As soon as I saw your post I wished I was back there, one of my favourite places on Earth.
Stayed at this hotel a while ago and loved it. The view from the rooms is magical, almost surreal. A photographer's dream and the light/colours/shadows change every minute with the movement of the sun. The red sandstone is beautiful in the fading light.
Sunset and sunrise tours recommended (weather permitting) as you get to see bits of the park that are off limits to cars. Journey can be bumpy in parts but well worth the ride. The hotel itself is tastefully decorated and the rooms are ideal and very clean, the whole place has a peacefulness about it.
The food in the hotel is not the best but adequate and the staff are friendly.
The gift shop is full of beautiful Navajo jewelry, not cheap but very well made. I agree this is not really somewhere for children, nothing for them to do unless they are blown away by scenery!
As the name of the hotel implies, you come here for "The View" and it does not disappoint.
Thank you both for your post -and the memory!!

I could never stay somewhere that has "The View" in it's name.

Awesome location and views, friendly people, great gift shop.....The restaurant food is expensive overpriced garbage, though. Stock up on peanut butter and bread before arriving.

We actually grabbed a Subway sandwich near a gas station and ate it on our balcony! That was great! 😊

What if we brought a bottle of wine to enjoy on our balcony? Is that allowed?

We think you would need to fly into either Phoenix, AZ or Salt Lake City, Utah which are the closest major airports. Then rent a car to drive to Monument Valley.
