*She seems cool* but the “OMG she has literally no media training!” reaction is being a little over dramatic by some people.. it’s not like she’s sharing some extremist views and dropping slurs 💀 Her image of being 'quirky' and having 'no filter' is curated by her team. Relax.
i thought that reaction was weird too. she clearly has /some/ training (the jimmy awards provide mandatory media training lmao), like how she didn’t give out enough details about the bus touring company guy to open herself up to a defamation lawsuit. she’s a theater kid with a theater kid personality and that’s all it is
@@lustforlimerence This--she definitely has media training(like you mentioned w the jimmy's). They toured her around press when she was in the musical, and they definitely gave a 19 year old media training. You can tell when she's talking that she'll say a lot but also not much at all--she's just quipping on the conversation or scenarios or where a thought led her in that moment. You can be "real" and not be spilling your info publicly lmao, plus she just has a dry sarcasm emblematic of gen z and how we speak. It's so not that serious
This always brings me back to all the outrageous and out of pocket things male rock stars have said over the decades and how culture at large has no problem with it. And yet, the girlies are torn to shreds over *checks notes* pizza, disliking love triangles and being Anne Hathaway.
I think that Renee Rapp should just continue to be herself. People deciding that they don't like her/find her annoying is unfortunately a part of the trend cycle.
at the risk of being Cringe it really is the problem highlighted in america's barbie monologue: there is literally no "right" way to be a woman in public because you are already judged as doing it Wrong, literally no matter what you do. you can't win cuz the game is rigged!!!!
Cry me a river women are their own biggest critics and detractors. Literally no significant number of dudes actually pay attention to this crap. If a dude was as obnoxious as Reneé he would've gotten the same criticism if not more. Must be hard winning a game where more women attend and graduate college than men, are hired to meet diversity quotas, and are constantly coddled and given participation trophies by society and the media at large...And before you say this is criticism, this is literal facts. Face them.
Which is so true, and I think that monologue hit so close to home for so many people, and then people online got all pressed about people relating to that. It was ridiculous.
it’s so wild to me how kanye west can be an active violent bigot for years and still get praise but if women say something that can even remotely be perceived as disrespectful it’s over
@@dasiareed2708 I think she was talking about threatening Pete Davidson (or "skeet" or whatever the heck the nickname was). I do agree that he's a bigot and a terrible person who gets excused far too often though.

yeah, but supporting womens rights and wrongs still doesn't excuse poor behavior. I'm not referring to her specifically, but that attitude can let actual bad people get away with bad things.
@@robyn00xx don't worry I know the joke, I say it sometimes too. I'm just saying be careful to not use that joke as an excuse when someone actually does smth bad. I'm not claiming you will, it's just smth I see people say a lot and it can kind of excuse celebrities from bad things they do.
I think we are so trained to judge women so harshly that I have to stop myself sometimes and think “Is this really my opinion or do I just want to be a hater right now”. You have to try to stay grounded because it’s easy to jump on the hate bandwagon. Hating on Rene will make me forget my own lack of achievements and insecurities for a minute, but is it justified, is it truthful, is it objective?
Yeah. This also reminds me of that part from the math competition in Mean Girls(2004) where Cady instinctively judges her contestant in a way Regina would, but then realises how pointless and unhelpful that mindset really is.
@spietadresiara74bc she subverts expectations by being sharp, witty, and a hot blonde. internalized shame + the general cultural hellscape of discourse makes her a woefully predictable target by men who depend on women like her to bankroll their lives by churning out low-effort rage bait to their harem of equally mentally ill fanboys. a never ending ouroboros of auto-fellatio. c’est la vie
I will not tolerate slander being thrown at her, she's funny, she's gorgeous, she seems genuenly quirky, and best of all she is NOT spewing hate nor bigotry.
@@loganlablanc1343 Wrong person to say that to, porque no solamente soy orgullosamente latino, but I also love Rachel Zegler and stand with her on her pov.
do you know about the time she went on a podcast and laughed and made fun of an employee? was laughing about making the employee cry? then doxxed her? and never apologised for it?
There was an AMAZING article a while back about the "It Girl" talking about Megan Fox, Jennifer Lawrence, etc and it said it's main issue with "It Girl" other than it fading very quickly is that nothing is sexier than something "new." You're only as popular until the next "thing" comes along. Fame is so temporary that's why it's SO important to be talented.
@@donardodavinci6126 That's a good point. It really does make me feel like people still only value a women's youth and beauty. As if we have nothing else to offer. It's honestly so frustrating.
Something I wish had been mentioned is the kinda unique it-girl moment that Margot Robbie had over 2023, particularly in terms of her decision to very deliberately step away while people still loved her rather than waiting until public opinion turned on her. I think for a lot of it girls it’s hard to know when to disengage or even how to do it, but she’s probably been the most successful at taking her flowers and leaving before people start hating her.
Emma Stone is another one who has done this quite well and figured out by taking breaks in between films and also not being on social media, which helps preserve some mystery. And being very private about her personal life is another key.
She did the same post Wolf of Wallstreet and The Big Short. I saw people labelling her a JLaw wannabe for talking about drinking beers in the shower and being a fake tomboy etc and then she disappeared before any backlash caught fire. I think she and her team pay verrrrrry close attention to the chatter about her online.
