Hocking Hills is my favorite place to visit in the Buckeye State. In January, there is the Annual Winter Hike, and it is always a fantastic event, with a couple of thousand hikers, and no strangers. My home is in West Virginia, and when I visit, my Heart is fully there.
This place is magic in the winter. Great video... I felt like this captured exactly how wonderful it is there. Robby, my brain does the same thing everytime. It's just so massive I don't think my brain has the ability to comprehend it all at once... It's like overload. Earlier in the winter my wife and I were there and the tower was only about six ft high, I can't believe how tall it gets! I've even heard that the ice has connected to the river above before. While we were there someone also had their dog, except this guy had a dog sled and the dog was pulling him back to the parking lot, lol. It was slightly strange... but the dog seemed happy. Again great video! Very enjoyable to watch. Can't wait for more... especially full episodes :-)
Brian Lucas Yeah, it really is pretty amazing in the winter. We went once before and I think at Cantwell Cliffs there's a similar ice tower, but no where near as huge as this one. Hahaha, and that sounds like my kind of dog, would love to have one like that. Next full video coming at the end of this month. We just started editing it, so just a bit longer! Thanks for watching :) -Robby
Deranged Survival Thanks for watching! Glad you found it peaceful. I always look for good stuff to watch while i fall asleep, haha, maybe I should try this out. --Andrew
Wow...at the 7:00 mark, the ice tower looks like a profile shot of an overweight bearded guy facing the cliff with his arms crossed. Totally cool! Great video, as usual, guys! Keep up the good work!

