My very first thought is more access to water supply. But this is just one small aspect of what it takes to minimize wildfire damage.

I agree… there are many factors that would need to go into solving this long term

For structure fires here in the northeast, we can pull water from lakes and rivers in emergency situations. The fire engines are fully equipped to do so. Even private property ponds, and pools could be used. I’m sure someone could set up a public park system where more man made/managed lakes and ponds could act as a reservoir for emergency water supply.

Another great podcast!! One of the big issues is inflation (in general), specially in construction. Trying to rebuild a house in California for a insurance company cost too much. Construction companies give you estimates to what the value of your property might be after being build instead of a real number (permits, materials, labor, profit), lets say If you build a regular house with the same plans and layout one in Studio City and the other one in Sylmar or Pacoima. Which one is going to cost more? "STUDIO CITY" is going to be the most costly, because lets just put round number for building a house like 1000 sq feet. A home in Studiio City its going to be 1.8 M compared to Sylmar or Pacoima for 900K. Now if we get back to it, if you try to rebuild a house in Pacific Palisades for a insurance company its going to be way out of budget + there is no government prevention fire programs; they didnt do anything about it to prevent or protect and we never know if the will. I understand to build in California is more expensive but a neighbor State like Oregon, harder to build because of the weather the price range for new construction its less than half ($125 compared to $500 per squared feet). I think this home prices in California are outrageous, my property is 3x the priced I bought it for 10 years ago. I made profit but I don't think its right. A person with a career cant really buy a house in Los Angeles, maybe a condo depending on the area. Love LA but I'm just seeing the city going downfall.... Its dirty everywhere, homeless everywhere, Drug abuse everywhere (people talking by themself on the corner or sleeping on the alley), home robberies are growing, robberies, people with lack of educations and trying to milk the system (everywhere). There has been more often fires in Los Angeles and they knew it could happen and it did. Instead of create jobs and maybe trim a mile of vegetation to prevent for the fire to keep continue and build reservoirs and aqueducts they just waited for this to happen. I think someone or many are not doing their job right and keeping all the money, not only for the fire but for other many things that are happening. You vote for something and it never happens, its a joke... Whats the point about voting then? Things need to change or I need to move. If I'm thinking about moving when my heart is in Los Angeles, why do you think insurance companies and businesses are leaving? (too expensive to stay not worth the risk while I can keep making money somewhere else)

This conversation is so methodically hashed out. I came in with no expectation, and I feel I’m leaving with a wealth of information. While I may disagree with some of the personal view points, I being a logical person can understand why they see it in such a way. One of my biggest questions going forward, Why rebuild in the same disaster prone areas? Have we not learned our lessons? This is a wake up for when The San Andreas fault ruptures; we have to mitigate our own personal risk and prepare. We can’t say less regulation, but expect government to be at our door ready to help. They can’t run in tandem. California needs to rethink how they build out these large communities in difficult areas.

I appreciate this message so much! If we’re talking about Palisades, my expectation would be the rebuild will look different. Most likely see electrical moved below ground, new water system, and development that is more fire retardant. We will see

    Insurance can only cover
a once in blue moon family
    Coverage, Not an complete
    State of California, or else
    They loose money
    They need national state
    Fire and flood disaster
    Insurance. Combine with
    One ownership insurance
    Provided by government
    Support assistance.

Very sad to see this mike. America didn't do a "let's point fingers" when hurricane Katrina happened. America just helped.
Lately, America is too focused on taking any chance they get to attack the opposing political party rather than come together and find a practical solution to our problems.

This is different. There are basic preventable measures that can lessen the impact of fires in Cali that our governor refuses to do.

    • @mikeytaylor
      @mikeytaylor  13 วันที่ผ่านมา

I agree with you on pointing fingers, but there’s also an issue that things are being mismanaged and nothing is changing. People have been warning about this for years and we haven’t been planning. I just don’t want to see this happen again ya know? I do hear what you’re saying and appreciate the message!

I hope we all take a minute to consider that climate change is a huge reason for this. We need to build infrastructure and the resiliency to handle these problems but we should also tax the shit out of oil companies and charge them to work to decrease emissions. The other is we must figure out a system involving the government to protect and support people’s homes. Insurance companies can’t be expected to carry the burden. I disagree with probably everything you support politically but I do think your heart is in the right place and we need coalitions to fix this shit.

    • @keenarnia

This fire was preventable. Our governor / mayor of LA are complacent. How much should they be sued due to the devastation climate effects from this fire that they caused? How much pollution is is the air because of them for this fire? How many trees will need to be cut to rebuild houses because of them?
Simply cleaning this brush and shutting off power lines could have prevented all this. They did nothing.

Sustainable forest firehydrants... just need a saw, screws, and large tarp... basically cut down like 10 trees and use saw mill to build large water tower with eco-friendly tarp material that catches rain water... it would be better than dam because the water would already be dispersed throughout the forests ready for use... plus if they burn down, then they take a huge dump of water on the fire... win win win... yall or anyone yall know interested? Just let me know... trying to come up with real solutions here... 🫡🫡🫡

Sorry I'm not hooked up to neuralink, so I don't have a shareable link... I just did some brainstorming and thought of this solution... would not be too hard to do... I couldn't find anything like it on google... maybe a good idea, but all depends on getting past the tape and hoops... 🫡❤️🙏🌊🔥🇺🇸
