    I have 1600 hours in Foxhole and I still remember back when I played for the first time. I was doing things that I shouldn't have been doing which could've been seen as alt behavior. I then met one guy who helped me learn and understand the basics of the game like logistics and basic combat and made myself useful very quickly. He was very patient with me and it was a very positive learning experience. When I see a new player that doesn't know what they're doing and is potentially and unknowingly harming their teammates, it's important to assume that they're just a new player and not an alt. I could've stumbled into the wrong guy when I started playing and it could've gotten me banned and made me quit the game before even playing. Those first interactions with new players are extremely important and is what makes people want to keep or stop playing the game. Great video btw!

    • @RobertLovesGames
      @RobertLovesGames  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Same! I definitely remember going into random players bases and messing around with stuff I shouldn't have.
      It's unfortunate that a new players experience is left up to chance if they meet a nice person or salty person ha.
      Wish we had like a set list of players that would be "mentors" or something that new players could see a list of in game if they are online and contact them for help or something ya know? That would be so awesome.
      Thanks for sharing your experience! And thanks for the kind words!

    Simplest solution seems to be hiring someone at siege camp who's only job is interacting with the community via dev blog, discord, and through the in-game reporting system. All those negative reviews about toxic vets and clans are 100% true, and completely deserved. The only people who are able to fix the mass reporting situation is siege camp. They NEED to be reviewing these automated suspensions, removing the suspensions that are erroneous, and then suspend EVERYONE who filed a false report for a full week.
    The only way to fix the problem at this point is to actually punish the people taking advantage of the in-game systems to grief another player(s). Taking the game away for a week for these vets will immediately have a positive effect.

    • @RobertLovesGames
      @RobertLovesGames  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      Community Manager position would be pretty cool. Yea some of these vets I agree do need a reality check that they aren't in charge.
      Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this!

    • @smt3961
      @smt3961 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Simplest solution is to update and rework tutorial. Main problem of game is that vets have no choice . Teaching new players is obligatory . You either teach them, instead tutorial, or they become time delayed bomb for your team. Why can't they just update tutorial? There is so many mechanics which have to be explained by vets ,but all them are same. How do you think, after how many new players teached by you ,you figure out , that you repeating same problematic things again and again.
      You become NPC, you become tutorial . This is not okay. Teaching for vets is another grind. Grind in game makes people toxic. Explaining basics is job of game, not vets. Expierience of new players depends on grind and time spend by other players.
      You've teached 10 people, 20 people, 40 people and etc. Some of them are just random dudes and some are your clanmates so you can track their ingame route.
      Well, you have clan with flow of new players, you teach them instead tutorial again and again, not about advanced things, just basics ,about logi and building. Most of them will understand ,that for most movements in game you need logi grind. So they leave game and never return, because you quickly open them eyes on how this game works. You wasted time on them. But some of them will accept it and stay. Those will split on casual players who will not grind at all , and no lifers , who will try to build their bases and facilities, who will supply everything, and who will do logi.
      Amount of wasted time melts your morale pretty quick.

    Honestly there should be some kind of mentoring system where regiments can volunteer to become a mentor regiment and when new players log in they get given the list of these regiments on their side, what they do and a link to the respective regiments discord. This would help get new players in touch with experienced players who are willing to teach them

    • @RobertLovesGames
      @RobertLovesGames  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I've mentioned this in couple post as well about a mentor system. There should be list some place of trusted Foxhole players that shows up in game and you can see if they are online and whisper or contact them to ask questions or get help.
      Something to connect new players faster to those willing to train them would be great. New player sometimes just ask in chat which is good but another step to it would be nice.

    • @awowadas
      @awowadas 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      This is a good idea, however there are quite a few large regiments filled with those salty vets that would sign up for this. Someone at siege camp would have to review mentorship positions to ensure they aren't going to regiments with griefing/alting history.
      Would hate for a new player to join a large regiment and get into the mindset of "I'm in a bigger regiment than you, so I can do whatever I want".

    I’ve had a fair few really bad experiences sadly with my 200+ hours so far starting back in war 108.
    The worst was the start of 109, my group claimed and found a good spot for our base.
    Then, Russian clans within the area all decided in a private discord call that one of their clans claimed that land and all proceeded to evict us without warning a week into the wipe.
    They just showed up and with broken English we managed to figure out what they wanted. Eventually we compensated if they helped us move and gave us stuff but it sadly broke the morale for most of our group and we were less than half the size as we started because no one could be arsed grinding again from the ground up.
    Apart from that, still fun. There is in game politics between clans and I’ve now joined 27th this current war with a bunch of our original group. It’s…. Interesting to say the least, looking at the clan/regiment perspective.