I see people are saying dont want her to take a break but deep down we all know that the hate train is just a matter of time if she stayed exposed for longer, this is not because of anything she has done or will do, it's just a cycle of internet culture against woman. I think she's totally right to do that.
Mmm the truth is Renee has a naturally extroverted and assertive personality that is a harsh switch up from the lay-back or adorkable IT girls the internet has been gobbling up for the last decade.
i never understand how it is we can see nonstop content of our favorite boys of the month and never get tired of them, while a woman can’t have her time in the limelight without being “annoying” or “snobbish” after like a week now, i stg the turnaround is only getting quicker
Because the "boys of the month" don't open their mouths or have a notable personality. I don't think I've heard Logan Lerman, Jacob Elordi, Josh Hutherson, etc give a unique opinion and that's by PR design. They're there to be cute and surface level during press and yall eat it up. It takes a lot for public opinion to turn on them because there's usually hardly any behavior or takes to be mad at them about. And once they do do something wrong, the people who are fans of them bc they're hot don't make a big fuss about "cancelling" them bc no one was emotionally invested in them and their morals to begin with.
@@BecauseIWannaComment jacob elordi literaly trashes his past works which was exactly what made rachel zegler and jenna ortega so much hated, but its quirky when he does it. another example is robert pattinson. jacob elordi also received many cheating rumours, ariana grande is being hated for months for supposedly cheating last year. the boys talk and do A LOT, you just have an unconscious bias
@@lukesouthern3640You make valid points about Jenna Ortega and Jacob Elordi, but Ariana Grande broke up a marriage and stands by her actions in her recent music. She deserves the backlash.
you missed the point and made false equivalencies when the unconscious bias is definitely coming from people blindly liking white boys of the month while being the first to criticize women. I could type an anthology but the point is that /that/ group of male celebs is liked and marketed because of their looks, not opinions which is why people don't tire of seeing them (which was the question) bc that's all most people do is "see" them. Rachel Zegler for example is hardly a recognized household name and her platform isn't just built off her being hot. Of course people that care to listen to what she says will know and react/overreact to what she's saying instead of a Ross Lynch. Her platform and marketing isn't centered around sex appeal and being mysterious and hot @@lukesouthern3640
AND when people use picture or videos of these white boys of the month it’s from any and all projects they’ve been in, not just the most recent. It’s just interesting they can have this lasting impact unlike the phases some other it girls go through in internet culture.
Sigh This poor girl is gonna get ate up when people start talking about how """rude""" she is and that she's a "pick me" for whatever trivial reason. We can already see it coming
I feel like people love celebrities who are brutally honest and real until they say something people don't like. Then people want to cancel them and say they're problematic. Goes to show how fickle the internet is.
I honestly have been supporting Renee rapp not only last year but also since she was in mean girls on broadway. I just wish her the best and hope that she’s surrounded by good people in her inner circle. My favorite candy would probably be between Kit Kat and M&M’s
Fully agree, I’ve been following her since 2019 and I just want the best for her. She seems to just be having fun now and after the year she’s had, I’m really happy for her. At the peaks of last year, she had been having a great time on tour and was so happy with her team and friend group and relationship so it was fairly sad to watch when her relationship (presumably) ended and all of her press releases were coming out where she seemed so sad and drained. I’m just happy she’s doing well again and I’m obsessed with the mean girls cast. They seem to genuinely all like each other on this press tour and I excitedly consume all content that comes out from their press run.
i absolutely hated how those women on that talk show (i think it was The Social) were calling her a diva. One of the women was like “no one’s gonna hire her because she’s difficult to work with,” but no one ever said she is difficult to work with? it literally just reeks of misogyny, like how women are often deemed a bitch or difficult in the media simply because they speak her mind. At the end of the day, Renee is harmless, and people should just enjoy her for being entertaining
I thought I could never be a celebrity bc I hate not saying what I’m thinking or feeling it’s so hard so Reneé is a breath of fresh air and makes me enjoy seeing her on my screen even more especially after calling out that man out!
I feel like Rene rapp is this kinda Frankensteined it girl, she has the rough around the edges act that people loved in Olivia Rodrigo, Jenna Ortega, and Tate McRae, this more sweet flirtatious rebound like Sabrina Carpenter, Ariana Grande, and Adele, also this good girl image but I’m gonna be more honest thing that personified Beyoncé, Britney Spears, and Taylor swift. I think her music is good I do think some songs are generic but her voice makes them worth listening too. I do like her acting but I’m more concerned that she’s not media trained to the level of fame she is getting, she has some media training but I think she’s growing faster than she’s adapting to it. I’m am intrigued to see where she goes from here
i’ve never perceived any of the artist you named as “rough around the edges” as such. they all have been in the media since children, and you can tell. they’re very well spoken & aware of how to present themselves vocally & physically on camera. if anything, i’d say this is more-so adele, as she was scooped up & expected to know how to present herself despite the fact that as being a music artist, music should & is most likely going to be your main focus. none of those people just randomly came into stardom, it was a gradual incline. they’re just still young & almost everyone at this age has space to grow into stronger public speakers. amy winehouse also had this unprepared for media, rough around the edges, personality. this is typical for artist who have never acted & mostly prioritized their music instead of trying to cultivate a following outside of their music & appease the general public. which isn’t bad, you need both if you want to be a superstar, because some people naturally have it, most need experience.
she’s literally just a woman existing. she doesn’t need this “media training” you so strangely care about. the reason she’s so likeable is because she’s a real person who doesn’t let shitty men like buddy push her around.
