    Hocking Hills State Park has 6 hiking areas and I had a goal to hike each one during my 3 day trip to the area. This day I hiked 12 Miles through Hocking Hills! I started on the Gorge Rim Trail from the Hocking Hills Campground to Cedar Falls. From there I took the Buckeye Trail to Ash Cave. This is also the Grandma Gatewood Trail. I hiked that section back to the Cedar Falls trail head then took the Buckeye Trail to the Whispering Cave Trail and completed that l Coop to Whispering Cave then the Visitor Center before ending the day back at the Hocking Hills Campground at my camp site! Ohhhhh was it a big day!

    I started my full time travel journey at the start of 2020 when I quit my job. My plan was to travel the world, but my timing was horrible. I decided to stay closer to home and explore the US. That decision promopted me to build out my Ford Transit van and travel to 50 National Parks and I'm currently working on all 50 states. My goal is to get to all 50 states within a single year! Thanks for joining me along the way!

    We did Rock House which was more strenuous than we heard, but Ash Cave was more easy and so cool to see!!!

    We did part of the Grandma Gatewood trail today. Only part, because I watched this video first! I knew we couldn’t do 12 miles, because we are so out of shape. 😀 We did Old Man’s Cave to Hemlock Bridge to Whisper Cave and back to the visitor’s center. Drove to Cedar Falls and did that short hike. 6 miles total and that was plenty for one day!

    I can’t believe you hiked so many miles and didn’t complain about your feet! Please share what boots/shoes you wear! Thank you.

      I wear Altra Lone Peak trail runners. They are very wide which helps a bunch, but I think the best thing is good socks. I always wear thick wool socks or double up and that helps so much!

    I grew up in Gallia County, Ohio everybody loved Grandma Gatewood. She led a hike for my Girl Scout troop MANY years ago! That was one tough ole lady just a tremendous inspiration to all of us girls and she kicked our young butts up and down those hills!!! The 4 lane highway (35) came through and interrupted her trails in Gallia County! It’s so fitting that they honored her with a trail in Hocking Hills State Park!!!

      How cool that she led a hike for your group!! That's a great story! I know a lot of hikers still talk about how tough she is. I'm happy its a trail that almost every person hikes while at the park. It was my first trip to Hocking Hills since I was a kid and I loved it! It was just over a 3 hour drive for me so I've already started making plans to go back!

    My son lives in Ashley and we've heard how pretty Hocking Hills is. I'd love to go there, but my husband is disabled and we'd never be able to walk those trails. Thanks for sharing.

    Great video, very helpful! I’m going to Hocking Hills end of April. What type of footwear are you wearing? I’m thinking about wearing trail(running) shoes. TY

    • @LauraOnTheMove
      @LauraOnTheMove  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      April will be such a beautiful time to be there! Spring will be in full swing and lots of water at the waterfalls! I use trail runners! I love them because if they get wet they dry vey fast and they have great grip. I find hiking boots heavy and over the top. Some people have concern for ankle support. I don't think its an issue with short hikes, but they do make high top trail running shoes if that's a concern.
