To keep the original rules as much as possible: Make the snitch have a point per minute worth or something like that. The longer the game goes on, the more valuable it becomes. This way it isn't OP in the early game but it also keepss its worth in the the late game. And maybe instead of a fixed time limit, make the snitch slow down or grow shine brightly or anything else (you have magic, you can think of something) to make it gradually easier to catch the longer the game goes on.
Im going to agree with StickX. It would make more sense to either have a set time limit on the game with an inverse point value associated with catching the snitch, or leaving it an open time-frame game but have the snitch still utilize an inverse point value while keeping the condition that catching it ends the game. That was catching the snitch early in the game would still have value, but catching it later in the game (when the difference of point values out match the value of the snitch alone).
I see what you're getting at, but wouldn't it be better if the Snitch started at a set point, and then lots points for each minute? This would be OP in early game, but the snitch would be harder to catch and would make the teams invest more in their seeker, as the snitch would be worth like 250 points, but if the game goes on for like 2 hrs and the snitch is only worth 130 points and both teams probably has scored enough for 130 points not to be worth it anymore, you would move up your seekers to the forth chaser positon Ben mentioned, to score more goals. The snitch would still be cathable, and be easier to catch, but worth less, with a set "low" at something like 50 or 30. It could still be a gamechanger, depending on when you catch it and how much you are up/down by and it could be important for the total score for the seassons scoreboard, but it wouldn't be verry OP, unless you caught it after 10 min. Hmm, perhaps, perhaps not. it would be interesting if there were a computer program that let you play quidditch with changabe rules so that you could try your way to the best/most even
I also would say opposite to point per minute increase, a point per minute decrease would be good too. the longer it takes to catch the less it is worth. that way teams would be encouraged to rally points in other ways as compared to slacking during the game and depending on catching the snitch. that and have a fixed match timr
What I'm trying to do is save as many original rules as possible while addressing the problems with the snitch: OP early game, useless late game and the possibility of endlessly long games if uncaught. The original rule I mainly want to keep is to have the capture of the snitch be the end of the match. That's why I want to make it easier to catch over time. Realistically it should never get as ridiculous as a flying lightbulb or it casually flying across the field. A good seeker should be able to capture it long before stuff like this happens. If it does turn out to become that ridiculous, then the reward for finally catching that damn snitch should be greater no?
I always thought that it would be good for the snitch to *just* end the game and not do anything else, that way if your team is losing, the seeker's job becomes stopping the opposing seeker from catching the snitch and ending the game. Although this version would probably also require a time limit, and the snitch only being released at half time or something, up until which the seekers both play as chasers. This would also mean that if your team is losing, your seeker has the option of completely ignoring the snitch and the opposing seeker and playing as a fourth chaser to help get your team back up, before then looking for the snitch
"This would also mean that if your team is losing, your seeker has the option of completely ignoring the snitch and the opposing seeker and playing as a fourth chaser to help get your team back up, before then looking for the snitch" - You want to leave the opposing seeker completely free to look for the snitch alone? They'll probably catch it while you're not looking, not a good idea
Harry Potter and the Prizoner of Azkaban, by J.K. Rowling. Chapter 15: The Quidditch Final Wood: "YOU MUST ONLY CAPTURE THE SNITCH IF WE ARE MORE THAN 50 POINT'S UP." "REMEMBER HARRY, ONLY CATCH THE SNITCH IF WE ARE MORE THA--" Harry: " *_I KNOW, OLIVER._* "
In Quidditch, You can't substitute out an injured player. Why? All sports allow a team to substitute out injured players. This rule means an unscrupulous team's Beaters can target the other team's Seeker to no end, injuring him so much that he can't play anymore, forcing the other team to forfeit. That's dangerous and extremely unsportsmanlike.
Exactly. PLUS, Quidditch is EXTREMELY dangerous, you have a high risk of dying in it if a Bludger gets you and you plummet. Sure, Football is dangerous too, but it's VERY unlikely to die from it. Plus, they have helmets and pads. Why don't the Quidditch players get any protective padding?
LillyPotter352 On top of protecting their own team from the Bludgers, they are allowed to hit them toward the other team. Nothing could stop some outrageously dirty playing Beaters from seriously injuring the other Seeker.
+MadeofAwesome4ever yes I know they can hit the other members of the opposite team with the bludgers but they can hit them with the bat directly.I should have worded that better.

