Super7 makes cool figures and I totally get the connection, I just simply don’t have it. For me it’s the NECA figures that really pulled me in. I always wanted figures that look like the show and movies. As long as I’ve collected, there was always a group that collected more vintage and one that collected modern, I’ve always been more of a modern fan.
I’m into the Neca line as they are the cartoon accurate versions I always wanted as a child. That being said, Super7 does hit the right notes and I am seriously tempted to get at least the Turtles and Splinter, but shelf space is limited and Neca takes up most of it.
I prefer the Super 7 figures more as well. I bought one of the Turtles in Time figures from NECA expecting to go all-in on that line, but after having it in hand I was pretty thoroughly disappointed with it. It wasn't really a bad figure per say but it didn't impress me in the slightest, and I had no attachment to it whatsoever. A week or two later, I ordered two of the Super7 figures, Raphael and Donatello. I got them in one morning, messed around with them for a bit, and within that day I'd already been out to a few shops in my area to get ahold of Leonardo and Michelangelo. The Super7 line wound up being exactly what I wanted out of collector-grade TMNT figures, and I can't wait to pick up more of their lineup.
All 5 waves are available on bbts (not all are in stock, but the pre orders aren’t sold out)I kept passing on these cause I thought I’d never be able to get all of them. I’m about to spend so much money on this line!
I love them both equally for different reasons, if I HAD to pick one it would be Super 7, because I was obsessed with the original Playmates toys as a kid, and always got them for birthdays and Christmas from my mom, so they're super nostalgic for me. If Super 7 just worked on quality control just a tiny bit (i.e. made the joints a little tighter/stronger) I would buy every single one.
I definitely prefer the show and movie accurate styles, but Super7's quality is so much higher and they absolutely kill it on the accessories and their decisions on what to upgrade and tweak on these and what they keep the same. I find myself showing my boyfriend all the differences and improvements and weird quirks nobody understands why Playmates incorporated in those original figures, and I doubt he cares, but he listens, lol
Awesome video! TMNT had been and still is a huge part of my life. Growing up in the 80's my parents were both unemployed and Ihad a ruff childhood. They couldn't afford to buy me much. Then one birthday and my parents surprised me with an OG Leonardo figure! Now as an adult collector; I relieve that moment everytime when I purchase and open a new TMNT figure. These Super 7 figures bring back a lot a good memories!
Like both the Neca/Super7 Turtles. Really wish Super 7 could find a way into mass retail to lower the productions costs of their current smaller run of Ultimates figures. Maybe an Amazon/Target exclusive run followed by a preorder similar to Neca’s current model. Neca’s plastic maybe cheaper and require a hair dryer, but the sculpts, accessories, and value are amazing in comparison to Super 7’s TMNTs .
I have a five year old daughter that I showed the original cartoon series to. She immediately loved it and we ended up watching most of the original cartoon series. Now im neck deep in turtle toys from super 7 and neca haha. I really really love the neca figures because they look cartoon accurate but the super 7 ones are amazing because of the fact that they look so much like the toys I had as a kid. Either of the toy lines are going to be great in any collection! Great video
I love Neca but super7 figures do it better for me. Having them all in hand now is unreal, bigger better articulated versions of figures I grew up playing with daily. 🔥🔥 Since the last turtle came I’ve only been posing and taking shots of the super7 figures. I love my Neca figures too but they just don’t live up to the super7 line nostalgia .. the cartoon stuff is a little goofy. The super7 figures have that heavy mirage comics feel and it just doesn’t get any better than that for me!
I had the original Michaelangelo when I was a kid, so I couldn't resist the Ultimates version. He's on his way from BBTS. Shame shipping is so slow these days! Turtlemania didn't impact me in a big way. I watched the movies, had that one figure, and that's about it. I'm most familiar with the brand from the TMNT roleplaying game rulebook, which had some Eastman/Laird comic pages included. Same thing with other franchises like Robotech. My older brother was into RPGs, and I liked to spend hours poring over the illustrations in all of his books. Shadowrun, Rifts, all that good stuff.
This is the exact way I felt about these. When I initially saw the photos I was like, "okay, that's pretty cool, but do I need these..." I got the Raph and was just okay with him. But then when I got the Bebop in hand, I was like, "now I get this." I went back and ordered Baxter, Splinter, Shredder, etc. I like how they update and fix the scale issues (with everyone except Leatherhead for some reason). Great line. Excited to see Slash and Triceraton.
