@@NoisyPixelNews Its just a cute little game for fans. I do think its worth the 60 dollar tag, as the content in the game more than makes up for the price, but I can see how its not for everyone. There are quite a few missed opportuinities.
It reminds me of those ps2 Japanese jank games but I LOVE IT. The game is made for fans as you truly see how harsh the abyss is, even at just the first layer. Seeing Riko stand next to Ozen was jaw dropping as it really shows how tall she is too
@@PravusTheKid Exactly!! Coming back to this after becoming a moon whistle... The game REALLY gets going after it stops holding your hand in story mode and throws you head first into the abyss. Get through the story. Please. The real fun is the rpg after it. Weapon and skill trees, crafting, outfits, weapons, food recipes- makes you feel just like an explorer in the show. It gets SO good. The story is like a 2 hour tutorial. Wish you could skip it but Reg is fun to fight along side with. Also a certain fluffy favorite is in there!
Looks nice cheers for review blind bought that collectors edition 💪 went back been watching your mary skelter reviews always rewatch some of the classics
I've always believed that Made in Abyss had the makings for a LEGENDARY multiplayer survival/treasure-hunting game in it. I hope this at least comes close to that, especially since I tend to end up playing solo anyway.
Just got through the 5 hour Hello Abyss mode which was easy peasy. Deep In Abyss will probably likely hit with more challenges for sure as it takes the player deeper into the abyss itself. I'm wanting to find out how the story plays out as a normal cave raider :3
Good review, I feel the same, it is confusing at first, when I started playing I was constantly wondering if I should keep items and when I'll finally get some kind of storage place to put all these valuable items. And in the second play mode I was shocked at the durability loss (20 hits to break on the pickaxe) and I was flipping out for a while when I got hit with the sheer number of mobs, the moment you encounter an enemy it seems they will constantly respawn near you slightly off camera and seemingly endlessly... I somehow forgot you could craft these weapons for reasonable little amounts of materials... and ended up going back and buying a new pickaxe every time mine broke and feeling very frustrated about the game... However re-discovering that picks could be crafted and remembering that you can crouch to hide from nearby (spawning) enemies... really was encouraging, and I'm really enjoying the flow of the game, it is very true to the anime(has the same English VA's too, very cool), and is a nice addition to it for fans as you say. Having not read the manga I kind of wanted to see more of the low level raiding action and you get that in this game. The more time I put into it the more I feel like I'm rewarded with sticking with it, reminds me a bit of monster hunter also. The game release timing is pretty great too, perfect way to get back into the story now that season 2 has released...
Nice to hear dubs are making a comeback for these more niche anime games. Surprised you didn't mention the brutal death scenes in this game. I saw a few video of some of them and holy crap this game doesn't hold back on the gore.
brutal is an understatement, im up to about 15 or so unique different death animations i have seen, including: falling off the map, falling to my death and bleeding out of my head, getting eaten by frogs, getting eaten by a corpse weaver, getting my ENTIRE HEAD TAKEN OFF by some enemy (forgot which one it was), and getting skewered in 3 different ways (and a few more i guess).
Hopefully another developer will take another shot at the concept for the game. Just needed a bigger budget and bigger team working on it to give it the respectable world and mechanical depth it deserves. I'm not that far. But I have a feeling you won't be able to even go past the 5th layer in unlockable mode. Even though I thought I remember seeing images online of white whistle skills. That was the one thing I wish I knew about. Not that it would change the approach to the game either way. Just helps its value if anything.
i mean, i have the OPTION of going on a final dive since i reached the bottom of the 5th layer, haven't tried it yet, but since i cant get the white whistle rank with the current 5 layers, i suspect at least SOME 6th layer shenanigans, haven't done it yet though
@@Lemonade_Stand_ first you have sort of a tutorial, with the chars from the anime. After you finish that, you unlock the real game, where you start with a new original character but no skills or weapons. In the rpg way you have to start gaining skills and better gear. The game gets really hard and you can lose a couple of hours of gameplay if you run out of resources while inside the abyss.
If someone hasn't yet watched the anime, would you recommend they watch it first before starting the game? Or should they just jump straight into the game?
I would watch the anime before playing the game, I think it would be better to experience this story while watching the anime adaptation with its incredible soundtrack, voice acting and visuals. Besides, the first season is only 12 episodes which you will probably be binging and finish in no time.
Already have played over 30 hours of this game... I agree with the fact that durability is the main issue when delving deep, good news is that in the fourth layer you get a special item if you complete a certain quest line which is called the scaled umbrella it has only 1 attack damage (above character base, that is), but a bazillion durability... i use it all the time. another tip to deal with durability is that when you return to orth, your tools all get refreshed, so if you have a expensive/rare weapon that you dont want to lose, use it til its in the red, then dont use it anymore til you get back to the surface. edit: forgot to mention, on deeper layers, food becomes a MASSIVE issue, i advise bringing large amounts of light food down when you go on a deep dive (usually i bring 15 of the adult onigiri to the fifth layer so that i can make it all the way down, then back up to fast travel from the fourth, i usually run only have 1 or 2 left after that)
Much more than just light food, I advice taking enough light ingredients (salt etc.) to be able to make more food on the go. Especially on the way back... just planning your route to go past a place where you know you can get meat or fish helps a lot with having to carry less :')
Note: i have now hit 57 hours on my deep in abyss slot, i recently did the final dive cutscene and have found out that layer 6 doesn't exist, but now i am a white whistle and have access to post-game content, which there is surprisingly a boss for
@Rene Colin Okay, yeah, this makes sense considering your other comment I just replied to xD I'm currently 10 hours into the second mode and reached the fourth layer.
@Rene Colin took me about 30 or so hours to reach black whistle, im now on the long grind to prepare for my final dive. (getting the best gear i can since this is definitely gonna be hard... if starting the last dive does something, which i suspect it does)
This game is a huge dissapointment in my opinion, the anime is about venturing into the world of the abyss and in this game I don't feel like I'm venturing, felt like I was going thru a boring script. I know the game's purpose is to retell the story through playing the game but everuthing is so dull that choosing to watching the Anime instead to understand the story would be a no brainer.
@@pureevil9496 I'm pretty sure Amazon had an preorder link for a long time. I didn't even know it was an anime at the time. I'll check. Time hasn't exactly moved at normal speeds for the last few years.