Or the snitch could be worth no points and just end the game. So the points earned during the game are still relevant and the rest of the players have motivation to score higher without relying on the snitch, and the seekers have motivation to catch the snitch to end the game when their team is ahead
Or there could be a maximum amount of points, like once a team hits 2000 points the game ends, and you could even add a rule that the rest of the players stop playing and the seekers go head to head to get the snitch, in this case the snitch would be worth points though
I think the Snitch should end the game, but be worth no points. That way, the teams' Seekers have to balance keeping the other team's Seeker away from the Snitch when their team's losing and catching it themselves when their team's winning. That way, it becomes less OP and more of a way of securing your team's victory before the other team can catch up. More strategy, you know.
But that leaves the potential issue of a 10 minute game being won with only 1 goal being scored. that does not lead to interesting sport. If your team was the best team in the league but goot fluked out of the cup by the bottom seed, thats no fun for you.
BUT if BOTH of the captains say to only catch it when their team is up on points then you will pretty much only have one team going for the snitch at once, which makes the game very short with the normal rules. And don't say defence because there are reasonable rules against that. For goodness sake, they're up on broomsticks flying VERY VERY HIGH IN THE AIR. Logic people.
I thought I had a great new idea for the game, and I was typing it out while watching this...only to realize that most of it had already been suggested by Ben. (I know I'd seen this video before, but I didn't remember how much of my "new" idea matched with Ben's solution.) However, my idea does include one main difference. While I do want the Snitch to be worth a lot fewer points (25, 35, 45, 55), I'm not opposed the idea of the Snitch ending the game early when caught before the time runs out. That could keep the pressure on a Seeker to find it as soon as possible while their team still has the advantage. However, if that game-ending rule is to remain, I think the Snitch should not be released until the game has been going on for an hour or so. I'd hate getting hyped up to watch a big sports game and then have it end up taking only three minutes. Imagine if basketball had a rule that you could end the game at any time by making a shot from the opposite side of the court. (Now I'm having thoughts of a game-ending full court shot being worth 30 points...)
I like the idea of having to catch the snitch three times. Each time would subtract one of the goal posts on your team making it harder for the opponents to score. Each snitch caught awarding 20-40 points or something. Game ends when one team has no more goals. That's just off the top of my head though
Quiddich is an incredibly aggressive sport 1. There are two iron balls crusing at 40 mph and their only goal is to hit you. 2. The players are playing at high altitudes basically sitting on a stick 3. If two players crashed, with both of them going very fast their speed adds up and they are lucky if they survive 4. There is a small gold ball somewhere going incredibly fast and you have no way to see it until it hits your eye 5. A broom has sharp ends and the players have soft necks... And they start playing from the age of 11 WHAT THE GODDAMN HELL ??!!
How to fix Quidditch: 1)The snitch is worth 100 points and ends the game as long as it is in a 5 hour limit. If the game exceeds the time limit the team with the most points wins. 2)Put a spell on the ground so people don't fall to their deaths. 3)Have a broomstick speed limit so they are around the same speed.
But then you're relying so much on the other team not catching the snitch, or you just lose.. unless you have racked up a lead of over 100 points, which is insane. It's kinda lame to lose after having a 90 point lead over the span of up to almost 5 hoursss of work. Also the agility of the broom and the such.
OK so here is how you fix Quidditch: 1) Time limit of 3 hours. 2) Snitch is worth 50 points, not 150, giving the chasers/goal scoring a much more important role. 3) Catching the snitch DOES end the game. (This gives extra incentive to a seeker losing by more than 50 points to block and prevent the other seeker catching it until their chasers have caught up in goals) 4) If the seeker gets taken out permanently by a bludger or any other reason, one of the chasers becomes the secondary seeker until the game ends. (This is a well-balanced disadvantage of having 2 chasers, a result of the seeker's lack of avoidance skill, or the opposition's excellent aim) 5) I might have overlooked this somewhere, but put a slow-fall spell above the ground so people don't fall to their deaths (obvious?) 6) Have multiple Butterbeer vendors in the crowd :D 7) Disallow wands to be carried by players - no exceptions. 8) Have anti-hex, anti-curse barriers around the stands so the audience can't cast any magic toward the players - and make it illegal to do so regardless. 9) Auto-cast Impervious spell on all players, so one doesn't have visibility advantage over anyone else in poor weather. Feel free to add any amendments to this :)
Good additions!! My contribution might be: Make height/altitude over twice (2.5x?) the length of the field "out of bounds" so that players remain relatively visible to spectators. (Only considered a penalty if the snitch is caught outside that boundary.) Also, stadium officials could make a magical, artificial "roof" for inclement weather. They might also magically broadcast certain shots on a viewscreen (like a huge tapestry) under the announcers' box across from the house/team seating and private boxes. (Or maybe that would be more for professional teams?)
Reminds me of my real life teachers who kept treatening us with letters of censure for absolute dumb shit in first grade, because eleven-year olds had no idea how much bureaucracy comes with one.
@@lahlybird895 I'm thinking they are very important, as it adds a strategic dimension. Your can't focus only on the snitch, as that will leave you open to the chasers of the other team scoring unhindered. Still, you can't focus only on chasers, since that opens for the other team to dominate catching the snitch. A successfull team will be one that balances these two areas of the game. It's actually pretty interesting.
@@oscca7756 hmm. Perhaps, but it seems like this version would still make them less important. there whole job is to score points. 10 points per scor. But if your also winning points with the snitch. And it's worrth 4× what the chasers make, Then...
Snitch in world cup is most likely on a whole different level. Think of say soccer, teams of a highschool playing it vs a world cup. All the players in World Cup used finest brooms possible and if I remember right the players moved and acted at a blinding speed
Well, when Harry used Nimbus 2000 it's the best broom available, and in the 4th book, the ireland team are the only one with 7 Firebolt, I think that even if the pro players didn't use old Cleansweeps, it can be a difference between teams ^^
Hey, these guys are in school. They have studying to do. You can't just have them playing quidditch every week (or month [... or 3 months, as each team is only going to play 3 matches {maybe you're right}]).
I always thought quidditch was purposefully ridiculous, because that's how most people feel about sports in most schools. One or two people getting a lot of attention from tons of excited people over stuff that seems entirely arbitrary at best and completely nonsensical and potentially dangerous at worst. At least that's what football looked like to me in high school and college.
Lol no professional sport, in the real world, is purposefully ridiculous. You can say also say Harry Potter is entirely arbitrary. But they're not. They both serve the purpose of being entertainment. Driving is dangerous, flying is dangerous. Idk what the point of this post is. If you say sports is ridiculous then you're also saying that reading books, watching movies, playing video games, any type of entertainment/art is ridiculous.
