The new IN A DAY series will feature the amazing American workforce and what they can accomplish in one day. In our first episode we land on a Navy Aircraft Carrier in the middle of the ocean and follow these sailors and aviators for 24hrs.

I served in the Navy, was stationed and deployed on a LHA the USS Belleau Wood, it was used to film the Denzel Washington movie Antoine Fisher. I know firsthand what a living hell life onboard can be on a regular day and when any type of filming occurs it is intensified by 10. Anyone who is on camera is meticulously groomed beforehand. Brand new uniform, shiny shoes, new ball cap stylist for the hair and makeup. Extra personnel who could possibly end up in the shot also have to be looking their best. Any spaces that are going to be used have to be thoroughly cleaned. This is all done by low ranking personnel and it's a big inconvenience

US Marine here. I wasn't ever on a Carrier, but I was on a few LHD's. Let me tell you, the sailors work their butt off and I ALWAYS was cool with them! It's their world! You get in cool with the right ones and no issue getting midrats or a satellite phone call home or a trip up to the Air Traffic Control Deck for night flights! Good times!
main one when I was stationed on the Nimitz, we shared the head with the Marine NCOs, their quarters was right above ours. For a sailor that was sweet, never had to clean the head, the NCOs were great, had them down for an Xmas party on the ship. It was really cool when we had beer on the ship. It was fun having Marine buddies on the ship.
Never had a problem with my shipmate Marines as a squid. OORAH!
I served in the Navy from 73-81, with and without marines. Us and Marines had a special relationship that other sevices dont understand...

As an HT on the San Ant, our Marines broke nearly everything, clogged countless toilets with shit like bed sheets and shit filled underwear, etc.
And they stole all our midrats so those of us who were coming on of getting off of watch rarely got to eat.
And y'all pretty much hijacked our gym. That's where we drew the line and "secured" it due to "repairs".

BTW why do they wear those badass facemasks? In my country military code does not allow such casual wear on duty. A) For looks, not looking uniform B) not to scare civilians (yeah navy doesn't see lot civs, still that is o excuse).
@@SergeyPRKL since they're on the flight deck, they wear them to help keep their face from getting wind burn! As well as it can be very dangerous to breathe in the fumes of the fuel they use!

I can't even imagine how annoyed that F-18 pilot was, I would have been irritated. Scott is a great dude, he's always been really humble and down to earth it seems. It's insane how much he looks like his dad, I have to do a double take sometimes.

I was on a carrier in 1994 when they were first allowing women to serve on board. It was hard work but AWESOME because I had always wanted to serve on a carrier. But when I enlisted (out of high school) women weren't on carriers yet. Now I watch this video and see women everywhere on that boat. "Outstanding!!"

I worked on the Enterprise as a civilian for a temp service. Went exploring when my work was done. Got lost as hell.
Make friends w/the Philippinos/Filipinos. There is a thing called the Filipino Underground. They have alot of ppl in the Galley. They are some of the coolest nicest people, especially on a ship. Plus they are always happy and happiness is contagious. I was a Marine and spent 11 months deployed with the Navy on LHD6. Thats how I know about the Filipino Underground

I was a Sonar Technician in the Navy for most of my 20-year career, so most of my shipboard experience was on smaller ships, a Frigate (94-96), a Cruiser (97-01), and a Destroyer (06-10). However, I was temporarily assigned (TAD) to the Destroyer Squadron staff for six weeks in the summer of 2007 as an advisor in the Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) module aboard the USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75). The first two days aboard were really cool as I had only ever had a tour of an Aircraft Carrier before that. The commodore arranged for us to observe flight ops from the island my second day and that was pretty cool. It was also pretty cool to be able to cross the hangar deck on my way to the ASW module, which was on the O-3 level, just under the flight deck. The magic wore off pretty quick, though, because since I was TAD for such a short time, I couldn't do any qualifications there. Even though I was assigned to 12-hour watches in the ASW module, most of the work I was assigned to do during that time frame could be completed in just a few minutes. I tried to create work for myself, but the work I created for myself only added a few hours a week and I could get it all done in a day.
I did get a lot of recreational reading done in my free time. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was scheduled to come out at the same time we were scheduled to be in a liberty port in Florida. So I brought the first six books and reread all of them in just a couple of weeks and then I spent every day in the library, but since I was only TAD, I had to read the books in the library and couldn't check them out. There was a book exchange, but they only had CNO and MCPON reading list books and I had already read all of those.
After the first two days, it was the most boring six weeks of my Navy career. The liberty port in Florida was pretty crazy the first night, but I'm a nerd and Harry Potter came out the next day. I got a hotel room and after I slept off the first night's fun, I got a bottle of wine, ordered a pizza, did laundry, and read the Deathly Hallows in one sitting. 😂Not all my port visits were that lame.