Was pleasantly surprised that this game was dubbed as the previous anime games, be it One Punch Man, or Sword Art Online Alocization Lycoris, were both subbed (let face it, if a company wants to release an anime game outside Japan, they need to consider investing in either a company who specializes in English dubbing, or better yet, pay the English dub VAs extra and have them reprise their roles in the game).
Made in abyss game right alongside the season 2 of made in abyss on hidive. Looks like a mini version of monster hunter rise but retaining the essence and dark lore of the anime. Love Luci Christian and Brittany lauda in this and it's the second video game dub by Sentai filmworks , first being monark
"This mode tells an original story that doesn't hold back when delivering some genuinely gruesome and emotional story beats." So, basically like the original Made in Abyss story?
On one hand im interested in the game because of the mechanichs of the sevond mode, but the graphics look bad even by switch standards (hope the other consoles will get a graphics upgrade, even if i don't need it) and being forced to play the story mode first is kind of aan odd choice to say the least
ugh... Imagine watching the anime and imagine a game where you play as Reg with his cool stuff just so you play as Riko and he is just there get stucked in the background and saving you when you die... Thats a big no no for me.
Idk why people are hating on spike chunsoft, they've shown they can make good games, I think they just needed more of a budget to be able to do this game more justice. They had the right ideas, the execution is just not up to par with what it could be
I think part of the problem is that made in abyss is already set up to be a great rpg with how the lore of the world is and its hard to fit everything without something being underwhelming or cut. Ntm rpgs as a whole tend to have more bugs and glitches than other genres because of how much developers try and put into them. But people want immersive rpgs and you can't be immersed when you can't do something
All in all as far as a non visual novel game from spike chunsoft, light years above ultra despair girls but it could be better and I hope rain code meets my expectations. And if we get another made in abyss game from them I hope they improve on the issues people have been having with the game
Ngl looks kinda fun, but idk about the full $60 price. Gonna get it regardless cause I actually like the concept of the show. Hell maybe it'll actually be good gameplay wise
Of course, not too happy with Spike Chunsoft being the publisher. But it's not too bad. I did got confused too with why I need all these stuff at the tutorial but it does properly give a good tutorial for dia mode. The spawn rates are very alarming, look away for a sec and that mob you killed just reappears infront of you ad infinitum. Climb some ledges and some creatures wants to say hi. Go in a 2v1 fight, it's a 6v1 suddenly. Best strategy is to just sneak and don't fight. Also, use Japanese voice
about the spawns: they only initiate their spawning off-screen i noticed, so take advantage of that by keeping your camera on enemy spawn locations oh, and on deeper layers, enemies just spawn in certain zones behind your camera by defauly, got my characters rear bitten like 300 times cuz of the stupid 3rd/4th layer bugs
I am currently playing this game (just got the black whistle). so far I am enjoying it, but some of the monsters quest are just beyond annoying. Way too much grinding. It’s actually a better game then I expected it would be. But I also had very low expectations.
This anime needed Bandai Namco or Level-5 to make its game adaptation fully realized. Still a decent attempt but man this game is such a grind fest that I need to use trainer to save time and major frustrations due to its many design flaws
With the very bad "difficulty" things they half-heartedly included. And the AMAZING things they cut from this game. The devs and moreso the publisher disrespected everyone with the trashheap they released. Thank God for modders. The game is actually fun after some fixing. Edit: 7/10?! Everyone enjoys different things. Like what you like. But did Noisy Pixel play the second part of the game? Any thoughts on the ungodly broken spawning problem?
man, if they can't try hard enough to do a well rounded game, just don't do this shit. People on Nintendo systems are so used to crap, they take anything.
Looks decent. Sucks that the soundtrack in the game isn't even as near as great as the anime. I love the series also and I am so invested in Abyss. So for those who are new to this and with a question whether to watch/read first before playing? You can do so at the same time. Just ready your heart as you watch.
Considering that most of the cost of the game is probably the licenses, the game probably would've been $70+ USD if they also had to buy the rights to use the music license.
@@davegutz8812 Oh, I 100% agree from a consumer perspective. From a business perspective, I can see why that price is so high. Honestly, the game would've been cheaper if they cut out the Japanese dub. But again, I'm not saying consumers should buy the game at the current price. $30 USD MAX I would say. I don't mind buying it for $60 because that's still cheaper than the PS2 games I use to buy back in the day. So it doesn't come as much as a shock for me.
Unless they selling it for 10 bucks or less im not touching it. Graphics are too outdated for my liking, but cant blame them when a dev that makes visual novels becomes too ambitious
ugh, 4 hours of tutorial! Man, this should be more like an adult game, no holding hand and let you explore the abyss (Like the source material), they should have expend more time in the other mode rather than the Riko and Reg one, so for me this will be a pass, I have to little time fot this kind of journey :( Also artistically don look near to the manga or anime, so why bother? (PD: I read a lot of comment talking about "anime games", and I know that is a thing, but a the end what really matters to me, if is a good game)
@@NoisyPixelNews it seems that the game goes only to the third layer, even in deep in abyss. Is this true? Because if it is so this would make me feel like it's just a half game