@@bennettn9669 2004 or 2005, Quidditch World Cup. An all time favourite game of mine that would be cool to have. Exactly identical with updated graphics and more teams with maybe the possibility of mixing it up Fifa style, like creating your own team
I had a halfway decent idea. Once the snitch gets caught, then there is like a ten minute timer left on the game starting whenever someone catches the snitch, so like if one team just has a god squad where all the players are insane and they’re crushing the other team, but the opposing team has a superb seeker, then team 1 has ample time to win because they’re the better overall team
i'd assume the professional snitches and bludgers would be faster in professional just like there are certain rules in school sports that don't exist or are different in pro leagues.
Really depends on a couple factors. (A) How good at snitchblocking is each seeker? (B) How good at snitchblocking is each teams beaters? (C) How good are each teams chasers at getting enough of a lead to make ending the game in their favor either way? (D) How good are each teams keepers at preventing the other team from getting that kind of a lead? So really, the whole team is a factor at determining how much of a priority actually catching the snitch is. Within the first stretch of the game, obviously the snitch is a game ender. So you want to prioritise your beaters on the opposing teams seeker to prevent an early upset. As the game drags on, the skill of each teams keepers and chasers determines how important each seeker is in their capacity of 'catching' vs 'disrupting', and depending on that, the priority of your beaters may likewise change. Depending how strong your chasers are, you may actually play a seeker who is better at blocking capture than making capture. I'd say this is what Ireland did but..... either Krum is SUPER OP in his role or Ireland didn't have that strong a seeker. The longer a game goes, the more strategy plays into it. Frankly, I feel beaters are an under-appreciated role on the team, since they have to be the most fluid in their tactics according to game momentum and opposing team skill. Seekers have the second most fluid role, as they need to be able to switch tactics from capture to interference depending on the performance of their chasers and keepers. Chasers and Keepers have the most set-in-stone roles, as regardless of whats going on their job remains the same. Get quaffle, put quaffle in opponents hoop, keep quaffle out of their hoop. Regardless of the momentum of the game, their actual role and focus doesn't change as much as seekers or beaters. I will agree the point value of the snitch capture should be dropped. I'd say 50 points and ending the game is a good margin, since that means you only need to be up 6 goals to render an opposing snitch capture moot, as opposed to 16. Tho we have seen progress in the magical world moves at a sloths pace, with much more emphasis put on tradition, so it is also quite likely that as the skill of players and quality of brooms improved, snitch captures became easier. I would guess that in the early, and even middling years of the sport a super fast snitch capture was probably far less likely.
Except if the seeker is superiorly skilled. I can't remember which book an example happened... but it was a game where whole Slitherin team had Nimbus 2001's(best at the time)vs opposing team's inferior brooms
That was In Chamber of Secrets, when Malfoy bought his way into the Slytherin team by providing the team with the newer (and blacker) model of Harry's broom
And when harry got the firebolt in the prisoner of azkaban, it was pretty much an insta-win for him every game since he was so much faster then the snitch and the other players.
I had a dream that I found a wand at age 13 and was able to use it. I wondered why I wasn't attending a Wizarding school and I found out that America didn't have one. I decided to teach myself how to use it. Then I woke up and found out it was all a dream and I literally started crying ;-;
I think that there should be a time limit on quidditch games but that catching the snitch should only be extra points and shouldn't end the game. Great video btw.
I like the idea of it ending the game, i think there is a massive issue in the films where they say catching the snitch means you win. I think it shouldnt be such a high point value it should just end the game. essentially the snitch race starts the second 1 team gets more points because nows its a race to end the game and seekers not only have to pay attention to the game but also try and catch this super fast thing.
I think the snitch should still end the game, but only be worth 15 points. That way it's still worth more than a regular goal (barely), but its main function is to prevent ties.
Having a better broom doesn't do you much good if you don't know how to use it. Slytherin's Nimbus 2001s didn't do them much good considering how Harry handled his 2000.
On the other hand, having all the skill in the world won't do you much good if your broom is cheap enough that you can't catch up with anyone else's souped-up brooms. Imagine that this was some kind of racing sport, something a bit more complex than go-in-a-circle-500-times but still where speed and maneuverability were important. Now imagine that players/teams who can afford good cars can drive the cutting-edge cars, while players/teams who _can't_ have to do with mildly souped-up sedans. How much do you think skill is going to matter? "Still some, but not as much as it should"?
Well, the Nimbus 2001 does not outclassed the 2000 by a large thing, I think, it's just the model a little better. And Harry catch the SNitch because Malfoy was not looking for it in fact XD
aicarrie1 alike an instrument, if you use it like a worse model then it will play like one, but if you use it correctly then you have an advantage because you are just a better player
The broom differential makes me think that this is part of the competition as well. Sort of like in racing, where it’s not just about the skill of the driver but also the quality of the car itself. Also, polo on horseback is probably affected by the physical fitness of the horses being ridden in some fashion. Re the snitch winning the game almost always, I think the point is that the entire game is meant to be centered around the Seekers in a fundamental way. Basically the chasers are there to make sure that each team has something to force them to put in effort (like you can’t have your entire team look for the snitch since the other side would just run up the score on you and win that way). The chasers are basically fighting to keep the game locked in an effective tie until their seeker can catch the snitch.
@@veronikaczr1105 Exactly, plus the teams themselves are modifying the cars to try to make them the best as they can. In quidditch I'm pretty sure players just buy the brooms off the shelf and do zero modification...
@@wontonii232 Maybe in pro quidditch there's a heavy modification side to broom upkeep that they don't go into, and teens just get commercial brooms cause they can't be expected to have the skills or resources that a professional team has. Though I myself still find this a bit unrealistic. There's no way there wouldn't be a whole club around modifying brooms if it was a done thing.
I think the snitch only makes the game unfair at Hogwarts and other school level Quidditch teams. Cause if you think about it, Hogwarts Quidditch is a lot like college football. The college teams consistently get less total points than NFL teams due to a lack of total practice time. So in Quidditch I think the same idea would apply; in professional games (like in goblet of fire) the point totals get so high that the snitch isn't as important. Which personally I think is quite fair. Now the broom thing is a completely separate issue...
The problem is that the snitch ends the game, so if you know that even with the extra 150 points you’ll still lose, you could just choose not to catch the snitch.
@@goldengear1000 ofc it happened in a book as well, it was clearly said they needed to score the amount of points before catching the snitch.. well it was for winning the cup, but still ... the main problem is, there is that another guy who is after the snitch as well

