I bought this bike a month ago and have loved every second on it. Heading up the mountains shows what fun this bike can be. I am shorter, 5'7 and have a hard time finding a bike to fit my legs. This bike is a lot of fun.
I have one of these, and having owned nearly 20 bikes in my lifetime this is #1. Its so comfortable, its like riding a couch. The power is acceptable, but the low end torque is where this bike really sines. You can get up and go from a stand still and clear an intersection in the blink of an eye. I like to know the power is there if I need it when I'm city riding. Don't let the weight fool you, I swear this bike handles just as well as my old 1983 Yamaha Maxim 650 I use to own (453lbs). I swear you can toss this 745lb monster around like a dirt bike. Best bike I've ever owned, hand down. I'll be keeping it for years to come.
You must be a Honda spokesman. The CTX is hardly a great bike as I own one too. Have owned many Hondas which I would any day take over the CTX. You must live where the roads are perfectly smooth to say it's like riding on a couch. without a doubt one of the worse bikes I ever owned.
I've been a Harley owner for the past twenty years; own two currently (Wide Glide & Street Glide). Bought one of these last month; in the spring my Harleys will both be sold. This CTX1300 does everything my wife & I want; in a more relaxed, refined manner. It needs cruise control (McCruise makes a good one), the taller windscreen, and highway pegs and it's ready to hit the road. Lighter, lower, smaller than an F6B. Excellent bike.
I actually like footpegs better; but the highway pegs are a must. Most of the time I'm on cruise control & the highway pegs when riding..@@berniemadoff7837
CaptPuget That is very true. It is an awesome bike. Check out my channel for some vlogs I have done with it recently. I am planning a trip to Sturgis at the beginning of next month, so check out my channel for the upcoming uploads as I get ready for the trip.
The V Twins are old school and I love em but from an EPA standpoint them being old technology meeting the regulations is getting harder I would imagine .Stupid EPA.
I had one of these and flogged it all around the midwest. I got a job at a company that happens to make motorcycles, so I had to sell it. I still miss it. The V4 is the best motor a motorcycle can be built with. I loved that bike. If it had electronic cruise control, it would be the perfect machine.
An overhead cam V4, and a 7000 RPM redline? It's insane. Honda is insane. How about 9000 RPM and 120HP, or more? Stiffen up the suspension, it would have been a beast. Honda is nuts. Making the machine it knows we need. Approved by mom.
I wished that Honda had stepped down 100cc's and used the VFR1200 engine so that it could've been DCT like the 700 model and it also might have done better in sales.
It should have been pushed to 1500 and this is the best form factor for shaft drive. No power loss of right angle drive like my Honda1800VTwin Neo. Granted torque rips your elbows off.
Honda killed this too soon, it needed time for aftermarket support to develope and a little refining, like fatter tires, cruise control, and adjustable windshield. But, for 2014 it was a good first outing.
I love that bike. It has seen me through some great rides. My longest ride so far as to be from Tn to Kansas City Missouri which was about 8 hours. It was smooth, clean, and i kept up with my old man who tries to leave me in the dust lol
I had a '14 CTX 700, and I test rode one of these CTX 1300's used recently. I was looking for something better performing than the 700, but this just wasn't that bike and I couldn't bring myself to buying it. The model is an orphan, and I see why it never sold well. When comparing it to bikes like the FJR1300 and Concours 14, it's not hard to see why this bike was a dud and was available as a new model year "leftover" for a long time. Just comes down to there being better bikes out there in this size/displacement class for the buck.
so tryin to convince my soon to be 70 year old dad to trade in his ST1300 in on this byke, ol man has a hard time swinging a leg over the ST, i think it perfect!
When discussing the sound system you can see that the bike is equipped with a taller windshield. It would have been nice to have more footage of bikes equipped with this option. If I were buying this bike there is no doubt I would want a taller screen. I would also want highway pegs. Does anyone make a set for this bike ?
Technically another strong product from Honda, and of course I like that engine, being an ST1300 rider. But, the styling is going to take some time to grow on most people. I'd love to have one for a few weeks with both windscreens to evaluate.
Haven't rode one before, but I got to check it out and sit on them at the International Motorcycle Show. It was pretty comfortable, and like he said, a nice riding postion
The liquid-cooled V4 is intriguing, as is the fairing with the shorty screen and integrated bags, but no cruise control, no gear indicator, no sixth gear? Exactly what does the upsell model get me?