      Yea the SIGIL 3rd party Discord system for claiming spots in Foxhole can be a pain. Especially for new players that don't even know it exist.
      Most people ignore that 3rd party system and go by first come first serve. As I mentioned in the game if they start teamkilling or destroying you can just report them and it might get solved. Unfortunately it may not get solved that day. I've normally just skipped the headache and found a new place to build my base. Sorry that happened to you though :/
      And yea sometimes the other war in this game is with inner faction clan battles. I like that you all tried to meet halfway with them that was really nice of you!

      And "Russian clans" have to be a part of it or some random clan will come and destroy their facility saying that they had a "legitimate claim" in discord.

    I can honestly say, I played with a group of friends and we spent 5 days farming and assembling 3 trucks of artillery and ammunition, we took them to a city on the front and for those who know how artillery works, you can't use it anywhere due to the wind , distance, etc... We had information that an enemy convoy would pass carrying resources and the only area we could hit them was next to the city's respawn, we had about 30 seconds to get there, aim and fire, in this rush we ended up that we ran over a person because the city was busy, this person spent the next 4 hours following us, trying to steal our ammunition and vehicles and cursing us in the voice, after that we started to simply report anyone in their first "troll" attitude, then a few weeks ago we reported a guy who had entered our truck and after that he said in the chat that he was a newbie and didn't know how to play, FoxHole's biggest current problem is exactly that the line between a "newbie" and a "troll" is so tenuous that without dialogue it is impossible to differentiate, and this is caused exactly by the lack of a learning curve provided by the game to newcomers.

    New player - I've gotten plenty of help from vet pleyers who are happy to help with any questions I have to ask, the only negativity I've gotten or toxicity from other players is from the opposing enemy side. Which I mean, *we're at war* of course they're gonna tell me to "off myself." I don't think there is as much toxicity in the game as the reviews believe, more that it is a communication issue. I mean everytime I respawn at a bunker there's always that one vet player being super helpful telling new players what to do and how they can help.
    Right now my biggest issue with the game is the logistic delivery's, bringing a bunch of guns but no ammo for those guns. Nothing makes me realise that we've lost a frontline foothold then seeing 200+ respawn tickets but having only 42 rifles with only 20 something ammunition for those rifles.
    For any logistics players reading, if your gonna bring respawn tickets for players bring as many rifles and ammo for those players to use, we're not gonna win this war with sidearms alone😂

    • @RobertLovesGames
      @RobertLovesGames  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Welcome to Foxhole! Glad you have only gotten negativity from opposing side. That honestly rarely happens as well. Most people say GG and make cross voice chat fun.
      Vet players at bunkers telling players what to do are normally right in what you should be doing but sometimes just don't say it the right way lol.
      I do logi a lot! If I see a lot shirts (tickets) in the bunker and low guns I normally bring a lot of rifles and 7.62. In one crate you can bring a ton of 7.62. If you are on the front and see you are low make sure to make a map post with "logi list" and request rifles and ammo with the front you are on. Or type in logi chat what you need and where you are at.
      Let me know if you have any other logi questions and I'd be happy to answer them!

Then make said list always appear before they spawn in the hex, and make the list toggleable on the settings to not annoy vets. Like the TF2 tips system when you connect into a match.

I usually always got help, and people told me about their fear of alts. Many of my starting questions were whether or not I could take things, because I knew it took time and resources to make everything. Joining the game for logi may have affected the way I approached the game.

    I’m not sure what the devs have done to mitigate alting but I’ve definitely still seen it even in this most recent war. My clan’s solution was to essentially have a “guard” if we had a vehicle we really didn’t want stolen that we couldn’t put in the seaport. We had our fair share of “hey do you need help?” With low ranks wandering our facility and some would just be looking for the front or something and we’d help them but most wouldn’t reply and just run away. We’d never know if that was just some younger player scared of some random person talking to them or an alt potential scouting our base. So yeah the alt paranoia is real

      I have a slide in the video that shows somethings they have added. Like if someone throws a logi truck full of supplies into the water the supplies actually just go back in to the seaport. Where in the past they were actually lost. They have made a lot of small changes but they have helped a lot honestly.
      Yea unfortunately it's still really hard to tell ha. Having a guard is a good idea. Or at least someone with radio and checking on your base for any circles every now and then is a good idea as well.