And one more thing I forgot to add: both J and Martin are the oldest, followed by Chris/Ben.
I also loved the snitch ending the game especially in POA: 15. Nevertheless, why not have both. The first capture earns 150 pts, but second one, by the same seeker, ends the game.
That's all well and good but what really needs fixed in Harry Potter is the money. I've read all of the books at least three times and I can still never remember how many sickles are in a galleon
There are 17 Sickles in a Galleon, and yes, the money desperately needs to be fixed, especially because I'm pretty sure Rowling changed the values between the first and fourth books.
Just wait for J.K Rowling to make it even more confusing by adding a completely different American wizard currency with a weird exchange rate for Fantastic Beasts
would you recommend me to read that fanfic? I've heard good things about it, but i also heard that half the book is thoughts, and 3/8 of the book is dialog, and there isn't much action
If you're in it for the action (particularly external conflict), stay away from HPMoR at all costs. If you prefer story telling focused on characters rather than action, with lots of thoughts and dialogue, and plenty of portion sized looks into very real methods of rationality (eg psychological phenomena, scientific methods), then HPMoR might be one of your favourite books, fanfic or not. If you are undecideed, then I would definitely recommend giving it a try; you'll likely find out very quickly whether it is your cup of tea.
+Melvin Shaw There's actually an international Quidditch Association consisting of schools like Harvard, etc (idk any others XD) but we just set up our own chapter on our campus last year. all we need to form an organization on campus is a group of 10 people
+Jackson Overland (Frost) That is actually really impressive. I've heard of people actually playing the game, but I did not know there was an official organization for it.
Speaking as someone who played soccer a lot as a child but not a lot else, I think Rowling coming up with a whole sport, including rules, an entire history, and whimsical details like being able to play for months at a time, is awesome and incredibly creative. And of course it doesn't have to make a lot of sense; Rowling herself has said that wizards are kind of stuck in strange customs and a lot of things they do don't make sense. For example, even British wizards use non-metric units like inches and ounces. If you think Americans are messed up for not switching to the metric system, think about how weird it must be to actually live in England and have to keep two different systems (one for Muggle interactions and one for wizarding interactions). Anyway, having a sport that makes no sense seems exactly like what wizards would do.
All of my new catchphrases are found in this video, thank you. Here are a few I'll be using: #SnitchPlease #SnitchesBeCrazy #BasicSnitch If you have anymore ideas, comment them
i think that your snitch idea is good, but maybe have the snitch catchable multiple times? like, maybe decrease the amount of points its worth but make it that you can catch it any amount of times
Another solution: catching the snitch just ends the game. So the losing team's seeker is not trying to catch the snitch, but stop the other seeker from catching it. And the beaters can help too.
1. The snitch is worth 50 points. 2. The snitch doesn't end the game. 3. The game is played in periods of 45 minutes, and whoever has the most point after two periods, wins. The seekers can join the chasers after the snitch is caught. This is how me and my friends play IRL quidditch. Works great and it's super fun. The snitch is an actual person dressed in yellow, who has a tail with a golden ball on it that the seekers have to grab. The game is played on a football field by having brooms in between our legs at all times. We don't use the entire pitch, but the size varies, we just set up goal posts where it feels right. Penalties for dropping broom or not having it in between legs. The snitch is switched out every 5 minutes or so, so the snitch doesn't get too tired from running away from the seekers. Bludgers are soft balls like in dodgeball, and they're thrown. Any person can have any combination of chasers and beaters, the only rule is that whoever holds a bludger can only move three steps before throwing it. If you are hit, you have to stand still for 30 seconds.
Hermione doesn't like quidditch and doesn't see the point in it. And I'm pretty sure the only book Ron has ever properly read is Quidditch Through The Ages. So it would probably be "Shut up Ron."
I've always had a hard time with Quidditch. I write a lot of stories while the characters are going to Hogwarts, but I never know how to handle the games. I've always end up having them cancelled or skipped over thanks to the complex rules. I understand what every role does, but it's hard to know what's legal and what isn't thanks to the rules being so complicated.
Now I know why so many characters get upset when they don’t make the team because it’s one of the very few physical activities you can do at the school and there’s only one team for each house
Ok guys, stand back. I wanna take a stab at this. *draws knife* Welcome to Maelstrym's Refined Rules of Quidditch, alternately known as Von Emring rules quidditch. There are either 5 or 6 balls, and a total of 9 goals per team. The balls are: the standard quaffle, 2-3 bludgers, the Golden Snitch, and the Silver Snitch. There are 5 goals to get the quaffle through, arranged in a square pattern with one in the middle. The forward goal, the one facing the center of the field, is the largest and is worth 3 points. The 2 on the sides are smaller, and are worth 5 points. The one in the back is smaller still and is worth 7. The goal in the middle is the smallest, and rotates slowly on a vertical axis. It's worth 13 points. Then you have the Bludging Gates, 4 goals, between the 3-pointer and 5-pointers in size, which rotate around the others vertically, looking like a wheel from the side, except spinning slowly around. There is enough space between the Bludging Gates and the goals for the goalkeeper and 1 other player to safely fly. The quaffle can only go through 1 goal, but can ricochet off them as much as it wants. Chasers are the only people allowed to move the quaffle, with the exceptions of the goalie (obviously), and the beaters, who can only strike it backwards, and only with their clubs. The beaters regular job is to defend the chasers from the bludgers, large, padded balls with a weak numbing spell which try to hunt them down. To this end, they are more heavily padded than the other players, and carry heavy wooden clubs. Next, you have the Seeker. They are the only people (other than the goalie) allowed to catch or chase after the Snitches, though the beaters can hit them if they come in range. The beaters aren't allowed to hunt them down though. The Seeker can act as a Chaser. And finally, you have the goalie. To explain their role, I must describe the field. Under my rules, it is a third as wide as it is long (length is whatever the standard Quidditch pitch is). The goalie is confined to a square a fifth of the length of the field (or a quarter, depending on the length, which I confess to not knowing). This square is centered around the goals, the largest of which is the same size as a typical Quidditch goal, with the smallest being a third. There are usually 4 chasers, plus the Seeker, and the goalie, who is allowed to act as chaser within their box, with 3-4 beaters, based on how many bludgers there are, 2 or 3. The quaffle must be thrown through the hoops, other than that you can transport it pretty much however you wish. The Golden Snitch is worth 52 points, and the capture of the Silver Snitch signals the end of the game. There are regulations set as to the speed, maneuvering, acceleration, strength, etc, of the brooms ridden, with different maximums set for every role. There are official regulations, but typically the teams will agree on what they are using beforehand. And that is the end of Maelstrym's Refined Rules of Quidditch. Please give me your thoughts and critiques (nicely, I would ask), and questions are very, very welcome. Feel free to point out holes in the rules situations that need specific rules, or entire areas I missed, it'll be fun coming up with new rules on the fly and pretending that I knew them the entire time.
um yeah...... you DEFINITELY fixed quidditch xD I feel like someone should tweet this to Rowling and see how she reacts.I feel if she could she would change the quidditch matches to these rules!
Darth Maelstrym Lightbreaker Me neither xD I just find social media too time consuming for me but I'll see if I can get a friend to do so.It'd be awesome!
Enchilada Armada Nope it's an actual class. The actual course is called 'sex, death and textuality' with the topic being Harry Potter. SS we looks at those topics within the series and see how their portrayed within the books and movies. So for sex it's looking at masculinity/femininity and sexuality within the series (and sexy HP fanfiction, no joke), death and its portrayal along with war and Christianity, then textuality looking at texts within the series comparing the book and movies then studies written about HP. But basically we're just having an in depth look at the series and over analyzing everything :P
