I got one door to install. Now all I need is a CNC machine, table saw, band saw, sanding machine, hand saw, cordless drill, drill press, nail gun...pretty much a whole wood work shop. Or I can just use a chisel and hammer with a pencil. Lol...I’m just jealous...it is nice to have all the tools.
😂😂
you forgot the dedicated work table.. I'm not jealous, I have all that s..stuff. Sad part when I look at it is it's payed from my salary after or before tax to finish faster so I can work more and in weekends... chisel and hammer it is. Setting everything up takes way more time than me, my chisel and sharpening stone
Great video. Thank you so much. I will make one this weekend. 👍🏽
Great! I am buying a Cnc to creat my jig . Thank you
Awesome job!
usually ends of the door on the angle, and you clamp it to side. Now your fixture not flat with cutting surface
this is exactly what I was looking for!
Awesome!
Great video man. Makes good sense
Thanks!!
...the dog walking in was the highlight...
I agree. Installing lights isn't too thrilling.
Great instructionals and build. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you!
Nice Tim, but how did you cut the hinges recess in the door jamb? That's my weekend DIY project!
I was replacing old doors so they were already there luckily. Good luck!
Wow!
That gave me idea how to make one piece long jig for 3 hinges instead of paying £200 for trend. You can route template easily using fence and putting two stops across. Thanks for video.
Glad I could help!
Do you have your x carve CNC file to share with other makers? Thank you.
It's long gone by now, sorry!
Very useful - might have been helpful to show a bit more of the completed jig. Not sure if you were using a plunge router or not; if not, I recommend getting one!
Agreed - I'm trying to do more shots of the completed project at the end. I do not have a plunge router, but I have seen add-ons available to the model I currently own.
Plunging is not needed for mortising a hinge using this jig. You set the depth of the cut on the router to match the thickness of the hinge and then start the cut at the edge of the door.
Great tip
After removing the waste material from the cnc why not use the flush trim bit to clean it up instead of sanding
Great question, maybe I thought sanding would be easier than taking out my router and getting it setup. Can't remember at this point!
Would it not have been a better idea to use a plunge router and set a depth rather than nail another piece of ply on top?
Yes that'd work as well, but I don't have a plunge router
Hi Tim, please could you tell me what table saw you are using in this video.
It's the Kobalt 10-in Carbide-tipped Blade 15-Amp Portable Table Saw. Picked it up from Lowe's. Look around though, the fence on this saw wasn't the greatest and I see a lot of people deciding to go with DeWALT instead.
nice!
Thanks!
Project file for x-carve?
Was looking for a quick template as I'm a Chippy (Carpenter for you blokes in the U.S....bloody hell mate, I'll stick to using my palm router and/or good old hammer and chisel. If you need a crazy jig like that just to set a stinking hinge on a door id say reconsider you're profession...fark me lol. You'd take a day just to set a day. I'm moving on.
I'm no Chippy and my chisel and freehand router ain't perfect. Tried routing one of them without a template and looked atrocious. Yes, the jig took a bit to make, but it was a fun project, the rest of the mortises fit snug and it made me happy. Cheers!
@@CasualBuilds fair call mate.
@ bartbug1:
completely agree.
As in:
screw the hinge slapped around the corner with the pen face out with 2 screws 15cm from the top of the door (20cm from the bottom),
carefully mark the outline with the flat part inwards of the chisel,
take the hinge off,
re-bang the outline with 4-5mm overlap with the chisel with flat side outwards,
bang the chisel in the middle to the wanted depth,
mark how the wood grain goes and bang the part out,
cut-slide with a wide chisel to flatten from the side,
repeat until deep enough,
measure if the door has diagonally the same length and repeat same but 5 or 10 mm from and less from bottom
use decent length screws and remember the rebate looks nice but the screws are holding the door
nice job! i need to make a jig on a in place existing jam also.... i like the adjustment feature...thanks for your insight..... CHEERS
Thanks! Good luck with your jig!
Template came out good tbough you think by drawing an outline of hinges on new door jamb with wood off can the router carefully router out entire hinge area without a template?
Yes, I'm sure you could easily do this without a template! In my case, I was installing 4 new doors, so thought I'd try to make one and show you guys how I did it.
Thanks for sharing this idea. Just a little feedback on the video, you could make it a whole lot shorter but it was still pretty damn good, from one creator to another. Cheers!
hahaha...just break out my CNC machine, oh...and the Fusion 360 soft ($$$$)...one day
You didn't use it on the jamb.
didn't need to.
How to spend a weekend making a hinge jig for 3 doors lol
lol
Time is money why didn't you just buy a ryobi Hinge template for $15
Cause I wasn't in a rush and wanted to build my own.
Gotta love inflation they are now $29.99 🤣
Not sure how inflation is at 8% when literally everything has gone up 40-50% in price’
The ryobi new version one sucks if anyone is looking to get it look for the older version’
While ryobi is sorta cheap the way it screws on door flexes it the clamp sucks and mortises weren’t equal depth’
Also u can’t use it for jamb side if jamb already installed’
But agree it’s a quick
Quick fix lol
@@joshymcdaniel9233 $29.00 , wow.
🤦🏻♂️
Quick and easy. Use a CNC router. Lol this fuckin guy. No CNC? Just hop on your bandsaw! Ok sure.
