I setup a custom alert within Unifi Protect, having it notify a webhook. Created the webhook in Home Assistant and had it's automation unlock the door. It's pretty straight forward, but there is a slight delay from your fingerprint getting recognized to the door unlocking. Maybe in an update, the Unifi Protect device within HA will have a sensor for a positive fingerprint scan.
@@jetblast1212 I use the August Wi-Fi Smart Lock. It connects to Home Assistant, then the webhook triggers it through there. I like the August smart lock because I didn't have to change keys.
Why is Ubiquiti going to the camera tail on their new cameras? I always liked having the option of not using a junction box and just plugging the cable directly into the camera. It seems like adding the camera tail is going backwards. Are they worried about matching the other camera manufacturers?
Looks like they read my post in the past about sensor quality and fingerprint reader on the doorbell 😅 So now they are on the same level, with the 8MP camera sensor, like other companies. It woukd be nice if they went a step forward and bring 12 MP or 16MP because of that price, but for now it looks like they read the posts of the people in the community. 👍🏻 By the way nice video Cody as always and thanks for your time to show the new features!
@@MactelecomNetworksNot necessarily. ONVIF profile T brings PTZ support and motion detection and relies exclusively on the cameras built in detection capabilities. Currently, UniFi only support ONVIF profile S in Protect which is the most basic of profiles (I.e. streaming only). It wouldn't be any heavier of a load on whatever machine is running Protect to support Profile T. I’m fine with the AI port being what it is and bringing those exclusive UI function like LP reading and facial recognition, that needs UIs special hardware acceleration and software, but basic PTZ support and motion detection for ONVIF would move me and my Reolink cameras to Protect asap I would buy a UNVR Pro and 1-2 ports so my doorbell and driveway cams could have facial recognition and LP reading capabilities, while my 4 PTZ cameras on each side of my house would get PTZ support and motion detection, which is all I need them to do.
The vingerprint scanner is GREAT!! Intergrated also with HomeAssistant where it opens my DanaLock door. All done with a webhook. I use Node-Red in HomeAssistant and with the fingerprint_registered trigger I open my door. ( in node red use the webhook node) I could even do a double check where my fingerprint and mobile connect to my own WiFi is needed to open the door. Now me and my wife opening the door with our vingers so much fun and easy to use!
Looks like this release went official overnight. It also looks like Ubiquiti may be doing less with ONVIF now they have released the AI Port device, which works with third party cameras... Guess we will see how things go with that in future releases. Still, there are some nice new features in this release. The new AI Cameras are definitely welcomed. I can say the AI Turret selling really well. It has the same optics as the AI Bullet, but in that turret form factor which is often (arguably) more versatile. The AI Port is a good idea, though a bit expensive. Would pair really well if you had a few G5 Pro's that you needed AI Features on, without upgrading the entire camera.
Some excellent insight here. Agree 100%. I'm very interested to see how this works with the Empire version of the Dahua stuff (e.g. EMP-T54IR-Z3-1-2C). I love the Ubiquiti UI. That said, the inability to increase the shutter speed to prevent motion blur on the Ubi brand cams make them pretty useless at night, even with proper white light. Those Empires with proper config are tough to beat.
@@EsotericArctos I just found that about an hour before you posted. I'm going to give it a try. Still, I don't expect the performance to be as good as the cheaper Dahua cams. Hoping that the AI Port ends up being the solution.
I am still feeling that unifi is still dragging it's feet with RTSP and ONVIF.....so many support information sent on where they are not moving forward with this work. Not sure if it is a limitation to their code or their appetite. But for me it's a prosumer solution that is similar to eating a box of saltines without water.
The AI port sounds really cool. Would love to see it tested out with a G4 Doorbell Pro to see if LPR is remotely usable that way, as I'm planning to install one by the gate with an access gate hub. I realize the warping and resolution of the G4 Doorbell Pro may make that pretty finicky, so very curious
I've been waiting for an AI Dome camera and immediately ordered this, when it became available. It'll be delivered tomorrow. I'm curious, how it performs, since my last two dome cameras were from a different brand. I'm really interested to see, how face recognition works, as this is the first camera in my UniFi ecosystem which supports it.