problens with Quidditch? maybe the fact that you are allowed to send a heavy iron ball straight into someone's neck? call me crazy but those seem to be a even greater problem than the snitch
I like your idea of having the seeker be a 4th chaser. You could turn your idea around and say the snitch doesnt award any points but ends the game. Giving a team thats behind the option to use 4 chasers against 3 while the winning team expends one of its chasers to catch the snitch to end the game before the opponents catch up.
Since the 150 point rule seems to not be quite as big of a deal in professional quidditch because professional players can score more points before the seeker is able to catch the snitch as seen in Goblet of Fire, but does seem to matter in school quidditch, maybe school quidditch matches should only give 50 points or something like that. I mean, I would assume that professional play uses more difficult snitches because they would have more skilled seekers, so why should they have the exact same rules about catching it?
the thing about the snitch is that it brings strategy into the game if your team is ahead look for the snitch to end the game! your team is starting to lose? look for the snitch to catch the opposing team from behind! your team is badly loosing? make sure the opposing team is not getting the snitch! the catcher at this point could become a beater for his own team while they are loosing... so yea the snitch is the most important ball but it dosent mean that it is the sole importance if a team decides to all go looking for the snitch (wich was one strategy that i heard very often) the opposing team is free to score as many points as they so please making it easy for them to score 16 points before the opposing team finds it and get it to the seeker... as for the brooms i see it more like F1. in F1 they have the same model of cars but not the same engine the same fuel the same tires etc... quidditch is supose to be a game that can either demonstrate endurance or that can demonstrate the fast reflexes of your team depending on your teams strategy
Value of game should be decided by points and snitch for example Loss and no snitch=0 Loss and snitch=1 Win and no snitch=3 Win and snitch=4. Catching the snitch ends the game and gives no goals(game points). Both teams will try to catch the snitch in a tournament setting, also you can add the variable goals at the end of the tournament in case of a tie(most points scored),or even give extra 3-4 points for the most goals achieved..Which means that even if ur team loses a game,if u dominate a game or 2 by scoring a lot,you can get a "free win" by achieving most goals..All these combined make the game super complex and many strategies(for example,in a dominating game, you stall with beaters and the seeker marking the enemy seeker, and the losing side might try to come back by having beaters assist the chasers)..
I like that it ends the game because it adds strategy. Like if you a 300-100 if you catch it you still lose, but that means that you have to be super aware to avoid the other catcher to finish the game, and wait for your team to score five goals in a row to at least get a tie
I love this video. I'm a huge sports fan and I'm getting into Harry Potter now, and I really love the scenes with the Quidditch games except the Seeker role. I would've loved to see Harry as a chaser or a keeper. Because in most team sports all the positions interact with each other to some extent. For example the QB is usually in sync with his receivers and linemen. But in Quidditch, everyone cooperates except the seeker. He's kinda left to his own devices messing around with a golden metal ball with wings! They're barely part of the team! They're like Punters except seekers can win you the game! #SnitchesBeCrazy
in plot terms, the snitch should end the game just to keep the plot going and having Harry win by himself. On the other hand, if I were to be playing that I would like it much better if catching the snitch gave points, rather that winning the game, and having a time limit. I feel this would make the game more fair.
3D cupcake Muggle Quidditch ended up making more sense, lol. You run with a broom between your legs, so you're actually getting exercise. There are only chasers, keepers and beaters, and they use soft projectiles so no one gets hurt.
This is what happens when you have a fantasy writer creating a sport. The sport is like, super cool and whimsical, but they will never ever make sense in practice lol
I always wondered what kept the snitch in the field. We always assume “magic”, but it goes up, up, and away...so... it seems like it can go wherever it wants to really...
And what if the snitch flies into the forrest? What defines the boundaries of the game field and how does the snitch know them? I suppose runes but its something else unexplained.
If i was playing and I would miss an exam SURE I'll play for days but I mean the time limit and the snitch being extra points is actually a rlly good idea. This is my 2nd video I've watched of u and already subscribed! U guys and Seamus are my favourites 👍
I think the Snitch should end the game instead of adding points, that way it gives the Seeker reason to work with the team instead of going on their own and just catching the Snitch and being the Hero Every Single Time.
One thing that has always driven me nuts about Quidditch scoring is the arbitrarily high point values (Quaffle-10 points, Snitch-150 points). Why not reduce those to 1 point for the Quaffle and 15 for the snitch? The Snitch is still 15 times the point value. Reduce your fractions JK.
you see, it makes no sense. why would Víctor catch it and end a game, making the loss automátic. ?? why would you still catch it or even lool for it if you know you Will loose by default
Dear SuperCarlinBrothers, I'm going through one of those fanboy phases, this time about one of my oldest series of books I've read countless times... A Series of Unfortunate Events, and I was wondering, if there a possible hidden story behind it all?
Like the movies/books say, the games could go on... pretty much forever if the snitch is not caught, and that would last to be WAY more than 150 points.
One thing that both your videos about Quidditch has forgotten to mention is that Quidditch is a sport that has existed for centuries and, like most things in the Wizarding world, probably hasn't changed much since its creation. So the rules that made sense then might not apply so well now, but Wizards are anchored in their ways... About Brooms: Do you think it makes sense brooms would have different "specialties" (one that super fast, one that you can ride with one hand, etc.)? If so, making all the players use the same brooms might not be an advantage at all. And players might prefer to use a broom they are comfortable with, rather than a shiny new one every year. Also, in the books, except right before a match or for qualifications, no team except Griffindor's is mentioned as practicing... And I do think it's Oliver Wood's doing. (and maybe McGonagall) Didn't he become a professional player after he left Hogwarts? We know the team was good when Charlie Weasley played, but maybe this whole "training every week" was Wood's obsession over Quidditch, encouraged by McGonagall who wanted her house team to win? Additionally, regarding the 6-matches-in-a-season, are you forgetting that Hogwarts is located in the north, maybe in Scotland? It would get freezing cold and stay cold for quite a while, so it might not be realistic to have a match every month... and Mrs Pomfrey would strongly object to students playing for potentially hours in the cold. Food for thoughts. (Slytherin for the win!)
Also, maybe it's only the point difference that counts. That way, extra-long matches were both teams scored plenty of goals wouldn't matter so much to the ranking. And it would explain why Krum caught the Snitch so early rather than waiting for the point difference to grow (still, what kind of pro would loose the game on purpose?)
What if the snitch makes the game end early, but only IF you're ahead, so if you are behind, and you catch the snitch, that the game ends the moment you catch up for even a second.
How isn't the snitch relevant? If one team was up by a thousand points they'd want/need to catch the snitch to end the game before the other team got a chance to beat them.
Guys are you sure the final score was Ireland 170 - Bulgaria 160? Because I have the book in a different language and it specifically says 270 to 160! I don't believe they made a mistake in such an easy and simple translation of mere numbers, so there must be something else going on. Is it possible that Rowling changed the score in subsequent re-editions of the book (as is mine) to justify Krum catching the Snitch? I've heard she's changed other details in those re-editions, as well
I have my copy of GoF right here. It says "the scoreboard was flashing BULGARIA: ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY, IRELAND: ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY". It's an early edition, and in English, so I can't speak for all editions/translations.

