All of those I have them in an special collectors album I bought decades ago called "ABBA Thank you for the Music" that consists of 4 CDs.
People in Nordic countries are exposed to multiple languages from a young age so they develop an affinity for foreign pronunciation. In Swedish they roll their "Rs" too (except in the south of the country) so it's not as difficult as it is for pure Anglophones. Add the fact that they're all so musically gifted, and therefore have highly developed ears, and it's not surprising that their Spanish accent is decent. My favorite ABBA song in any language. Both of these women are fantastic vocalists in their own right but, when they harmonize, I think they created a sound unlike anything the world had ever heard before. Just magical!

Yes...I absolutely love this version. I fell in love 🥰 this group when I was 11 years old after hearing “SOS” on American Band Stand. I bought the Record and played it constantly. It made my dad disgusted with my Musical choice back then, I memorized his Rock n Roll and Country as well. So now I listen to a whole genre of music. Buddy & Mary travelled to Stockholm to assist with the pronunciation and diction. The Spanish album the following year is beautiful, and was very popular in Japan, reaching No3 in some chart (may be foreign chart) and allegedly selling 80,000 copies (according to official Abba magazine.) They didn't learn Spanish. They only hired a teacher who taught them how to pronounce the words. It could as well have been Arabic, Chinese, Greenlandic or any other language. A testimony to their incredible talent. Needless to say, this version of the song became immensely popular in Latin America where it was interpreted as an encouragement for the democratic movements in many of the countries that were under dictatorship at the time.

Bjorn can speak Spanish fluently (see interviews), but the girls were coached in Spanish phonetics to sing the songs, I don’t understand Spanish, but the results of all their Spanish tracks sound ravishing to me.

I am from Argentina when ABBA premiered "Chiquitita" at the UNICEF Concert here, it was followed on television and "Chiquitita" was ABBA's first great success in Argentina How it was also successful in Mexico and other Latin American countries ABBA decided to record it in Spanish And the success was greater in the Hispanic American public, including Spain (there is that presentation, for the show "300 million") The adaptation of the lyrics into Spanish was made by the Argentine brothers McCluscky It is not an exact translation, in fact in the original third stanza (the first after the chorus) the adaptation in Spanish does not make it and repeats that of the first stanza For this reason, part of the spirit of the song is lost And the effusive singing of the second chorus with the lyrics that precedes it remains a little misplaced. This is not the fault of ABBA but of the person who did not complete the adaptation ABBA already makes an extraordinary effort that I believe no other group of similar level did: leave their mother tongue (which is also not English) and sing in several languages foreign to their culture and ideosyncracy, and do so with respect, professionalism and quality From what I said before, prefer ABBA singing "Chiquitita" in English, but admit that they do it well in Spanish. Your facial reactions during this vid were priceless. I really was curious to see how you’d respond particularly given your fluency in Spanish. There were times during the vid when it was evident by your smile and the way you lit up that you were feeling this song. If you haven’t already done a video for the Spanish version of Fernando I would love to see how you’d react to that. I’m sure you probably already know this, but, in case you don’t, they have an album of the hits they did in Spanish called “Gracias Por La Musica” which of course includes “Chiquitita”
Bjorn speaks perfect English as does benny the girls struggled with english at first but did master it agnetha had some hits in her early days with some German songs all on you tube ! .
The Spanish lyrics of the song are so well constructed that it seemed as if the whole song was originally made in Spanish. When Agnetha begins to sing it seems that Benny is creatively improvising the piano accompaniment as an example of dexterity. The final piano coda is also a happy celebration from someone who has finally found consolation by means of these wise words and nice music. Intimacy phrases, technical perfection, and complete musical mastery were scarcely heard in Spanish pop then. It was ABBA N° 1 in Latin America in 1979 and the opening song of the group's success there since then.

🧡 ABBA! You young thing missed the experience of this era with MTV and VH-1. No home computers, no internet, no TH-cam. I'm happy to have TH-cam and these presentations now. Though the memories linger and are triggered with videos like this.
They were highly skilled in all aspects of musicology. Thus the great instrumentation, vocals, mixing, composition, et al. Benny was a great keyboard player as well as music writer. No surprise they were a lock for the rock and roll hall of fame in 2010.

I only know ABBA songs in Spanish because my parents had the CD in spanish growing up. I didn't even know they were originally in English until I was an adult. Bjorn can speak Spanish fluently (see interviews), but the girls were coached in Spanish phonetics to sing the songs, I don’t understand Spanish, but the results of all their Spanish tracks sound ravishing to me.

when ABBA premiered "Chiquitita" at the UNICEF Concert here, it was followed on television and "Chiquitita" was ABBA's first great success in Argentina
How it was also successful in Mexico and other Latin American countries ABBA decided to record it in Spanish
And the success was greater in the Hispanic American public, including Spain (there is that presentation, for the show "300 million")
The adaptation of the lyrics into Spanish was made by the Argentine brothers McCluscky
It is not an exact translation, in fact in the original third stanza (the first after the chorus) the adaptation in Spanish does not make it and repeats that of the first stanza
For this reason, part of the spirit of the song is lost And the effusive singing of the second chorus with the lyrics that precedes it remains a little misplaced.
This is not the fault of ABBA but of the person who did not complete the adaptation
ABBA already makes an extraordinary effort that I believe no other group of similar level did:
leave their mother tongue (which is also not English) and sing in several languages foreign to their culture and ideosyncracy, and do so with respect, professionalism and quality
From what I said before, prefer ABBA singing "Chiquitita" in English, but admit that they do it well in Spanish.

Your facial reactions during this vid were priceless. I really was curious to see how you’d respond particularly given your fluency in Spanish. There were times during the vid when it was evident by your smile and the way you lit up that you were feeling this song. If you haven’t already done a video for the Spanish version of Fernando I would love to see how you’d react to that. I’m sure you probably already know this, but, in case you don’t, they have an album of the hits they did in Spanish called “Gracias Por La Musica” which of course includes “Chiquitita”

Bjorn speaks perfect English as does benny the girls struggled with english at first but did master it agnetha had some hits in her early days with some German songs all on you tube ! .
The Spanish lyrics of the song are so well constructed that it seemed as if the whole song was originally made in Spanish. When Agnetha begins to sing it seems that Benny is creatively improvising the piano accompaniment as an example of dexterity. The final piano coda is also a happy celebration from someone who has finally found consolation by means of these wise words and nice music. Intimacy phrases, technical perfection, and complete musical mastery were scarcely heard in Spanish pop then. It was ABBA N° 1 in Latin America in 1979 and the opening song of the group's success there since then.

They were highly skilled in all aspects of musicology. Thus the great instrumentation, vocals, mixing, composition, et al. Benny was a great keyboard player as well as music writer. No surprise they were a lock for the rock and roll hall of fame in 2010.

I only know ABBA songs in Spanish because my parents had the CD in spanish growing up. I didn't even know they were originally in English until I was an adult. This song has a special place in my heart because my grandma used to sing it to me when I cried so I always get emotional listening to it now. I'm so happy you reacted to it. The vocals are in point!
