man, my dad would just annoy me and shake his head, without even noticing the jokes; your dad doesn't need to move with the times, he just lets them sweep him along. Great guy, and an awesome show
OMG - no matter how much I know its coming, the rabbit scenes just kill me.
That ending song is one of the most inappropriate ending themes i've ever heared considering the main characters are in between 11-14 at first i thought it was the English dub replacing it as a joke but sadly the songs on the original Japanese version to... Words fail me

@@itsashun77993 years ago but I have to say it just in case. Light is not the antagonist he’s more of an anti hero falling more and more into the deep end.
The antagonist works against the main character whether they are morally good, bad, neutral, and etc. So L would be the antagonist.

Since no one has mentioned it; they didn't write a comedy script. There was no script. Each actor wanted to be first in the recording booth for each episode as everyone else had to follow however they set up the episode. Everything is adlib. The only things they were required to keep were the names, how the ghosts were defeated, and core plot elements. Otherwise there is no script.
Sorry, Zephyr, but that's urban legend. The first episode was scripted pre-studio, every episode after that, I made up in the studio as we recorded. So you can kinda say it was adlibbed, but I'm a writer so really it's just writing really really fast. Some of the actors contributed a handful of lines here and there and that's why I gave them co-writing credit. Added bonus: the show wouldn't get autoslammed because I did it. Because there were some animeholes that would just kneejerk dis anything with my name on it. I thought if some of the haters' favorite actors had a hand in it, they wouldn't just dismiss it out of hand and, I was right. Not that it mattered. 13 years later, all the haters had to watch as millions of TH-camrs went crazy for the show basically making them look like idiots.

@@Zephyr616 Yeah, well, shooting straight: I don't care what anyone says or if you believe me. One of the, okay maybe 35 lines total, that a handful of the actors came up with is the very last line in the series. It's Rob Mungle as the cat, saying as the screen fades to black:
"I'd like to thank Ste7en Foster for writing such a gay friendly but mainstream script that..."
So there you have a 16 year ago recording of an actor actually adlibbing how the show wasn't adlibbed, I wrote it.
And I am NOT dissing the actors. They were fucking brilliant. But Z, they're actors, they're not writers. And I don't think for a second any of them are trying to bogart credit. It's real easy to get caught up in the moment and imbellish a little. We all do it. It's not evil or malicious, it's just storytelling.
I kinda like it. It's just another one of the many mythologies about the show. That the stupid thing even HAS a mythology is a testament to how deeply people feel about this insane experiment. Hell, I celebrate that.
And truly, reading all the nice things you guys say about the show, quoting lines, is the best feeling in the world. Brass tacks, I was just doing my job. YOU GUYS turned it into this hip, in-side, buzzy Big Deal it's become.
Bottom line, GS is beyond the actors, it's beyond my writing and directing now. It's Art. And art is everyone's. Sometimes it doesn't even feel like it's mine. Besides, artists only hold their work for a short time. They hand it over to everybody else, so they can appreciate it (or not) for all time.

@@STE7ENFOSTER Okay, fair enough, I'm more inclined to believe you. And I do apologize for having my doubts, but you have to understand that the internet is full of people who claim to be people they are not, and generally if an account isn't verified then I'll have my doubts.
But okay, everything I thought I knew was wrong, I admit it. You did a fantastic job on this dub, I've shown it to pretty much every woman I've ever dated since 2010 and it's a great dub to watch while blazing. It's honestly my most rewatched anime. Peak comedy, so bravo sir, bravo.
Yeah you're right, people do embellish, and often times those embellishments get taken as fact, and I fell victim to that. I guess it goes back to my first paragraph; don't believe everything you see online, look at me not taking my own advice lmfao
I think it's because of how unique this dub was and the circumstances around it's creation. It's like an Abridged series before Abridged was even a thing. It's like the opposite end of extremes to a 4kids dub, especially when 4kids One Piece was in it's prime around this dubs time, and it's fascinating that such a thing could even officially exist. I don't think any studio would be able to get away with that nowadays though, no matter how terribly the anime did in Japan.
You may have just been doing your job, but if it wasn't for you and everyone involved we wouldn't have been able to enjoy this absolute gem, but it could've just as easily fell flat; anime fans can be fickle creatures when it comes to translations. So it's definitely a marvel to behold that the weebs fell in love with it. But yeah, I also agree without the fans it wouldn't be the cult classic it is now.
Of for sure, the actors did a great job, you did a great job with the writing, though I'd love to know what the script approval system was like? I mean from what I've read all the Japanese company requested was the names stay the same, the ghosts stay the same and how they were defeated stayed the same, otherwise "anything goes" but did you ever have to go back and change stuff? Was some stuff ever deemed "too much"?
But yes, it is very much a work of Art. An absolute masterpiece. It needs to be included in the next media they send out into deep space. Imagine if an alien races first impression of Earthlings was GS? xD
