It seems to have worked in this case, but you should jump 30 and 87 if you are jumping a relay. 30 is load supply voltage (from battery) and 87 is output (to lights). 85 and 86 are the control pins, which use small wires and are not designed for high current load. The DRL didn't overload the small control wire but jumping 86 to 87 in other locations could cause a problem.

Your video was very helpful it saved me a lot of time from troubleshooting. My lights were not coming on and I thought there was something wrong. When I jumpered the relay it came on which means my DRL were working. Thank you.

It's not too dark... TheDRL doesn't come on if the vehicle is in Park or if the park brake is applied. It's in the owner's manual and I tested that theory by simply getting someone to stand in front of the truck and watch for them as I held the brake and put it in gear... They came on... And turned off as soon as I put it back in park

Yes, this worked for us as well. We even tested ours at night after a new socket and bulb install; I shined a bright flashlight on the DRL sensor on the dash.

Still working on this subject myself. Most of everyone is saying the ambient light sensor is the issue if no power to the socket. So that's where I'm at now.

There is an alternative I believe to be easier. Shine a bright light onto the ambient light sensor (black dome) on the dash. If auto headlights are already on, force them off by turning light switch counterclockwise to the circle. With the light shining into ambient light sensor. Put the truck in neutral. It will trick the car into switching DRL lights on.

This video gave me the info to track down the problem and it helped me understand the relays and fuses with the jumper from 87 to 86, the ones on the left side of the DRL relay. Good job!!

Update. It didn't work but its because the plugs are all jacked up from dry rot. One of them came apart when I took the bulb out and the other was wet on the inside (03 Sierra).
I'm thinking about replacing the plugs and using the LEDs like you did.
Thanks again for the video. This is what TH-cam does best!!

If you are by yourself, the simplest and safest way is to park in front of a store with windows and keep the truck in drive and look at the reflection. But...if you do not want to do that and you are by yourself here is how I did it at home. First, you cannot check them with the vehicle in park or if you have the parking brake on, they will not come on. Also, if you are in the shade your DRls will not come on. I blocked both front wheels with jack stands turned on their side to keep the truck from going forward when in drive. I had my truck inside a carport with poor lighting so I put a flashlight on the dash sensor (middle of the dash) and put the truck in drive with it idling. (note, the dash sensor has a delay so it might not sense the flashlight right away but give it a few seconds and you will hear a click) Now you can walk around and see if your lights are working or not.

The DRL's on GM trucks come on when in any gear except "Park" ( DRN321) you can also get The DRL & Reverse bulbs to pop on if the truck is off by using unlock on your key fob if you still have one. I don't know why all these other crazy methods are being used🤦🏾‍♂️ I mean I get it if your trying for the DRL's & turn signals to either always be on or operate together. But for purposes of replacing a bulb and making sure polarity is correct, truck in any gear (Level ground if you gotta use Neutral and like mine the stupid E-brake isn't working correctly) or unlock on key fob....

  • @Thatswiftieofc13

DMD LTZ already posted this but i just confirmed it, DRLs will come on in any gear but park, so here's what to do start the vehicle, make sure its on level ground, chock the tires, set the emergency brake, and put it in neutral and have someone else check the lights if you can

Not that i can find. i was needing the circuit energized so i could get led lights polarity right. only other way is parking brake off and truck in drive with enough ambient light so the headlights dont come on the DRLs come on during "daylight" only. but you need 2 people to do that option.

    • @BoweryPenguin8

if your DRLs only come on with a jumper and your lights are on automatic you have a bad ambient light sensor. mine was bad a couple years ago

Can anyone explain to me the headlight switch on a 2001 Silverado. Since I’ve got it I keep it on the left option with the circle whatever that is maybe auto headlights? What are the two lights facing each other at the 10:00 position do? Lastly what is the 12:00 position with the single bulb. I found that if I double click the dome override turns off the lights. Please help nothing online explains it

    • @shadow8479
      @shadow8479 ปีที่แล้ว +1

9:00 position - uses auto headlights, 10:00 position turns on your parking lights, 12:00 position turns on all your lights (headlights, parking lights). Dome Over-ride will make it so the interior lights dont come on when you open the door.
