Ive watched a few reactions to this and yours was the best for me so far. You are the first person ive seen watch the vid shut up and watch it again to analyze. This is the way to do it. And yes the run in the beginning will blow anybody's fucking mind.
Hey all- let me know what you think of the new single! I think it's a banger! Also, if you want to support the channel, you can get my new record right here: bit.ly/2q7sKco
They are big fans of videogames if you check their youtube channel they have "Pokemon" versions songs off their 1st ep. So I think you are valid in making the video game comparison
What has me giddy is the Wood Block triplettes all over the place syncopating perfectly inside the breathing space of the arpeggiated runs. And that one triplette trill 10-12 bars before the Bossa Nova movement. Love that shit !! **EDIT** The ending seems to me to be a resolve of the core melody. I actually love how they bring it all back around to the root melody in all the songs.
Scott's section at the beginning is like a more Flamenco version of a Django run. i think Playing God is a reference to them listening to a ton of Andrés Segovia and all the Jazz Greats and incorporating them into their sound. Japan has a pretty cool Jazz scene. check out Relive by toconoma or El Ron Zacapa by bohemianvoodoo. a lot of J-Rock bands also have more Jazz influence, like Fiction or Surrender by Polkadot Stingray. i feel like the cut to melody on synth at the end is basically their signature at this point.
Really good video. Great analysis AND a fun personality. Like others I've seen a few reactions to this song specifically and I enjoyed this one the most.
He is pulling the Son Goku style mullet, so that's the difference 😂 Great reaction, thanks for all the insights. And agree, Scott is so underrated, which is a consequence of being in a band with Tim but man, can he play. And the way they compliment each other is a match made in heaven.
Best reaction video. Tim Henson has killed my mind, but I only discovered him in 22... so, I'm all over the place freaking out. But You. You just become one of my favourite people straight out.. loved watching this, best reaction video
@@russellward4624 judging by some of the 80s mullets, id say yes. the front needs to be noticeably shorter than the back, which Tim's is, so I think his counts as one
it might take me a bit - first half really just sounds like i > bVI > V7 to me, which in the key of E minor (as I've since found out that's the key of the song) would be E minor, C major, B7 - the jazz progression in the second half would take me longer, but if you're patient, I can get back to you. Might be a fun little theory exercise for me, so I don't mind!
If any of you live in the Greater Toronto Area, come to my CD Release Show this weekend. Details here: facebook.com/events/603434091473542
oh look a reaction video that isnt the same lenght as the original video and actually gives context and insight, i enjoy this.
I really appreciate that - I aim to be different from all the other reactors out there!
The outfits made the video even cooler. Classy af

To each their own- missed those woodblocks, I'll have to go back and listen!
I've never heard that term before. What's a "wood block triplette?"
@@russellward4624 I've got no fucking idea. I've never heard of a "triplette" either. Much less a "wood block triplette".
The most sincere reaction video I’ve ever seen.

Thanks so much!
Great reaction! I loved it!!!
Thank you!
Tasteful song 👌🏻 also Tim looks great in this video
That's an understatement lol
Omg I love your reaction and analysis SO MUCH (love your crush on Tim 🤣🤣🤣) ✨✨✨😁 This song and music video are beyond amazing. 🥺❤️
I mean, Tim is so easy to crush on...
Yup. That drum fill (you know the one) was dynamite!
I subscribed for the mullet commentary
Lol thank you!
might be based on a variation of the Em scale
I'm getting Bossa Nova / Girl From Ipanema vibes in the second part.
I cannot unhear this now! Yes, I agree with you totally!
Great stuff.
Thanks so much!
The richest reaction , superb job!!
thank you!
As soon as I heard this I said it sounded like a good track from a Sega saturn game menu
OIIII THIS WAS SUCH A PLEASANT SURPRISE
glad you enjoyed it!
Great stuff, man. Subbed.
Thank you!!
tim might me the only human alive to this date that makes the mullet look fashionable
(not that I'm the one to judge such a term)
does it count as a mullet when it's long in the front?

Tim Henson said he paid a dude on Fiverr to whistle that track haha.
Fuckin love you man
Tim is def the mad genius behind it all but Scott had that Flavor bro! So tasty
Tasty af!
tim is so pretty
omg yes he is
This is the first video if yours that I'm watching, and man...you sound a lot like Jordan peterson lol :P
nice video man
I can't stand Jordan Peterson - please compare me to somebody else lol
@@mikenagoda my man
Nah Peterson sounds like Kermit
@@pleasedyes I think that's an insult to Kermit lol

Mike could you give us the chords that they're playing through in this song?

@@mikenagoda they sell their sheets/tabs on their website
@@painflare1508 yes, but then I don't learn via listening - and as I play in open tunings, tabs are useless to me anyways.
I feel bad for Clay Bass. Everyone else gets to flex left and right.
Clay is an awesome bass player! He is the flex , he doesn't need to show off.
He got to flex pretty hard in GOAT tbf
And was turned down from M.I. Unbelievable.
Tim Henson, cannot read music.
