I was born and raised in Lahore and visited Karachi in 2016. The city is huge and can be overwhelming if you are in old downtown kind of areas. But overall, the city gave me Middle Eastern vibes. The breeze in the evening in summer is a God send! Even when you land, you see desert all around Karachi and you think am I in Sharjah?

From my perspective, as an architect, you must visit the Shah Jahan mosque in Thatta. A bit of a drive but well worth it. Absolutely stunning mosque architecture from the time of the Mughal empire. One of the largest and oldest necropolis’ in the world is also nearby - Makli tombs. It was a burial places for royalty, saints, and philosophers.

Sulphur Smell: in Karachi normally if you go out on the road and experience a passing smell, it is due to supply trucks of various industries. Also Karachi is the gateway for all industrial raw materials on their way up the country.

That cathedral has hugging the convent school I attended namely, St Joseph's convent. Yes, there is a huge Parsee population in Karachi who have contributed to the city.
Karachi was lovely n the 70s and 80s.Then bs politics came along and messed Karachi up…..best time to visit Khi is in the winter months btw
This is your second time in Pakistan so I suggest you both to visit northern side of Pakistan like (kpk) province i.e swat, chitral, Peshawar etc