Yeah. The sport itself is flawed but it's perfect for the story.

I think this is a really good idea except where it gets easier to Catch as time passes by
Im going to agree with StickX.

Exactly what I was thinking throughout the whole thing!
Why do I get the feeling Kimi Räikkönen's "yeah yeah I know what I'm doing" was inspired by this?
Yevhenii Diomidov tru tho
Well remember if a beater attacks a player they get a penalty so I'm pretty sure that's the only thing keeping them from attacking the other team.
One thing is clear from Quidditch and the Tri-Wizard Tournament. Rowling has no clue how spectator sports work.

Or the snitch could be worth no points and just end the game. So the points earned during the game are still relevant and the rest of the players have motivation to score higher without relying on the snitch, and the seekers have motivation to catch the snitch to end the game when their team is ahead
That is a good idea :). Like if your team had 2000 and the other team had 1800 you would end the game so you could win. makes sense :)
Good idea, but you still have the problem of games potentially going on for days.
but that was hus point!
Tauron Mitronion Just add a time limit and the snitch makes it end faster.
+Negative Kangaroo oh I do like this idea too!
But that leaves the potential issue of a 10 minute game being won with only 1 goal being scored. that does not lead to interesting sport. If your team was the best team in the league but goot fluked out of the cup by the bottom seed, thats no fun for you.
イデアぃけ裏イデアべってr
I like ur so idea better
BUT if BOTH of the captains say to only catch it when their team is up on points then you will pretty much only have one team going for the snitch at once, which makes the game very short with the normal rules. And don't say defence because there are reasonable rules against that. For goodness sake, they're up on broomsticks flying VERY VERY HIGH IN THE AIR. Logic people.
I thought I had a great new idea for the game, and I was typing it out while watching this...only to realize that most of it had already been suggested by Ben. (I know I'd seen this video before, but I didn't remember how much of my "new" idea matched with Ben's solution.)
However, my idea does include one main difference.
I love this!
Ghost Boys OMG, that's brilliant 😄
Makes sense tho
I actually love the idea of the goal posts disappearing, it keeps all the whimsical magic of the Snitch and sounds super interesting
This is cool, but suddenly matches last three times as long
Quiddich is an incredibly aggressive sport
1. There are two iron balls crusing at 40 mph and their only goal is to hit you.
2. The players are playing at high altitudes basically sitting on a stick
3. If two players crashed, with both of them going very fast their speed adds up and they are lucky if they survive
4. There is a small gold ball somewhere going incredibly fast and you have no way to see it until it hits your eye
5. A broom has sharp ends and the players have soft necks...
And they start playing from the age of 11
WHAT THE GODDAMN HELL ??!!
From the age of twelve on the House teams actually, but they can start before 11 playing at home..

+Noari Games no no no no. NO! It's HARRY FREAKIN' POTTER!
Yeah but they have magic, so they can easily fix most injuries.
Harry got his bones replaced in his arm though....
How to fix Quidditch:
1)The snitch is worth 100 points and ends the game as long as it is in a 5 hour limit.
You are taking all fun from the game
I know how to have it make more sense.. not that she wants that.. but it would make the game way more fun.
youtuber girl How?
if there is a speed limit then there's no purpose for a seeker
OK so here is how you fix Quidditch:
1) Time limit of 3 hours.
2) Snitch is worth 50 points, not 150, giving the chasers/goal scoring a much more important role.
3) Catching the snitch DOES end the game. (This gives extra incentive to a seeker losing by more than 50 points to block and prevent the other seeker catching it until their chasers have caught up in goals)
4) If the seeker gets taken out permanently by a bludger or any other reason, one of the chasers becomes the secondary seeker until the game ends. (This is a well-balanced disadvantage of having 2 chasers, a result of the seeker's lack of avoidance skill, or the opposition's excellent aim)
5) I might have overlooked this somewhere, but put a slow-fall spell above the ground so people don't fall to their deaths (obvious?)
6) Have multiple Butterbeer vendors in the crowd :D
7) Disallow wands to be carried by players - no exceptions.
Niceeee but I don’t get the butterbeer
Lucky Clover no specific reason just bc it would be cool lol
Good additions!!
My contribution might be:
Make height/altitude over twice (2.5x?) the length of the field "out of bounds" so that players remain relatively visible to spectators. (Only considered a penalty if the snitch is caught outside that boundary.)
Also, stadium officials could make a magical, artificial "roof" for inclement weather. They might also magically broadcast certain shots on a viewscreen (like a huge tapestry) under the announcers' box across from the house/team seating and private boxes. (Or maybe that would be more for professional teams?)
Make every player use the same broom

@@lahlybird895 I'm thinking they are very important, as it adds a strategic dimension. Your can't focus only on the snitch, as that will leave you open to the chasers of the other team scoring unhindered. Still, you can't focus only on chasers, since that opens for the other team to dominate catching the snitch. A successfull team will be one that balances these two areas of the game.

Interesting point, but there's no way J.K.R. intended that. I think she just had no clue how sports work.

