XS400 Build - Custom Starter Solenoid And Reg/Rec Mounts
ฝัง

- XS400 build continues with making custom starter solenoid and regulator/rectifier mounts for a very clean and compact setup! This is the first time I have tried to mount these in a location like this so I am very curious to see how it turns out when I get to the point of wiring. All of the electrical components come from NWT Cycletronic should you wish to use the same.
Solenoid mount is made from 16g steel
Reg/rec mount is made from 14g steel and a 7/8 section of tube

These are my favorite kind of videos. Your attention to detail, and fab skills are fun to watch .
I appreciate it and glad you enjoyed!
I am 70 and dig your music.
🤘🤘
I’m a year behind ya Gary and yea, the music is perfect 👍🏻
Excited to see this bike take shape! Nice to see some fabrication stuff again. Ignore the haters on the music, it's well executed and makes the video much more enjoyable.
Thanks Josh! Happy to be back on it
Ignore the haters. You do you. The only time music is bad is when I can't hear the narration.
You should do one week internships with your viewers. Hands on learning for us, free help for you (or you could charge us for it 😮)
DJ BJ in the house. Brackets look great, quality work as always.
😁🤘🤘
I never noticed the music before. Music only annoys me if I cant hear the person talk and don't ever remember that being a problem here.
I've always been good about not putting too much music over me talking but many have a problem with any music at all
*can'T I bet you meant to say?
@@irocss85 thank you
@@BrickHouseBuilds I gotta say you made me laugh the way you were taking the piss out of yourself. Brick House Builds DJ. Rock the house down or the workshop...lol
Im always down for a good revival, but seeing you fab stuff up is always a favorite vid!
🤘🤘
Intricate work, very neat. Looking forward to see it in completed glory.
Thank ya
Will be a sweet ride with everything cleaned up and out of the way . RIDE SAFE OUT THERE!
"Hater Tears," is that a new energy drink? Love it! Nice little Easter egg there.
Glad you caught it! 🤣
Nice job, and very well done! I don't mind your music choices, and I saw The Beatles perform in 1964 when I was 11😂 Regards from Canada 🇨🇦
Well thank ya and I love that time reference lol
Very clever piece of fabrication BJ looking forward to the finished product
Thank ya!
Nice bit of fabrication there. Good video.
Thank ya!
Good one BJ, your new table looks like it's working nicely!
Loving it!
This channel is aweome. Love this build.
Glad you have enjoyed it so far!
Fabrication is the best part of any build.... What can be done that is different??? Nice clean work!!!
The fab work , awesome. Side note the music is great.
🤘🤘
Great stuff! Love your ingenuity with the custom works. Although those brackets were physically small, they make a big impact. Glad you're fully committed to this project and I'm looking forward to seeing more episodes!
Thanks Michael. Definitely wanting to see this one through
Love the work, the info and the music. Super chill vibe
Glad you enjoyed!
You’re a talented builder, I have great respect for your skill. I think your 70’s porno movie music works well!
Haha thank ya and glad you enjoyed!
Master Class ~ Master Class ~ Master Class ~ Master Class. BJ, I have the "very clean" 1998 Suzuki 1200 Bandit on my trailer, tucked in on my driveway. Again and again I ponder the 22 mile speedometer. I look and I look, I think 22K is about right for actual mileage. But who knows? It is for sale. My buyer may arrive for a half price deposit on Saturday. Then he has to pick it up with the remainder in 10 days or I keep the deposit and the bike. So there it is, maybe he'll try to lowball me more whatever. Not gonna happen. I just need to get my Nighthawk on the road. I have a plate for that. Just slap the plate on and take her out. Definitely the name is "West Virginia." Then the Bandit. Hmmm So tempting just to keep that and kite the cost. OK Ok Ok ~ That's my report. Now for your Master Class! Thank you for sharing all that you do! Steve from New Hampshire.
Oh man! I love this song on 13:07! Nice video again! Much love from Brazil!
Glad you enjoyed!
Hi BJ nice fab work looks neat and tidy ,the music never bothers me I quite like it as you never have it too loud to not hear what you are saying , the bike is going to look great when all finished with the new changes you are doing to it take care and have a great week ahead 👍👌🏍️🏍️🔧🔧🔧❤️🏁🏁
Much appreciated 🤘
as an alternative to silicon spray, dielectric grease is also a great lubricant and preserver of rubber
Yeah this was closest in hand lol
Is this still the misses bike, or has it been so long that shes forgotten about it 😂 love the music, love the workmanship, you've inspired me to get back into my xj project thanks bj!
Well, thats a different story all together at this point. Glad you enjoyed though
Rectifiers are finned to dissipate heat, that’s why they are usually found in front of the engine. Placing it there will make it prone to failing.
That location may be true on some Harleys but most all Japanese bikes have them mounted behind within a box. This is also a modern mosfet unit that runs cooler. No worry of failure in this extremely open area.