Most people rated this game at 7/10 listen I don’t make a lot of money but the fact that this cost $59.99 is crazy 😂 4/10 $9.99-$19.99 or even $34.99 is more appropriate for $59.99 is wild 1. What I’m about to say is basically irrelevant, but I could re-create this experience with a couple of mods, and server programs in Minecraft 2. This is minor and nitpicky, but for the graphics are really really really really bad for a game that came out anytime past 2013 I get it it’s not meant to be cream of the crop like GTA 5 but it’s graphics are comparable to GTA 3 a game, released 22 years ago 3. You just mentioned a linear AI and while I could go ahead and take a shot at the game play loot being a linear gain more do more, kind of like Elden ring I’m not going to because that’s a good formula but having linear Enemy is atrocious 4. They required a story mode Do you have to get there before you can play the actual game that doesn’t have any carryover to the actual game and report to 5 hours according to you which means if you’re not sightseeing and have played a few times you could probably speed run it in 2-3 still very long for it to have no carry over to the actual game and be required You’d be hard-pressed to get me behind this for a game that cost more than $5 much less one that cost $60 I’m not doing it this would be mildly annoying even irritating if it was free 5. It’s not co-op even though it’s a good idea for it to be co-op. Why would I want to go into the abyss alone? I’m not saying like I should be able to find other people Indian everywhere like you can in trove but the option to play with other people should still be available. Maybe you can mix it with a team of 6-8 in party or you can have the option to play on a server with up to 100-200 people after the landscaping stated to be 1000m across and a big downfall of games today is that their co-ops are either really bad or they don’t have one Minecraft as long as it’s been around has a really bad PC co-op experience you have to create a server to play with other people that to me is just ridiculous Because I’ve made one and it’s not worth the time or energy to play with one person, especially on a modded server Really this is the only thing that is stopping me from playing this game the fact it cost over $20 being $15 maybe $10 you could probably convince me if I see enough good game play but $60 just predatory towards fans of the anime, who expect an amazing product just to be greeted with this I also wanna make the distinction between a product in the story the anime is a story it is very interesting, very original and very cool. The gameplay, however, is really bad when you compare to other game Games and anime just don’t mix animes related to games if you’re going to make them should be made after the game is successful making a game related to an anime is guaranteed to look really bad, because one of them is always gonna be outside by the other, which is why I kind of shit with the idea of a live action Minecraft
This game is Broken. If your last weapon breaks and you don’t have any bones its over. You won’t be able to attack nor will you be able to get bones or food. No food means a slow painful death. Why, why, why is there no default punching attack
graphics aren't a major factor in enjoying gameplay personally, but, after my friend told me it looked like something out of a mobile game, i reconsidered. 'cause... it's true 😭. 60 dollars in my region's pricing is way too crazy for that. i spent less on elden ring.
You forgot to go over the janky-ness of this shit game. Textures pop in and out, floor can disappear, objects like trees and rocks can shift, enemies spawn instantly, you can easily get stuck while trying to runaway.
This game would have been co-op gold.