    My worst experience which is 50/50 split in chat was half the people thinking it's "part of the game" to have other players take anything they want from your private base and if you don't have everything you own in a private stockpile instead of a private bunker base on your own island then it's your fault and everything should be free. Had my base I work for so long for on partisan island basically destroyed by friendlies who believe they could take whatever they wanted. When posted in chat 50% said this was okay while the other half backed me.
    The good thing was 2 nearby clans basically tried everything they could to help get me back to speed but I was kinda done after that and am on a long break from the game.

      I honestly think some supplies can be taken from some bunkers. My example would be having a tank on frontline and we run out of ammo. There is a close midline bunker with 100+ shots. We will go take some of those to get back to the frontline to support as fast as we can.
      I think taking resources from bunkers in backline is not something you should do though 99% of the time.

      Yeah I mean shit in public stockpile is up for grabs. Doesn’t mean it’s not shitty to move certain things like fuel or base supplies or whatever, but it’s going to happen if it’s public. That being said anybody intentionally destroying supplies should be reported.
      As a regiment we have to consider overstocking our bases and shit for pubs. That’s how the game is. We can’t except every player to make their own shit and make their own bases. And honestly without pubs we don’t really have a game. They’re the backbone of the game as the majority of players are solo casual players. So we take that into account building our shit and making things available.
      Isn’t this normal to understand? Maybe more people are selfish and shallow minded than I thought.

    Now seriously... it's the broken window theory. There's toxicity yes, but the biggest issue is not the toxicity itself but the fact that it goes unpunished, so victims either quit the game or become toxic themselves.
    It used to be that the large coalitions of players (and clans) were the actual enforcers of civility within this game, not the moderators (which were really few and some... well... you know what they say, power corrupts people). At some point they started caring more about winning the war that about keeping the game civil and free of cheaters, and this is where it led us.

    I'm new and never had this issue. I say for new players to just join a clan. There is no negatives and only positives. Join a more laid back clan that doesn't care about rank or playtime and wants to teach people. But also make sure the clan is still structured and has power and has veterans. For me I joined the 27th. They take as meny new players as they can and teach them. They also have alot of vets. They have lots of operations, and it's a huge clan. I don't have to worry about being on at sertant times unless a operation is happening. My first day in the game I was able to be in a massive tank fight with them. We had like 15 tanks in a line pushing up on the enemy. A new player would never get the chance to be in a tank or even a huge fight like that. They would just be brushed to the side. But since I was In a regiment they invited me to be in there tank. I was in all roles for all day in many different tanks. Then, I helped transfer 30 tanks from 1 clan to our clan through the sea. So in 2 days I did so much that a new solo player would never be able to do. Just join clans guys

    My major issue with Foxhole is the weird current cult of personality surrounding SecretBismarck. For those new to Foxhole, Bismarck used to be a seemingly helpful member of the community, writing up manuals to teach new players and whatnot. However, as is the case with various "vets" (people who play foxhole for too long begin to suffer from brain rot, and actually believe they've experienced war from playing a video game), this took a turn for the worse. In an attempt at misguided vigilantism, Bismarck has taken it upon himself to "uncover" building exploits/glitches/bugs for the devs to fix.
    Well, that's what he tells himself anyway. Instead of finding said exploits for the pure purpose of removing them, he instead deploys them to his regiment's advantage, in active combat zones, and to the very least of my knowledge, has done so for the last 10 wars (well except when NEP quit because of Warden Bober exploits, ironic doesn't begin to cover it). I'm a builder in Foxhole, and I'll be the first to admit it is wank. However, creating new forms of glitches (Bismarck Cores, as he has so humbly named them, gravel foundations surrounding BB, making it nigh unkillable) isn't going to improve that.

    • @RobertLovesGames
      @RobertLovesGames  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have noticed this a lot more frequently as well with Bismarck and a lot of vet players that find out exploits. They are under the impression that if they abuse them as much as they can it will help the developers remove them faster. Which I haven't really seen from Siege Camp.
      It's fine to try and figure out these exploits and find out how they work just don't use them against the other faction.