Amazing place. Very beautiful!!! Thanks for sharing
Márcio Floripa Definitely an incredible place! It's so magical, and it made me realize how passionate I was about nature when I first went there. Thank you so much for watching! -Andrew
Gorgeous park and I think hikers should not shun the winter season for truly the landscapes one thinks they know so well are suddenly transformed into a completely different scenery which is oft times so idyllic. BTW, the scene around the 6:35 mark is absolutely gorgeous. Well done.
I was hoping for rock house during this video....I love Hocking. Of the 67 National Parks and Forests I've visited and hiked across the country, Hocking is still one of my favorite places!
Such a great place in the winter. If you are looking for a good off the beaten path place to explore check out Crane Hollow just east of Conkle's Hollow (state forest part of course. If you go too far north in the hollow it becomes a private nature preserve). It's a really cool spot I was exploring last weekend.
Very nice, we've been to hocking hills countless times but always go to the same places hahaha. If we go back we'll definitely check it out. Thanks for watching :) -Robby
The most beautiful place in Ohio, camped there more than a few times and I have got to check it out in the snowy Winter too. Thank's again for sharing your wonderful videos with us! Have Fun! Be Safe! Take Care!
Nice video as usual, guys! My buddy and I did day-hikes at Hocking Hills in September 2014, followed by a couple of days of backpacking at Zaleski State Park. You're right about the size of Ash Cave -- I was overwhelmed by the sheer size of the cave. Unfortunately, last summer must have been very warm, because when we were there in September, all of the waterfalls were non-existent and the water levels in the rivers and pools were very low or completely dried up. As impressive as the sights were, they would have been even more spectacular with large volumes of flowing water. The park looks amazing during the winter. Thanks for sharing.
Great Lakes Backpacker Oh, very nice! Yeah, that cave is just massive. And you may have missed out on the ice tower, but on the bright side that day was ridiculously cold! Just brutal. So you were spared that at least. Thanks a bunch for watching, stay tuned for more. -Robby
Wow... just stumbled onto your video. Very nicely done. And your right - winter here in the hills is beautiful which I think is the most scenic. However, for a completely different atmosphere... come in the spring. The echo of the falls is so loud you can't hear yourself think! I live just down the road from Conkle's Hollow.
Visited all the parks in the hocking hills 2 or 3 times a summer during the 60s and 70s and loved it. Went back about 10 years ago and it was just overrun with littering, entitled humans. I prefer cherishing my memories to going back to the new reality. I've never seen it in winter thank you for this.
Thank you for an amazing video. I hate myself for missing this place when I lived in Athens for 2-years doing MS in Ohio U during 1991-93 :-(. The place looks like a fairy tale location in your very well made video.
Great showcase of this Ohio state park and it’s beauty. As a Columbus local, I’ve only seen Cedar Falls and Old Man’s Cave. I’m gonna have to wait till late December to see that astonishing ice tower! Where is that slippery staircase? I would like to slide down it you did.
Very cool spot. It's truly spectacular, especially in winter. Thanks for showing it to us. Now that it's warming up, I'm looking forward to more camping videos, guys.
Wordsmyth8 Thanks for watching! It's a really beautiful place indeed. Haha, we've got a bunch of side videos that we need to put together, and we've begun editing the next episode, which should be out at the end of this month. Should be a good one hopefully! --Andrew
Thanks for showing a real appreciation for nature and the outdoors, and for being such good friends among yourselves. Your video techniques are creative and beautiful. Wish I had friends like you out here in CA.
+Be_content Thank you so much for watching, and glad you liked the videos! I suppose it is rare to come across good friends like this (though Robby is also my cousin so that probably helps). But if there's any place to forge a strong friendship, it'd be out in the wilderness I say. Thanks again for watching :) -Andrew
You know they have a winter hike I believe in January. Hiked it twice! Once it was (O) degrees plus wind chill. Great hike!!! But the way you did it you had the park nearly to your self!
+Lee Grubb Ahh yeah, I think I have heard of that. Sounds fantastic, did you also go to Ash Cave, or other areas of the park? Yeah, the day we filmed this was so fantastic. It was fairly empty, and it had just snowed a lot. Thanks so much for watching and commenting! Cheers :) -Andrew
It was a called a five mile hike! About 2.5 half way. They Had bean soup and corn bread! Then 2.5 mile for the second half. We did the Old Man Cave I believe. If I get back down I'm looking up the Ash Cave! It looked beautiful! Thanks for taking US along!!!
This reminds me of going to the Seven Falls near Colorado Springs in winter. Unfortunately most of the parks around here require an entrance fee :[ However if you go during winter the prices are usually lower because there are not so many tourists around here that time of year. The waterfalls make crazy ice shapes, it's cool.
This is one of my favorite places in Ohio! You guys really outdid yourselves with this beautifully shot video. Great work!!! I hope to hike with you guys one day.
I loved that giant ice sculpture/stalagmite. That was certainly the highlight of the venture for me. I liked your close-ups of it. First time I've seen something like that. Is that large overhand what you call the cave?
YorkWoodsman For sure! Although I will say that Hocking Hills doesn't have backpacking in the park itself. But there are some pretty nice places nearby at state forests and Wayne National Forest. If you do plan one, let us know and we can help plan!
Beautiful video guys. I live in Perth, Western Australia and we literally never get snow, and watching this winter wonderland makes me very jealous! At least I get to enjoy it through your trip.
So glad you enjoyed it and that we could at least give you a glimpse of what it's like in the snow. We try not to take it for granted and curse it when it gets really cold and never ends. Thanks for watching :) -Robby
+Caden Myers That would be awesome! We've been thinking of doing a meet-up somewhere in Ohio sometime soon. No details yet, but keep an eye out for that, because it'd be awesome to meet other Ohioans. You must get some incredible photos at Hocking Hills. Thanks for watching! -Andrew
I came across your video while I was working on a recent shoot I did at the park in the winter. I had almost finished my edit and its kinda funny how similar it was to what I had made
Sir Dan - can't reply to your comment, but I see your account picture is from here! haha. Yeah, it's a really beautiful place to visit. We are considering heading back there some time - If we do, I'll send you a message. --Andrew
laughter95 Not sure if my reply posted the first time, but it's not our car I'm afraid, haha. It was a lady who was photographing the scenery, actually. We saw her on the way back up from that first area. And I agree, it's an amazing place. Have you been? Thanks for watching! --Andrew
No, I haven't, being from the DC area. Closest I've come to where you are is Dolly Sods, for hiking. I was in Kent and Cincinnati for work though. If you guys are ever up for it, let's meet up for an overnighter.
YouADamnWitch It's funny, we've been there so many times, and we went there a few summers ago and I felt like I was getting tired of it. I think partly because you can't backpack there and you're technically supposed to stay on the trail I believe. But I still enjoy visiting in the winter, when it's quieter. It'd been a while since I was last there too when we filmed this, I think. --Andrew
AdventureArchives I think my girlfriend built it up too much for me. She and friends went there a lot back in her OU days. Sadly I didn't have the fond college memories of it. There were also a crap load of kids there the day I went. I did like that the park was lousy with blueberries, I'll have to try the fishing too next time.

Another great video guys. Calm soothing and peaceful. A perfect video to watch right before bed, good night.

Absolutely! It's such a beautiful place, and winter just completely changes the scenery. Thank you so much for watching :) -Andrew
I hate winter, but for some reason, I've always wanted to go to Hocking Hills during the winter. I've been there in the summer and it is amazing.
Love all ur videos guys hope u visit the Philippines, we have lots great hiking trails n mountains here, take care n more great adventures

That place looks really cool in the snow. I went there as a kid. I plan on taking the family there this year.
Rob Marley Sounds like a good time. And just in time for some nice spring scenery. Hope your trip goes well! --Andrew

A time lapse of that ice tower forming would be cool.
For sure. I wonder how long it takes for that to form. Thanks for watching :)
Winter wasnt coming....IT WAS ALREADY HERE!
Thank you for an amazing video. I hate myself for missing this place when I lived in Athens for 2-years doing MS in Ohio U during 1991-93 :-(. The place looks like a fairy tale location in your very well made video.