@@illicitvenicebno. She’s a CELEBRITY that’s just existing. She isn’t a regular woman, she is rising into stardom and the person’s concerns are extremely valid. You clearly don’t understand what they’re saying, since anything a celebrity says these days will often get them cancelled. They’re just thinking of how that will work for Renee’s career. Smh
@@xxxmaysilssss690 stop putting renee into your box. just because get easily offended by her calling out people like you, doesn't mean she has to change and doesn't mean men will successfully cancel her. they made fun of people exactly like you on her SNL episode because YOU do not get to dictate how a woman with ADHD behaves in an interview, or how a woman behaves in general. Renee has been doing interviews since she was nineteen, more media training is pointless and just treats her like a puppet. I know it might be hard for you to comprehend but celebrities are still humans, not props nor are they gods.
Exactly - I saw a tiktok of someone saying oh that won’t happen to Renee cuz she’s queer & we’re always gonna rock with her 😂😂…like mhmmm okay, the issue is building these women up to a pedestal as if they can’t do any wrong. I will say if Renee just focuses on music, that could help - I don’t think music artists are pushed to be in the press as much as actors are (unless said artist wants to be).
It's crazy how women are forced to choose between "professional serious worker that does everything perfect" or "outrageous/clumsy/relatable it-girl that is coming to end misogyny and all the evils of the world". Just like someone else said, there is no "right" answer, so they might as well have fun and live their way. I think it's also interesting the point made near the end of the video about how men are percieved in a similar way of creating a dichotomy, in this case it's more like "handsome (sometimes older) guy that everyone is thirsting on, and whose only value is how good he looks" or "weird/funny guy that may be charming because of his charisma, but is expected to be always with 100% of his energy and giving a show (either as himself or as the character he played)".
men are never expected to only be valued by his looks. most older male celebrities who are handsome are considered talented and hard working and well respected plus being handsome.
@@lukesouthern3640 Oh, I didn't mean to say the treatment for women and men is the same. I was talking about the standards which are impossed, not the results of fullfilling them. That's why I emphazised that women have "no right answer". I don't think the "price" that male celebrities pay is the same as their female peers, but it's still bad in some cases like for example, Pedro Pascal, who is mentioned in the video. While he's absolutely praised for his work, every interview I've seen of him (not too many, so maybe I'm wrong) has to mention something about his looks, sometimes to the point of simplifying him as just a good-looking older dude.
the thing that made me fall madly in love with her was this totally unique way she carries herself, something that is so refreshing in an industry where so many artists behave like robots. but i understand what you said and yes, it's a risk that she takes being a woman, but i bet she knows it and doesn't give a f-ck -- which makes me love her even more.
She's definitely a product of Gen Z's tendency to overshare and constantly strive for memeable and "iconic" moments, which you can especially see in some of the Mean Girl interviews where she seems to be talking over some of her costars. But at the same time, she's a young woman still getting to know herself so...
She just has adhd. It’s nothing crazy chill out she’s just being herself. A little ableism happening here, just because you don’t understand it yall are projecting ideas onto her character. She’s not harming anyone so stop policing her.
I think the whole "she has no media training" thing is stupid, because her having this image and saying these things could also very well be media training, they could just be telling her be yourself and be unhinged. And the things she is saying aren't even that crazy my only girl school experience allowed me to be around so many girls like Renee, but because she acts so "normal" people think she's unhinged.
Though I've heard of Renee Rapp before and was aware of her, I haven't watched any of Renee Rapp's acting projects or listened to her music, and I do not have Twitter or Tiktok, so these clips were my first introduction to her. And, to be honest, I don't really think this kind of personality is all that "refreshing." There are plenty of others who act like this, and not just women. The attention just happens to be on her at the moment. My favorite candy is Andes mints.
I was just thinking about this a few days ago, as all the Mean Girls press has shown up on my socials. It seems like a lot of people are loving her rn and calling her lack of media training "charming," but I think it is unfortunately inevitable that once the initial shine of her rising star fades, there will be backlash and we'll be seeing these same clips that people are loving rn resurfacing and being completely picked apart/criticized. It is so predictable.
I unapologetically love Reneé Rapp. I think she is one of the (if not the) most exciting young person we have coming up in the entertainment industry. I would love for her to be on Broadway again, I've loved her in all the different incarnations of Mean Girls. I thought she was tremendous in the Mean Girls Movie Musical. Snow Angel is fantastic, I'm loving it so much. I've been a fan of her for a long time now, and I don't think that'll ever stop. My favorite candy are either Reece's or Kit Kats.
Also a VERY important thing about Renee rapp was how she was FAT SHAMED while on broadway so much so some higher up demanded her playboy outfit needed to be changed so a skirt was added
IMO, the problem isn't that Renee is "brutally honest", it's that she's socially awkward. And yes, it's funny in 10 second clips for tiktok, but if you watch a full interview, it seems like she doesn't know how to talk to people or keep up the flow of conversation. Celebs like Aubrey Plaza or Nathan Fielder are really good at doing this awkward humor while still being engaging. If you can't do both it just comes across (unintentionally) like you're being kind of rude.