Nomad Ryder Cruise control is not standard on this bike, and neither is a gear indicator, but why would you need that if you know how to ride a motorcycle??? The sixth gear is for, in my opinion, long hauls, but then again, as an owner of this bike, why would I need it, when it has ABS, Traction Control, which are both important, and bluetooth capability which will work well with upcoming helmets as well as the latest smartphones, The upsell model, I think, gets you a better bike for your money, instead of having to add it in at a later date and pay extra for it, plus it is an all LED bike, which makes it brighter when riding at night as you will see from some of my videos on my channel that will show that.
Nomad Ryder LOL, It is standard with a version of this bike. Why, do you have something against ABS or Traction control on a bike? snarkfest?? LOL Why would you not need ABS or Traction control?
Don't waste your money Look for Good Used ST1300. I ride a 2004 ST1300 Purchased it for $4800 low miles with top case. Looks Much better, much faster, plus it is tried and true!
I wound up buying one . I chose it over a Guzzi 1400 California. I really like it. It isn't a perfect bike but what it is is a mile munching bike that seems like a spawn of a Guzzi that got gang raped by an Acura. Super refined , comfy seat and it handles well for a cruiser. I call it a Goldwing Jr. After a bit of accessories like a tall wind screen, the luggage box, fog lights and heated grips you're ready for the IronButt. Big drawback is the overly soft suspension and the lack of aftermarket. All in all a great touring bike.
+Robert S. I agree on the character.. I also own 2 V11s.. I think for me it was the LED headlights and the audio. just seemed super posh. I'll own a Cali one day. I am a Guzzihead.
Richard, I started with a Guzzi v7 special for first bike; wanted the California. Guzzi was fun but leaked a lot of oil the firsts 1000 miles. I do t have time to visit dealerships. Step up to a CTX much larger but smooth and reliable and no leaks....Great choice to go with Japanese engineering
+renegadebiker24 I do. I still. like it a lot. I've basically added every accessory to to . Fogs, grips, trunk, shield, etc. I will be taking it to Racetech to fix my soupy suspension . My biggest issue with the CTX is accessing the battery and fuse box. It's a puzzle of flimsy tabs and just a pain. Other than that I love it. it is not a fast motorcycle but it wasn't made to be fast. it's a mile muncher. I have sport bikes for speed...
Honda designed the bike well but forgot the mirrors!. I had to lower the bars to keep the brake cylniders from hogging the view in the small mirrors. They should have set them up higher. Anyone else?
+Patrick Logsdon I did a video about the mirrors, and how I had tried to adjust to the way the mirrors are placed. I have yet to lower the bars on mine. I was told by a few people that I would have to get a short riser and pit it on. It is on my channel under the playlist "My Motorcycle Related Reviews" and the video is called "Arm Positioning when riding a CTX 1300" , and in my playlist called "Motorcycle Vlog" with the title "Trip around Springdale part 1" and "Trip around Springdale part 2" where I discuss on how I wanted to lower the bars on my motorcycle, but I did not do it, so I ended up trying to position my arms when I ride. I think that they should have done that by making it higher, but I am wondering if it would have taken away from the overall design of the bike.
fantastic bike. comfortable, smooth through all gears, nice engine braking, excellent brakes, sound system works well. leaves one looking for excuses to ride.
Too much driveline lash, HORRID front suspension, on the deluxe the rear brakes plain suck as you have to stand on them just to make the bike slow. Are you sure your not on some other bike?
They're doing a new thing now where they have a base and deluxe model of most bikes. The base is there for a lower msrp to advertise and get you to the stealership and the deluxe is the one with the color and features you really want for $2K more.
+Siper2 Well, I do not think they make this bike anymore, thanks to the poor marketing like this video shows. I really wish they would stop scraping the exhaust, and that seems to be a common thing between the MotoUSA and these guys. You can get one now for $11,750 now, and that is the one I own, and that is the Deluxe version.
+renegadebiker24 You ever sat on one of these and then compared it to another bike. I sat on it, and it reminded me of straddling a huge beer keg, it's way to wide. Yes if you can still find them they are going for cheap. The fuel mileage was less than impressive. Many factors played a part in it's demise, marketing is the least of it.
It is odd first its called the CTX but really has nothing, nada, Zip in common with the 700 and the sad part is they didn't try and bridge off of their 700 market, so you develop a Market against the grain with the built in storage and the Automatic (Wonderful) by the way, and then you crush it by not offering anything higher in that style of Bike? Did Honda just get up one day and say hey look we have these extra CTX insignia's, now I know that this new 1300 Sherman has nothing in common with the early CTX line but did I mention we have these extra insignia's after all it's not like it's a car, it's just a Bike.
gyice It is the 700's bigger brother, and it is a great bike. Granted, it is not automatic, but I have yet to see a CTX 1300 that has an automatic transmission. I ride it whenever I can, and you can see it on my channel. The CTX 1300 is a bigger biker than the 700, yet has a little more power than the 700. The CTX 1300 is the next generation in their motorcycles, and from personal experience, I have to tell you, for a bike that has ABS and Traction Control as well as bluetooth capability, it is great.