Wouldn’t the professionals be able to catch the snitch within 10 minutes every game?
i'd assume the professional snitches and bludgers would be faster in professional just like there are certain rules in school sports that don't exist or are different in pro leagues.
Yeah, but the other team has professionals too
#SnitchesBeCrazy I'm done 😂😂😂
I'd wear that on a shirt.
I know right
Isn't it a reference to Domics?
Omg Seamus I LOVE your theories!!!!
Yo I love your videos
It's basically the kids that can afford better brooms win
Except if the seeker is superiorly skilled. I can't remember which book an example happened... but it was a game where whole Slitherin team had Nimbus 2001's(best at the time)vs opposing team's inferior brooms
That was In Chamber of Secrets, when Malfoy bought his way into the Slytherin team by providing the team with the newer (and blacker) model of Harry's broom
Yea I remembered the Malfoy part but not when it happened. Thanks.
Tappajaav
yeah, but even then, harry only had a Nimbus 2000. it's a negligible difference in power from just one year of advancement.
And when harry got the firebolt in the prisoner of azkaban, it was pretty much an insta-win for him every game since he was so much faster then the snitch and the other players.
SO MANY SNITCH-RELATED HASHTAGS!!!!
I had a dream that I found a wand at age 13 and was able to use it. I wondered why I wasn't attending a Wizarding school and I found out that America didn't have one. I decided to teach myself how to use it. Then I woke up and found out it was all a dream and I literally started crying ;-;
There is a magical school in America. Ilvermorny.
America does have a wizarding school :p Ilvermorny, read the lore if you want: www.pottermore.com/writing-by-jk-rowling/ilvermorny
+Jordan Wells I think you missed the bit where this was. A DREAM. Just like Harry potter is a work of FICTION :)
PingPing The tiny chain smoker What' s your problem?
actually america does have one :P its confirmed by JK and is called Ilvermorny.
I always thought quidditch has no sense because wizards don't think logically by our standards.
You're so right - they don't!!
"Most wizards don't have an ounce of logic" - Hermoine
Kristi Bledsoe
Exactly
+FalleAMVs your right
Michael Wizardry is not a race.
I think that there should be a time limit on quidditch games but that catching the snitch should only be extra points and shouldn't end the game. Great video btw.
+SherlockednLoaded thanks!
hi
Or even better, get rid off the snitch
John SuperDude what possision would harry or me play
WHY WOULD U GET RID OF THE SNITCH!?!?!!?🤐
I like the idea of it ending the game, i think there is a massive issue in the films where they say catching the snitch means you win. I think it shouldnt be such a high point value it should just end the game. essentially the snitch race starts the second 1 team gets more points because nows its a race to end the game and seekers not only have to pay attention to the game but also try and catch this super fast thing.
Now combine this with the seekers being allowed to function as chasers.
but that would distract the seeker who already has to keep track of the score and make sure the other seeker doesnt get the snitch
excellent points. More thought out than my version of the same thing, well done.
R u related to my teachet
I think the snitch should still end the game, but only be worth 15 points. That way it's still worth more than a regular goal (barely), but its main function is to prevent ties.
"This sport has 99 problems and the snitch is all of them." Hah! :3
Like 7 Ferraris against 1 supercharged hellcat
aicarrie1 alike an instrument, if you use it like a worse model then it will play like one, but if you use it correctly then you have an advantage because you are just a better player
There weren´t 2000 different models before the 2001. There where 3 (1000, 1001 and 2000).
With cars, you have categories and those have their limits. So it is about having the best car, but in certain boarders.
Is it weird that football is more confusing to me than quidditch?
Yes
No ,it is not.
Football football, or fat guy football?
No, not weird at all. I'm with ya. I totally get Quidditch; football absolutely baffles me.
you mean wimp football? or good football?
Same as elektric wheelchair hockey I play. Some teams has faster and more controllable electric wheelchairs than others :p
Dude that sounds really cool! 😁
It is very cool Indeed. Now I’ve a fast wheelchair, but in the past I hadn’t. And now my team wins more. Hehe
You went from a clean sweep to a nimbus
I think the snitch only makes the game unfair at Hogwarts and other school level Quidditch teams. Cause if you think about it, Hogwarts Quidditch is a lot like college football. The college teams consistently get less total points than NFL teams due to a lack of total practice time. So in Quidditch I think the same idea would apply; in professional games (like in goblet of fire) the point totals get so high that the snitch isn't as important. Which personally I think is quite fair. Now the broom thing is a completely separate issue...
Is it like that? In Soccer it's basically the other way round, the higher the level of play is, the less goals get made.
The quality of brooms should only matter in professional Quidditch. You need good brooms, get them!
The problem is that the snitch ends the game, so if you know that even with the extra 150 points you’ll still lose, you could just choose not to catch the snitch.
@@JonaxII okay, than go with a basketball, NBA, hockey .....
@@goldengear1000 ofc it happened in a book as well, it was clearly said they needed to score the amount of points before catching the snitch.. well it was for winning the cup, but still ... the main problem is, there is that another guy who is after the snitch as well

GUYS I HAVE A THEORY
SuperCarlinBrothers = Kratt Brothers
J looks like cartoon Martin and is the more spontaneous, child-at-heart, blue-wearing type.
Ben looks like Chris and is the more organized thinker, yet still fun (and for some reason, I associate Ben with green, just like Chris.)
And one more thing I forgot to add: both J and Martin are the oldest, followed by Chris/Ben.
lol XD agree with you %100
Cool name btw
zabomafu or the newer show
i hace not associated the Kraft bros with the Carlin bros. with zabumafoo.
wow you ggggooooouuurrrd hat splleng
I also loved the snitch ending the game especially in POA: 15. Nevertheless, why not have both. The first capture earns 150 pts, but second one, by the same seeker, ends the game.
That's all well and good but what really needs fixed in Harry Potter is the money. I've read all of the books at least three times and I can still never remember how many sickles are in a galleon
There are 17 Sickles in a Galleon, and yes, the money desperately needs to be fixed, especially because I'm pretty sure Rowling changed the values between the first and fourth books.
+Rebecca Sorgenfrei isn't it also 11 knuts to a sickle?
No, there's 29, because why would the system need to be easy/logical?
Just wait for J.K Rowling to make it even more confusing by adding a completely different American wizard currency with a weird exchange rate for Fantastic Beasts
+Patrick De Brun oh dear God no
The snitch hashtags were literally the reason my day was amazing
Ben: .... Incase you're not re-reading the books like some people we may or may not know are.
Me: Aweee! You know me??
Lol, a reminder that I need to finish Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality.
Oh, hello, fellow fanfic reader.
I'm not the only one that knows about that book!
would you recommend me to read that fanfic?
I've heard good things about it, but i also heard that half the book is thoughts, and 3/8 of the book is dialog, and there isn't much action
+wariolandgoldpiramid it's an awesome read. totally recommended
Our college's Quidditch club started today so you better believe I showed everyone this video! XD
Nice!
That's amazing!!!!!!!!
How on earth did your school get a Quidditch club???
+Melvin Shaw There's actually an international Quidditch Association consisting of schools like Harvard, etc (idk any others XD) but we just set up our own chapter on our campus last year. all we need to form an organization on campus is a group of 10 people
+Jackson Overland (Frost) That is actually really impressive. I've heard of people actually playing the game, but I did not know there was an official organization for it.
What about this
The snitch is rseleased 3 different times after the last time the game end

Anyway, having a sport that makes no sense seems exactly like what wizards would do.
i believe she made up Quiditch making no sense to piss off her boyfriend
It's called football.
I'm aware it's called football in other cultures :) However, this channel is made by Americans.
Contrary to popular belief, the UK actually uses both systems anyway!