@@marcuspurciller just say no to CVN duty. The best place to learn your rate is aboard DDGs and SURTASS ships. Shore wise, IUSS and instructor duty will be the best place to stay sharp. Don't let your oceanography or ACINT skills slide. No matter what else you do, those two things are a STG's bread and butter.
Robert Dietrich what about ATT stuff, how much will I really use the electronics troubleshooting and stuff
@@marcuspurciller You're going to use those skills on a regular basis, in my experience. Things aren't going to break all the time, but stuff happens and goes beyond what a 0000 can do. So, it's important to keep those skills sharp as well. Of course, it's easier to keep your electronics skills sharp than it is to keep ocean-o and acoustic analysis sharp. Sometimes, you may even find yourself going to another ship to help troubleshoot their equipment. And of course, if you like electronics, but you find out that the Navy isn't for you, what you know will be in demand with companies like Ratheon, Hewlett Packard, Boeing, etc. when you're getting ready to get out.
If you haven't already, there's a Facebook group for people who are past, present, and near future STGs and STS. You can get in there and ask people who are on active duty right now what life is like. Things haven't changed too much since I got out, but you'll still want the perspective of people currently serving.

This was a superb video. My thanks to Scott Eastwood and the entire film crew for giving us a look at life onboard the Nimitz. I'm retired Air Force so I know a little about the Navy but this was an education. I know that this film made everything look like roses and that there are many hardships and trials that go on everyday among everyone in the military, especially these folks on a super carrier like the Nimitz. Scott and crew gave us the best look at what it's all about and I congratulate everyone involved.
From the Made ahere crew who had the privilege and honor of spending time on this incredible ship with our superlative sailors, thank you. Certainly, the sailors endure no shortage of hardships in serving the country. From what we observed, they do it with absolute aplomb, dedication and utmost professionalism. For the Made Here crew, it was a truly life changing experience. So glad you appreciated the video.
Nicely done. Served onboard Nimitz with Fighter Squadron 41 the Black Aces from 78 to 82 . In fall of 79 deployed for a Mediterranean cruise that didn't end until the end of May of 80. We got caught up in the Irainan Hostage Crisis and ended up doing 144 days straight at sea. Was not a fun time for any of us. The thing I remember most about that time was the Phase "I Like Ike" because it was the USS Eisenhower that came to relieve us from Gonzo Station. The other popular phrase was "Ayatollah the Assaholar"! Go Navy.

Made in Newport News Va.....on the James River....the James being the river Capt. John Smith sailed into and set up Jamestown....., Jamestown a stone throw from Williamsburg, home of William and Mary. The James River is also home to where the first two Ironclad ships went head to head, the Moniter and the Merrimack.

I served on the USS Ranger CV-61 on her last ride. 1991-1993. It was my former life and I was in for 10 years US Navy, 2 years Coast Guard. V-3 department. It was one of the best things I could have ever done when I was 20 years old. Sure they were long days but so worth it. You end up missing it, I remember when the USS MIDWAY was decommissioned and is now in San Diego as a tourist destination, the next year our ship was also decommissioned.

Just FYI, the green shirts are worn by a wide range of sailors, comprising of multiple different jobs. A notable example would be the Maintainers, who belong to the squadron the aircraft are part of, and work on and fix the birds themselves. They board the ship with the birds at the start of the deployment, and leave with them when it's finished. They're built up into a DEMOT crew, comprising of ADs, AEs, AMs, AOs, and ATs. They work on the engines, the electrical generators/wiring, the airframe of the bird itself, arming and disarming of ordnance, and shipboard electronics such as IFF and radar, respectively. However, it should be noted that AOs (Ordies) wear red shirts

I remember the Marine contingent having to serve as security on Steak Night...you cut in line you got your ass busted by them, then chewed out by your CO then no steak for a month!!! (CVN-69 94-97!)

I SAW first hand the sacrifice, because I LIVED it secondarily. FEW make it a career, to retirement. But the ones that do....are the cream of the crop. Because in many MOS's (specialties)....they already ARE to make the cut, DO that job.

Wow. When I was a kid I spent a few nights on the USS Yorktown in Charleston. Definitely one of the coolest experiences of my life. This video just reminded me of all that, and just showed how amazing everyone on that ship is. Great work. Hopefully in a few years I can be taking off and landing on one of those

Your'e in for a treat when you realize that this video is bullshit. Life sucks underway, and they make this video look like a baby walk. The food sucks. Ice cream socials, lobster and steak are usually given when shit is about to hit the fan, or when your deployment is extended. Life is good for officers, but enlisted life sucks

Actually, even simpler than that. The military will literally pay your way through school to become an officer in return for service.