I actually think her recent interview with Seth Meyers and Stephen Colbert were quite good. It seems like she was enjoying her time being interviewed by then especially with Meyers. I guess Meyers knows how to keep up the conversation with a social awkward person like her and made her comfortable enough, I liked it. I actually want Renee to be the guest for Meyers' show every week 😂
True, same happened with that Bobbie Althoff girl.. she didn’t have the British / awkward humour cracked like the Amelia girl - so it just came across as awkward.
Dude nathan fielder is so fascinating to me because he acts like the worlds most awkward person but you know it requires an insane amount of confidence and self assurance to do the things he does. I WISH i was that comfortable in my awkwardness 😭
I started listening to Reneé’s music after Sex Life of Collage Girls (bummed that she is leaving😢) Some songs are amazing!! I especially like “Snow Angel”, “Pretty Girls” and “Talk Too Much”. Also, the cover to her album is GORGEOUS 😍 I’m thrilled that she’s getting more recognition through Mean Girls! Just hope the public isn’t too hard on her…
@@LifeisaBeautifulting that's how I feel too lol. She's supposed to make a couple of small appearances but not many. I might just wait until her scenes are uploaded to youtube.
Brutal honesty like that either gets someone in trouble eventually or just gets old very fast. It’s cool to act like you don’t give a fuck about how you are perceived but sooner or later it starts to matter and the whole act gets toned down.
I think not giving a fuck is not a bad thing, it's just that when you're such a public figure, you do kind of have to give a fuck a little bit if you want people to like you. It doesn't mean you should have to change who you are to conform to society's standards, but being so public does mean you have to watch yourself much more closely.
I honestly don’t think she’s acting not giving a fuck tbh, she’s said in interviews about how much she cares. I think the things she saying r just matter of fact& when it comes to leaving acting for singing, if that’s her goal, no matter how much you cared about everything else how could u give a fuck?
First, my fave candy is Reese's as well! Second, you are absolutely correct. Everyone LOVES the outspoken, tell it like it is, IT girl...until they don't. Jennifer Lawrence is the perfect example. Renee will inevitably be despised for the very things she's praised for right now. I pray she's got a good support system to help her weather that storm.
Thank you for mentioning how insane the Rachel hate is. I truly have never understood what anyone's problem with her is. So she didn't like Snow White growing up, who cares? The relentless bullying over her simply stating her opinion is getting out of control.
There is this weird take people have when someone either joins a long-running franchise or a remake which is that they MUST BE a massive fan of said property to act on it which is, like, not a thing. The biggest example of it being Daisy Ridley for Star Wars because god forbid this woman share that she had very little contact with this 40 year old franchise of movies.
yeah that whole thing was dramatic asl. they hated her for something as small as that but openly support problematic people, that’s why i can’t take them seriously.
Fully agree, it was actually really disappointing to see how much hate she started getting online for being “cringe” as someone who knew her name a long time ago as someone who used to post covers on TH-cam, especially in the musical theater scene. I was really happy for her that she was getting bigger roles because that’s huge and then everyone decided that younger actresses aren’t allowed to act their age anymore. She is inherently going to be slightly cringe because she grew up in the theater scene and she’s young, that’s no reason to hate her.
The thing is that Renee Rapp fully embraces her character type and what’s truly right for her instead of bragging about “Imma real Disney Princess”! I sure hope she’s another one to play Ursula for a future Little Mermaid production as she totally resembles Sherie Rene Scott!
I wasn’t aware of all that hate at the time but i wonder if some it wasn’t a factor of the fact that Disney live remake fatigue and hatred was already settling in and then the main character/actor says what she says, and so the only remaining enthusiastic hard core Disney nut fans are offended. Just a guess. I could be way off. It doesn’t take much to get a hate ball rolling if your segment is more niche like that.
Women get torn down for saying things that men get praised for. Look at Jacob Elordi and Rachel Zegler. They both made similar comments but got wildly different responses. People suck.
I love Renee Rapp’s music! And loved her in mean girls, I really hope she doesn’t get backlash but I could totally see it happening like you said. The worst part of it all is it’s always mostly women that will tear her down, the same way it’s mostly women who hate on the others you mentioned in this video. Literally the message of Mean Girls ironically enough 😅
Mean Girls was actually on Broadway for several years, but Renee was a replacement for the original Regina, Taylor Louderman, and Covid closed the show not long after Renee got the role.
I’ve been loosely following Renee since she did Mean Girls on Broadway, didn’t get to see her in the role but I remember seeing clips and being blown away by her voice and thinking what a fantastic replacement choice she was. It’s been cool and unexpected to see her skyrocket so quick to her current level of fame!
my issue with renee, as a woman, is her just openly saying she's ageist specifically towards older women. like wtf is up with that? that's just okay with everyone? that's not misogynistic? maybe the ageist "joke" would be funny if it was about everyone, not specifically women. maybe i'm overly sensitive, idk. i just find her saying that baffling. the hate against jlaw, anne hathaway, etc feels more random to me. i don't see people hating on renee, on the contrary people are mostly praising her. anyone who has an issue with those comments is just sensitive, apparently.
