I just want to pin a comment here. This is from my own ISP and the modem series that is the same as Phil's that Comcast provided him. They may have extra access being a business account. My ISP though has told me what they do and do not have access too. Our Cyber Laws are different here and I can only report on my findings.

So basically they can't do much on your router from their side beyond a simple diagnostic check and issuing a reboot command. Anything further requires someone to come over to your house, right?

@@NervousNoodles No. Your ISP can change ANY the settings, however that requires you to call them, then from the call center you will need the person there to direct you to a remote supporter technician. At least it is like that in my country. And btw BOTH calls are recorded for legal issues. The reason I think the entire thing is bs is because they changed his wifi SSID and reseted and he didn't notice or say a thing. If that happened for real he would been disconnected from his phone and complained on stream because the wifi name and pass changed.
The tech supporter also is supervised and all remote changes they do are monitored by the supervisor and whatnot.
That's how they change the WIFI password for old people, for example.

@@NervousNoodles Fun fact: they can even change your router firmware. Sometimes when your internet is down is because the modem or router updated and is restarting (I lost one router because of a bad update once)

Phil is just too untrustworthy so much that even when he's telling the truth it has to be taken with a grain of salt or taken as a lie until proven to be true. Anytime he says he wants to tell a story but wants to wait for full details, it's a sign he wants to manipulate the details to make himself seem like the victim.

I think it’s safe to assume Phil is lying about 99.9% of the situation. The only certainty is that Phil’s internet reset a few times for whatever reason. And to never let a “crisis” go to waste, Phil twisted this whole story.
The one constant is lately when Phil has had some low streams drama always pops up to prevent gameplay. We know he rather so anything but play games. In my eyes we are just progressing closer to Phil’s final form, which is Phil holding up a cardboard sign on stream to just straight up beg.
    Big ups Prophet!

I agree. And I'm not buying the supposed Cahmcast Guy who claimed he did it. The 'receipts' he showed are so easy to fabricate it's the first thing a 5th grader with a hint of interest in computers learns how to do to impress/trick his friends (local webpage html element editing). And the details he revealed always came right after Phil revealed the exact same detail, like Camcast Guy was learning what 'happened' just like everyone else - each time Phil added a new detail to it, Camcast Guy would post up in the thread that he just remembered he did that too.

    • @NervousNoodles
      @NervousNoodles 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

We're slowly inching there, disaster stream by disaster stream.
When your loud whale calls fall on more and more deaf ears, your efforts quickly hit a point of diminishing beg returns. You gotta switch up the beg thacktics for an alternative source of revenue and more drama for Phil seems to be the way forward.
Every now and then we'll get some emergency that needs to be addressed.

The only thing that's muddied the waters on what Phil is telling the truth on is that dummy who claimed to be the Cahmcast employee. I don't buy it, though - anyone can edit the html on the router webpage to make it say it belongs to anyone, and the way the guy 'revealed' information was very suspect. Each time Phil would reveal a detail, the guy would spontaneously reveal the same exact detail the exact same way Phil said it. Each time Phil said something new, Cahmcast guy would post up the same thing. Like he was listening and finding out stuff same as anyone else.

Secondly, it's stupid of Phil to go on his podcast and say every conversation he's having with these people supposedly, because the person who hates him obviously watches his stuff. If you really thought fraud occurred, why would you tip the person off ahead of time and let them know what all is being discussed rather than letting the company handle it internally and keeping it to yourself? It's because he needs the pity tips

He said himself, that his internet issue back in October was localised to his laptop. In his own words, he tried the same ethernet cable across all devices and only his laptop was not working. This was further proven by the fact he managed, like during his "DDoS attacks" to stay online and stream this story. Would Comcast, in any reality, ever send out an engineer to fix such an issue?
Remember too, this is the guy that was too scared to even restart his router, believing, seemingly rightly, for it to be outside of his technological capabilities and in his mind, too much of a risk to even attempt such a dangerous thing.
Now, what is the first thing any ISP tech support is going to have you do when you contact them with a potential router issue?
And now this same person is suddenly meant to be an expert at accessing his router's admin settings and knows how to read logs etc?