So you like the anemic rear linked brakes? This bike is almost dangerous as you have to over use the front brake when stooping . There are reasons the CTX 1300 was discontinued after one year.
I currently ride an '06 ST1300. It dynos stock 114.1rwhp and 101 lbft. I don't see why I'd want to step down to a detuned version? Does it cut a hundred pounds? My bags pop off with the turn of the key.
I ride 2012 ST too. Nothing wrong with this bike and I love it. I tested CTX1300 before buy ST and I bought ST 1300. Last CTX was sold in my local Powersports store brand new for 12K from 19K originally MSRP. No more ST1300 ,no more CTX1300. All bike is good for somebody. Ride safe, guys.
Back then, Honda was making obvious quality cuts in their products, as I see it. There are cost saving measures evident in this bike, like a lot of flat painted hardware that used to be chromed. Fast forward to 2024, and Honda's lineup is sparse and ugly, except for maybe the Goldwing. I'm not sure what has happened to this great producer of motorcycles, but they aren't who they used to be.
I rode down and up on the Tail of the Dragon and never scraped the pegs. On a few of the video reviews, riders are pushing this bike like a sport bike and do scrape the pegs. In real world operation, I have not.
***** Well that is good. I hope to ride the tail of the dragon one day. I am going to try the Arkansas Dragon first, before the Tail of the Dragon. Did you ever run into any semis while on the Tail of the Dragon recently?
I agree, loved the looks and feel of the ST. Was hoping for it to be revived with cruise control and a sixth gear and maybe GPS but this is what we got 👎
@@DG-ie5ip Perhaps that’s true, most decision are made with the almighty dollar front and centre. But sometimes to make money you have to spend money. Most dealerships I visit these days their focus is on adventure style riding or dirt bikes. Some bikes have been cannibalized into sport touring monstrosity’s but none have the je ne sais quoi as the actual designed touring or sports touring machines of the past. Maybe I’m to old for these new styles and set in my ways to much. But these earlier touring and sports touring machine had an air and grace about them that’s missing in today’s line ups except for the Goldwing and some BMW’s.
@@340rps I only kept it 9 months. Loved: looks. sound system and DAB. led lighting. windshield protection. comfort. fixed panniers. computer. Hated: whine. panniers stupid shape and too small. no (effective) front suspension. stupid unlockable thimble pockets in dash. no power below 2k3 rpm (that one really shocked me, and the guy I fell off turning in front of) and low speed handling was horrid. Never actually seen another. :) --- oh...and if I leaned right forward (sport bike style) the rear mirrors were excellent - but in cruiser position they were behind my hands!!
honda please make a ctx 800 with the same as the 1300. forget the ctx700. it doesnt work and its lame. please make the ctx800 like the magna of bygone eras. please please
A modern liquid cooled 1300cc V4 that makes only 83 hp? The KTM 1290 twin makes that much on one cylinder! Of course in 2 years they'll bump it up, then again 3 years after that. Eventually it will have the missing power 'restored', and a lot of unhappy first year buyers.
Dude that's a completely unrelated comparison! Your bike, which is an KTM 1290, is a performance bike or a streetfighter so to say like the Kawasaki Z1000 or Ducati Streetfighter 848. The Honda CTX1300 like the Goldwing, is design for long distance cruising and comfort, not speed or performance wise and 83HP is more than enough for highway speed. If you really want to compare horsepower choose a bike in the right category: KTM is belong in the performance category (sport, super sport and even sport touring) while this bike is more in the cruising category (Harley Davidson bagger line like Road King, Streetglide or other brands). Seriously have you ever seen a touring bike race with a sport bike? It's like an armadillo try to outrun a leopard, imagine that!
Mrslowmo212 Well, how about a BMW F800ST, an 800cc twin that makes 80 HP. About the same as the Honda, but with 500cc and 200 lbs less! And only two cylinders. Makes no sense to me, but if 83 hp is more than enough, they should have given it 60 hp, like a stock Harley.
