Wow another blast from the past for me. After living in Vegas for 44 years I bailed out in April of 2020 and moved 90 miles away to Kingman. I've been homesick ever since then. So many memories for me on Boulder Highway. My last house was off of Tropicana Ave down by the old UNLV stadium and surrounded by the Wetlands Park ( you really need to check out the park. It's an amazing oasis in the desert). Mom and I used to love going to the Skyline for the $1.99 breakfast before she passed in 2018. They had great food there if you didn't mind walking through the most smoke filled casino in Vegas. It has such a wonderful old school Vegas vibe as does the Longhorn. If we could ever be in Vegas at the same time I'd love to take you around to the places that were special to me over the years. I think there would be some great content for some videos. Thanks for another fantastic video from my favorite city!

Well years ago when Vegas was a rest in between business trips for me I usually checked into the Budget Suites opposite Sam's Town. I had most of what I needed over there. In the sports book watching NFL games and betting on a horse race now and then. My McDonald's coffee and Egg McMuffin. That atrium show was a bit corny but still fun. You should check it out. Trivia friends used to come over to the sports bar that was there and they had a caged basketball court. Used to shoot hoops with a buddy that became a Las Vegas cop. I can tell you there were working girls around. Hey compared to some crap going on in cities around the US today prostitution would seem down right civil. Oh the good ole days. 🤣

Many, MANY moons ago, my dad and I owned a few trucks, however at the time of this story we only owned 1.
Friends in Lucern Valley, CA “hired” us to go up on Boulder Hwy and haul a torn down drive in theater, to be rebuilt and opened in Lucern Valley.
4 days of trucking, a hotel room for one or two nights, finally got it all hauled to Lucern, never got paid! The steel is probably still sitting in the desert where I unloaded it. That was 1986. Morale of the story? Don’t work for friends IF it’s for $. Thanks WH for bringing back so many memories.

Are you talking about the Skyway Drive In? It was the only one that I'm aware of on Boulder Hwy. It was just past Desert Inn @Boulder. The owner lived in Salt Lake but his daughter was married and lived/lives here. Roxanne Havers was my neighbor growing up. Unfortunately for you, most of that area has buildings . There is still some desert but just east of there is a homeless camp, so I would imagine what was left behind is long gone. It's funny, but when I was little, driving to the drive in seemedva like a long, long ways a way. Too bad you didn't get paid but you did have your hands on some historic property and for anyone who was born here in the 50's and 60's it was a grand place that everyone loved.

@@TERoss-jk9ny , You know, I checked and it was my neighbor's Dad who owned it. Ah, the Skyway drive in. How crazy is that , that we would both be here in WH's Boulder Hwy video and both be taken down memory lane? It's a small world. ( One more crazy memory hit me, I was an only child with a protective mom. When we did head out to the Skyway, she would put me in the backseat of her pepto-bismol colored 2 door Chevy. I remember it to be about the size of a football field. No one heard of seat belts or car seats back then. Anyway, we would head to the Blue Angel drive in where young girls would skate to the cars, and we would order a hamburger before heading out to the Skyway. It was a real treat. My mom passed away in 1995 and I hadn't remembered this until now. ) Thanks for a great trip.

I love Sams town, stayed there in January. The rooms are quiet, free parking, and the movie theater only charges $6. The casino is ok, since covid a lot of the hotels have not recovered. I play craps and they still have $10 tables. I used to stay downtown but everything is more expensive then it was a few years ago, plus all the hotel room are really noisy, parking is bad, and the gaming is just not fun. I would say give Sams or Place Station a try.

She shot her intro 3 blocks from where I grew up! Dizzy Wright wrote a good jam about the Eastside and Boulder Highway. I stayed at the top of the Eastside Cannery just to look over my old hood like a villain, Years ago, it was the Nevada Palace, which was a popular locals spot (and no-tell hotel). I miss the Sportsman's restaurant. It was one of the last bastions of the 99-cent breakfast.

I miss the Eastside Cannery! I preferred to stay there whenever I was in town versus the one on Craig Rd., because it was much nicer, and had a much better restaurant.
Both Cannerys were sold to Binion's(?), and they promptly sold off this one.
Last time I stayed there, they gave me a room on the same corner as the balcony on that bar, and probably right below it - and yes, the view was amazing!
The story about Formyle & Roxy's reminds me of a story tgat Chuck Yeager told on his website, about his days in Tonopah, and misadventures in Mina...
That dorm does look like an old barracks.

The cab drivers still do that in Vegas, it’s the strip clubs paying them to deliver people now… if tourists are drunk enough, the drivers will just drop them off without the tourists even asking to go there because they’re close to the strip usually and the clubs will pay them more than the fare would have been anyways.

Well done! I’ve only been to Vegas twice. Both times we stayed at RV parks on Boulder Highway. Never knew all this, fascinating what you can find in history when you dig deep enough.

I have a world-class view of the world-class view from the Eastside Cannery. I guess that's close enough. Always wondered about 4 Mile, so thanks for that.

I immediately thought of Sam's when you said the old strip. My step father was a amateur turned pro bowler. I've stayed there and bowled many times. It seemed to have a much more local feel and was much more friendly. Thanks for bringing back those memories.

Don't think Sam's had a bowling alley, your step father probably bowled at the Showboat (gone now but was at the corner of Boulder Hiway and Charleston) Their bowling alley often had big televised bowling tournaments.

@RJ Kent Sams Town had/has(?) excellent bowling lanes!!
One time I was bowling up there with my boyfriend & a bunch of his friends, the security cane up & asked for all of our i.d's
I was 19 yes old, 1st time this had ever happened. All of them were 21 +22
We had to leave, had just gotten late, curfew was enforced.
It sucked, was embarrassing & I seriously considered a fake i.d cause of it 🤣
NOT for beers but for bowling lol

There is nothing better then going to a sketchy town going to sketchy bar and meeting a sketchy woman and taking her to a sketchy motel and have sketchy fun🤠

Hello. Thank you for pointing out Boulder Highway and some of the "nuisances" it has to offer. I think you huh ave only scratched the surface when it comes to interesting content regarding BH. Please consider doing a part 2. Your viewers would be grateful.