FuRy, did you watch th e video?
Don’t get me wrong - this is cool... but now I want a video of y’all waddling around with brooms between your legs 😂
When it comes to brooms, I just have 1 thing to say.... NASCAR~
probably was a thing at some point but after a bad incident they may have SWEPT is under the rug.
You want a broom that only turns left. No thanks.

That’s why you need a seeker like Harry
There was a quiditch match that lasted months. You would know this if you read Quiditch Throughout the Ages
shut up hermione
MaxtheMonster ayy lmao
Hermione doesn't like quidditch and doesn't see the point in it. And I'm pretty sure the only book Ron has ever properly read is Quidditch Through The Ages. So it would probably be "Shut up Ron."
And to be exact, it was six months. The snitch wasn't even ever caught. The teams simply quit.
Snap x-D
'on the fly'... heh. Good one. ;)
um yeah......
you DEFINITELY fixed quidditch xD I feel like someone should tweet this to Rowling and see how she reacts.I feel if she could she would change the quidditch matches to these rules!

My university has a Harry Potter class. I went to my first class today, it was great :)
what! what university?
Nipissing University, its in Canada.
+Jay B. wut do dey teach is it a book club
What university?
Enchilada Armada Nope it's an actual class. The actual course is called 'sex, death and textuality' with the topic being Harry Potter. SS we looks at those topics within the series and see how their portrayed within the books and movies. So for sex it's looking at masculinity/femininity and sexuality within the series (and sexy HP fanfiction, no joke), death and its portrayal along with war and Christianity, then textuality looking at texts within the series comparing the book and movies then studies written about HP. But basically we're just having an in depth look at the series and over analyzing everything :P
In real-life quidditch, the snitch is only worth 30 points, and isn't released until 18 minutes into the game.
problens with Quidditch? maybe the fact that you are allowed to send a heavy iron ball straight into someone's neck? call me crazy but those seem to be a even greater problem than the snitch
in the wizarding world, they can heal mere physical wounds within a matter of seconds, and oliver wood says nobody ever got killed by one.
No, he said nobody got killed by a Bludger on Hogwarts before, but it has happened outside of Hogwarts.
Is it realy iron?
Nay.
postmasterpez used to be lead
Who else cried on the first day of school not because, like, school sucks. But because they won't be attending Hogwarts?
Or Ilvermorny. But yeah... every year. :'(
+Morgan Stiefvater Or your respective school of magic.

+Mia Miric you mean discount Hogwarts
the thing about the snitch is that it brings strategy into the game if your team is ahead look for the snitch to end the game!
your team is starting to lose? look for the snitch to catch the opposing team from behind!
your team is badly loosing? make sure the opposing team is not getting the snitch! the catcher at this point could become a beater for his own team while they are loosing...
so yea the snitch is the most important ball but it dosent mean that it is the sole importance if a team decides to all go looking for the snitch (wich was one strategy that i heard very often) the opposing team is free to score as many points as they so please making it easy for them to score 16 points before the opposing team finds it and get it to the seeker...
as for the brooms i see it more like F1. in F1 they have the same model of cars but not the same engine the same fuel the same tires etc...
quidditch is supose to be a game that can either demonstrate endurance or that can demonstrate the fast reflexes of your team depending on your teams strategy
Value of game should be decided by points and snitch for example
Loss and no snitch=0
Loss and snitch=1
Win and no snitch=3
Win and snitch=4.
The snitch should be 50 points.
In the wizaring world do they collect cards and talk about the rosters like in the muggle world with sports like football
3D cupcake omfg, the snitch does give points just a lot of them
3D cupcake Muggle Quidditch ended up making more sense, lol. You run with a broom between your legs, so you're actually getting exercise. There are only chasers, keepers and beaters, and they use soft projectiles so no one gets hurt.
Hello fellow pan
This is what happens when you have a fantasy writer creating a sport. The sport is like, super cool and whimsical, but they will never ever make sense in practice lol
I always wondered what kept the snitch in the field. We always assume “magic”, but it goes up, up, and away...so... it seems like it can go wherever it wants to really...
It's not supposed to make sense. It's the wizarding world XD
They don't even have some sort of a magic barrier around the forest to prevent students from sneaking in, for fuck's sake.

Completely fixed.
When I first heard that the snitch ended the game I thought that there was a timer but catching the snitch means you win
In the Goblet of Fire, the Irish had enough points to beat the snitch. So when Victor Krum caught the snitch, they still won. SO POINTS STILL COUNT!!!
He means when there aren't enough to win even with the snitch. Its hard to catch then the game ends you could still lose
you see, it makes no sense. why would Víctor catch it and end a game, making the loss automátic. ?? why would you still catch it or even lool for it if you know you Will loose by default
+isma Fonseca well it's his job I guess...I guess you're right. Hard to admit a flaw of one of your favorite things on the planet.

several different types of snitches in play, each with a different effect on the game if caught
“The boy has 99 problems and the snitch is all of them” OML IM DEAD LAUGHING😂😂😂😭😭😭😭
I always thought at the rule was who ever gets to 150 first. That is why the snitch is 150 and ends the game.
+robert o'dell no, it's worth an extra 150 on top of your current score and it ends the game
Like the movies/books say, the games could go on... pretty much forever if the snitch is not caught, and that would last to be WAY more than 150 points.
Unless both keepers are excellent and the rest of the teams suck.
Certain games of the world cup are time-limited to 2 hours. Also, the team chooses the broom so they would probably choose the best.
The only sport I understand is quidditch.

+Dat Boi... you just ruined the beautiful snitch comments...
+Connor White if you are up by 1000 there is no way the other team is coming back
If the snitch isn't caught, it is a possibility.
+Connor White games can and have lasted for weeks
Wasn't the longest game somewhere around three months, I believe ? Or was it three weeks ?
I think it was months xD
Guys are you sure the final score was Ireland 170 - Bulgaria 160? Because I have the book in a different language and it specifically says 270 to 160! I don't believe they made a mistake in such an easy and simple translation of mere numbers, so there must be something else going on. Is it possible that Rowling changed the score in subsequent re-editions of the book (as is mine) to justify Krum catching the Snitch? I've heard she's changed other details in those re-editions, as well
It was 170-160. I have an excellent memory.
I have my copy of GoF right here. It says "the scoreboard was flashing BULGARIA: ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY, IRELAND: ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY". It's an early edition, and in English, so I can't speak for all editions/translations.
