    How Roberts dream goes every night... Hes on his boat fishing in the woods for a 10 point buck, catches a wild boar on a fly rod, shoots a 1100lb tuna with a musket, hits a duck with his diamond bow, catches a gator on a top water plug, cuddles a family of opossums, and lassos a buffalo on 6lb test all before midnight.

    Don't throw those legs and wings away. They're the best parts. I skin the whole bird and fry the breasts in butter with lemon pepper. The legs, wings, and back go in the pot for soup, stew, or dumplings. I'm glad you enjoyed Kansas. You got more birds than I did, but I also had a great time in spite of the viscious weather.

    When I was a kid we skinned the birds and then gutted them. We utilized the whole bird. We usually kept the liver and gizzard as well. My Grandmother was a great cook.

    Rob, Sarah..love you guys. Im deployed to Afghanistan and love it when a new video drops. When i get wifi i download the latest videos to watch later. Dreaming of hanging on staniel cay and going on a hog hunt.....God Bless you. Stay humble and kind...those are the best qualities you show on a daily basis. Rare in today's entertainment and citizenry.

    Being able to hunt with trained dogs no one should ever take for granted, someone had to train them and when they’re on it’s a pleasure beyond description.

    Incredible, gonna try that recipe myself. Also that is the best/fastest way to clean a pheasant. Although, never knew that you could shoot the hens.
    Keep up the good work, and showing the full effect of hunting. So many people are misled nowadays. I've done it since I was old enough to walk, some never have or will. Unless given the opportunity to see all sides, and realize that it's not all blood and guts.
    Keep the tradition alive and keep American great and free. God bless our veterans.

    Hey Rob! Great people like yourself and Sarah don't spring from thin air. There was once a day when every American was a Rob and Sarah. Today, not so much. Sarah (and you) have a huge task raising those two little jewels into something similar to their mother (an American classic). Sorry Rob, but there are only a few Sarah(s) out there and millions of us ding dongs who can drag it home and cook it.
    Keep up the good work reminding all Americans everywhere of how life is thrived and not just lived. Tell us about your parents and grandparents and earlier if possible.
    Thanks for being a great American.
    "God Bless"

    I used to get stuck cleaning all the pheasant from my family’s thanksgiving hunt every year in Kansas as a kid. That was and still is the fastest way I’ve been shown to clean a bunch of birds, stand and pull. Clip the wings and give them to the dogs, then throw the rib cage with meat in the freezer! Looks fun!

    Just a tip for cooking dumplings is when you make the dough yourself you do not have to be shy with the flour. The flour is what helps to thicken the chicken stock. My momma taught me that and it does make a noticeable difference. Now with that being said, not evrryone likes a thicker stock with their dumplings so this is just a tip for those who do want a thicker gravy.

    Living the life a modern-day Robert Ruark ! I'm sure you're not old enough to remember reading his stuff in " Field and Stream " but his tales in "Old Man and The Boy " were the source of many of my early dreams . Your video ( contents, people and remarks ) remind me of those days . Keep them coming ! While my days of stomping thru weeds behind good dogs are now a memory you were hunting with some pretty good ones and nothing beats the joy exuding from a good dog doing what its bred to do !

    Pheasant & bacon baby. Food of Gods. Disappointed that they wasted so much of the bird. Try skinning the pheasant & cook the whole bird then remove the meat for your pheasant & dumplings. You will appreciate the extra effort in the finished dish. Just an observation. I try to use as much as possible of the animals I harvest.

    • @scottm5167
      @scottm5167 5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I agree, was a bit of a waste to just use the breasts. I'd save the breasts for to grill or roast, and pick the rest for the dumplings. The native American Indians are probably weeping in their graves with that one. Cool lodge and people though. Cooking skills were about a 4/10 lol. Would still eat readily and enjoy. Cool vid. That gsp was good but needs some work to let go, where the lab dropped at his feet. Gotta love labs!

    Getting up into the wind and not turning with the wind and going 0 to 70mph in 15 Ft , then when you shot that hen , and finally when he cleaned that rooster like a grouse . pen raised planted birds .
    but still a great looking time guys keep up the fun .

    I learned to hunt pheasant standing on the deck of a moving combine using a Browning 22 carbine and iron peep sights.if I missed when I hit the bird anywhere but they had other than that I got to eat prairie dog and everybody else got pheasant. Shore made for an accurate marksman. I think a dentist probably introduced shotguns to hunters.

    • @aurorawhorealis
      @aurorawhorealis 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually it's not just because it's easier to hit with the spread, it's because birdshot is incredibly light and isn't dangerous coming back down to the ground after being shot upwards. Bullets, even a .22, can do damage coming back down when shot up into the air, birdshot doesn't. It isn't just easier, it's safer.

    Thats exactly how I "peel" my birds! It works a treat for grouse and chukar as well, though I doubt it'd work with goose or turkey. It seems that as the birds get bigger, it gets harder and harder to do that. I bagged a Monster blue grouse a few years back, and nearly gave myself a hernia on that bad boy! All the ruffed grouse and chukar were quite easy, but not that big blue!

    Here in the UK we hang them for a few days, before cooking them. After plucking and gutting them of course. .
