :)
