First i totally agree with this entire review... With that said i want to say a huge thank you for your insights on the DW. I much appreciate your insight and knowledge in regard to the DW. Not many folks here in Spokane WA, USA, play death watch yet I do. It's refreshing to have a channel that breaks down the good and the bad. Your awesome! HP
Thank you so much for the kind feedback. Deathwatch is an amazing army, and I'm always happy to share some content. Now that you mentioned WA, I don't recall having covered a tournament in your area with major Deathwatch attendance yet, so it seems that you folks over there could do with some reinforcements!
@@SwissHammer Yup, as phobos units fans this army of renown is quite lame. At least make you can take invictor as unit of 3 and more stratgem to sharpen phobos units
@@RevanR Yeah, I like the Phobos units as well, would have been great to get some decent (DW) rules alongside them! Can't get myself to run more than one Spectrus KT in a regular list.

Wait are you fussing over the DW not getting an AoR after getting an AoR that's specifically for them? This is some Drukhari Facebook group levels of complaining tbh and I expect better of you Temor. We do not need everything that first founding chapters get and from the very start the Phobos AoR was woefully underwhelming to me and most of the competitive community.
Yes, because with 9th edition, Deathwatch got their integration into the SM codex. We are no longer a standalone. As such, I would expect full rules support for a generic Space Marines Army of Renown. While it is true that we did get a dedicated (and very good one at that) AoR not long ago, it is by no means obvious that other SM chapters will not get the same eventually. My guess is as good as yours in regard to how long 9th edition will still run, but I doubt we have seen the last of these Warzone book releases by far. To me, this is a matter of lazy rules writing more than anything else. With that being said, I think that proper rules + DW support would have gone a long way for this Phobos AoR, and SM need a bit of that at this point.
@@SwissHammer while we were rolled in to the SM codex we are not a actual chapter and thus aren't privy to the things they get. As a matter of fact we literally get the leftovers and scraps from them in lore and not much else. I think people are taking it too literally that we are in the SM codex and think we should get what they(actual chapters) do which simply has never been the case ever since we were just a unit they could take instead of a full fledged army. We aren't UM, IH, WS or BA and never will be nor get what they do. This AoR was a nod to "real" chapters and we got excluded simply due to just getting one withing the last 3 months or so. It wouldn't be fair to ANY other faction if we had access to 2 while literally everyone else that has 1 only get s access to that 1 and nothing else as of yet. I totally agree with the decision to exclude DW from this totally lackluster attempt at selling more Phobos units.
@@cyeneic To me, having been rolled into the SM codex in 9th is entirely a rules-related decision. What has been in the past or what the lore says is secondary at that point, sure, we can try to "explain away" such a decision, but in the end it's a rulebook. As such, I expect them to be consistent about following it through. With the release schedule of an edition being what it is, some armies get more rules faster, others don't even have a codex yet. The important part is what happens over time. As I said, I fully expect more SM chapter specific AoRs, but of course at this point this is my speculation more than anything else.
@@SwissHammer we are not a chapter and do not get what they get. Just because we got put in the SM codex doesn't undo everything and anything we have known about DW and how it operates. The AoR is trash and to be frank we shouldn't have had access to it to begin with. You're entirely too hung up on us being in the SM codex instead of focusing on how to better your own play without new shinies from GW. You've lost a sub and fan with this nonsense. You disappointed me in a way I never thought you would.

I think its open secret that Spearheaded Vanguard Army of Renown is GW's scheme to sell that Phobos combat patrol
Agreed, but they could at least have TRIED to make it a bit less obvious!

May still be fun as Wolf spears in Casual play.

DW is now part of the SM codex so at least we won't get excluded as they drop stuff for SM at least >> GW: I'm gonna stop you there chief...
Exactly my thoughts!
Tried an infantry only AoR, didn't work out well against a meta blood angels army, going to try double corvus blackstars next.
Sounds nasty, were you melee or ranged focused? Looking forward to hearing about your double Corvus results! Tempted to build another myself...

I think its silly that VANGUARD VETERANS arent allowed in the VANGUARD spearhead army of renown... Lord knows the list needs a little punchy power.
Absolutely, I think they did absolutely everything wrong with this AoR.
That really sucks, can't really see anyone using it competitively. Even in casual games i think it would struggle
Unfortunately, that seems to be the case...
