Excellent video Coach! I'm just starting to sew leotards for my 4yo granddaughter. I definitely feel more confident now! I will be sewing on a Baby Lock Ovation and I know how great this bias binders are!! Thank you!
A 4 way stretch for both. For the binding, if it's a thinner fabric it might get wavy, but usually when it's put on the waves will go away because it stretches. :)
I would start with small projects like pillow cases, tote bags and maybe altering your clothes. That's how I started. I would have a tee shirt and want to add lace to the collar or made a skirt a little shorter.
Hi, great video I want to make leotards on my own first just for fun. But I am searching for a good pattern with diffrent sizes I am looking everywhere but can't find one do you have some advice?
The elastic is shorter than the leg opening, how much shorter do you cut the elastic for the leg opening? I do my neck the same way you do your legs, but are never sure how much shorter the elastic should be around the neck. Can you give me some ideas how much shorter I need to cut the elastics? I brought leotard patterns and the fit is go, but I’m not getting the elastic right, I end up with it to tight or to loose. Thank you for the great video. I love it
@coach_christa I brought my patterns size 3 to 14 I think, about seven yrs ago through the Internet, and I can’t find them on the Internet any more. Three of them were the same brand and two others were a different brand, but I can’t find any of them. Maybe they’re not available anymore. The shape is great it’s just I don’t know what length to cut the elastic to because I lost the hard drive in my computer when it went to get a new RAM in it. I thought it was all backed up to the cloud, but thats gone too. I seem to get the elastic, too tight or too loose in the legs and Neck. I mostly use Pattern sizes 8 to 12. Do you know anywhere I could find this information without having to buy all new patterns. Thank you for your time.
The patterns I have go by like small medium large so I'm not sure what your sizing would be compared to mine. If it's adult sizing then for my adult small I do 18" adult medium is 19" and large is 20". You might just have to measure a swim bottom you like and use that measurement. For leotards, usually there's not a real comfortable measurement. Leotards are just uncomfortable. So it's better to be a little tighter than looser because being looser causes more issues where as being tighter gymnasts just need to get use to it. (Obviously it's not supposed to be too tight.) Hope that helps@@MyLordNelson1
You mean to an already finished leotard? You could do it a couple ways.. 1. Cut at the waistline and add a strip of fabric. (I call this a belt bc it looks like a belt) You can even do mesh. 2.Cut at the waistline and create a whole new bottom or create a whole new top I will add that to my list of videos to make that's a good question.
I recently made a leotard using a regular machine and wasn’t te best option😮. Today I went to a shop and they told me to get a Janome coverstitch 3000 + binder. What would your advice be? Greetings from The Netherlands
That's so cool my video is being watched in the Netherlands! ...Using a home sewing machine can sometimes make your leotard look "home made" and it can also be a little more difficult to make. If you are looking into getting a machine, more expensive doesn't always mean better. That machine is $1700. At that price (if you had room) you can get an industrial coverstitch for almost that much. I use the brother amzn.to/3OSz98Y and I just duck tape the binding attachment lol. But it works. I also use amzn.to/3DUrxfu for my serger but this one amzn.to/45oxiOf looks good too. I've had them for a while and they really get the job done. Even if I had the money to buy the Janome I'm not sure I would. It's nice that the amazon ones don't charge for shipping but also make sure to check around your area to see if anyone is offering it cheaper or free shipping :)
If you expand the description I have listed where you can get all your supplies. Yes you can watch th-cam.com/video/vl-aeZCIPfQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=bgizQMWTiJPmZ78a to learn how to do the binding without the attachment.
That depends on how you plan on getting your pattern. If you get one of mine there is a size chart. There are free patterns online that probably have a size chart. If you are using an old leotard to make your own pattern from then you would use that brands size chart. Normally measurements come from chest, waist, hips and girth(torso).
Oh! Good question because I realized I never linked it. It's a binding attachment you can search "Flat Seamer Folder Binding Attachment Tape for Industrial Sewing Machine (1-3/8"-1/2")" or use my amazon link amzn.to/3xL9RTS

This video is amazing. So well done with lots of tips. Thank you for sharing
Yay this makes me so happy! You are very welcome!
Great tutorial! Where can I get custom tags like the one you used?
Etsy! Just search silicone tags
Hi! What kind of fabric should I be using for the leotard and the binding??
A 4 way stretch for both. For the binding, if it's a thinner fabric it might get wavy, but usually when it's put on the waves will go away because it stretches. :)
Hi any tips for getting started with a sewing machine and beginner sewing exercises?
I would start with small projects like pillow cases, tote bags and maybe altering your clothes. That's how I started. I would have a tee shirt and want to add lace to the collar or made a skirt a little shorter.

Yes the one I made is in the description, www.etsy.com/listing/1502107268/leotard-sewing-pattern-tank-leotard
Love your videos and techniques. Are you willing to share where you get your fabric from?
Thank you! Actually I get my fabric from Joann (unfortunately that's the best we have near me) and Etsy!
Do you make your own binding?
Good question! Yes I do

I struggled with this at first too. It depends what size. Did you buy my patterns or from somewhere else?

any tips on how to make a smaller leotard a tad bigger? cut the bottom and attach more fabric? do you have a video on this?

Where did you get all this stuff from and can you use a normal sewing machine without a binder?
If you expand the description I have listed where you can get all your supplies. Yes you can watch th-cam.com/video/vl-aeZCIPfQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=bgizQMWTiJPmZ78a to learn how to do the binding without the attachment.
Hello! I wanted to know where do you buy the fabric. Thank you!!
Joann, Etsy and sometimes I just google
How do you measure for size?
That depends on how you plan on getting your pattern. If you get one of mine there is a size chart. There are free patterns online that probably have a size chart. If you are using an old leotard to make your own pattern from then you would use that brands size chart. Normally measurements come from chest, waist, hips and girth(torso).
Hi, who made your personalized tags. I’m looking for a custom tag company to make my tags?
Wunderlabel!
What is the tool you used in the end?
Oh! Good question because I realized I never linked it. It's a binding attachment you can search "Flat Seamer Folder Binding Attachment Tape for Industrial Sewing Machine (1-3/8"-1/2")" or use my amazon link amzn.to/3xL9RTS
What type of fabric
4 way stretch. In the video I am using a 4 way stretch double brushed fabric from Joann.
I want this binder, but I want elastic going throughout binding!
Yea! I think you're talking about the machine that like feeds elastic and sews it on at the same time!? That would be such a time saver!
I love this video and everything is so clearly shown, but the gusset I cannot figure out for the life of me… I’m so confused!!
Give me a couple hours and I will make a video explaining better :)
Here is the video th-cam.com/video/GmLFmL4BRTc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=IStfTptkwg392g6C hope it helps!
Hi, does this leotard model ,with the fabric you used, needs a top or bra under it?
Because this type of fabric is very light weight I would recommend a sports bra under it. :)
Thank you for sharing 😊
You are so welcome! :)
you are the best
🥰
Wow thank you!
Do you sell leotards please let me know how much?
You're welcome! Yes :) at clashleotards.com
