When it came to giving voice to the social and political state of black America---for forty-something years, Kenny Gamble & Leon Huff kept their fingers on the pulse of black America. Motown Records and Philadelphia International Records were equally essential to the voice of black America being heard on a global stage. Their music was all about bringing people together.

I got to see the O'Jays about 15 years ago In Atlantic City, NJ, as part of a soul music revue that was filmed for the Public Broadcasting System. All the acts were amazing, especially Teddy Pendergrass. It was the best night of live music I've ever experienced.
