An Ah ha experience for me! I think I’ve been rushing my return and not letting the ball ‘peak’ as you can see in your video. Waiting for the peak should allow me to place the return better. Would you say that’s a good guide to follow generally, wait for the ball to peak? I have a tendency of rushing to the ball and hitting it too quickly.
I always try to serve deep, but everyone once on a while it goes short but I won cause it surprised the returner. I also lose the point when it surprises me when I return. Is this just the good luck shot, or any tips to not get caught?
The pickleball channel did a video: Three Serves and Why You Need Them one of them one of them was the short corner shot just past the kitchen. th-cam.com/video/_lgkeru0nwg/w-d-xo.html Just don't use it very often, because if they are fast enough you it is an free invitation to the kitchen line. For the most part keep them back and try to catch them moving and not set.
I have been doing all 3 of your tips. Many people that I play against drive the ball back at me instead of using the 3rd shot drop. So, I'm not always ready at the NVZ yet and I wind up playing their game, which puts me in a more defensive position. Would you recommend returning the serve as a deep, almost a lob shot , to give myself that extra second to get set up at the NVZ?
Yes, whatever kind of return you need to do to get yourself to the kitchen before they hit it is the return you need to make. If that’s a higher/deeper return then yes. That’s the type of return I use against bangers that don’t try for 3rd drop shots, if I don’t and hit it hard in return I’ll get caught a few feet before I make it to NVZ line everytime
Playing at the NVZ line will give you the best chance to win each rally. If you are playing a lobber, then you can move back but staying back anticipating a lob is generally not the best strategy. Hope this helps.
I think this video is missing the most important part about the return, which is adjusting the speed of your return so that you make it to the kitchen right before they can hit the ball. If your older or slow for whatever reason, you’ll need to do a slow lob/deep return to allow you time to get up there. If your young and fast, a low deep quicker paced return is good, whatever you need to do to be at the line and settled before they hit the ball.
That is great advice Dave and a piece of the game that we are consistently teaching - particularly with players who are not running as fast as they may have once. It just did not make it into these 3 tips :). Thanks for sharing it.

Digging the new paddle. Love my Trident from Engage!
Like/appreciate the new format...less intro/outro music..much easier to go through when watching several in a row...
ALWAYS great content!
Thank you!
Ooopps! Only been playing a very short time and find I am guilty of tip no#3. Best change that next game.
I was getting jammed by advanced player today. He would serve it dead center of where I was standing. Now I see how to handle it better. Thanks

Hi Ann. Absolutely. Rushing is a common cause for error. Let the ball apex.
Volume is low and difficult to hear, even though my phone is at maximum volume
Apologies Charlotte. Our audio setup is much improved from then.

In2Pickle defuse the banger
Well I didn't mean to post that! I thought I was clicking on a link to defusing the banger video. Can you post a link please?

What if you move to the kitchen line ,and the opponent hits A lop >

@@BestPickleballCoach Thanks
Is that a rule, that receiving a serve that you have to be behind the line. Thank you
@@jalebjaba1487 there is no rule about where you stand on return of serve.

Audio problems
Hi Phil - what were the audio problems? Volume or static?
