    Outstanding video report, superb photos. The Golden Wreck is NOT cooperating with the salvage crew. It’s not going to be easy to remove this carcass to the scrapyard. She was built to withstand Pacific cyclones & Atlantic typhoons with tens of thousands tons of cargo. King Neptune is protecting his kingdom! Carry on!

    Ballast tank is absolutely right. Makes sense the Captain was trying to stabilized the ship as it listed. My gosh, that's a lot of steel inside that hull. I hope nobody thought this would be easy!

    I thought part of the problem that lead to this was the choice by the captain to NOT add blast eater till he was off shore thus the capsize???

    Interesting how close to the cut the drain hole is. The ballast tank must end just before the cut.

    Looking back at the videos the first section cutting started 6th November now nearly end of February and still not completed cut three. Four months and cost mounting!! xx

    Typical seawater is 8.6 lbs/gal. "Typical" because not all seawater is the same...salinity, and therefore density, varies by geography.

    i wonder why the salvage co chose to cut the ship up instead of using the par buckle to put the ship back on its keel and refloat it

    • @markbass7145
      @markbass7145 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I am guessing because all the cargo shifted to one side so it would probably want to just capsize again.

      I have seen the words par buckle but don’t know the meaning. Was par buckle the engineering term and method used for the Costa Concordia cruise ship? The conditions of this dilemma were and still are 1. Shallow waters, 2. Site is Blocking the shipping channel, 3. Cargo of 4,200 vehicles, some of which might have shifted further to port after it capsized . It was mentioned last year that the ro-or ships are generally top-heavy. I’m thinking someone will write a book about this incident. If a book does get written it ought be like a text book to describe and risks and how to mitigate to avoid capsizing.

    • @jaredhayes940
      @jaredhayes940 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@shermananderson700 it’s not blocking the ship channel. The pilot and Captain intentionally did their best to get it out of the channel. There is plenty of ship traffic . Pretty sure 2020 was a record year for the port.

      Dollar bills is why it wasn't parbuckled. It could of been done. Right now the bill is over 750 million. I wonder how much parbuckling would of cost

    When we first saw the ship in person, I knew it was going to be a huge task. If left alone it would take decades for it to rust into pieces. As it is, it's going to take a lot of effort to cut it up and haul it out.

    From the official article 7 days ago: “Any unauthorized usage of drones (unmanned aerial vehicles) around the wreck site is prohibited. Responders will report any sightings of drones and drone operators to local authorities.”
    From the official article today: “Any unauthorized usage of drones (unmanned aerial vehicles, UAVs) around the wreck site and near response facilities is discouraged due to safety. UAVs are distractions that can lead to near misses, mishaps and injuries. Responders will report any sightings of drones and drone operators to local authorities.”
    From “prohibited” to “discouraged” & now includes more than just the actual wreck site. I’m guessing they can’t sweet talk anyone to get the port area actually banned from drones.😁