That new AI LPR camera looks great! I'm a bit nervous about how high the price is going to be but if it's not too bad I'll be getting one asap. Also the new scanner abilities on the doorbell look good but, as you say, we need some sort of protect door lock to take advantage of it
It's going to be shit honestly. It has IR capability to 50 feet, which is weak sauce. I have a Hikvision LPR that will do IR over 300 feet with a 32x zoom compared to the 3x zoom of the AI LPR. It physically looks nice, but it's going to be expensive and it doesn't have the power it needs to be good at anything but very close range plate detection.
Home assistant isn’t required. Access door unlocking can all be done natively using the alarm manager in Protect 5.1. I have this working at home, finger unlock on doorbell opens corresponding door.
Awesome! Is it possible to set an alarm based on motion in a certain/particular motion zone? i.e not just a blanket motion event.. but say you've split your view into multiple zones?
I'd love to try these new features, but currently have an error ""UniFi detected a problem with your storage and is trying to recover recordings and configuration data." This is been for over 3 weeks and Ubiquiti have not been able to resolve it. Installed a new hard disk, formatted, restarted, all apps and OS up to date. Still get the same error. Any ideas?
For the AI port, do we know if it's just one camera or if it will support multiple cameras per AI port? Great videos! Very excited for the doorbell stuff.
@@liammcgarrigle Agree. I'd be very surprised if it was not one per camera. Still, I think that it will be the way to go. Unifi Protect interface is great, as is the AI on the G5 Pro. Image quality on Unifi cams? Not so much...
Will the AI Port make a G4 PTZ 4k do license plate recognition (LPR)? In other words can the ai port give ai features to unifi ai camera missing features like LPR (such as the G4 4k PTZ)? Thanks in advance!
I'm waiting for the G4 doorbell pro to be compatible with Access Viewer. It's insane that it isn't. Likewise, the fact that the doorbell can only ring one chime is crazy.
So instead of fixing our license plate recognition on AI cameras (for eg ai pro) they introduced another camera just for LPR??? LPR on AI cameras like AI PRO is the worst! It can read maybe 5 out of 100 cars and most of the time it reads wrong!!!
LPR is a very tricky thing and depends on a lot of factors including light, speed of vehicle , where the camera is positioned . I’ll do a text with both of them comparing
Good plate detection requires a dedicated LPR camera. For example, I have a $600 Hikvision LPR. It has 32x zoom and does IR to over 300 feet. I've read it can read plates on vehicles at up to 70 mph. I use it in a residential area, so I don't see those speeds. You achieve this by setting a very high shutter speed, like 1/1,000 or faster. At night you can only see the plate, the car and everything else is near black. You need that high shutter speed to freeze motion effectively and to offset the IR reflection off the plate.
@@fretbuzzly My main camera looking to a inner road which maximum speed can be like 5-10 mph. I can easily see plates and read them via camera feeds. Sometimes garbage truck or school busses passing by and instead of trying to read plates, it is reading huge texts on the vehicles like school name or municipality name on garbage truck. so it's the worst I've ever seen. Expect better from UI, and AI Pro cameras sales pitch / point is exactly this... face and license plate detection. That's why we bought it...
I have 5 G4 pros , and my neighbours truck was stolen just last week . The police came looking for people with cameras ,so I showed them my footage which has terrible video quality at night . I hope someday Ubiquity will address this , as night vision is appalling for 600 dollars . Maybe this new one may help, but I think they need a larger sensor . I’ve seen other manufacturers that can do it ,so why not Ubiquity. I may have to install large halogen spot lights on a motion sensor to get anything of significance
Spot on. The Ubi cams tend to hold a very slow shutter speed to preserve a brighter image. This creates a ton of motion blur, which greatly reduces the evidentiary value of any video captured. Unless something has changed recently, they don't let you manually adjust the shutter speed. I love the Unifi Protect AI. But the cameras themselves are really lagging. Looks like Dahua with AI port is going to be the way to go. Related note, I was a police detective before I retired and got into this industry. If even cheap cams are having issues with low light, lighting should be a higher priority in your security plan than cameras. Always way better to try and deter criminal activity than get video of it. I've testified in court on video, chain of custody, etc. The proceeds of the crime are always sold off by the time it gets to that point. At best, you are going to get $20/month in restitution for years.