    Lock out " similar to weapon lock out 20min"
    what there should be instead of only banning we can lock out a players abiliy to do something and give them the reason example i steal someone vic like a tank they report me then i cant take or use that kind of vic i get a small side window tutorial stating the reason
    "you stole a players vic and got reported for it, every thing in this game is made by a player please understand that unless you made it ask if its ok to take. communication is key in this game."
    this can be done for new players for clear alts you still have the option of being kicked out of the game by players that banned you
    Zone message popup
    + when it comes to player made facilitys there should be area claim were as soon are you go into the zone there are popup message example messages like:
    "dont take vic or you will be shot"
    " this facility is for clan members and friends only... "
    abit like when you enter a new zone you get a notification about it. the messages will stating it will be semi locked into your screen unless your part of the clan or seen it for a while or click yes i understand on the message it will be auto translated for each language
    Highlighting when hovering over something states message
    + there should be high light marker that should state on the vic if i hover over it and its claimed by a clan it should state "private dont take" or "public free to use" each player can place it on there vic and leave a small message for other players to be aware this message gets specialy in faciliys or in private parking lots
    over all warning is key

Not going to get into details but the op got qrf'd quick. I was then accused of being an alt by a certain regiment and killed even. I chose to go find the accuser and speak to him. After I explained my hours and commitment to Warden they then said "this is our front go somewhere else". I told them I paid the same amount as you, and I'm here to help. I was agitated by this point and kind of RP'd out of it by saying "I'm a Lt. Col. Alts are no ranks or low ranks. I have better stuff to do than prove my innocence to you." And walked away. The moral of the story is nobody is safe and the fact as a "medium" rank Warden I shouldn't be accused of it but it does happen. I just so happen to not have a clan tag either. In my opinion, the best thing the dev's can do is mitigate the damage griefers can do and give players better methods of protecting their stuff from griefing.
    Removing the griefers ability to grief is often better than hunting down the griefers themselves.
    It's the main reason why we have reserve stockpiles, it's also the reason why we can lock our vehicles. It's also the main reason the facilities have the friendly fire immunity with the 5 person flag requirement to remove them.
    These are all countermeasures designed to mitigate the potential damage of griefers by limiting their ability to get away with their actions. Having more logs and information tends to help reduce the amount of paranoia we need to express.
    Currently our best "behavioral" solution that we can do is to attempt talking to the player first before jumping to conclusions. Most griefers and troll's don't respond to chat, so once they refuse to respond in both voice and text chat, then you can safely escalate as needed. But most of the time if you talk with the individual you can clear up misunderstandings and get things taken care of.
    It's much harder on an active front where resources are limited and someone just so happens to suicide the last very important asset your team had left. Like the last push 68mm gun that was holding the enemy tanks back suddenly got flipped around or pushed directly into the enemy to get captured or killed. But the unfortunate best way to avoid losing your temper with these individuals is to just bring more equipment so it doesn't matter if they lose them.
    Extra logistical work ends up being the most passive way of addressing the problem. Create such an overabundance of important equipment that neither the griefers nor the new players could expend the critical equipment faster than you bring it in.
    Though, it can be difficult to keep up when the new players coming in outnumbered the logi players providing, as you have seen from the interview with me. But it's either we suffer more, or the new player experience suffers more. I just hope more people learn logi coming in because the information helps alot for what you should do on the frontline.

    • @RobertLovesGames
      @RobertLovesGames  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree with having more abilities to remove griefers ability to grief rather than putting more responsibilities on the players.
      The devs in their defense have come a long way to adding things to the game that help us spend less time hunting down griefers.
      And this is what I do with new players is try to talk to them. I actually followed two no ranks around for 30 minutes trying to talk to them. They eventually got onto their mics and were upset that I was following them and they didn't speak English as their first language so it was hard to communicate. I found out eventually they were trying to find a mortar halftrack to take to the front to play. I helped them out and moved on. But I was nervous the whole time following them that they might be trying to sabotage something.
      Another situation I had to go off of your examples is we had a town base that was about to be taken over. A low rank that was not speaking kept spawning in and taking all the rpg anti tank shots and used them on logi trucks near the town base. Enough of us eventually saw and just took turns team killing him when he spawned until he left the hex. I reported and believe I got a in game response back that they had been banned not long after that.
      And I agree with you that make it hard for the griefer to grief you. Make the time that they use to do it so invaluable. I hear a lot of people thinking that this new facility update will bring griefers to their facilities. But I keep thinking that is a lot of work for a griefer to do to keep one or several facility buildings griefed. Does not seem worth their time. Maybe I am not seeing the full picture yet though.
      I'm an outlier in this probably but if we had to choose I would rather suffer more to stop an alt than have the new player experience suffer. The new player experience is already lacking so much that I like I already do would spend hours to help new players or help stop a griefer if it meant the new players experience would be better.
      As always thanks for your thoughts on this. Cheers!

