Hello everyone! This is the first episode of a new series of videos where I discuss certain monsters in a lot of depth! I hope you enjoy it! I'm also open to criticism, since this is the first episode and I want to improve the series for the future! Enjoy! There is a DLC quest in MH4U where you are tasked to kill 10 Desert Seltas, and the obvious way to do it fast is to engage the Desert Seltas Queen who will shoot one at you, then dig another one out of the ground, rince, wash and repeat.
@@HeavyWings If I remember right, it was one Congalala and one Emerald Congalala, both ridiculously small, but holding with their tail a Mario Super Mushroom each and, upon eating it, would grow (with the Super Mario visual and sound effects) gigantic. MH World had similar creative events like the FF14 collaboration and its Kulu Ya Ku growing gigantic thanks to the FF14 crystal, the Witcher event or the Resident Evil event and its Zombie statut. That's why I hate microtransactions in Rise Sunbreak: cool and original layered weapons/armors were locked away behind paywalls while they should have been rewards of cool events (like the lost code weapons being rewarded by a Valstrax with the color scheme /sound effects of said lost code weapons, the monster could pass for a robot as it is already) and actual events/rewards were as a result lackluster. I really hope the main team will not follow the slippery slope of MHRS with MHWilds and we will go back to cool events with cool rewards.
Using another boss as a one time attack that instantly obliterates it is the most insane attacks I’ve ever seen in a game. Seltas is such a brutal species
@@asandwich7162 Yeah, if she was one, she might be Tech, the type she uses initially, in which you can use the stories exclusive tranq traps, but when a Seltas is on her back, you can use a flash bomb to knock the Seltas off
The first episode in this new series is my favourite monster of the entire series! Love all seltas, so much personality and badass armour Can’t wait to see more!
I’m quite a fan of this! Always wanted someone to do a deep dive series on the individual monsters and I figured it would be you at some point. Seems like what you were kind of going for with the earlier evolution videos but more focused on the monster itself in general.
Whole idea behind the Evolution series was that I wanted to do weekly uploads, so they were quite simple. I'm at the point where I'm not doing weeklies anymore but that means I can put more time into videos, so I think this should work out quite nicely.
Going into the details of how monsters are designed and which devs were involved is really cool! I've often wondered which specific people are responsible for the monsters I like most, so this series is really neat-looking in that regard. My favorite aspect of the evolution series was just taking in the design of the monster being talked about, and this is definitely scratches that itch.
They are some of the Monsters that I am most fond of, both for the fight and for the Armor and Weapons (and let's face it the weapons are cool and good with a good type of Element plus defense) that I owe more to a more than perfect pair of Monsters
Seltas Queen is my third favorite monster in the series for all the reasons you stated in this video. I may like two other monsters more from a combat perspective, or taking into account their other aspects like gear, but Seltas Queen actually has my favorite visual design in the series. The armor is one of my favorites, especially as an impact phial Charge Blade main, though it's kinda weird that the Seltas Charge Blade is an element phial Charge Blade, so it doesn't work with the armor's artillery skill. Really hope we see this pair again, they're super cool.
Yeah I first looked into it after some idiots got mad about MH localization on twitter, found a lot of interesting info. Remember it's all in the video description!
God, I hope Seltas + Queen makes a return in Wilds. The first time I fought them both was such a cool spectacle that they never really left my mind and I was ever in awe at the potential for similarly designed fights.
Really good video and great new series! Especially starting with the Seltases (?), since they are interesting but sadly forgotten monsters. Some ideas that I had to make this dynamic duo more interesting, would be to have the queen, if she is at low life, gobble down a killed Seltas basically instantly. This frees up space for the next and shows their relationship more extreme. Secondly I thought about adding new Seltases. Like maybe a Marksman Seltas that focuses on ranged attacks, a Seltas which heavily focuses flying and so one. This would leed the Queen fight to differnt, as her moveset would change depending on the fused Seltas.
I really enjoyed the video. It definitely has some similarities to the evolution videos, but with a lot more cool trivia. I’d personally love to see some of the forgotten monsters that got left behind in older generations talked about.
@@HeavyWings I wonder if you could look into the trivia of the monsters you covered in the evolution videos? I know you don’t want to look at the monsters in the evolution videos with this new series, but maybe you could make trivia videos about the evolution monsters. Similar to the trivia you have about the seltas monsters.
This is a very interesting concept, i love seeing lesser known monsters get a in-depth video. I do have a question tho, will you also make videos for monster that had a evolution video since theres seem to be some overlap between the series
Season 1 will have zero monsters I covered in Evolution. Season 2 will have two. I reckon there will be more eventually, specifically because I do want to talk about Magnamalo at some point.
Always loved these guys, both conceptually and with their flawless designs! Not only were they a fantastic introduction to Large Monster Neopterons. (Sorry Queen Vespoid.) But I do also want to praise the sound design heard in both 4U and Generations, especially for the Queen, going all in on her “tank/mecha” motif and especially when Seltas pilots her and you hear this almost robotic activation sound resonating from the two.
Wow. The video is really well put together going in every aspect of the monster in and out of the game. I believe this is going to be a reference for the future of monster hunter videos. (And The great ace attorney music is exellent here) Great Job !