I agree 100%. We call out men who say things on their podcasts about women being past their prime after 25, but this woman says it and everyone is so quick to applaud her and agree. Even if it's not her intention, this DOES contribute to sexism and making women feel insecure about age. And the thing is, she's 24, not 14. In a mere 3 or 4 years, she's going to start seeing how society will slowly start treating her differently and make the same sexist remarks back to her. It bothers me how people say they want a girls girl but will simultaneously cheer on a mean girl (no pun intended lol).
@@cymbelinesgf millennials aren't even that much older than her, we're not talking about the elderly. she can have an issue with those people but to say you're ageist means you're generalizing everyone. it's a minority, but she's taking it out on a whole generation of women?
@@cymbelinesgf sorry i guess i just don't think going on tv and proudly stating you're ageist is funny. i'm sure if someone went on there and said oh yea i'm homophobic some gay people are mean to me so i'm just homophobic now - we wouldn't be laughing. maybe she's just not funny to me and that's okay.
Great video. I think one thing that is relevant to mention is that Reneé Rapp has ADHD. This type of communication style is consistent with that, I think the option of her inadvertently offending the internet is the more likely one in this case (unintentionally saying something offensive and consequential alienation is a common theme people with ADHD have to deal with).
The "It Girl" is a Hollywood creation from the days of Clara Bow to Grace Kelly to JLaw right up till now. The cycle seems to be getting shorter and shorter in the digital age. The Take had a great video on it last year. It always devours its subjects because Hollywood loves novelty and so does its audience. Let's hope Renee enjoys her moment, is not too problematic and transitions into a great career.
Ever noticed how Broadway kids all end up with the same rep/ personality traits? Probably due to how they are taught by teachers growing up in show biz
Yes! Theater kids/Broadway kids act different from movie actors because stage acting and movie acting are very different. When you're on stage you need to act bigger, have your reactions be more noticeable, because there's not a camera two feet from your face picking up the miniscule changes in emotion. Some people can transfer really well from stage to screen, but there is a fundamental difference in how different kinds of actors act.
It’s not wild illogical hate for minute things… it’s having someone’s media presence over saturate all of your platforms. When they do 100 interviews in a week, eventually you’re either gonna feel a little bored and or eventually they’ll say something offensive. Ya gotta find the balance. Get your name out there. Spark some buzz. And THEN disappear for a hot minute. Create some mystery. Keep us wanting more. If you keep giving more more mod and there’s no demand, there in lies the rub. My favourite candy is Reese too! And thank you for playing mirage at the end! Love that song! Love your video!
it is illogical hate because...this ''over saturated'' critique is never aimed at men. youre not being forced to watch all her interviews youre just chronically online watching her interviews.
I don't dislike her because she's "quirky" or "not like the other girls." I dislike her because she's a stereotypical theatre kid who also hates women who dared to get older. She doesn't feel earnest at all; She comes across as wildly immature with no self awareness in the worst ways.
I didn’t know much about her but after seeing her in the new Mean Girls movie I’m deff interested in checking out her music and following her career! I loved the movie and find her hilarious in the press interviews!
I think one thing that's missed is delivery and tone - you can say whatever you want but it helps if you know and care what tone and language to use in a given situation, and when to shut up, frankly. It ain't right but there it is. This applies to both men and women in the public eye.
I think I heard of her music before in passing but then I really took notice was on the Drew Barrymore show when stalker of Drew approach and Renee didn't hesitate to protect her and grabbed her and escorted her safely off stage. I'm like I like this chicks authenticity
“Keep that in your weird little freak group chat” holy shit that is the funniest and most relatable thing I’ve heard. Stan twitter needs to heed that advice My favorite candy is Twix :)
The only issue I have with this is that all of her slang is so 2023/2024 that in like 5 years it is going to sound SO dated. Like I feel like she’ll be what gen alpha point to as the “cringe zoomer” but honestly more power to her for now.
She's just being like Regina George. Funny how she says she wants to see that guy's business burn, and sings about wanting to watching the world burn in the musical and movie.
My problem isn’t with her or her music. My problem with her is that she literally went on a podcast and boasted about how she yelled at a service worker and backed her into a corner AND called her a bitch just for doing her job. That’s not something you brag about and she seems out of touch. It was just rude.
yeah, that's what i picked up on too. like there's some genuinely uncool stuff going on with her under the "memes". i just know two things can true at the same time, misogyny is absolutely real and will effect how she's perceived no matter what but she can also be genuinely off base with some things
what podcast? I haven't heard that one. can you link me or tell me the name? Everything else I've seen from her makes that sound out of character. Scratch that. I think I found it. That was a disappointing listen. That story reeks of people who've never done a service job in their life not understanding how these things work.
