I was hesitant aswell when I first saw it in the store I’m like I need it! But when I checked it out I’m like this looks like it isn’t worth $60 so I’ll wait until there’s a price drop or discount on it. Very detailed review thank you!

I agree the first mode was depressingly bland, but deep in abyss has been surprisingly fun. I’m not saying this as an excuse for the terrible controls in pc, but after a bit of remapping, I did get used to them. Also, I’m excited for the story of the second mode, seeing as Tsukushi himself came up with it. All in all, I recommend it to any hardcore Mia fan. But for any casual gamers, wait for a big discount. I can’t excuse that price at all. Oh, also, watch the anime before playing the game. I does a major disservice for the main story.
I was absolutely disappointed to the Anime story mode, it's like what you said, doesn't feel like exploring was fun there. Couple of things I hate as well are: Fast travel (should be opional), cut scences (terrible and bland), Some Relics should be usable, etc... But I haven't play Deep in Abyss yet, and hearing you giving some good things about it, I'm exciting to play that mode!
I bought the game recently, partially because I loved the first season of Made in Abyss (haven't gotten to the movie or season two yet), and my best friend-who is a massive fan of the series-has been having a blast playing the game himself, so curiosity got the better of me.
From my experience, the game is frustrating. Between the glitches, the laughable weapon durability, to the unfair and downright brutal the combat system and enemies can be, I've been wanting to rage quit more often than not.
At the same time, though, its addicting. I like exploring the Abyss, gathering relics, learning more about the environment (even when every single thing there wants to kill you), and rising through the Whistle ranks. It's all quite fascinating, and I'm curious to see where the main storyline goes (I haven't finished it yet).

Made In Abyss world building has the perfect potential for an open world rpg type of game. I'm kinda disappointed.
Word of advice, I heavily advise you to carry an ungodly amount of salt if your delving quite deep into the abyss (AKA; until you reach a fast travel point or have to travel all the way back up) OR bring a hilarious amount of food AND salt as you’re at higher risk to get softlocked if you’re out of food and have no means to to get food and if you run out of “fullness”, your hunger meter that allows you to travel, run, climb, and attack then you’re kinda screwed. If you have no energy to do anything then how can you get food or travel (as you need fullness and sometime HP to travel around and if you don’t meet either expectation then you can’t travel)? I would know as I’ve nearly lost hours of gameplay four times. First, when I had to traverse back from the second layer and first to the surface with limited food and materials to make the journey and one now where I am struggling to traverse the fourth and third layer to reach the second layer to fast travel with a single dish (I was underprepared even after all this time)
(Granted, I got out of the first situation AFTER I got softlocked. I had a previous save file a couple of minutes before I delved too far with limited food and no salt)
I have bought Collector's edition for 87$ and don't regret it 😄

I don't like how vague the instructions can be, I still don't know how to open the crafting menu on the nintendo version, if anyone knows pls tell me 🙏
By the time the game gets a good discount, there should appear many mods that will make the player's experience better. People already delved deep into the game files and discovered many relics from the scrapped survival elements like day/night cycle, different weather conditions, pooping and pissing mechanic in addition to other ascending effects that would make your character smelly which would attract bugs and small critters to you (and not a hidden spawn timer on a map which is going easy for the devs and a nuisance for the payers who like to slowly and carefully explore the Abyss) and many more. Hopefully those features will be implemented (by mods, because the company doesn't care/bother as we've already seen in the previous games).
But hey, the character animations are better than in Zero Time Dilemma, so it's an improvement I guess... 😂
I knew it would be a rough game ever since the trailer came out. But I love the story so much that I won't care for it. When I have the money for it ima get it at full price just to contribute to the manga however way I can.
Thanks for the detailed review. I was hesitant to get it myself. Might wait for a discount now. It's a bummer there isn't that much depth to the combat. I would imagine using all sorts of relics to change up your fightimg style might make for a great game on its own.
Honestly yeah, the ability to use relics for combat alone would just make the game loads better. A shame it feels like they were rushed to develop, and had to sacrifice a lot of what could've made for a great game.
My question is, and it will determine whether I get it. Can you venture to the bottom in the second half?

I just came across someone else's video where they just showcase all the unique death scenes and I'm honestly just having a really hard time understanding how and why this exists.
Alright if you didn't even did the second mode then you missed out an the actual game, hello abyss is just a kindaa tutorial you should run through it takes likes 3 hours and then the real game begins! Really enjoying this one🔥
I didn't even realize this released until just now, i can see nobody talked about it, I didn't even know. The graphics really are just not that great considering how good what it is based on looks. But that isn't very surprising because this game is on the switch and in the words of MoistCritical "The nintendo switch can barely even run mobile games" Or something along those lines. That device is archaic.

