    Let's try this again...
    It's been a while, so here we go. Even though it's incredibly embarrassing, I've decided to show off the current state of my toy room! My collection is a disaster, so I plan to make this the first part in my journey to cleaning and organizing both my toy room and studio! Please don't judge me too harshly. I hope you enjoy!

      Pixel Dan hey why is it boring fixing the collection cause I have thousands and thousands of marvel and dc comics, trading cards, and figures and for me it's always fun organizing my collection every once a year or twice.

    This is a perfect example of why I'm suuuuuuuuuuper picky about what I collect.

      With some toylines, I only collect favorite characters or figures that would interest me. There's few toylines I continuously collect like Marvel Legends and Star Wars.

    Hey, thank you for making this video. I was working on a video like this to show how while toy reviewing and collecting as a TH-camr is fun, there is an absolute dark side and space is a constant issue. I never got around to actually completing my mini documentary but I'm glad you are doing it. It makes me glad that I'm not alone with this issue and that I too can change my ways.

    I see this as a great challenge for yourself that I do all the time because I don't have a set room for my smaller collection. Biggest thing would be to start cataloging and storing for your future move. It will be so great when you start making dents into that goal. Love to see how this progresses.

  • @skinslip

    Anxiety can be a real jerk. It can turn things we love into sources of stress. Don't feel bad for being human, man. Just remember take it one day at a time. Every time you walk by, just tidy up one small thing. Eventually it gets done. But I think you have that part figured out. Hope you get the room sorted and can find happiness in your toy room once again.

    1st of all, thanks for making yourself so vulnerable to show us your collection room... 2nd, dont be embarrassed by that at all... your not the only person that has a collection room that looks this way (not saying i do, but i just know that your not the only one)... u have a collection that many people would give ANYTHING to have, and i have to admit, it is a pretty epic collection... i know its easy said than done, but just a little bit at a time goes a long way... i know its easy to look at the whole picture and get overwhelmed, but if u just spend 5-10 mins a day organizing or putting some of them away, u will have them situated in no time at all... thanks again for sharing your amazing collection with us and having the guts to share this video with all of us... i hope u and your family have a safe and super Happy New Year... thanks for all the fun videos Dan and Stina!!!

  • @MechaISH
    @MechaISH 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Wow Dan, I have been going through a very similar situation. I have been collecting for many years now, and thanks to you have been inspired to start my own toy review channel this year. The problem has been that even though I have a nice shelving set up, I live in an apartment so space is limited. And my time for displaying figures, had gone to nil due to family, full time job, and the ever-growing collection of toys. Awesome figures I've wanted to review/display just piled up and piled up. I had enough and wanted my place to look presentable again lol. So over the past week I have been doing a big overhaul of my collection: rotating collections, storing lots of stuff, making a group I plan to sell, etc... and IT IS therapy Dan. Even though I am not finished displaying all of my collection yet, it looks a heck of a lot better, and I feel great about finally doing something about what's been hanging over my head for the past year. So hang in there Dan. Thank you so much for showing this video. I am comforted knowing I am not alone out there. I'll let you know when I've posted my collection video, if you have time to check it out. But as always, thanks for the content. And best of luck with everything Dan. Happy New Year to you and your lovely family.

  • @Tubester001
    @Tubester001 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've been there, and it's challenging but worth it in the end. Sort, sell, and stow until you know. Pick what you wan to display, and store other items. You can recycle your displays occassionally, change up the themes, and still get to enjoy it all. Empty your room, purchase and install some nice display cases, shelving, lighting, and put it all back while trying to resist the urge to cluttering it up again. Space things out, and enjoy!
    Lookin forward to seeing your progress. You can do it!!

I have three small rooms that I use to display various collections and all three have gotten out of hand, so believe me I understand what you're saying about it being stressful just looking at the clutter. Maybe all us collectors who have fallen behind can use these videos as motivation to also organize our collections better collaboratively.

    I am moving soon to a house instead of being a roommate my toy/plush collection is almost crippling how bad it is. I think as collectors we have to decide what we want to collect and stick with it and sell the rest. It's hard I know I'm going to have to get rid of a lot when I move out. I sometimes feel like the clutter closes in it's almost claustrophobic. I can feel what your saying long story short. I hope you the best and stay strong.

    It feels like you still barely just moved in this place somehow, like the toy room was just starting to get together. Man, you are right, stress like this is the last thing you should be getting out of this. Maybe the new place at some point will give you even more room and it will make things a lot easier. This video series is a great idea and yeah, when you collect, you definitely shouldn't be afraid of getting rid of some stuff to make room for some new stuff. Just taking things one step at a time, little by little, and you'll be fine. Good luck on this new journey man!

    I am absolutely flabbergasted when I saw how much you collected! I gotta agree with you with some of your figures needing to be organized and some figures not needed. In fact, I am trying to at least sell some of my figures that I really have no real attachments to. I like to collect action figures of my favorite characters, but I have to restrain myself due to money.