Well there's a reason why it's called a sport touring: It's lightweight, has a sport (performance) engine and can cruise for a long distance with comfortable ride posture! And for the hp part, well lets say that 83hp sounds more attractive than 60hp, don't you agree? So yeah for people who preferred performance like you this bike makes no sense at all! But for certain people (maybe middle age or older) who want a bike that look modern and sporty with capability of long touring then this bike is for them. Personally I'd rather take the bonneville t100 and convert it into touring for budget bike or just take a damn Road King with the same price! (I love Harley btw)
Paul Darling Btw, you should do some research on torque/rpm and horsepower relationship. It will tell you why high displacement engine gives out so little power (harley, this bike and other cruisers) and why low displacement engine gives out such a high power (your bike, cbr1000 or 600). Here's an easy to understand explanation www.totalmotorcycle.com/school-SectionSixB.htm
savage010 It does come with ABS and Traction Control System on the Deluxe model along with Bluetooth capability. The standard version does not have bluetooth capability, that I know of.
This guy evidently never rode the bike as the mirrors suck! suspension is horrid, hit a decent bump and it will jar your rib cage. I guess Honda is entitled to a blunder once in a while.
Nice bike but they really screwed up the hp from 115 hp down to 89 hp ! WHY? WHO KNOWS! That’s typical Honda! I wanted a revamped ST1300 with a cruise control but they came out with this thing WITH THESE AWFUL LOOKING USELESS BAGS ! so i bought an FJR1300!
I'm a ST1300 rider for 10 years. All I have to say is, why? They butchered the a ST1300, cut out all its cool, class and comfort and replaced it with ugly and dull. Heaven knows what they were aiming at?
Samer Hamod Thanks, will do. SilentPrayingmanTis I got mine as a demo for about 19,000 for the Deluxe model, and I was the only one in Northwest Arkansas that had it at the time, now the dealership has been selling some more of them. I think the Deluxe model probably goes for more than 19,000.

7,000 rpm isn't much compared to other motorcycles, but it's a hell of a lot more than a Harley.

My built sportster engine redlines around 7k
However the power stops increasing around 5k so there really isnt a reason to go to 7

Easy to adjust the valves, like on a Goldwing flat six, or BMW boxer twin.
Wish they still made these. I'd like to replace my Pacific Coast with one.

It's a shame we never got a stripped down cruiser or naked bike to show off that engine. Can't think of many bikes with a longitudinal 90° v4.
Needs bigger saddle bags for starters. Apparently you can add a Top Case. Come pretty close to being a perfect motorcycle.

Are you sure your not on some other bike?
there is little to no drive line lash on mine.. brakes are great ... this is a ctx1300
..Yea, right
You never really showed a good shot of the left side of the bike on the stand...
Have honda stopped making this I do want to try one .I think they should of made 2 options 1 without fairing and one with
When it comes to that type of bike I just prefer a inline 4 engine 🙄. It looks cool but I like the scream of a 4
No cruise control? Honda seems to be a slow learner.
Must agree, pretty dumb to not have it on this bike
They're doing a new thing now where they have a base and deluxe model of most bikes. The base is there for a lower msrp to advertise and get you to the stealership and the deluxe is the one with the color and features you really want for $2K more.
Is this CTX1300 or FJR1300 good for a new rider (meaning no past experience in motorcycles)?
It was my first bike. I had no problems whatsoever. I still love it.
I'm just going to cast my vote now, for a CTX1300N. :-]
+renegadebiker24 Gotcha. :)
+E-Nonymouse A Yes, check out my channel Renegadebiker24, and subscribe to it. I demoed a few bikes in my playlists on my channel, Renegadebiker24.
Do you have any pictures of the CTX!300 with the topbox fitted to it all ? I would be interested to how it all looks together .
imgoingforaride check out my channel for some videos of this same bike. If you like it, please comment, like and subscribe.
Mark Smith You will have to see for yourself, The total bike's weight is a little over 700 pounds, but it is a great bike.
Where is the screen? How much cost proper touring screen?
"Super silver wing" 2016
Back then, Honda was making obvious quality cuts in their products, as I see it. There are cost saving measures evident in this bike, like a lot of flat painted hardware that used to be chromed. Fast forward to 2024, and Honda's lineup is sparse and ugly, except for maybe the Goldwing. I'm not sure what has happened to this great producer of motorcycles, but they aren't who they used to be.
The question is how many times did this guy say "you know"?
***** Well, think about where he is shooting it from. I think that is part of the way they talk in California, "You know" LOL
renegadebiker24 LOL
Motorcycle M.,
Inseam on 5'11" fellow whom drove ctx1300 ?
How is it with the ground clearance..?
Saran Monaraks It is good with the ground clearance in my opinion, as long as you do not treat it rough.