I think the game looks fine. It's anime art. Not supposed to look like Elden Ring. More cartoony. What pisses me off is the constant mob respawns. Makes the game almost unplayable. This isn't an issue in the story mode. Only the main game. Seems like killing one thing just opens the floodgates. The same 2 birds constantly coming back every few seconds after you killed the first. It's ridiculous. I would not recommend buying this game until they fix that stupid shit. It's so god damn awful.
Well the retail cost of this game was 40$ not 60$. The collector edition was 60$ and now it’s selling for 90 on the secondary market so this is a more rare game now. Would I recommend collectors to buy this game? Yes but would I recommend them to buy it for $90 no I would recommend them trying to find it on GameStop or other platforms before all of the copies diminish as a game player would I recommend this for $40 yes buy anything more no
The glitches and problems the game has really make you feel like you're in a life or death struggle trying to traverse the Abyss 10/10, perfect amount of glitches to spice up the difficulty.
Joking aside, what I like most about the game are the many different zones you can explore, for fans of the anime it's a real added value to kind of experience those areas where they passed through rather quickly in the show... the level design is creative and you are constantly wondering if you have what it takes to keep going, or have enough resources to actually make it back... no run is guaranteed to survive and I've been in situations where it was nearly impossible to return. I haven't had to outright give up on a cave raid yet, but I'm sure it's bound to happen. It can be exciting, tense, frustrating, intriguing... definitely a must get for fans of the show imho.
Granted it's not perfect, it is still very good and has a lot to offer, who knows what it would have been in a different studios hands, it could have been more polished, but it would have been different, and what we have here is something quite special.

Honest to god I think the hello abyss mode is awful, purely due to how it doesn't prepare you for the main mode at all. I feel like Reg makes it way too easy to the point where you struggle going into the main game. And I also got lost so many times playing this game, I really appreciate how big and fleshed out it is but it's also a downfall due to how hard it can be to navigate certain areas. I definitely got lost a lot in layer 1 and layer 3 especially. Also like you said, the Hello Abyss mode is too linear, it doesn't properly prepare you at all for the rest of the journey. I bet I'm not the only one who didn't buy salt and got fucked later on by that choice. Honestly though with the graphics they aren't the worst, I mean they're pretty awful to be fair but once you get used to the game it's fine. With the plot, it's pretty obvious how that plays out, I realized the plot twist the second Aki and Tiare said they both wanted to be white whistles. But besides that the lore with Tiare is an interesting mystery, haven't finished the game yet but I'm close and it's already intriguing finding out his backstory. I definitely agree that it's not worth $60, this game has unbelievably pissed me off and I think I would've been gutted if I spent so much money on it, I'm so glad I waited until it was half off. I also hate how Nanachi is in the marketing yet only appears for 5 minutes in a cutscene that I totally missed and just went back for. I definitely think it's a good game for fans of MiA, I definitely see why everyone was saying that because it represents what it's truly like to be a cave raider. Crazy that Riko wanting to go down the abyss all alone.
I dont think the combat and the graphics were the biggest focuses of the game and honestly im fine with the way they are.
What annoys me is the infinite monster spawns of creatures constantly harassing you the durability for weapons is pretty bad when you combine that with bad hunger bar depletion bad stamina bar bad weapon durability and the fact that its very easy to become overweight its a pure recipe for disaster. My number one cause of death has been falling to my death. I dont like the way they did fast travel in the game it could use a lot more improvement. The fast travel was especially bad on the third and fourth layer.
I really hated those sections of the story i havent beaten the 5th layer yet because im trying to grind out quests but even those are quite tedious once you have to kill 30 of these things or more or when you have to craft equipment. Im still trying to figure out where to find strong scales besides giving glowing rocks for repeating quests. My friend is a hardcore made in abyss fan but even he doesn't even want to touch this game until some issues are fixed....
Honestly, I'm hoping they do release patches or updates to address some of the more major issues in the game instead of abandoning it.

This game is one of those that i will hate for how long and annoying it was. BUT! It's that rare type of games that will make you comeback and finish playing, but in the end you will just tired of this big hole (i used cheat, yes it will make you give up or find other ways to finish it and if you won't cheat/mod then you're gigachad for sure)
Too much of this video is wasted talking about Hello Abyss and not the game.
If you a Made in Abyss fan, yes. Buy it.

Especially one literally titled "should you buy the Made in Abyss game?". 😭 If your review was just a blanket review of the game it could have been fine, but the title shows your target audience is specifically those who have not purchased the game. This should have been completely spoiler free even for stuff at the beginning of the game since your review is for those who aren't even that far in the game.
