The Paris opera has seen better times. What is the NBA doing there? To add to the American accent to the bass, probably. "Nose" tone of the performer. Cannot pronounce certain words and changes original text.
I have seen the show a few weeks ago. It’s actually good, even though this particular scene is not great. But definitely a good version that I would recommend. Don’t juge an entire show based on a single scene you dislike!

The bass is magnificent, but the staging leaves a LOT to be desired. I have no problem with contemporary versions of opera, but this was ridiculous. The staging had nothing to do with the plot, or with the words of the aria.

J'ai trouvé ce faust d'une grande vulgarité. Pas évident pour les chanteurs de devoir assumer les fantasmes des metteurs en scène.