I was born 85 an miss the toys from back then.im married an have family of my own an I love going toy hunting with my kids an seeing them start a collection of there own
Could probably agree that both companies did an aweasome job with the tmnt line! I don’t own Any but will probably go with super7 since they obviously showing plans to make a continuous run with this line ( unlike hot toys who makes 2 figure and hogs the license) and like others have stated that target exclusive b.s kills it for me with neca. But collectors like the thrill of the chase so I can understand that. Would have loved to collect the game figures though.
All the things you said, from the white out eyes and toy being most iconic is why I'm more super7 figures over neca. I been just getting neca just to have em at this rate. Lol I honestly wish they got the real ghostbusters license and did this with those, give use kenner style, but updated with the cartoons colors and swappable kenner and cartoon accurate heads and gear. Even a cartoon accurate ecto 1, what I hate is them being slow asf releasing these things.
I just cant find the neca figure s to begin with and with the QC issues neca has I finally had to put my foot down about it. No more Necas until they increase durability and start getting more figures out or at least have them all up for preorder. I was able to get my super 7 preorders in just yesterday for waves 3 and 4 but the fact remains they are still available! Except wave 1. Looking forward to getting maybe a technodome from super7 lol!! I would pay my whole paycheck for a six inch scale technodome.
Neca for the movie figures but bad distribution and awful aftermarket inflation leaves Super7 Ultimates for the rest easy. Those classic toy designs were really something, almost like a lost continuity that only ever existed in our heads. It's great to be able to see the foot soldier and shredder standing tall. Really hope they do krangs body down the road, a long with dirt bag, ground chuck, and chrome dome
Both these lines are amazing and aim at different types of nostalgia for me. I’m with NECA on this one but literally just because I was introduced to that line first and I’m pretty lucky to not have a super collector itch. I’m fully on board with NECA until they finish the line and then I’ll move on to some other thing.
I feel like I'm a bit alone here. I had tons of those old playmates figures as a kid and I loved them dearly. But in the back of my mind, I sometimes wished that the figures looked more like the way the characters actually looked in the show. Several characters like General Traag, Leatherhead and Ray Filet to name a few, were disappointments for me, as they looked nothing like the characters they were supposed to represent. Playmates' sculpts got better as well as more accurate as the line went on, as figures of characters like Groundchuck and Dirtbag and the Neutrinos will attest. Still, as awesome as the Super7 line is, NECA is the more exciting line for me personally. I'm finally getting the show accurate figures I always wanted. Not only that but I'm getting characters that Playmates never produced figures for, such as Lieutenant Granitor, Commander Zarax and Zork. Plus other non playmates characters are most certainly on the way. I might very well cherry pick a few Super7 TMNT figures here and there as they are pretty darn cool, but as I said, I'm afraid I'm all in for the NECA cartoon line.
Totally get it! I think each kid had a different connection to the toys and I absolutely see the appeal of what NECA is doing with the cartoon line. The fact that their getting into so many characters is fantastic and great for TMNT fans. I don’t think you’re alone, because the line is doing very well!
I prefer the Neca,s because I’m my eyes and probably nobody else notices is they aren’t just accurate they aren’t just modern they are special one of a kind that is a toy sculpt that probably can’t get better neca might be the pinnacle for the turtles I grew up loving I love the ultimates I really do they’re amazing figures and I seriously feel the nostalgia but I just love the Neca,s more
I 💯 agree! As long as I’ve collected, there’s always been a divide between people that collect vintage, and people that collect modern figures. IMO, these are more for the vintage collector. I personally loved the old figures as well, but have no desire to go all in on a line of remakes. I will cherry pick though! The turtles, Casey, and Shredder are ones I had to have.
I loved the toys, Archie comics and first two movies as a kid but quickly grew bored of the original cartoon so I have no nostalgia for those designs. So I much prefer the Super7 stuff. Especially as the four Turtles have unique new heads which I prefer over the vintage toy ones.
I wish NECA was producing the original toy line figures. The Four Horsemen's sculpts are amazing, but S7's quality and paint are not worth the price tag they slap on these. NECA > S7 all day every day.
I'm not a videogamer (though I was in the early 90s, but that's another story, they were a whole different kind of games). Children today probably don't know what it means to desire an action figure for months, and finally hold it in the hands, enjoy its colors, physically play with it, feeling its awesome feedback and staging your own "battles"... No videogame on Earth could ever replace such an experience. As an adult, today, I still collect them but I have to admit I'd like to have the same fantasy I had in my childhood (I don't play with my figures, I just admire them): who knows, maybe one day I'll have a son and we'll play together 🙂
Super 7 makes great products but the prices points are ridiculous. 50 dollars a figure win you have to buy at least 4 Turtles for example is a bit steep.