It does such a good job at portraying a young child would feel traveling through the abyss. Twin falls still gives me anxiety, man.
Never expected a game from this. Looks alot more interesting than the Sword art games. Gotta watch this anime soon.

One of my favorite mangas! Kinda disappointing they weren’t as thoughtful in developing this.
Yea it’s such a good manga!
I keep seeing mention of the manga, but only found the anime a few years back, and season 2 recently. Is the manga complete or ongoing?
@@Howl4514 ongoing
@@NoisyPixelNews Yeah it’s definitely ongoing. Still some ways to go before it’s completed.
The manga scares me. Well… rather the mangaka scares me. Dude’s got some blunt issues.
Thank you
I've always believed that Made in Abyss had the makings for a LEGENDARY multiplayer survival/treasure-hunting game in it.
Is it worth it to grind anything in hello or does nothing carry over ?
Oh cute animation for a game, must be a nice game for kids
It's not....it's really not...
ahahahahahahahahahaha, nice joke
Yea it’s messed up for sure!
brutal is an understatement, im up to about 15 or so unique different death animations i have seen, including: falling off the map, falling to my death and bleeding out of my head, getting eaten by frogs, getting eaten by a corpse weaver, getting my ENTIRE HEAD TAKEN OFF by some enemy (forgot which one it was), and getting skewered in 3 different ways (and a few more i guess).
I can't believe this game flew under my radar because I love the anime
Tip for anyone who hasn't already suffered bring a good amount of salt on any trip to deeper layers it will save you hours of lost progress.
*character stands still for 2 seconds moths and birds* "so you have chosen death"
Spike Chunsoft really should have polished this one..
Im not sure this is a $60 purchase for me, seems like a nice game but not at that price.
I can see that
Yeah, the game seemed interesting and then I saw the huge price tag. I guess much of the price comes from licensing the IP.