    I started playing foxhole last war and I can check off every item you listed about new players (except the banning part). I was blamed and reported for TKing a teammember who was stuck in a building and thus asked me to shoot him. Another occasion I was accused of suspicious behaviour when I was wandering around the map trying to understand logi. On the frontlines it is quite common to be yelled at for small mistakes.
    Of course in the heat of battle people get emotional, I very much get that. But I would definitely say that the amount of salty comments to new players is quite high in Foxhole compared to other online games.
    This however didn't stop me from playing Foxhole for 100 hours already. It is an awesome game with an awesome community. But still, how good the intentions of the majority may be, I feel that a salty minority do not leave enough room for new players to make mistakes and learn. In my opinion this is partly a community issue, party a development issue (tutorials are certainly outdated).
    For now: why not mark a region as "logi training"? Vet players could hang around if they like to teach and new players can learn and still contribute to the war effort.

      Welcome to Foxhole!
      Oh no! All the bad things did happen to you! I'm glad you made it through all that and are still playing! Some players just quit unfortunately!
      I agree that "vet" players definitely push newer players away a lot more in Foxhole with how aggressive they are.
      I would love something like that! There are regi/clans that dedicate time to teaching new players which is awesome.
      I mentioned this in another comment but I would love to see a list of like "mentors" in game where it was a list of trusted players and you can see when they are online and message them for questions or something like that.
      This is a good testimony for new players to hear. So thank you for sharing this!

    As someone who has been in a large clan for a long time, I can say that big clans arent as bad as ppl make them out to be. There has been only 1 time the clan leader told ppl to mass report, and that was when we saw someone lose 2 tanks to the enemy solo he didnt say anything when asked and his only stats were vehicles stolen.

    The new player mass reporting problem ties into the Alt cheating problem. If a person makes an Alternate account and uses it to hand over a whole bunch of materials from a collie supply depot to the warden side whats to stop them from claiming "Oh im r nub, I make mistake."

    When we first returned to a game recently with friend (Cpl's), while was figuring what to do and wondering around in process, inspecting surroundings for ourselves, we instantly was suspected as alts. Our luck was: suspecting guys discussing that in hex chat, and me who can communicate on ENG despite we both RU; so i managed to notice it in time and kindly convince guys that we are just noobs yet.
    And for us its not something exceptional, we understand why this happened and took it really easy, but sad fact majority of new players may be offended, or just being blindly reported as they dont clue about chat or can't communicate on ENG or at least same native as suspecting guys.

    If the "vets" would take the time to be considerate every time they call for a voteban for somebody who offends them, they would have to come to the conclusion that there is no actual grounds for letting out their frustration on said person, in most cases... so they don't take the time.
    A member of my regi got votebanned for setting up a "larping" facility at a frontline... we just wanted to provide fuel for tanks right at the front because they were literally running dry. Some angry kids who were part of a big clan came by and accused us of taking up logi reserved slots, wasting resources, etc, etc. None of us were lower rank than Lt. at that point. There was literally no legit reason for said ban at all. Yet everybody joined in on them and got our friend banned. The ban was revoked a few days later by the devs, but none of us felt like playing anymore after that.

    • @RobertLovesGames
      @RobertLovesGames  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yea the vets can be very inpatient. Which is surprising a bit to me because this game takes so much patience to play.
      I could see vets getting made if the facility was in key defensive position. Lot of people don't like factories at the frontlines. But it still never warrents getting banned over.

    Star Wars Galaxies was another MMO with a player run economy, it had a system where every item and vehicle crafted had a serial number and the name of the crafter in the detail window.
    Simply checking the crafter's name could settle disputes about stolen items or vehicles, and tracking a serial number might give a history of what player's hands the item/vehicle had passed between.
    As an aside, Foxhole's war system is more or less what I always wished a game like Star Wars Galaxies had (though with Battlefront 2 2005 style pvp since I prefer the FPS/3PS gameplay and flight model SWBF2005 had) Preferably with some sort of space to ground mechanic and some of the elements of the Galactic Contention mod for Squad. Not only that but because it's a full mmorpg with tons of content outside of the war, you could have the wars be like seasons in a sporting league. Whoever wins gets to rule/liberate the galaxy for a while until the next one and might get medals etc that they keep forever, along with PVE bonuses that last to the next war.

    • @RobertLovesGames
      @RobertLovesGames  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Star Wars Galaxies is my all time favorite MMO pre CU! It had the best crafting and economy in a game I have ever seen. Loved how every item you crafted came out different and you eventually had to get new ones. Casual players would hate that now days unfortunately.
      I would be down for crafters name in Foxhole. Would help solve a lot of drama. They can do it with last driver shouldn't be to hard with crafting as well. I actually had the idea long time ago that names should be on guns and ammo as well in Foxhole. Think it would be cool to know who crafted the item you are using.
      Some type of game like Foxhole or Planetside but Star Wars would be amazing!
      Thanks for helping me take a trip down memory lane! Miss SWG.