    • @Anarchist86ed

He dicked around in modem settings on his laptop as if he knows anything about it. He milked that for pity pennies. Anyone with an IQ above dollar store meat knows if the internet isn't working that farting around in your laptops modem settings isn't going to fix it. My Xfinity Internet goes out every once and a while and I know right away it's not my problem. He's also perpetuating the lie that Comcast won't do anything to fix it. They're obligated to fix it any problem for a paying customer. I mean... He doesn't pay for anything his dents do. But if this was real and an employee was behind this there would be criminal charges for their actions. I think piggy wants the dents to choke up more money for an even faster internet speed for his own luxury because we know "muh lag" ruins everything for him.

But I don’t really care enough to go looking back. I think it’s true because I don’t think DSP would miss all of this streaming time. If he takes off more than one day a week he starts to panic. There's so many problems with Phil's conspiracy theory against Comcast.
He was so quick to show that three sites were blocked on the modem level but didn't provide any logs at all. Not even any semblance of logs. He could've easily redacted a bunch of info from the logs and showed that as proof. Likewise, if TH-cam was blocked on the modem level, he wouldn't have "spotty" connection to TH-cam - he just wouldn't be able to connect. Lastly, he really wants people to believe that there's a "troll, dood" working at Comcast who's specifically remoting into his modem just to screw him over at the cost of his job and possible legal trouble.
Really shows that Phil believes everyone is a child in comparison - both the people against him and the people supporting him. Peak narcissism.

I don't think Phil is smart enough to pull something like this off. On the other hand, you can never truly believe anything Phil says. I'm sure there is some level of truth to it.
For example, Phil claims that this began a ways back when the tech came over. However, I doubt Phil looked into anything that second. He never makes any changes until he is forced to. I think he only did anything about it recently, because of his internet getting wonky, thus changing his story to make it sound like he knew all along. Who knows. Phil lies so much that, he could be on fire, tell me he's on fire, show me he's on fire, and I would still doubt him.

  • @otopico
    @otopico 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

Phil is the ultimate example of an unreliable narrator.
That being said, big ups, it is trivial to edit the SSID of a wireless access point if you have the correct login credentials.
When it comes to "cable modems" they are not really very secure. Many vendors use a set list of usernames and passwords, so that if you know the model of the device, you can find the default username password pair.
Most people never need to worry about this kind of things as no one is usually looking for them. Security through obscurity. But Phil is a special case.
If I knew the IP address or machine address of Phil's "cable modem" it would be trivial to get to a login screen. If the wireless radio is enabled, it wouldn't be too much work to gain access. And if a malicious actor had any access to Phil's hardware, they could enable the wireless, set the SSID to something funny, and pull some of the nonsense Phil has been rambling on about.
All anyone needs is the IP. Phil has said repeatedly that he has a fixed IP. Once you have that, and given the fact that Phil has no idea how networking works let alone how to secure a network, it would be a cake walk to harass Phil; via his 2 Business Internet connections.
Most of this stuff is running linux anyways and that isn't that difficult to break into.
If a tech tells you they can't login to your hardware remotely, as a way to make you feel safe, just know that they are lying to you.
Most people would lose their shit if they knew how unsecure the entire Internet thing actually is.
It COULD be someone at Comcast.
It COULD just be someone with Phil's IP and the desire and skill to fuck with him.
I'd place my bet on it just being some detractor with a little command line skill and time to kill.
Phil is very bad at keeping his business to himself. It wouldn't surprise me if he has leaked his IP info at some point in the past. He also is a creature of habit, so, if someone wanted to find Phil's IP, they could just watch network traffic before he starts his stream and then watch to see what hosts are talking and narrow it down from there.
Not really hard work, just tedious.
