It’s very heart warming to learn that a US Navy ship is named after a historically significant fortress in my country - the Philippines - during the WWII where both Americans and Filipinos fought and endured side by side.

but then sadly, many WWII veterans were not given their dues from the US government until they were but just a few of them left... many died of old age waiting for what was due to them for their sacrifices in time of war as they fought side by side for freedom from tyranny from the Japanese...

@SteveNegley FJB I'm talking of Filipino WWII vets... sure your people are well taken care of... but OUR Filipino vets were mostly denied their just compensation until most of them have died... they too died for MY country... think before you start flapping yours...

@@josemelendez8549 Well for one thing, it's now illegal to come within 500 yards of any active Navy ship. That should help prevent future Cole incidents, at least in theory.
And we note they have not happened again.
I was not in the navy but have studied some of the hazards of military and other ships.
It sounds like we agree that fire is the top risk for ships of all kinds. Obviously I agree that a military ship has more hazards than a civilian one. Nonetheless they're both relatively safe in peacetime.

I ran a Special Request Chit to go for a helo ride on a WESTPAC deployment in 1999. I didn't get the training, but I was briefed: "If we go down, hold onto something for reference. Get out, and inflate your vest once clear of the helo." That was on an SH-60B Seahawk, while the engines were on and rotors were turning! It was an awesome 20-minute flight and I got amazing photos that day.

I feel proud for this ship, because i was born and raised in the province of BATAAN. And whenever i'm home, i always find time to go and give respect to the soldiers who gave the ultimate sacrifice , to defend my province and my country, by visiting MT. SAMAT NATIONAL SHRINE, in the town of PILAR ( my hometown ).

What's wrong with that? That's how life is. If she's doing a good job and is a pleasant personality, why complain?

She called a ship a boat. There is no submarine here. The Submarines are called a boat. She is on a target not silent service which is what I served on run silent run deep.
