- Recently purchased in Texas at The Great Freedom Car Auctions Mopar Auction event, here's a 1962 Dodge Dart Police 4-door. It has solid outer body surfaces but some floor rust. It comes with brand new Auto Metal Direct floor pans and trunk floor. Also included is a Dodge 440, push button 727 Torqueflite, 8-3/4 Sure Grip and more. As a factory police car, its equipped with heavy duty suspension, 11-inch manual drum brakes, manual steering and a rare Leece-Neville high output alternator. It doesn't run but will make a great project for someone who digs real police cars and wants a unique machine. Check out my Project REM-Charger TH-cam videos for a closer look.

It may not directly be the medical bills per se. He might have had insurance cover most of it. However, he's not had regular income for 8 months and has a house that probably has a mortgage and of course all the other expenses that happen every month even if your sitting in a hospital room. Also, it's obvious he's not going to be working on his own cars for a while due to his continued recovery. So why keep these projects around that he wont ever get back to. The guy is an amazing wealth of information and knowledge. He will do alright, but just needs to reset at this stage of his life.

Keep up hope. I was a car guy/ mechanic for over 50 years. Thought I'd continue to do so upon retirement. But was diagnosed with ALS. All my plans down the drain. Prayers for you. 🙏🙏🙏

i can't watch this. i saw it in my feed and literally got sick to my stomach. steve's personal affairs are none of my business, and rightfully so i'm not privy to details, but if these are a forced sale it breaks my heart. this guy has given the industry and hobby so much.
5 years ago I had an accident involving me under a large dump truck. Throughout my recovery, I would look at the next step ans say to myself "This is MY new normal", good or bad, I'm still here, I'm sure going to make the best of it. Keep up the fight Steve, and make it your new normal.

Maybe they have already and I know he probably wouldn’t mention it, but I tend to think otherwise.
Keep in mind, Steve is employed by the channel that airs the show, not Barrett-Jackson. Although, I think they could certainly help, but as others have noted, they are not necessarily the jovial group we see at the auctions.

I can remember when Steve bought this car from the great Texas Mopar hord and now he has to sell it. These videos are very hard to watch because you're seeing firsthand how medical bills can destroy a person's livelihood. # 1 reason for filing bankruptcy in America??? No not credit card debt. Answer? Unpaid medical bills. 😪

yes, but think about the poor billionaires like the old govenor of FL who is a senator now rick scott who made his money by stealing from medicaid, how will the criminals get by if they had to actually work for a living.
Very true. However it might not all be medical expanses as he's not had regular income for over 8 months. A home mortgage continues even if your in the hospital and the expenses that come with owning a home. He might have had insurance pay for a good chunk of it (medical), but I would be up the creek if I had not worked in all those months. I would also be behind on monthly expenses. Financial advice suggests six months of expenses in an emergency fund in the bank, and Steve certainly was in the hospital longer than that. I don't even have a months worth of expenses amiable myself, and I suspect most Americans don't sadly..
Never pay them. They don't impact your credit.
pay them 50 bucks a month for life is better than an asset melt

Steve, please consider filing bankruptcy! Your situation is exactly what the program was developed for. Your not supposed to lose your home and every personal possession in order to recover from an illness or injury. Please don’t be too proud to file. At least consult a bankruptcy attorney please and get accurate info to make an educated decision. I’m a disabled Desert Storm Vet and did the same thing. It’s not like you went on a frivolous spending spree with your credit cards with no intentions of paying them. You did not plan on any of this. Please consider it.

Steve I’m truly grateful that you are getting better. It does break my heart that you have to sell your things. Being permanently disabled I can’t buy another car so I will just pray you get what you need for them and that you get better faster.
For all the years of automotive knowledge and countless hours of magazine material, I grew up in the car mag generation and clipped out articles and taped them on my wall. The least i could do is provide whatever i can to help out. Ive had to liquidate a few things along the way and like you said Steve, there is always the next chapter.

5 years ago, 2 years after I retired I had a major organ failure that led to a near death coma followed by an organ transplant. It was both a very low time and a time of elation for me, but that brush with near death changed my perspective on many things. As a result I have been selling and giving away many of my “treasures” - projects, tools, toys. I felt the need to not burden my wife with “stuff” in the event that I check out.
Like you, all my health issues left me seriously challenged and unable to do many of the things I did when I was younger. I felt that moving those things out of my life was appropriate.
I will caution you to be SURE before letting too much go. Your situation may very well improve, so don’t give up on yourself yet. You may also find that friends and TH-cam family become more supportive than you would imagine. Don’t be too hasty.

There's not one person commenting that knows what Steve is truly going through through. I believe that we shouldn't be labeling or passive judgements and just be super grateful that it didn't kill him-and here he is entertaining us onc again. I sincerely hope I didn't offend anyone, just like everyone else does-i was just posting my opinion. I am beyond elated to see Steve doing a very recent video. Hopefully there is a lot more to come!