Great video. Really enjoyed it.
Thanks dude!
best bike and alternate car content provider on YT..i just like the low key style..informative wout a clown show..great video/editing....and spring is right around the proverbial corner..cannot wait!
Well thank you!
Reg/rec units usually earth through the aluminium finned casting, the LH end cannot be the earth as the mount is a touch locator so the RH end will be the earth point. A rivnut will usually be an aluminium part fixed to the frame bracket, so the earth path from the reg/rec will be aluminium casting, to steel bolt, to aluminium rivnut to steel bracket on the chassis. There will thus be a lot of opportunity for galvanic corrosion. Can I suggest you weld a captive nut on the back of the chassis bracket to limit the galvanic corrosion to the steel bolt to the aluminium finned casting.
These units don't ground through the case. I wouldn't be using an aluminum nutsert just due to strength. It would be a steel one if I did but the most likely option is to weld a nut on so I can retain a flat surface
Great fab work BJ. Attention to detail. Music was also groovy.
Thanks Don!
Great so Far
🤘🤘
Sweet BHB!
Nice work, dude! Again.💯👍
Thank ya
Best Missouri TH-cam channel in my opinion!
🤘🤘
Nice fab video. Love fab stuff. And in metric.. Love it💪
Glad you enjoyed!
An engineering company I worked for before I retired had a machine that would be great for some of the things you make. It was a CNC water jet profile cutter. Do your drawing on the computer screen and let the machine cut out the part for you as well as doing any bolt holes etc. You have such a creative mind, so this type of equipment would probably make your life a lot easier.
Well I see the benefit but in the time it takes to draw it on a computer and send it off to be made I can have it done already
Looks great
Thank ya
The position of the ignition lock in the near of the kickstarter is interesting. Greetings from germany.
Yup, I always have them on the right or on the bars. Don't worry the Kickstart is not close to it
Love the videos. I now want to buy a old bike, and make it look new in a old way.
Do it! I'll be a bad influence!
Clean!
Thank ya!
Awesome
🤘🤘
Good stuff, dude 🤘🏻
🤘🤘
Very nice, thorough tutorial BJ!
Nice fab work. I like the music fwiw.
🤘🤘
Very best :) 👍
Awesome stuff. Can't wait to see the battery one. On my cafe build i went with a very small lithium battery under the seat because my project came with that tiny battery. Now I find out they don't make that tiny one any longer. So I might need to utilize the area you've mentioned for a outta site location since bigger batteries won't fit the space I built my seat pan around
You may check out the 5 series from earthx. They are tiny and powerful and high quality
Love your work BJ but im concerned about the location.
Will this be ok riding through deep flood water 💧 🤔
Shouldn't electrical stuff be under the tank or seat.
We get a LOT of rain in Ireland and are used to riding through floods.
Not riding through floods or rain. We get dry days here in the US
Also I'm 50 and the music doesn't bother me.
The only time I protest is if the music is under commentary, but then the music volume is too loud to hear the commentary. I hate when creators do that. Lol.
Thats fair and definitely a skill I've learned. The difficulty I had was how it sounded on my computer speakers compared to how others may watch it. Hard to judge. I do my QC by watching on my tv
lovely to watch your skills...inspirational. do you think you might experiment with Cerakote in the future? just thought of that when you mentioned painting the brackets.
I used some cerakote on a previous build and likes it a lot.
❤
😎👍😎
🤘🤘
Did you think about using an old socket over that welded nut as the counter stabilization?
No as the tool steel is much harder to cut/modify and the piece of tubing was an easy solution
This Boomer loves the music.
Right on!
Idk why people dislike music in a video, Esp when it's during a montage or something... weird.
It definitely happens a lot.
Can you tell me which exact electrical system you bought? That website is awkward. I’m just trying to get a more reliable system for my XS400. Thanks.
I actually have a full electronic breakdown in a previous video of this bike that will be helpful. As mentioned in this video though it is an X21 Plus P.
@@BrickHouseBuilds thanks. I have a squirrel attention span so I must have missed it. 😂
Are the NWT electronics no longer available in Europe?? I was just about to place my order for my x21 and now it says no longer available in your region :( Do you have any info on this?
That I don't know. Normally you would select your region on their website. They would be the ones to ask
@@BrickHouseBuilds Thanks for your reply, I have received feedback from the manufacturer they have been extremely helpful. For anyone finding this comment NWT it’s no longer selling in Europe due to various restrictions and tariffs.
🖕🏻 the haters. Your videos are excellent BJ, don’t change a damn thing 🫵🏻👊🏻
No avocado toast, WHAT will they do
Imma starve!
Me do like but I don´t like where you put the key....too close to the kick
It isn't close when you use the kickstarter. Definitely made sure of that
Perfect repair, exactly how i would have done it..................🛵
🙏🙏