    Man, I know the feeling of that. I'm running out of room for my figures too in my room. I don't have a place for my Titans Return Fortress Maximus, so he stands on the floor in my room to the side a bit. I need to get in there one of these days and properly organize things, thin the collection out of some of the stuff I no longer hold an interest in, and in general, just get things organized. Hope your journey goes well, and that you don't have any heart break in the process. (That is, none of the figures that fell down got broken from the fall hopefully. Only one way to find out.)

  • @Turtlepower1982
    @Turtlepower1982 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I feel your pain, Dan. I have the same problem and have tried so hard to organize. Packed up between a dozen to 20 large totes full of stuff and my toy room is still a dump. Might be time to let some of it go to a new home...maybe you can take the money from anything you can sell and put it into a college fund for your son? I know it's hard to let stuff go, but you can't take it with you when you die. Sucks to downsize a collection but you might be happier for it. Good luck, anxious to see some progress.

  • @amusedjester
    @amusedjester 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    My advice? I'd go to Walmart, get 5 or 6 of those large blue storage boxes and line them up on one side. Start on one corner floor and start tossing the figures in the boxes and try to sort it out somewhat. Keep going until you get the floor cleared and the boxes full. That's an instant change that should motivate you more. Then, I would go to the shelves and if you're keeping them there, get the figures all standing. Once you get the shelves done, you can go back through the boxes and start to put them up as well. The boxes should serve you in the future as well. You can put all the stuff you're reviewing until you have the time to put them up. Or start storing some of the figures in the boxes as well.

Did a little clean up tonight.. Im in the process of house-buying, and its going to feel great to finally after near a decade, break my collection out of persistent storage. I sometimes buy something twice because I didn't remember I had it in the first place! And not always a cheap item too. >< One thing I'd recommend, is in your next home, making sure you get a 9 ft basement. I couldn't afford a finished basement and will have to do it later, but made sure they put it in at 9 ft to maximize space when its finally done so it feels like any floor of the house instead of a cramped basement. You have a great collection and stuff like the Troll Force and Amicable Herculean are definitely showcase-worthy conversation items that should be on display for everyone to check out. My uncle had a friend who managed some Kay-Bee Toy stores, so when some closed, he was able to get some counter top display cases that really helped him not only with space, but making his displays look good. Sometimes a piece of glass can make all the difference between collection and clutter.

    As I was looking at your room. It may be possible to put some more shelving or cases to the ceiling in the center. There may be a possibility for two more rows. These may alleviate the trouble on the floor. Just a suggestion and nothing else.
    Great videos, great reviews and always kid friendly! Keep your head up and hope everything works out well for you!

    Awesome collection and video. Thanks for sharing. Collecting is certainly a labor of love. I am currently running out of room for my 6 inch black series collection. Of course, I try to get them all. Hopefully I'll see you at Toyman if you are there thinning out some of your collection. Happy New year and keep the cool videos coming.

    Hahaha, I understand the reluctance to own up to it, but as a fellow toy hoarder myself, I get that space starts to really run out. Luckily you're moving into a larger house, but even if I had only that room to work with, after sorting through and getting rid of unwanted stuff, I feel like the space could still house that giant collection! You just have to make efficient and full use of it. I'm excited to see what the collection will look like when you move into your new place!

    Watching this and hoping it'll motivate me to organise my own toy room! I've got some new shelves coming soon and I'm dreading making space for them - I've got stuff stacked on the floor just like you!
    Your collection is amazing. =)

    it's either the best way to display/keep your toys or the worst, I can't decide, some people don't take their toys out of the box/packaging/board, you obviously do take them out. the question is will you be like the Lego movie dad or not, you don't have to share them with your kids, but the question will come up

    We definitely have to work on this room Pixel Dan. The display is half the battle. Cheering for ya.

    Great video, you have so many cool things , good luck on sorting through it all, you have very little star wars on display, I was surprised by that, always enjoy your reviews, cheers!

    i loved this. two recommendations .... you could go through a wall and dig more basement. or get more totes pack everything as though you have already sold the house and only display one collection a month .then you could have a nice uncrowned display more room to work on all those unreviewed stuff and you would get to have a turtle month every year . i had know idea you had a strait job as well . your awesome and i thank you for all the toy entertainment . steina is awesome too .

    Your vintage motu collection is clearly taking up needed space for your tmnt toys. I'd be glad to help you with those! Lol Awesome Video Sir & good luck with the organizing!

    My advice is to limit what you collect. I collect Masters of the Universe and Japanese figures only. I would love to collect other things but it would be chaos. Hope you get it worked out though and love your videos!

    I recommend buying plastic bins from Target or Walmart for storage and moving. That's what I use.

    I don't feel as bad now :), I've got a lego deathstar in the middle of mine and then figures, extra heads, hands, weapons and random pieces. moving a large collection can suck, but you get a second run putting them all back up, especially lego sets. great video PD.