This video is so relevant and holds so much truth especially with the Super7 war today and what people think. I don't like the toon Neca at all. Every point you stated is exactly how i feel. 👏
Totally agree! I collect both lines, and NECA does a great job with the cartoon figures, but I always liked the toy designs more as a kid. I'd been waiting for a long time for a modern spin on the old Playmates line, and Super7 totally nailed it! I haven't been this excited for a toy line in a long time! That said, NECA's movie figures are damn near flawless. To me, their movie line is definitely stronger than their cartoon line, and doesn't rely as much on re-used parts. Overall, I'd say both NECA and Super7 are killing it in their own specialized ways!
My general issue with NECA is their awful distribution and quality control. It was a fight for me to get Krang. Super7 though, they brought me back one of my favorites sooner: Mutagen Man
I want these because I also love the original toys, but space issues in my house and the $50 price tage kept me away. I'm sticking with the NECA version, begrudgingly.
The price is definitely a barrier to entry on the line, but at least you don’t have to hunt all over town, nor pay scalper prices. Just a simple pre-order (even though it’s about a year till you get them)
100% agree. Those Playmates figures were so special. I loved their various expressions and skin colors. My nostalgia comes from the fact that I physically interacted with them while engaging my imagination. NECA is doing a great job, but Super 7 has me hooked!
As a kid I always wondered why the figs didn't look like the cartoon!? So for me rather go with Neca! I also think with Neca you get more Bang for the price!!
sorry to disappoint, there are other videos that do the side by side comparison, I was trying to explain my journey of never going all in on a collectibles turtle line, until I got the first wave of Super7 TMNT Ultimates :)
@@agentghost3234 To me yes, and for the record I LOVE NECA's movie turtle line, but the toon lines paint issues plus qc issues make the extra cost of the super7 plus the fact that their based on the toys that I love, worth it to me, but I don't begrudge people that prefer NECA they do great stuff.
I was a die hard neca tmnt fan, but super 7 takes the cake for quality, standibility and the material neca uses drives Mr crazy. They are like a cheap clay rubber that I do nothing but struggle....they break, struggle to stand and come with too many accessories that I have no use for. I live both but super 7 works for me.
I'm all in on all three NECA TMNT lines. The super7 ones are cool, but the price point for a single figure is a bit too much and my wallet is strained enough from the other 3 lines or I -might- have gone for them. The only real downside to NECA is that SO many people want them that scalpers have gone above and beyond to scoop them and even create bots to snag them online within seconds and then try to flip for double and triple the retail price. Super7 has the better model, but if you miss out, it's not coming around again either. As much as I hate not being able to get some sets (mainly toon/movie) for months on end, they're too amazing to give up on and both neca and target have been getting better with their online postings.
Yeah the stress of acquiring the NECA ones def helped to take me out of it (but again I’m still picking up movie ones) but I totally get it for those that prefer NECA to Super7
Do you feel in the longer run NECA or Super 7 will hold the greater value though, with being a limited run ? The only way I'm going to work around the wife starting a toy collection will be to tell her they won't depreciate. :D
@@JessopVTS Hard to say honestly. It's true that once the pre-orders close then that's it as far as getting the figure/s, but there's no limit as far as I know as to how much a business or single person can order in regard tot he amount of product so there's likely going to be a lot of them floating around out there, especially those that bought doubles and triples specifically to mark up and sell on ebay and other sites. Most fans who want/ed them will get them in the short term. The same can't be said for the NECA lines due to the exclusivity deals with Target and Walmart.
I think you hit it on the head here. I love the NECA line more because of the bright colors and sculpts. I think they just make me happy from an aesthetics POV, but that cartoon was pretty bad. I am not nostalgic for it like I am the movie. These figs are perfect. Now, if we could only get super 7 to tackle real ghostbusters...(I realize that’s a Hasbro problem)
Something must have happened with the TMNT license to finally let people outside playmates make stuff more regularly. I’m 1 million percent with you, I’d love for them to do a ultimates RGB line.
Totally agree! I followed the same journey with the Arcade and the Toon Turtles. Super7 hits the feel of the brothers for me. The only NECA ones I own still are the 1990 versions. Never selling that collection!
What you love about the Super7 toys, with them being so similar but better than the old Playmates toys, is the reason I stay away from them. I grew up with the old Playmates toys, and still have all of mine from back then. It's why I've gone with the Neca toys. They are cartoon/movie acurate, which is something I wanted for forever, where the Super7 ones are just Playmates only made better.
