Seeing these performances makes it all the more sad to see where he is now vocally. He may never have been the most technical singer but he had a hugely charismatic and emotive singing voice.
With all the videos lately taking (what seems to be) joy in his vocal struggles, it's nice to see a video that celebrates just how good he was at his peak. I'm not a big 80s fan, but this is one of the best voices in rock history. It's amazing because of the lack of technique -- some of this stuff shouldn't be possible.

As a 0.001% Bon Jovi listener on Spotify and a vocalist in an aspiring rock band, I really appreciate this video: the 1994 Howard Stern Show performance of Always is something that I forgot on my list to analyze how Jon approaches the chorus(was usually referencing the Wembley shows and the Tonight Show with Jay Leno one) My personal favorite of Prayer is the 1986 Worcester one where he has a cool arrangement in the end that goes higher, and also pretty much every Dry County performance. As you said, JBJ isn't known for 'technical' singing and his voice decline maybe remarkable these days, but he's the only one who got me through my first ever depression in life(covid), inspired me to start a rock band and try for a career in music. Thanks for the video, I've really enjoyed it.
1992 was Jon's peak vocally. He had the range, rasp, growl all in one. You can really tell how Bob Rock pushed him on this record to sing aggressively. By 1995 on These Days, he sounded thin and nasally, though he sang ridiculously high still but nothing compared to 1992.

Yes agree with you and everyone has to remember richie left on his own accord and half way through a tour which in my eyes was totally unacceptable he didnt spare a thought for the other members of the band and for fans who had paid for tickets quite sad he only thought of himself
Those are all excellent performances but it is an understatement and difficult to consider only 10. I suggest you listen to the concert in tampa 1995 on the hAnD90 channel, I think it is one of the best concerts in history

Yes I would say that I was there my first bon jovi concert ant they were fantastic I didnt knowwhatt to expect but the atmosphere was fantastic remember holding a light on long before mobile phones were all the age
"Not a technical singer".....I've been checking out Bon Jovi videos due to Jon's vocsl issues.....I've heard this phrase repeated a lot "not a technical singer"......I've no idea what that means?
It usually means the proper use of the technical aspects of singing, i.e. breathing, structure, placement and projection. It’s hard to explain but it’s like playing tennis - anyone can hit a ball. But when you get a coach, you might think more consciously about the way you hit the ball. Anyone can open their mouths and sing. But when you get a vocal coach, you’ll apply techniques to do it in a certain way. Not to say, Jon sings the wrong way. And there’s no doubt Jon has vocal coaches, but the way he expresses it gets perceived that he might not be doing it the way professional singers would advise - it’s purely out of his natural ability to sing eg. He had a wide vocal range, nice natural tone, etc. You can tell Sambora applies ‘technical’ singing a lot more than Jon. Perhaps if Jon applied it better, he wouldn’t blow out his voice. It looks like he forced a lot of his vocal power from his throat, rather than from his diaphragm.
To me, it's sort of like... technical singing is kind of like the ability to lift a car because you know exactly how to get the best leverage to lift a car. You know when to switch registers. Jon Bon Jovi, in this metaphor, would be like a guy who came along and could just straight up lift a car. That's what makes him special, IMO. He could generate power like few other singers because he was able to do things in his chest voice that most people in his vocal class (maybe a low tenor?) aren't able to do.