      @@RobertLovesGames indeed, watching the naval gameplay and imagining what that would be like in a similar vein to Battlefront 2 classic's space maps (or better yet, the modded ones that merge space and ground) Crews on the capital ships firing batteries of turrets at each other while the fighters duke it and try to get shuttles, landing craft and dropships onto the surface.
      A great deal could be learned from Foxhole pioneering what I think Combined Arms shooters like Battlefield and Battlefront should be. Global, persistent campaigns.

    Regarding Regiment-mass reporting practices, I would propose that whenever a case is proven that the system was abused by a regiment, the whole regiment loses 10% of their commends (Yes, including new members). That would disincentivise both people from joining or remaining with them, and regiments as a whole from promoting such behavior.

    • @RobertLovesGames
      @RobertLovesGames  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Honestly I would be they wouldn't care about losing 10% of their commends. If they are abusing it and the devs have proof they are abusing it then they need a ban themselves.

      If you have a mic and talk a lot it's really easy to not be suspected as an alt.
      Vets get paranoid with no rank or low ranks who are wondering around in random areas or getting in the way. Not because they are bad but because they think it's an alt trying to harm them on purpose.
      Communicating right away when you are new helps make Foxhole a lot easier for sure.

    so there are more problems as a non clan affiliated person, clans will also tend to claim a are and resouces especially component spawn areas making it nigh impossible to make anything above basic supplies and clans also tend to hoard materials that could very well mean the difference between success or failure in a nearby battle. I remember running logi to origin and passing multiple pallets of arty shells and could not access them to bring to the front and there were the clan members online at the time ignoring origins pleas for arty shells. Clans get rather elitist as well and can sour the experience for those of us who cant spend more than a couple of hours in the game a week.

    • @RobertLovesGames
      @RobertLovesGames  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've played on both sides and while there are a few clans who "hoard" resources most resources are still easy to get to make whatever you want. Just depends where you are in the war and where you are in the tech tree. Like once light tanks tech rmats are super hard to get. But once you give it a day for the rush to die down they are easy to get again.
      I agree with you that some clans out their hoard way to many resources and don't know when to release them to the public. I've seen containers and containers full of components that don't get used unfortunately.
      Like others have said it's sometimes just best to join a clan right away when you start to learn the game and that way you have access to basically everything without having to fight other people for it.

    Salty veteran players can be pretty bitchy, and clans absolutely can and do abuse the reporting system to temporarily ban certain players, but I don't think it's a significant issue in the game. I think the most common thing that a new player can get chewed out for is building random stuff in an area a clan might be building. Even after 2000hrs in the game I only build if I'm helping a higher rank build.

    • @RobertLovesGames
      @RobertLovesGames  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Like most video game players with 2,000+ hours in a game they all become very jaded and salty over time. Just happens unfortunately.
      And I agree about the building. Facilities has made it million times worse than it was before. And I'm with you. I have 1,000 hours in the game and I'm scared to start building any kind of base on my own honestly lol.

    There is one "funny" story of mine back from War 109, my first war... I and my friends just started out playing the game, mostly played together in the Linn of Mercy front on the Warden side... i set up a very small faci to allow me to make 150mm shells when the others wanted to arty (before anyone start panicking about newbies with arty, we very rarely hit our lines, we always looked up how something is supposed to be done before doing something). When the collies managed to achieve their "day 1 objective" all of a sudden i had 4 pallet of 150mm pallet to evac and 2 150mm mm arty piece... i tried to pull stuff from our small faci in Moors back all the way to Howl temporarily...
    issue was, while doing this i ran into a small problem: there were exactly zero public vehicles available in Howl seaport, so i tried to find an abandoned one... while doing so i got yelled at from left right and center to "get out of the way" and "bugger of, im doing important logi here!". I didnt knew at the time to i could just redeploy mind you or i could store away the 150mm arty pieces in the seaport or about reserve stockpiles, so i literally tried to keep everything on squad locked flatbed trucks. Looking back, it was incredibly stupid on my part, but what does that say about basically half of Howl then... The players at that hex were INCREDIBLY hostile towards anyone who was not a vet., and honestly, i never ever experienced ANYTHING like this in Brodytown, Reaching Trail(where i did 90% of my scrooping and supply making). Fortunately i was not banned or anything like that (i guess one of the benefits of doing logi mostly as a new player is by that point i was already OCdt, so i guess a lot of ppl. didnt instant reported me i guess assoonas someone cried "alt").
    By the start of this war (War 110) i learned almost everything, but when i started making my own ACTUAL faci which was more than an ammo factory for shells i got a taste for why everyone was so paranoid... my train got stolen, 2 random cpt came in and "suited themselves" with my hard scrooping materials to upgrade their tank in front of me etc. etc., but istill honestly dont get why take that frustration out on ppl. completly unrelated to any of faci related stuff still.
    But maybe the funniest bits (which happened in this war) was when i got yelled by a large clan for going in the exact oposite direction they wanted with their train on the same track (while i announced my heading in both logi and region chat, unlike them), and its happening on the tracks i built. I honestly often got the impression during war 110 to the few large clans think theyare the only ones playing the game and everyone else is supposed to fit into THEIR game. Not just to play it the correct way, but play it as THEY want you to play as. And the sad part is, those exact same clans are also pretty chill and easy to get along when they dont do something "important" (from their perspective, that is), but as soon as they do something "important" they are by faaaaar the most toxic group i ever encountered (and by the record, i played many online MMO's, toxicity is nothing new to me, so to be on the top of it is quiet something).