Did you ever run into any semis while on the Tail of the Dragon recently?
renegadebiker24 I think trucks over 30' are prohibited now. I did run into a group of six Corvettes however :)
hola tengo una duda sobre el para brisas se puede subir o bajar
You don't need the rock guitar in the background.
I was out there when they were filming this. I saw them on the side of the road with all their cameras and shit.
Big failure a paper tiger they took a very capable ST1300 ENGINE 115 REAR WHEEL DROPPED THE POWER TO 88HP GO WONDER!!!!!
Hello, Saber.
Where is the new V4 Magna? NO! Don't charge $15K for a new V4 Magna Honda! Bad Honda! You are not Harley!
Why does your roar, mine whines.....
isn't that irritating as hell.
Is this an automatic transmission bike ?
No.
colt45y it would be nice. Vfr1200 is though
This vs ST 1300??? Thoughts
Jassima Nasima ST all the way, rather own an older ST than this ugly monstrosity
why buy this instead of a st1300 ? ...only if you want less practicality & less hp maybe a good choice
Make a cool bike with a engine that won't rev 🤦. I'd. Buy a Harley if I wanted to redline at 7000rpm .
honda please make a ctx 800 with the same as the 1300. forget the ctx700. it doesnt work and its lame. please make the ctx800 like the magna of bygone eras. please please
Paul Darling
Btw, you should do some research on torque/rpm and horsepower relationship. It will tell you why high displacement engine gives out so little power (harley, this bike and other cruisers) and why low displacement engine gives out such a high power (your bike, cbr1000 or 600). Here's an easy to understand explanation www.totalmotorcycle.com/school-SectionSixB.htm
Does it come with ABS?
ABS and combined brakes are standard on the Deluxe version.
that is a good thing to have.
thanks for the feedback.
savage010 It does come with ABS and Traction Control System on the Deluxe model along with Bluetooth capability. The standard version does not have bluetooth capability, that I know of.
I love the look of the bike... except the front end. Shame, kind of a cool setup, but just looks ugly to me.
is someone wants to sell?
Honda CTX 1300 have a reverse gear?
No reverse, being 730# it could use it.
It's more about his face than the motorcycle what a disappointment
Seems like an awesome bike, but that face... :P. Same with the new Interceptor, who is designing the fronts of these bikes?! Lol
Wilmer Vista
Bulah Fork
Yasmeen Village
Becker Field
This guy evidently never rode the bike as the mirrors suck! suspension is horrid, hit a decent bump and it will jar your rib cage. I guess Honda is entitled to a blunder once in a while.
awesome!!!^^
Who cares about trains....
I'd rather have a Rat Bike.
Stupid ugly Honda..check.
I'm a ST1300 rider for 10 years. All I have to say is, why? They butchered the a ST1300, cut out all its cool, class and comfort and replaced it with ugly and dull. Heaven knows what they were aiming at?
I learned nothing from this review.
Sorry to hear about your learning disability 🙁
So if you're looking for a goofy motorcycle less interesting in a train, but that handles like one, check it out.
Sure.
Great concept but it looks awful.
Definitely fell out of the ugly tree.
I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I like the look.
What a hideous creation. Honda hasn't come out with a bike I would buy for many years, they seem to get worse and worse.
LOL, Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and as a owner of this bike, I love it.
+renegadebiker24 ignore him, man, I absolutely love the look and overall performance of this unique bike! Enjoy your awesome ride (safely), sir!
Samer Hamod Thanks, will do. He used to be a former subscriber, and yet he does not know what he is talking about, probably because he never owned one like we do. :) Will do. :) When you get a chance, stop by my channel and see what I have done so far, and if you want to, subscribe to it. I upload consistently. :) I am making a video of my first oil change, and I am running into some problems along the way. The next part I have to do is the oil filter change, and it seems that the oil filter strap metal wrench is not working. Going to have to get something else.
renegadebiker24 sorry for the late response! Just subbed, but I gotta clarify something: I got to ride a friend '14 CTX, I unfortunately dont own one (yet :) ). Anyways, love your content and way to explaining things, your channel might be very useful when I get my hands on one of those beauties. :D
A friend's*; way of*, oops
way to much, I could buy a used 1200 sportster and a life time supply of chocolate for what they are asking at msrp. pEace OUT : /~
SilentPrayingmanTis I got mine as a demo for about 19,000 for the Deluxe model, and I was the only one in Northwest Arkansas that had it at the time, now the dealership has been selling some more of them. I think the Deluxe model probably goes for more than 19,000.