Absolutely soul-reading them being in Wilds. The monster limit on maps is near non-existent seemingly, so having 2 monster slots taken up by both Seltas is hardly an issue. We also see a lot of BIG monster herds in the trailers, something you can't really imagine with many of Monster Hunter's existing monsters; but a Seltas Queen surrounded by a swarm of Seltas, now that's a perfect adaptation of an old monster into Wilds new monster hoards. Plus Wilds should have a bunch of 4th gen monsters (new titles tend to prioritize 2 gens prior for returners, such as 5th gen's 3rd gen bias) so I'm very much expecting to see them.
@HeavyWings some made sense I was definitely surprised Primordial was so high but also happy as well Yian Garuga below Vespoid Queen was also surprising But yeah was very interesting to see for sure
Seltas has a bit of a special place in my heart because I used his SnS (along with full Nerscylla armor) when I beat Gore Magala for the first time. In fact, every time I do the first Gore Magala quest in my playthroughs of 4U, I always use the Seltas SnS and the Nerscylla armor for the first hunt just to see how much I've grown as a hunter. First time beating him took nearly the whole 50 minutes and 2 carts (because I was so scared of Gore's enraged form and actively backed off until he calmed down), but now, it takes me like 10-15 minutes with no carts.
little extra thing about male Seltas's Japanese name, I believe the "aru" (well the aruseru-) in Aruserutasu comes from בַּרזֶל (barzél), as it's mentioned that the word for iron in Hebrew was used in their names. Barzel Baruseru aruseru aruserutasu also the romanization in the video turned Generu into genel, which makes it sound less like general which is what I think the generu part is from.
Probably the one (two?) monster that stood out the most for me in MH4 which is saying a lot since I only fought it like three times. It'd be interesting to see turf wars for these since they'd have funny ways to interact with itself. Like imagine two queens get in a turf war and the winner steals the other's Seltas or even eats it if it already has one.
The Queen and her minion are a really fun fight, though I've yet to fight the desert ones. Watching your video, I'm wishing for a Seltas swarm in Wilds. the 4-6 males roam around in the locale while the queen minds her own business unless you got beef with her. Her pheromones summon a random Seltas each time, maybe two, but you'll kill her before she kills them all. I also think she could use some kind of power up whe, killing a male (or when all the males are dead), though I have no Idea what it would be.
I want to see them in Wilds, given the advertised focus on interactions. Maybe have the Seltas 'plug' into other areas such as the tail for stronger tail attacks.
The interactions with traps when they are combined are awesome. I would love to see there 2 in Wilds and their subspecies getting a redemption arc in the expansion, Desert seltas does not deserve to be the most forgotten monster, neither does steel uragaan to be honest. There are a lot of more forgettable monsters. I hope that, if they do return, desert seltas queen's cannon attack will have a wider or secondary hit box for not just the impact fo the desert seltas being fired but also the shrapnel of his body that would give it a blast radius. That would fit the cannon motif more. Lol then the portable team took that title of dread queen and gave it to rathian.
Only so much time can be invested into rigging/animating new monster skeletons. A lot of work is put into just that alone. MH Generations Ultimate had almost 10 years of developed skeletons at their disposal. it's why they had so much variety in the roster, that could easily be ported over. World basically ended up having to scrap all those classic monster skeletons and work from scratch to develop brand new skeletons, as they finally had to use a completely different engine. There's a reason why Capcom tried to get Lagiacrus in World, but ended up having to cut him out. As his skeleton rig was buggy. They take a lot of work. Most likely same reason for Seltas Queen. But I honestly feel that it was enough work for the team with just the limited set of skeletons that base World had as it is. But seeing as how Wilds has Balahara (a leviathan type skeleton) they've clearly had time to get the bugginess ironed out and now there's potential for Lagiacrus again. So maybe they might look at Seltas Queen as a possible next skeleton to work on. But looking at the amphibian monster, Chatacabra from Wilds, I see a lot of Setlas Queen in that body frame/animations. So who knows.
Not sure why people don't like her... Maybe most people that played from Gen 4 have already stopped playing and the Seltas line was seemingly forgotten. Seltas line has such cool mechanics
The monster's choice poll is so affected by World's new players it make the list kind of ridiculous when you think about how low some of the most important monsters in the series are. You mean to tell me that Yian Garuga, the first monster made by the portable team, the monster that introduced the concept of monsters carrying health over quests and breaks outside of Fatalis, that grew larger and larger every quest, and that become to be known as one of the smartest monsters in the series, got 83???
Hmm maybe. I'd have to really play through those games and get as much footage as I can since you can only face them once, but it could be a good topic!
I love Seltas queen. The normal seltas almost operates like a turret which is nice. Only problem is that she's so pathetic against any competent charge blade user as it's so easy to GP her and retaliate
My names for the combined forms are "Seltus Prime" and "Desert Seltus Prime" and as usual, the Beta design is cooler than the Alpha design, hears hoping at least the base ones come back in wilds
Well looks like the evolution Vids have now been made explaining videos which I see a good and the seltas queen and the normal seltas sounds really cool but I only have monster hunter world the one after that not iceborn I forgot the name of the one after world anyways

As a fan of both Gundam and Monster Hunter. I think I may have found a new fave monster. Here's hoping they both return in Wilds!
Seltas & Seltas Queen might be some of the best designed monsters in the series
Strong contenders for sure!
I remember Desert Queen was a huge wall for me. I was not prepared to have a whole second monster used as cannon fodder to kill me.
If Seltals Queen came back who do you think it would have a terf war with?
Sorry I'm late, I can't wait for more of this
Still wish to see em again. I think they might even get small upgrades too.