@Rene Colin So agree that game was way over priced just because of its name
Jeez. I really wanted to play as Reg. Thanks for saving me money.
50 hours in, loving this game. You have to endure the 3 hours tutorial tho
50 hrs? It's that long? Ok i may get this game then. I thought it was a short game and was kind of put off by that.
@@Ironfist76 gotcha thanks.
If someone hasn't yet watched the anime, would you recommend they watch it first before starting the game? Or should they just jump straight into the game?
Just jump in. It only spoils like 1 thing from the anime but the 2nd season is coming so watch it anyway

I agree with the fact that durability is the main issue when delving deep, good news is that in the fourth layer you get a special item if you complete a certain quest line which is called the scaled umbrella
it has only 1 attack damage (above character base, that is), but a bazillion durability... i use it all the time.
another tip to deal with durability is that when you return to orth, your tools all get refreshed, so if you have a expensive/rare weapon that you dont want to lose, use it til its in the red, then dont use it anymore til you get back to the surface.
edit: forgot to mention, on deeper layers, food becomes a MASSIVE issue, i advise bringing large amounts of light food down when you go on a deep dive (usually i bring 15 of the adult onigiri to the fifth layer so that i can make it all the way down, then back up to fast travel from the fourth, i usually run only have 1 or 2 left after that)
slightly unrelated note here: HELP ME PLEASE I AM ADDICTED TO THIS GAME I HAVE BASICALLY PLAYED THIS GAME ALL DAY THE LAST FEW DAYS
Much more than just light food, I advice taking enough light ingredients (salt etc.) to be able to make more food on the go. Especially on the way back... just planning your route to go past a place where you know you can get meat or fish helps a lot with having to carry less :')
@@DerTomatenToaster yea, forgot to mention that, usually i bring ~30 salt as well
Note: i have now hit 57 hours on my deep in abyss slot, i recently did the final dive cutscene and have found out that layer 6 doesn't exist, but now i am a white whistle and have access to post-game content, which there is surprisingly a boss for

@Rene Colin took me about 30 or so hours to reach black whistle, im now on the long grind to prepare for my final dive. (getting the best gear i can since this is definitely gonna be hard... if starting the last dive does something, which i suspect it does)
wow i was about to overlook this game great video
This game is a huge dissapointment in my opinion, the anime is about venturing into the world of the abyss and in this game I don't feel like I'm venturing, felt like I was going thru a boring script. I know the game's purpose is to retell the story through playing the game but everuthing is so dull that choosing to watching the Anime instead to understand the story would be a no brainer.
Ofc my Collectors edition did not show up at Gamestop. Hopefully it will arrive soon, I want to get into this game already!
I've been looking forward to this review. I think I might have preordered this in... 2018.. 2019. A long time ago...

So how many layers of the Abyss can you actually explore?
Five.
They asking for a AAA 60 dollar price mark for this!?? You’ve got to be joking 💀

Also, use Japanese voice
about the spawns: they only initiate their spawning off-screen i noticed, so take advantage of that by keeping your camera on enemy spawn locations
oh, and on deeper layers, enemies just spawn in certain zones behind your camera by defauly, got my characters rear bitten like 300 times cuz of the stupid 3rd/4th layer bugs
Is this combat souls like?
I am currently playing this game (just got the black whistle). so far I am enjoying it, but some of the monsters quest are just beyond annoying. Way too much grinding. It’s actually a better game then I expected it would be. But I also had very low expectations.
This anime needed Bandai Namco or Level-5 to make its game adaptation fully realized.
Still a decent attempt but man this game is such a grind fest that I need to use trainer to save time and major frustrations due to its many design flaws
Every fear has come true
What a shame so much potential.
I don't see how anyone could finish the story mode in 4 hours. Took me twice that.
for me it was 5hrs since found out gathering stuff is useless in story mode.
The spawning problem is a issue in the show isn't it?
man, if they can't try hard enough to do a well rounded game, just don't do this shit.
@@GoodwillWright Yeah, no doubt. Though the current build, at least for me, doesn't justify or deserve the full price.

