    Excellent little pistol! Mine is the 4 1/4” version of the gun you are shooting…same color scheme. Mine is exceptionally accurate. Easily a 2.5”-3.0” grouping gun out to 25 yd!

    I just purchased this pistol in April this past year. Biggest frustration is finding ammo to put some rounds through it. Lovely shooting pistol. You get what you pay for and this one is a gem. I must say the 380 is an impressive round through the 4.25 inch barrel. I have this gun in my carry rotation and love it.

      Bill, I just brought that out again a few days ago for a friend to try. He couldn't get the smile off his face after shooting it. But my .380 ammo supply won't last forever.

    Your review is the only positive one I've seen. Many many complaints on Brownings customer service on youtube and 1911 forums.

    • @RidersRange
      @RidersRange  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Henry, the problems I've heard with Browning customer "service" is one reason I haven't send it in for the slide-stop issue. I'd rather live with it and maybe work on it myself, rather than send it back to Browning. But it is a fun gun to shoot - and wonderfully accurate.

      Is there much difference between the two in recoil or accuracy?

    • @markcrawford996
      @markcrawford996 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Sir - the recoil is minimal in both - the accuracy is great in both - however - in a pinch to defend myself I would go for the 3.6" before the 4.25" ... If I was shooting targets for scoring I would go for the longer barrel ...

    • @RidersRange
      @RidersRange  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      EpicMarket, that comes from many years of PPC competition where the sight alignment had to be within 1/100” of perfect when the bullet left the barrel to be competitive at 50 yards. I just try to treat every press of the trigger as though it’s a dry-fire.

    I wonder if the mass of that slide is just too much for the 380 to engage that slide lock. The ejection pattern looked like it might be a little weak. I would love to own one but it seems quite a few people are having problems with it.

    • @froggymann65
      @froggymann65 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My 4.25” gun has never failed to lock open on empty. I have about 1k rd thru it. Love it! Excellent pistol. And, as anemic as the 380 may be, that 4.25” barrel extracts all the ballistic energy the cartridge has to offer. And is extremely accurate to boot!

  • @froggymann65
    @froggymann65 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Is it possible that you are riding the slide lock lever while shooting. I know of 5 other owners of the same pistol and none of these have failures to lock open on the last round. It is small, maybe you’re depressing the lever…. Excellent shooting, by the way!

    • @RidersRange
      @RidersRange  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for watching and commenting. I am conscious of the slide release and I've tried different ways of gripping, including left handed, and it still fails to lock back most of the time with four different magazines. So, that means the gun needs a new slide stop lever.

    I damn near bought one of these last night with a camo/bronze cerakote job on it.
    It's just a hair too small for my hand, and the 380 isn't really all that great.
    I want an American made all black on black 1911 in 45acp but, I tell you what, kids: If this thing had fit my hand, and been at least 9mm, I would've bought it

    • @RidersRange
      @RidersRange  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mr. Nobody, there are many affordable options out there that are American-made. My Great Affordable 1911 Series just scratched the surface of what's available. Springfield and Kimber are American companies and they make affordable 1911s in 9mm and .45. If you are looking for something just a hair smaller than a standard 1911, the Springfield EMP series may be an option. Thanks for watching and commenting.

  • @richardtravalini6731

    It probably won't lock back because the load is not hot enough or the gun isn't broken in.

    • @RidersRange
      @RidersRange  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for watching and commenting. I've used standard velocity, as well as defense loads and the gun is well broken in. However, the catch on the slide release lever is just a tad short, so it doesn't reliably catch on the mag follower. One of these days I'll replace it.

    Does Browning offer a replacement for the ambi safety? I’m R handed and would prefer a R handed safety. Is that something I could get a Smith to swap out? I love mine but dislike the snagable safety. Granted I’ve yet to snag it and have it fail while doing chores but it is an exposed control surface that needn’t be.

    • @RidersRange
      @RidersRange  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rob, I'm not a fan of ambi safeties either, but I am not aware of a single-sided safety for that gun. I'm guessing a competent gunsmith could help you out.

    Great shooting rider! Can you see enough of the target at 50 yards? I'm 62 years young and have been transitioning to the red dot on many of my pistols because I cannot see (Identify) the threat at more than 15 feet w/o my glasses. I shoot much better with my glasses and the red dot especially at distance. The shame of it is I have several nice pistols (for instance my EDC - X9) that I do not shoot much anymore since they do not have RDS sights. Thanks for the video; take care.

    Hey when you pull the slide are you having to hold down the side safety sorry if its silly question

    • @RidersRange
      @RidersRange  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      waffleonsyrup, it isn't necessary to hold it down, but it must be disengaged. It isn't like the micro 1911-wannabees, such as the Kimber Micro, Sig P238, Springfield 911, Colt Mustang. On those guns the safety doesn't engage the slide as it does on an actual 1911 and the Browning Black Label.

      ogfergi, the issue appears to be with the slide-stop lever. I have found it's easier to replace that myself than to send a gun back to the mother ship. And while having a slide lock back after the last shot is a nice clue that the gun is empty, I don't rely on that feature, so not locking backing isn't something I rush into correcting.

    • @jtdundee
      @jtdundee 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RidersRange Had that issue on a 1991 Commander; the side of the stop contacting the frame had a little burr dragging on the frame - just enough to stop it from moving as easily as it should. After getting a new stop the slide stayed back and I was able to compare both, see the burr on the old one and smooth it out.
