- #skatersover50 #skateordie #genx So STOKED to setup my new SKATEBOARD! The 80's were a time for big hair loud punk rock music and big skateboards. Thrashin was the movie and Thrasher was the Mag! They say money can't buy happiness, but it can buy your childhood skateboard! John Lucero is an absolute legend and skateboard hall of fame member among many other things. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did. Well maybe not that much unless you find a slice of your own childhood!
If you did or you're still looking, COMMENT DOWN BELOW! 👇
If you're an older skater and you find yourself longing to ride a skateboard again you should absolutely do it! Stop caring about what other people think because the truth is nobody cares. But I want you to care about your happiness, mental and physical health, KEEP SHREDDING!! ❤️🛹🤘
Welcome to my journey It hasn't been easy and life has a way of getting in the way. But I pushed through all the BS and shed 70 pounds and have been progressing at a steady rate. There has also been injuries most I've bested, but some I'm still working through. It's a reality of skateboarding that you'll need to be comfortable with. Safety gear and skating within your limits can really help mitigate the risk but it's danger is never completely gone. I'm so excited to take you all along on this journey and I hope it inspires you to get back on your board. Please join me, like, subscribe and stay tuned for more skateboarding! It's been a long time off the board and I just wanted to share my experience for anyone looking to get back into skateboarding or even if you're new to it. I've missed skateboarding so much and after weight gain among other life issues skating just took a far back seat. Well my friends the time for regret is over because I'm back and loving it. I'm just a little bit older and heavier but with a healthy diet, exercise and skateboarding back in my life the pounds are melting off and flexibility and strength are coming back. Let's connect in the comments! 😊❤️🛹

Im riding the same set of Bones swiss ceramics for 25 years. I just clean and dry lube and they are still going. I have replaced every part 10+ times and the same bearings the whole time. Burnside ripper for almost 25 years.
That’s so rad! KEEP SHREDDING!🔥🛹🤘
I like the 80s block style grip tape on my board. I like seeing the graphic or logo on the grip side. All black is pretty cool too though.
I’ve been riding Black Label since the beginning. I have a Red Cross and the new Street Thing myself. Just like the ones I had in ‘88.
Like this deck. Use bones reds and normally mob cos it keeps its grippyness
Man I always thought MOB was super grippy, especially when it’s new. Jessup is a little less grippy brand new in my opinion. Jessup does wear down faster that’s for sure. I can remember replacing grip tape before boards back in the day. Not doing that now though!😂❤
Nice board man. Love the throwbacks. We're probably about the same age, started skating mid-80s and still skate about 3x/week when I can. I was just skating the Kessler park in Manhattan yesterday...although most of the time it's slappy's... Don't bounce off the cement when I fall like I did years ago.
Yeah man it’s sick. Thats dope bro Kessler was such a legend!❤
Cool video! Very nice setup! 🤘🏻 I buy a foot or 2 of clear grip tape to put it only across of any top graphic (logo, specs, etc.), no crazy design, the rest is all black. I like MOB and Bones Reds are more than enough for this 48er.
Thanks man! I was seriously considering doing that. This deck has a really cool top graphic it’s temping.
I do that when screwing on my wheels too. Nice set up!!
😂❤
I ride Shake Junt bearings. I also like Modus hardware.
I remember doing designs, but lately, I've only split the tape to show the top graphic. Just got a Welinder street in and I ordered clear tape over the natural color and thinking I might add some stickers I like to it underneath the tape.
@@corybrown9933 That would be sick! I did consider doing the split for mine such a rad top graphic. Still thinking about it but I gotta get a piece of clear cause it’s a big design. And yes stickers as well! Rad comment!🔥
room looking cozy! I had the OJ hardline for the longest time too. just switched to the Andy nano cubics (only on my 8.75 board though). On my daily 8.38 I got the bones x formula 52mm. setting up a board is so satisfying
Hell yes! Thanks brotha ❤🤘
Love your content brother!
Keep the good work up :) 🔥❤
What I did with my tape is I got the 10” clear Mob, then made cardboard stencils. I hit it with black spray paint, pull off the stencils and that way the top graphic shows through. I tried w/o painting it and it just got dirty fast.
What a sweet set up. Man I've found that Madrid grip is the best, in my opinion anyway.. I used it all though the 90's and still swear by it today
@@deadbeatjack2584 Man I’ve never seen or tried Madrid grip! Maybe I’m missing out? Thanks bro!🔥🛹🤘
I ride a mix of nameless and Dusters Bearings
I have one board setup with 78a wheels that I use for just cruising around my neighborhood, I notice the difference between the Swiss and the reds when cruising around, but when using the board for tricks and skating curbs, either one works just as well
We always had to ride hand me down roach decks that were still rideable after people upgraded.
@@analogalchemy Man I wouldn’t have skated if it hadn’t been for all the older cats and my friends. Not gonna lie, buying skate gear was the main motivation for getting my work permit at 15!😂😂🤘🔥😎
Love your vibe man~ 47 here ( after 34 years off) and looking at the Lucero Street Thing. Mostly for transition and bowls...Thinking that 9.88 will be killer.
Have you ridden that deck yet?
Much luv from Australia man... keep shredding
You should try to get ahold of original formula OJs if you can find them. I haven't tried the newer versions, but the first generation Slimeball reissues skated exactly like the old OJII formula that I remember.
@@3rdandbroadway680 Yeah I think that’s the OJ super juice nowadays. Idk man I remember mine were super soft 92a maybe and pink. My mentor actually gave me harder wheels because I couldn’t learn how to slide. 97a bullet 66’s yellow they were probably 55mm when I got’em but man did they slide!❤️🛹
so a normal skateboard is a generic popsicle deck? the best way to evaluate bearings is putting them side by side ? bronson ceramics are made of better stuff. they get better the more you use them. bearings arent meant to be disposable but cheap reds bearings get pitted and rusty. ceramic balls stay smoother and retain the shape. ceramic is also harder than steel. has a higher heat tolerance. if you try them you will know where your money went
@@chrhadden Yeah I’d say normal is popsicle since it served as the peak of deck evolution which became the shape progressive skateboarding stuck with give or take the occasional double kick. Boards used to be all kinds of wacky shapes when I was a young lad. That’s just part of young skateboardings roots. Nowadays there really is no “normal” you can do whatever it is you want. Pretty cool freedom in that.❤️🛹🧙🏽♂️
@@scott.skates i started in 85 . i remember when popsicles first came out and all of a sudden everybody was a skater except they just stood in a circle trying kickflips. you are right though we have our freedom and thats one of the best thing . individuality. so if everybody wants to conform they are free to. i dont want a knife with 2 of the same blades personally. im 50 so i want a bigger deck too lol