NECA look like cheap clay painted plastic and cheap feeling. There's NO reason why a $50.00+ figure should have pins in the arms and legs NECA! SUPER 7 ALL THE WAY BABY!💯👍
I really don’t dig the look of the Super7 turtles. At least I don’t have to stalk Target until next year. Maybe by then Neca will figure out they should focus their resources on turtles and forget about the Godzillas and Predators that clog the shelves
How much is the fact that the NECA stuff is so hard to get influence your decision. I like them both, but would pick Super7 over NECA based on some of your points also. The Four Horsemen do an amazing job also.
The toon stuff hasn't been too hard to find at target, you have to check regularly though. By wave 2 of the Super7 Turtles, the horseman's sculpts are miles and above what the toon turtles are, but I prefer the toy style to the toon style, so I think its up to your individual preference.
I have most of the Neca figures and after getting only 2 Super7 figures I really wish Super7 had the toon license etc. Super7's joints are so much more crisp and they use appropriately colored plastic instead of painting over everything with chalky flaky paint
Yeah the pain they use on the toon license is so frustrating, even if there is one that I actually want, its damn near impossible to find a near perfect example without paint issues.
I wonder since Playmates did do toon versions of that would allow Super 7 to eventually make toon versions too? Also same with the movie line. Maybe deep into the line that option would open up.
I prefer the cartoon accurate Neca figs. I didn't grow up with the old figs (my toy chest was full of the '03 series figs) but these still look pretty cool!
They’re in the MOTUC scale, so they’re shorter than the he man from motuc, if you see the clip of the vintage he man and Raph with the Classics and Ultimate version the height difference is the same. But it is a larger scale than legends or the NECA toon turtles.
When I think of TMNT I think of the Playmates action figures. The cartoon was pretty awful. The Super7 figures appeal to me much more than NECA. Thr NECA figures are pretty boring and do absolutely nothing for me.
I love both but my absolute favorite part of Super7? Accessibility. I mean, I see a figure I want I can buy it. I absolutely hate the trash way of buying retail figures these days. F Target to the 10th degree. I always hate issues with the fragility of NECA figures as no line has broke more than their offerings. I am happy with most their TMNT when I can get them but I hate how hard they are to find. If they can’t get them to me any other way than ebay then I’ll give them up soon. And the whole experience has made me no long want any other NECA product other than TMNT. I’m soured on them for sure.
I’m giving super7 a chance. I tried neca. Just not for me, especially visually. Yes they look like the cartoon but the shading bothers me. Nothing wrong with Neca just not for me.
the reason i don't like super 7 style is that they are indeed just updated forms of the original toys. neck are from the movie and cartoon. but if i want the original style toy style i will just buy the vintage toys.
Amen, brother.
Yeah that. NECA rocks.
I agree. The NECA makes the tmnt the way I would had wanted my turtles to look from the cartoon growing up in the 80/90s. I love the look of them.
Neca material is cheaply made
@@wesleybrister955 they have had issues here and there, but you can’t say that statement for ALL NECA.
I’m into the Neca line as they are the cartoon accurate versions I always wanted as a child. That being said, Super7 does hit the right notes and I am seriously tempted to get at least the Turtles and Splinter, but shelf space is limited and Neca takes up most of it.
Totally get it, shelf space is the hardest thing to contend with, tough choices to be made, and thats why I went with Super7, Neca is great though!

I mix and match. I like them all. That mutagen man, metalhead, shredder, and April from super 7 really do it for me

Love your review! I completely agree with your take about the original playmates toys being the definitive look, it's just what we grew up with.
Like both the Neca/Super7 Turtles. Really wish Super 7 could find a way into mass retail to lower the productions costs of their current smaller run of Ultimates figures. Yes, NECA is far better than Super 7 .
I would love to come across these in store but they're all sold out except for those frog 2 packs.
What's the difference between the ultimates and reaction figures?
Reaction are the cheap smaller figures replicating a really vintage action figure style

That said, NECA's movie figures are damn near flawless. To me, their movie line is definitely stronger than their cartoon line, and doesn't rely as much on re-used parts. Overall, I'd say both NECA and Super7 are killing it in their own specialized ways!
Yeah I LOVE the movie line as well, but these super7 figs are hitting me in the best way possible!
@@GeekDadLife Same! The movie figures are great, but this Super7 line is easily my favorite toy line right now, TMNT or otherwise.
My general issue with NECA is their awful distribution and quality control. It was a fight for me to get Krang.