    Ive watched some of your videos time to time and as a foxhole vet (not rank wise, time Ive had the game) I wholeheartly agree with these issues layed out.
    From what Ive seen lately is that the reporting problem as a whole has calmed down unless you want to build a facility. In which case, you are better joining a clan and slapping signs saying this is the property of this clan. Usually it deters the other clans away from it.
    Now I do believe the Wardens have more of a problem when it comes to mass reporting new players due to certain Warden clans. Collies in my opinion are a lot nicer to new players if you ask around generally anywhere on the frontline. The backline players can be a bit more stingy but ask them anyways for help, they won't get mad to the point they will mass report you.
    I am apart of NEP (takin a short break) and everytime I see a new player on our frontline/backline. I will take the 5-10 minutes of my day to explain what they want to do and how to do it. These players make up most of the random conflicts and battles that happen on the frontline, they are truly needed. That's also where people that are incredibly egotiscal begin to have problems with new players. A lot of people think only clans are needed, but if you remove all the clanless. It is gonna be a one sided war 10/10 times. They are fundamentally required in the current state of the game. (Frontline that is, backline is usually made up of major clans and they got their own system set up.
    Now with that out of the way, if the Foxhole Devs were to ever start recruiting a Moderation team for ingame moderation. I would 100% be down to apply and hopefully put all the experience ive learned from moderating other games into making a better community for foxhole overall.

    I got banned for like 12 or 24 hours from a mass report for building a trench some clan member didn’t like.
    Edit: I quit the game for months after this and eventually came back. I definitely left a negative review and made a seigecamp ticket and got that general email the next day saying I could play again. Didn’t help me at the time though because I play games like once a week, so banning me for a day is like banning me for a week. Needless to say I was salty and didn’t return for several months. And even now I’m distrustful of the population. I’m a casual player that does mostly solo but some regiment events.

    I’m fairly new to foxhole and I’d say every experience I’ve had so far in foxhole was cool as hell. I remember one time a clan was about to get ready to destroy some towers and they decided to let a few randoms (including me) to join them. We destroyed a good number of towers before the enemy starting to come flocking in on us. We got into a firefight and eventually I was the last left. I’d say I made a heroic last stand but I kinda just sat in the vehicle before promptly being forced to leave the vehicle and executed.

    Witch-huntinting killed many times more organisations than witches themselves.
    Never had any problems with mass reporting but i can see where reviews come from.
    Just a few days ago i suggested a quick plan to a big clan on a frontline. Said plan included the use of barges and certain equipment in the inventory.
    Clan organised very fast, and in minutes we were ready. Except we couldn't move because one "random" player jumped on a barge exceeding its transport limit (6 people). Since inter-regiment comms become quite hectic, instead of spending a lot of time to explain the situation, clanman just killed the guy.
    Were they wrong? Probably, but the guy retaliated, team killing multiple clanman. Clanman then mass reported the guy.

    • @RobertLovesGames
      @RobertLovesGames  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yea those situations are tough. Egos get in the way a lot in this game and cause situations like this. If people just let it go and moved on this wouldn't happen.

    As an Ocdt frontline player, I always try to encourage new players to not be scared of dying and the focus on fun. But important stuff like arty teams I'll try to explain why they shouldn't interact with it unless they are invited to join in.