I wish there was a way to criticize female celebrities for how they handle being a celebrity instead of how they handle being a woman. Renee Rapp is a good example of this, and Doja Cat is an even better one. For some reason, when the internet is presented with a woman who is doing a terrible job handling her large platform, and using it to punch down, say harmful things, and disrespect her fans and incredible opportunities, the controversial thing that we all have to talk about is that she's a little quirky. THATS the problem???? That she was a little goofy and "unwomanly" in an interview???? Not that she's using her platform to spread hate??? What are we doing here??????? I'll defend Renee's and Doja's right to be "unwomanly" women until the day I die. And because thats the only conversation we seem to be capable of having right now, I spend most of my time defending them. But someday, when we decide to let them exist as people, we should probably start questioning them as professionals. Because they're really, REALLY bad professionals. To be fair, Doja Cat is definitely a better example of this than Renee. But Renee feels like she's starting to occupy a similar realm, even if its to a lesser degree.
the anne hathaway one REALLY BOTHERED me bc she’s so sweet and beautiful and she never came out and said anything about it but i know it must’ve hurt her..😢 and it was weird bc i feel like everyone bounced back around and ended up loving her again just a few months ago and don’t get me wrong i’m happy people finally came around but what was to hate to begin with??
I feel like people saying the groupthink will Turn on Renee is jinxing it. Even the women the women compared to her here feel like a false equivalence. The tide hasn't turned on Jenna, and Rachel isn't on as big a platform as Renee. The difference with Jennifer Lawrence felt like she was trying to be relatable. Nobody cared about her liking pizza, it was the vibe that she was being a pick-me and just aligning herself with trendy Tumblr quirks at the time. Renee never gives the vibe that she's trying to get people to like her or think she's relatable, she just is. I think a better comparison would be Olivia Rodrigo. Transparently, I don't really like her, but she has a similar level of "unfiltered" in interviews/appearances and it just makes people feel like she's more authentic. She's still in the public's good graces. I think the makeup of Renee's fanbase being people around her age and queer people factors in. I just hope this rapid uptick in Renee's popularity accompanied with people making takes like this already implying that her downfall is imminent aren't the reason it happens.
Ok here’s the thing… her devil-may-care attitude feels INCREDIBLY forced to me. Like she is trying extremely hard to come off as this cool girl who dgaf. It feels like she is *not* being her authentic self. I don’t hate her and I don’t mind if she is brutally honest, I just don’t understand why people specifically call out her “authenticity” as the reason they like her. She is a talented singer, but the vibe she projects in her interviews just reminds me of trying to be cool in your early 20s, before you stop caring 😂
I will never understand why the public acts like they're so powerless to these cycles. It's the audience who decides where a celebrity stands with them...
I knew nothing about her before this video. As much as I hate musicals, I had zero interest in the mean girls musical movie. But now that I saw this, I am curious and maybe would consider watching it. She seems very immature, but very authentic and like a bad ass. I’m rooting for her.
I think she comes off as an asshole, just being "brutally honest". There's literally a clip of her on a podcast few months ago telling a story about harassing a Hertz employee to the point they locked themselves inside to keep Renee away from them. That was all because the employee told her that the car she booked wasn't suppose to leave the lot and that they had to call their supervisor to confirm they can take that specific car. What made it worse was that she was laughing about it and bragging about how it "worked" because she still got the car. Hearing that story, it honestly makes me question that whole bus driver thing. Was he really an asshole and disrespectful to her and her mom? Or was it another case of someone just doing their job and that inconvenienced Renee so she freaked out on him, which lead to the driver freaking out on her? I totally agree that women are under more scrutiny in Hollywood, if they say they just did a movie for the money it's a problem, but when a guy says it it's "refreshingly honest". I never understood the backlash to Jennifer Lawrence, Anne Hathaway, Brie Larson, or Rachel Zegler. None of them really did anything that bad, but for some reason it was enough for people to just start hating them. But, Renee actually puts shit out there herself that makes her look bad, but she does it while smiling and laughing about it, so I guess that makes it okay? Like her saying she's ageist only towards millennial women, doesn't that reinforce the misogyny in Hollywood?
I would say Snickers. But Reese’s is a great choice. Had one a few days ago. My thoughts on the video, I think people could turn on Renee Rapp simply because they got bored of her and moved on to someone else. We can really be fickle 😂
ngl, I had no idea who she was. I thought she was the girl who sang the ps4 song on tik tok and was so surprised she was doing all this hollywood stuff.
I love her sm honestly and nit in a parasocisl way, loved her since the 2018 Jimmy awards ❤ personally I think her unfiltered powerfulness is PERFECT, adore her nudism I relate to her sm she’s the confidence that my anxiety won’t let me be at this moment
My favorite candy is Mike and Ike. One thing you said is very telling; this isn't an exact quote, but it was something to the effect that "these young women are trying to be relatable..." I think "trying" is the problem. Just be yourself how about that? To me, it is the "trying" part that we are able to see through and then becomes problematic. Using your example of Jennifer Lawrence; she may be irreverent and a bit silly in real life, but in interviews and such her demeanor reads as fake and disingenuous, rather than the actual personality of an actual person.
I don't understand why people act like this came out of nowhere Anne Hathaway got hated on b/c she seemed to be putting on this affectation around the time she was winning awards she also started to act a bit bougie & when you got cool girl next door J-Law it wasn't a good look. Jennifer's turn came when it started to seem like she was trying to hard to keep that aw shucks image & being rude to reporters or having Amy Schumer & Chelsea Handler as your bff's doesn't help your case either. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is doing it RN these things happen for a reason it's not till years later people like to act dumb.
Bowen Yang posted with SNL promo with Renee and Jacob Elordi and the caption was: Kinsey 3 (Renee), Kinsey 1 (Jacob), and Kinsey 6 (Bowen). I thought that was pretty clever.