Super7 though, they brought me back one of my favorites sooner: Mutagen Man
I feel the same way I’m getting this now and sale my cartoon neca since I feel more my childhood it’s here super 7
That Raph head looks amazing!!
I do really dig it!
I also think with Neca you get more Bang for the price!!
damn, i was hoping he would compare NECA vs Super 7 version.. but all he skipped it
sorry to disappoint, there are other videos that do the side by side comparison, I was trying to explain my journey of never going all in on a collectibles turtle line, until I got the first wave of Super7 TMNT Ultimates :)
@@GeekDadLife do you think it is worth it to pay double the NECA price for the Super 7 turtle as far as sculpt/articulation is concerned?
@@agentghost3234 To me yes, and for the record I LOVE NECA's movie turtle line, but the toon lines paint issues plus qc issues make the extra cost of the super7 plus the fact that their based on the toys that I love, worth it to me, but I don't begrudge people that prefer NECA they do great stuff.
These figures do defo capture the original figures sculpts and brings big nostalgia but £50 for each is waaayyy too much
I was a die hard neca tmnt fan, but super 7 takes the cake for quality, standibility and the material neca uses drives Mr crazy. They are like a cheap clay rubber that I do nothing but struggle....they break, struggle to stand and come with too many accessories that I have no use for. I live both but super 7 works for me.
Couldn't agree more. Super7 killed it with this line
They really did!
Super7 Ultimate REAL Ghostbusters!!!
I used to Love Love Love these Super7 Tmnt figs, I really wish they didnt switch manufacturers because the quality has dropped severely
"that cartoon was pretty bad" eh, to each their own I suppose... Personally I find it great, and it's never truly been topped.
Totally agree! I followed the same journey with the Arcade and the Toon Turtles. Super7 hits the feel of the brothers for me. The only NECA ones I own still are the 1990 versions. Never selling that collection!
100% sames
and scalpers destroy it all for us collectors.. Im not paying 160 dollars a fucken figure
I hope Super 7 does the movie star turtles in this line. Those were MY turtles as a kid.
Super7 turtles are SO MUCH easier to get my hands on, without feeling like I got ripped off.
U got dat roger rabit
What you love about the Super7 toys, with them being so similar but better than the old Playmates toys, is the reason I stay away from them. I grew up with the old Playmates toys, and still have all of mine from back then. It's why I've gone with the Neca toys. They are cartoon/movie acurate, which is something I wanted for forever, where the Super7 ones are just Playmates only made better.
That totally makes sense, and I get why that's your approach!
The articulation seems really lacking for the price point.
I just get both then I dont have to worry bout shit like this
Lol that works too!
Someone needs to make more comic tmnt figures
Amen, and good ones at that!
Playmates got awesome design's! Compare the two Muck Man's. SUPER 7 all the way.
I asked this very question on the last live stream lol. Guess I have my answer.
😉
I prefer the cartoon accurate Neca figs. I didn't grow up with the old figs (my toy chest was full of the '03 series figs) but these still look pretty cool!
Man, I desperately wanted to collect this wave but I collect 6in figs. And seeing Raphael tower over Spider-Man in youtube reviews was off putting.
Yeah NECA's frequent breaking really takes away from their amazing sculpts. Wish that could get better.
If these were widely available and half the price I would be all over them.
It’s a smaller run, thus the higher price, but I totally get it, the reach of this line is far smaller than anything at retail exclusive or not.
I’m more of the neca guy. There sculpts to me are more of the cartoon and movie versions
I’m giving super7 a chance. I tried neca. Just not for me, especially visually. Yes they look like the cartoon but the shading bothers me. Nothing wrong with Neca just not for me.
Similar feelings for me, and I promise the Super7's wont disappoint!
@@GeekDadLife I had a Leo arrive yesterday. Can’t wait. If it goes how I think it will I’ll be ordering Shredder later today.
6” movie style...I don’t think so
Wow yes the cartoon was the failure to look like the toys which is why the figures look super rad ...eat that neca these look sick
No way. NECA is far superior than those Super 7. Bad choice. And I hate how the weapons come, like a cheap child figure.
I think they're both great, but for me the Super7 Turtles hit the nostalgia buttons better.
Neca sucks. Every neca figure I bought eventually broke on me. Terrible quality if you ask me.
I despise NECA and their artificial scarcity price gouging
the reason i don't like super 7 style is that they are indeed just updated forms of the original toys.
neck are from the movie and cartoon.
but if i want the original style toy style i will just buy the vintage toys.
Neca didn’t get me to open my wallet... but Super7 found my weakness. I say I’m only going to get the four turtles. I say that 😜