      @RobertLovesGames  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is great advice! I wish I knew that when I first started. I was so nervous on the frontline.
      Good call with the arty team. I always tell new players just ask others "do you need help with something?" and most vet players can normally use help and put a new player to work.

    I remember that within my first hours of playing that I
    A. Accidentally stole a truck full of R mats
    B. Nearly stole a train from the same clan as it was full and I believed it needed transport to the front
    C. Killed a guy and his team in a colonial tank as I thought they were some sort of spy class.
    Fun times.

    What if a clan only counts as 1 report. This instead of someone yelling in clan or squad chat and mass reporting. They only get 1 report and need to talk with and get feed back from other players (that don’t feel obligated because their clan mates) to banned someone?

    • @RobertLovesGames
      @RobertLovesGames  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Interesting idea I just have no idea how you would decide who is the person that can report. Even if it's the leader of the clan that can do the reporting they may not be there to know the full story as well.
      Then is it the leaders fault for reporting or the players that reported the player to their leader? Ya know?
      Some more communication for sure needs to happen before just mass reporting someone. We just need to figure out how that looks.
      Thanks for your idea and thoughts on this!

    I genuinely think you cannot do significantly better than the current system without investing a lot of resources into moderation for minimal returns.
    Also, I think its pretty telling that you specifically mention that situations where people COULD HAVE gotten banned but don't because they talk. Funny thing, you don't tend to get randomly banned if you explain yourself. New players are willing to communicate, and if they aren't in a team game? Well then it sort of becomes their fault.

    • @RobertLovesGames
      @RobertLovesGames  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think you may be right. Unfortunately this may be the best we have for now unless we just add better communication tools in the game.
      It's true that if you are able to use your mic I would guess you would be less likely to get banned. And yea new solo player that that mainly wants to do there own thing when they first start is normally not going to have a great time. They need to learn to work with others first honestly.

      This is exactly how I was as well when I first started playing.
      You should just do it! And you should especially do it mid to late war in the way way backlines if you just want to practice. There should be some pretty open spots with people that have got burnout from the war.

    I remember a story like that fits to this it is two or three wars old, so we as a clan had a factory, because of alts and people taking stuff we had a police of butting up shields where some like please ask use before using our factory stands on. We are normally tried to find a way to make stuff happen if you ask us. So now to the story I was not at the factory, as this happened in got told that told the story from our side. It was like they found some one, we call him x, x was doing stuff in the factory ask him what x was doing and if they could help him(x). But they couldn’t see his name because x had a weird steam name. X did not answer so and did take stuff at our factory so he got TK and reported. Now comes the interesting part X than went to the official Foxhole Discord and stated renting about how this was unfair and that he only wanted to upgrade his truck. X than got told by another person, not our clan that, he was dumbing stuff and he saw everything. Than the people in discord tried to help find out the truth, x couldn’t remember the place and gave the wrong one, our the person who saw all than said where it happened and x said that this was not the place and it looked completely different, most of the people at this time did not believe x anymore because he changed his story he told in discord so many times already. Then x told that he had 20 alts and he would just take one of the others and get his truck back. It slowed down after that. Somebody said after that that he checked all and that x took only 2mg and gave around 300 bmats. It was funny to read in discord and until today I am not really sure what happened, but he changed his story so often that I don’t really believe him.

    • @RobertLovesGames
      @RobertLovesGames  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yea that is the tough part. Who do you believe. How do you find out all the facts?
      Maybe the devs need to implement a camera system in facilities or something lol. I know the logs help and everything but maybe we still need a bit more.
      Thanks for sharing your experience with this. It's important to hear these kind of stories because trying to find out who the victim is can be really hard at times without the full stories from both stides.

    I killed an enemy, picked up his flamethrower to take it back to BB. But having never seen or used one before, I decided to give it a blip - I fired for half a second at nothing just to see the effect. A salty vet appeared out of nowhere immediately, screaming STOP WASTING FUEL!!!!

    When I was looking whether I would buy foxhole I looked at the reviews and saw all of the toxic clans mass reporting new player posts and it made me really question wheter i wanted to spend money on a game that if I made a mistake I would be mass reported and banned but in the end I decided to try. I got lucky aswell as when doing logi I fully was under the impression of most vehicles in seaports and towns are free to take people just lock them forget about them and what not so I wrenched a ironship at a seaport thinking someone left it there and got screamed at shot at while trying to explain that i dint know about it. I dint get mass reported but the reaction I got did make me switch fronts as I dint want to run into the people that wear really agressive to me for a mistake. (I also wasnt aware you could load more than one container on a Ironship).
