    We will be there in early September, for the first time. Staying at the North Rim Lodge. Also visiting Zion and Bryce.

    Ahh,, Edward Abbey, a hero of mine. I have everything he's published, I admired his stand on pollution (of all kinds). Love the North Rim, hiked and camped there many times. An oldtimer Englishman from Shropshire who has great memories to hold onto.

    Living not far away in Vegas afforded me the opportunity to visit the North Rim twice a year, spring when the parks opens the gates and fall just prior to park closure and usually after a dusting of light snow.
    The meadows, forest and the canyon all make this location beyond words. The real pleasure is being here with no crowds as in the South Rim and the higher elevations with a plethora of wildlife often seen along the roadways, trails and open meadows.
    The North Rim is a true life changing experience.

    Went to the North Rim several years ago. There are no words that can describe the awesome beauty of the place. We went in October so the crowds were even less than in the summer. It is a place that should be on everyone's bucket list -- it will forever be in their heart of hearts. I hope to get back there someday.

    Incredible recreation. From Jacob Lake to the rim and down to Phantom Ranch. The Arizona Trail, Demotte, the hiker/biker campsites right on the rim are a life saver. What an incredible place.

    Was there two weeks ago. What an awesome place! No one can prepare you for it -- it must be seen firsthand. It was always on my bucket list. Would like to go back some day.

    Having flown over the Grand Canyon hundreds of times with my father in his airplane, I could never imagine that it could be as beautiful from the rim. Although I have never been to the North Rim, I look forward to seeing it in person soon. Been to the South Rim numerous times and it is simply spectacular! Great accommodations, the train ride from Williams was fun. If there was a down side, I would have to say, the shear amount of visitors. Never saw anyone being disrespectful but there are lines for everything. The National Park Service staff are simply amazing! Knowledgeable of the area and very helpful in every way. Look forward to seeing it all again soon!

    Just stunning... Next year or the year after, we're hoping to do the full circuit around Zion, Bryce, Petrified Forest, and both rims of the Grand Canyon. I can barely wait!

    • @potatothorn
      @potatothorn 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      ive done that and then some, Monument Valley is a bit extra driving but sort of on that circuit/ we liked it/ SUGGEST- if you are going North then South Rim, if possible enter from East Entrance and go west, and even if you enter South Rim from Williams - go to the Watchtower at the East End first. That way you work towards Mather Point in the center last, building up to larger and larger views instead of the reverse (one could also begin at Hermit's Rest and work east for a similar experience)

      potatothorn Thanks for the advice! The plan was to take the Grand Canyon Railway up from Williams... My wife and I have both been to the canyon before (separately, in the days before we were married) so it's already made it's first impressions on us :)

      Try to enter Zion from the east. The Zion - Mount Carmel highway is one of the most scenic drives in the US.

    I just chanced upon this video & how you explained is exactly how I felt . For a moment I stopped & replayed this video, word after word. you were just speaking out of my heart. What could be a bigger coincidence, I visited the Grand Canyon (West Rim ) for the first time on the same day as the day this video is uploaded. It's an unparallel , experience, the only place I feel like visiting again & again.

    Is north run free to visit during the day??

      @jpb252 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The North Rim has the same entrance fee as the South Rim. If you're planning on camping or staying at the lodge, reservations are a must. You can also camp in the Kaibab National Forest outside the park.

    I remember looking from the N rim to S rim on my first trip to the N rim...after I set up camp it was around sunset time.....and as it got dark blinking red lights south of the rim stood out...it was nearly disturbing....until I thought of the lights purpose...they were supposedly for wind turbines.......so they have a purpose....so now I think of it as Xmas lights...which I really like....& the good the lights serve...as people go to the GC more and more & move closer also.
    Hope I get to do rim to rim again soon. ....it’s a very powerful experience. ...even for experienced leg trekkers....I advise to do at least one trip to the river & back before trying....and note the weather and everything about what it takes.....you may run into a blown out trail and have to do clifffing...like I did on my first N to S rim excursion....or who knows what else.

      If you want a campsite in the Park, you need to get it 6 months in advance. I got a site just outside the Park 4 months in advance and that campground was half full already by then.
