From Brooklyn Nine-Nine, the NBC series revolving around Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg), a New York City Police Department (NYPD) detective in Brooklyn's fictional 99th Precinct, who often comes into conflict with his commanding officer, the serious and stern Captain Raymond Holt (Andre Braugher). The series also stars Terry Crews as Sargeant Terry Jeffords, Melissa Fumero as Amy Santiago, Stephanie Beatriz as Rosa Diaz, Chelsea Peretti as Gina Linetti and Joe Lo Truglio as Charles Boyle.

Finding out that Stephanie‘s actual voice is waaay higher than Rosa‘s was a turning point in my life.
Her real voice sounds so wrong. She needs to make the change to Rosa.
@@aebalcI cant tell if this is a joke or not but she has talked about how annoying it is having people say this. Rosa is a character and Stephanie is a person. She creates character voices for the character.
@@lilac3266 I think it's a bit of a parasocial thing where people get attached to the character, and because Character + Actor are basically twins, it's hard to tell them apart sometimes. I sincerely hope it's a joke. As a joke it's funny. If it's serious it's not cool.
Stephanie has range, so serious range, her voices change so much from show to show along with her character, but her actual character is a fun loving and more of soft centered

I remember Stephanie’s interview during a podcast where she said that the Rosa voice wasn’t planned in advance due to her straining her voice before the audition. Due to her getting the part, Stephanie had to find that Rosa voice for the character during the show

Is that Quiet from Twisted Metal?
She spoke on this. She went to the audition after working out and being sick, so she had a deeper, raspier voice. When she got the job, she used her normal voice. After a little while, producers asked her what happened, and told her to go back to the voice she used during her audition.

3:16 the voice acting here is incredible. Shes speaking in her normal voice, but still pretending to be doing a fake voice and the Rosa voice cracks through her normal voice.

I had totally forgotten that she talked liked that early on in the show. Saw her in something else and she sounded more like the beginning of this video and was surprised

Incredible voice acting detail here. She starts screaming in her Rosa voice but the scream shifts into her real voice 3:26
It's really fun to see how Stephanie slowly grew into the character and "shaped" Rosa's voice. Her vocal range is absurd. Funny that she was originally cast to play Luisa in _Encanto_ because of her Brooklyn Nine-Nine reputation, but they found out how soft her voice could be and put her as Mirabel.

She was also in the movie adaptation of the In The Heights musical, her range is insane!

No exaggeration, I've rewatched B99 over a dozen times and STILL find it hilarious. I noticed Rosa's voice change from day one but that's the beauty of pilots, it's seeing the actors go from what's on the page to finding their own ways to make the character unique.

They cast her as batwoman in a somewhat recent movie. It was fun, nothing special.
I know the deep voice is the one everyone is familiar with, but her light voice has an incredible cuteness to it.

Started rewatching 99 the other day and the Season 1 Rosa voice takes a bit of time getting used to. Much prefer the deeper voice, which makes it funnier when her real voice comes out. Awesome actress though!

It's hilarious that she tried auditioning for the role of Amy initially, can't picture her as anyone else other than Rosa, and she's an absolute fox.
Seeing this is incredible, it was so gradual over the course of the show that I never even noticed. But watching this back, the first clips sounded completely different. She really does have impressive vocal range
I work with someone like Rosa, the wonderful thing about people like them is that they come off Broody and mean, but in reality they're the most loyal and good-natured people you'll meet.
All of Stephanie's voices are like her "real" voice, that's how good she is. On the other hand, I keep thinking about that Theranos lady and how i cringed from the first time i heard her speak. 💀
I never noticed the voice change. It was gradual enough, to me, that it just became normal...and awesome. And plenty of shows have had characters find their voice, both literal and figurative. Also, I freaked out a little bit the Stephanie was on the Pistol Shrimp's dance squad.
Yeah. It's something that creeps in and you don't notice till you go back. Like watching Season 1 of a cartoon show before the voice actors got into their groove.

yeah rosas change is really under the radar. I remember when they changed Captain Holts voice in the German Dub and made captain holt sound like Amys Dad. That was the worst
I watched the entire series and never noticed a change. Then when I went back to the beginning to rewatch I was SHOCKED at how high her voice was

I started rewatching the show and I was surprised how deep her voice was. As the show goes on it seems more natural for her character

Every time I hear her speak in interviews her voice is so crazy high pitched it almost hurts my ears because of how accustomed to her deep B99 voice I became.
I think you have it backwards. The deeper her voice gets, the farther she is moving from her actual voice.

2:05 I just realized that they were hinting at her sexuality way back in the beginning of the show still
I'm betting a lot of this gradual change in vocal pitch was because she got so much practice over the course of the show. Vocal chords are muscles and the more you work them the better control you have and the easier it is to hit pitches that previously were at the very end of your range. I'm sure it was really difficult and painful at first to go that deep and still emote but the increase in her vocal range probably did wonders for her voice acting career. It's certainly paying off with her role as Vaggie in Hazbin Hotel!