She's an abusive toxic bully and she's proven time and time again to be as such. She wasn't even acting in that musical or movie. When people tell and show you who they're you should just believe them. Her career will be short lived if she don't get it tf together.
I love Renee and I really hope that her personality is not why she doesn't reach the level of fame her talent deserves. She's an amazing singer and actress, and I understand that not everyone loves her personality, that's fine, but I don't think people should neglect the obvious talent she has just because they don't like her interviews. I'll be honest, sometimes I cringe at a couple of her interview moments, but I genuinely don't care as long as shes a good person that continues to put out good music. And if she does continue acting, I'm going to be there to see it.
I have to say I'm not a fan of hers. I don't have an issue with a lot of the honesty, and certainly not with things like yawning during interviews or other moments which may lack a bit of professionalism. What does bother me about her is I've yet to see an interview (though I'm sure there're many I haven't seen) where she doesn't say something that just feels outright mean or inconsiderate - she comes off quite self-absorbed and judgemental of other people/careless about other people's feelings, so it concerns me that she's so beloved. Of course, she's very young so hopefully in time she'll grow to be kinder and more considerate, and she deserves to be given grace! I don't want this to come off like a hate comment. She's definitely very talented and I enjoy her role on College Girls a lot.
I think the Rachel Zegler and Jenna Ortega criticism has more merit than some people care to admit. Rachel saying she was scared of Snow White as a kid was rarely brought up again, it was the fact of her admitting she never watched it again after that first experience, and whether you agree with it or not a lot of people won't like to see an actor getting such a big opportunity to play such a beloved character admitting they don't have that big a bond with the source material. Now with Jenna I think it goes beyond just her, after her Wednesday castmate Percy's scandals people just got really bitter about the whole show, and her choosing to still associate herself with him by going partying with him was... a choice. I'm not justifying any of the misoginy that was directed at these two but I do believe there's room for constructive criticism.
*She seems cool* but the “OMG she has literally no media training!” reaction is being a little over dramatic by some people.. it’s not like she’s sharing some extremist views and dropping slurs 💀 Her image of being 'quirky' and having 'no filter' is curated by her team. Relax.
…… that’s the bar of media training to you?
@Anotherbrokenegg910 - *That’s crazy* it’s almost like it was an exaggeration and…. A joke?? Not to be taken literally???
I agree
i thought that reaction was weird too. she clearly has /some/ training (the jimmy awards provide mandatory media training lmao), like how she didn’t give out enough details about the bus touring company guy to open herself up to a defamation lawsuit. she’s a theater kid with a theater kid personality and that’s all it is
@@lustforlimerence This--she definitely has media training(like you mentioned w the jimmy's).
And having opinions on Snow White that used to be incredibly common and considered progressive and feminist

anne hathaway was hit so hard for seemingly no reason that one was always so strange to me, she’s beautiful, funny and super kind in interviews
And being Anne Hathaway 😂 that got me. She’s my fav actress and the media did her dirty.
@@starkidbubble2000 I was waiting for this one 💯
I think that Renee Rapp should just continue to be herself. People deciding that they don't like her/find her annoying is unfortunately a part of the trend cycle.
I agree at some point people are going to fall out of love with her so she might at well keep on being authentic
at the risk of being Cringe it really is the problem highlighted in america's barbie monologue: there is literally no "right" way to be a woman in public because you are already judged as doing it Wrong, literally no matter what you do. you can't win cuz the game is rigged!!!!
Yo' I was just thinking about that monologue watching this 😄 so true!
yeppp
Hey, stop! You're doing your comment all wrong /j

There was an AMAZING article a while back about the "It Girl" talking about Megan Fox, Jennifer Lawrence, etc and it said it's main issue with "It Girl" other than it fading very quickly is that nothing is sexier than something "new." @@donardodavinci6126 That's a good point.
It’s unfortunate it has to be that way though :/ they have to hide away while male actors can continue as long as they’d like
@@slayingmorin3171 its heart breaking. Nobody gets "tired" of the rude men in the industry. They do not get turned on.

@@lukesouthern3640You make valid points about Jenna Ortega and Jacob Elordi, but Ariana Grande broke up a marriage and stands by her actions in her recent music. She deserves the backlash.

Never change Renee. The world will think she’s cringe and annoying blah blah blah no matter what she does so I’m happy to see her just be herself!
I absolutely love her. Cant a girl be herself? She aint hurting anyone.
The bus driver: 👁👄👁
i absolutely hated how those women on that talk show (i think it was The Social) were calling her a diva.
She’s not even entertaining smh her portrayal of regina george is terrible she seems more sexy and lesbian than mean and girly
And her singing and acting is trash and boring

The best line in all her songs is the “i just want some recognition”and she sings it so welllll her music is just so genuine and vibes yk !!
the thing that made me fall madly in love with her was this totally unique way she carries herself, something that is so refreshing in an industry where so many artists behave like robots. but i understand what you said and yes, it's a risk that she takes being a woman, but i bet she knows it and doesn't give a f-ck -- which makes me love her even more.
She's definitely a product of Gen Z's tendency to overshare and constantly strive for memeable and "iconic" moments, which you can especially see in some of the Mean Girl interviews where she seems to be talking over some of her costars. But at the same time, she's a young woman still getting to know herself so...

