When Vani, a dietician, and her husband, Harsha, a IT professional, chanced upon an ice cream churner at an exhibition in Bengaluru, they saw in it an opportunity bring to fruition their plans of creating 100% natural ice creams, made only with fresh fruits and nuts, sans any artificial flavours, colours or additives. A trip to Italy to learn the art of making gelato, low fat ice creams, followed by months of honing recipes at home, led to the birth of their ice cream parlour, Churn in a leafy bylane of RMV 2nd Stage. The ice creams here are made fresh everyday using only seasonal ingredients. Although Churn has its share of loyal patrons in and around the neighbourhood, their ice creams are perhaps unknown to most of Bengaluru. I visit Churn to meet the friendly couple, learn the art of making gelato and taste every flavour that’s in the store.