Most people rated this game at 7/10 listen I don’t make a lot of money but the fact that this cost $59.99 is crazy 😂 4/10 $9.99-$19.99 or even $34.99 is more appropriate for $59.99 is wild
1. What I’m about to say is basically irrelevant, but I could re-create this experience with a couple of mods, and server programs in Minecraft
2. This is minor and nitpicky, but for the graphics are really really really really bad for a game that came out anytime past 2013 I get it it’s not meant to be cream of the crop like GTA 5 but it’s graphics are comparable to GTA 3 a game, released 22 years ago
3. You just mentioned a linear AI and while I could go ahead and take a shot at the game play loot being a linear gain more do more, kind of like Elden ring I’m not going to because that’s a good formula but having linear Enemy is atrocious
4. They required a story mode Do you have to get there before you can play the actual game that doesn’t have any carryover to the actual game and report to 5 hours according to you which means if you’re not sightseeing and have played a few times you could probably speed run it in 2-3 still very long for it to have no carry over to the actual game and be required You’d be hard-pressed to get me behind this for a game that cost more than $5 much less one that cost $60 I’m not doing it this would be mildly annoying even irritating if it was free
5. It’s not co-op even though it’s a good idea for it to be co-op. Why would I want to go into the abyss alone? I’m not saying like I should be able to find other people Indian everywhere like you can in trove but the option to play with other people should still be available. Maybe you can mix it with a team of 6-8 in party or you can have the option to play on a server with up to 100-200 people after the landscaping stated to be 1000m across and a big downfall of games today is that their co-ops are either really bad or they don’t have one Minecraft as long as it’s been around has a really bad PC co-op experience you have to create a server to play with other people that to me is just ridiculous
Because I’ve made one and it’s not worth the time or energy to play with one person, especially on a modded server
Really this is the only thing that is stopping me from playing this game the fact it cost over $20 being $15 maybe $10 you could probably convince me if I see enough good game play but $60 just predatory towards fans of the anime, who expect an amazing product just to be greeted with this I also wanna make the distinction between a product in the story the anime is a story it is very interesting, very original and very cool. The gameplay, however, is really bad when you compare to other game
Games and anime just don’t mix animes related to games if you’re going to make them should be made after the game is successful making a game related to an anime is guaranteed to look really bad, because one of them is always gonna be outside by the other, which is why I kind of shit with the idea of a live action Minecraft
I'm a huge fan of the Manga, but i think i'll pass. Kinda looks worse than Dark Chronicle (Dark Cloud 2) on the PS2.
ewwww, looks like it's made in unity
Nah bruh, game looks and plays like a PS2 game, the audacity to charge $60 for this is abysmal.
This game is Broken. If your last weapon breaks and you don’t have any bones its over. You won’t be able to attack nor will you be able to get bones or food. No food means a slow painful death. Why, why, why is there no default punching attack
That’s…such a good point
if you can get to the surface, then your good
simply go on a few easy runs in the first layer, yoink some stuff, sell the stuff, buy a weapon
because the characters don't punch their enemies, they run from them
No xbox 😢
At least Lopez was a joy to listen to, shame this game looks bland as can be.

the graphics bruh 😭
Nihon Falcom also aren't graphic masters but the rest matters more
graphics aren't a major factor in enjoying gameplay personally, but, after my friend told me it looked like something out of a mobile game, i reconsidered. 'cause... it's true 😭. 60 dollars in my region's pricing is way too crazy for that. i spent less on elden ring.

@Rene Colin sure gameplay is the most important aspect - but its hard to get immersed when it looks like shit, still might give it a try tho
You forgot to go over the janky-ness of this shit game.
Textures pop in and out, floor can disappear, objects like trees and rocks can shift, enemies spawn instantly, you can easily get stuck while trying to runaway.