i disagree
I really agree, her album was truly underrated!
My favorite candy are either Reece's or Kit Kats.
i absolutely adore her lmao. maybe thats just the theatre kid in me
also the clip of her singing all falls down 😍
Also a VERY important thing about Renee rapp was how she was FAT SHAMED while on broadway so much so some higher up demanded her playboy outfit needed to be changed so a skirt was added
No
I actually think her recent interview with Seth Meyers and Stephen Colbert were quite good.
Except with Seth myers, I think she’s very comfortable there
Dude nathan fielder is so fascinating to me because he acts like the worlds most awkward person but you know it requires an insane amount of confidence and self assurance to do the things he does.
It's not what you say it's how the way you say it
@@aeoligarlic4024bingo. It's all about tone
Thank you to the people who brought up the incident with her and the rental car worker; I had not heard that and that really sucks she did that
Thank you for mentioning how insane the Rachel hate is.
I actually adore Renee’s music i CANNOT lieeee
Women get torn down for saying things that men get praised for. Look at Jacob Elordi and Rachel Zegler. They both made similar comments but got wildly different responses. People suck.
I love Renee Rapp’s music! And loved her in mean girls, I really hope she doesn’t get backlash but I could totally see it happening like you said. The worst part of it all is it’s always mostly women that will tear her down, the same way it’s mostly women who hate on the others you mentioned in this video. Literally the message of Mean Girls ironically enough 😅
Love the cultural commentary always ❤ it’s always interesting where celebrities find their niche, especially for women in the public eye.
I lover her personality and music, even if other ppl fall out of love with her I’ll stick around bc she truly deserves the world
Mean Girls was actually on Broadway for several years, but Renee was a replacement for the original Regina, Taylor Louderman, and Covid closed the show not long after Renee got the role.
She reminds me of Billie Eilish. Performatively self aware
You're like very quickly becoming my favorite channel, just wanted you to know
I don't dislike her because she's "quirky" or "not like the other girls." I dislike her because she's a stereotypical theatre kid who also hates women who dared to get older. She doesn't feel earnest at all; She comes across as wildly immature with no self awareness in the worst ways.
Her personality in interviews is giving 2017/18/19 Billie Eilish. But with Billie it came across as a bit more authentic, and she was young then.
I didn’t know much about her but after seeing her in the new Mean Girls movie I’m deff interested in checking out her music and following her career! I loved the movie and find her hilarious in the press interviews!
SHE IS SOOO FINEEEEEEEEEE
I’m okay as long as this is all personality on camera and she is not treating her coworkers badly. Like that girl from Glee
I'm like I like this chicks authenticity
damn that clip of renee in the actual musical was good where do you get your slime tutorials

i feel like shes gonna slip up and say something kinda terrible one day. not wishing for this, but sometimes when you're outspoken it happens....
Regarding Reneé putting the bus driver on blast, we only know her side of the story. For all we know she could have been in the wrong.
The only issue I have with this is that all of her slang is so 2023/2024 that in like 5 years it is going to sound SO dated. Like I feel like she’ll be what gen alpha point to as the “cringe zoomer” but honestly more power to her for now.
but we are literaly in 2023;2024 lo how is that a problem

I noticed that too. The Tik Tok/Twitter phrases are so cringe to use in real life conversations, especially interviews lol
Or the ageist comment, but she's only ageist towards millennial women, older men are fine. So that's not some sort of misogyny I guess?
She thinks she's jennifer Lawrence or something lol
@@Tollkirschenkind apparently it's a hilarious joke....i'm still trying to figure out how it's funny.
yeah, that's what i picked up on too. like there's some genuinely uncool stuff going on with her under the "memes". i just know two things can true at the same time, misogyny is absolutely real and will effect how she's perceived no matter what but she can also be genuinely off base with some things
what podcast? I haven't heard that one. can you link me or tell me the name? Everything else I've seen from her makes that sound out of character.
Scratch that. I think I found it. That was a disappointing listen. That story reeks of people who've never done a service job in their life not understanding how these things work.
i love renee rapp because she's an adhd lesbian who stans santana lopez which ... (a) relatable and (b) taste
She said she was bi.
All of this!
the anne hathaway one REALLY BOTHERED me bc she’s so sweet and beautiful and she never came out and said anything about it but i know it must’ve hurt her..😢 and it was weird bc i feel like everyone bounced back around and ended up loving her again just a few months ago and don’t get me wrong i’m happy people finally came around but what was to hate to begin with??
Well she’s in her early 20’s, so maybe this IS her authentic self. She just has some growing up to do…
I will never understand why the public acts like they're so powerless to these cycles.
Jennifer Lawrence is not like the other former it girls you mentioned. She was criticized for being racist.

Reneè Rapp keeps it very real which I appreciate!
Let’s not forget how society chewed up Kristen Stewart. People are just the worst sometimes 😒
Renea rap is just following in Ariana grandes footstep. She was on a hit tv show and left to pursue her music career.
This is the first time iam hearing about her, wish her the best.

She is an icon. ❤ Period
She's divine and have only heard of her for 2 days
I feel the same.
Do you know what Percy did? I heard that something happened but I don't know what
