    I ve just bought an HP 704. As soon as I have had the first play Ive noticed that there was a problem with the A3 key. The sound was really weak or wasn’t playing at all. I’ve contacted the the retailer which will contact Roland and let me know. I hope this thing can get sorted at home. I dont really want to repackage everything again!

      I assume that it is under warranty, If so I am sure the retailer will sort it out with Roland and they should arrange for an engineer to do a in home repair. The way it worked for myself is I registered the piano on Roland's website to get the extra 10 year warranty. When it broke I used the website to register the fault and sent them the link to this video. They arranged for new parts and sent a engineer around.

    as someone said, it is wrong contact of one from two rubber conductive rubber under key (dynamic reading of key). I fight with this long time on my Roland KR-3500 and finaly I remove rubber part of this and I swap with function part from high tones. I mean from right side of keyboard where i don't play. Cleaning is good but not working always. Now i found very similar cheap keyboard with the same mechanics and I take this rubber parts from it to swap again. Hope you solve this too.

    Humidity may also be contributing to the problem. Especially when it's raining in your area. If too much moisture is present in the air, it can mess up the sensors or other parts inside the keyboard causing the sounds to clash. The good news is this issue is only temporary and the keyboard will eventually function normally without needing any repairs. My Yamaha P-115 also had the same problem and it just went away automatically after a couple of days.

    I have an old roland, had the same problem. If you take your piano apart you can clean the contacts, keys etc i used a cotten bud dampened with alcohol. I have found that Dust, hair and any tiny piece of grit will cause the noise your key is making. There are videos on you tube that tell you how to take the keyboard apart. It is not difficult.

    I am sorry that you have got this issue... could you resolve it?

    It's the rubber contacts. Do you close the lid when you are not using your HP204? Dust can get between the contacts and the circuit board. I have had this problem before with previous digital pianos. I cleaned the rubber velocity detection pads and the circuit boards with alcohol. You can use circuit board cleaner instead if you prefer. I'd probably recommend the latter. After cleaning all silicone triggers and circuit board(s), you can reapply graphite to the black discs with a soft brush (I sprayed spray graphite into a lid and used a brush to apply). The carefully put back together and it should work like a dream.
    Warmest regards

    Had this problem and sprayed Deoxit 5, let it set for about a day and hasn’t done it since.

    I'm, looking to buy a digital piano and I'm thinking of getting the HP704, what is your opinion about it after using it for a few years? (apart from the problem with the key, which is fixable. What can you say about its sound?)

    • @johny_mac
      @johny_mac  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The HP704 is a great starting piano though I a little biased towards acoustic pianos now after playing the Kawai for a year now. Although not cheap the HP704 is the high end of the budget digital pianos from Roland. With digital pianos you are not going to get the same feel as a acoustic unless you want to pay big time and get a NV5s or NV10s. The sound of the HP704 is decent enough and has the advantage that it doesn't need tuning.

    Perhaps the Yamaha CLP-745 might be a better alternative?

    Compared with Kawai CA49, which one would you preferred? The price is same

    • @johny_mac
      @johny_mac  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wouldn't know as I have never played on a CA49 but I do wish I would have spent a little more money when I first got a digital piano and got a Kawai CA99. Now I have a Kawai K300 Aures and nothing comes close to the feel and sound of a real piano.

      Hi Roberta, Yes I did get it sorted out. Fortunately it was was still under warranty as I had got the 10 year warranty. It was just a matter of jumping through a few hoops to get Roland to send out an engineer and fix it.

      @@johny_mac That's great to hear. The service from Roland and 10 year warranty is the best you can get in the market of digital piano's.

    Have you tried to factory-reset the piano ?

    • @johny_mac
      @johny_mac  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A tech was sent out by Roland and it has now been fixed. Apparently the sensor for the key press is more or less the same as a computer keyboard hence designed to fail at some point.

      Roland or kawai

    • @johny_mac
      @johny_mac  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@AliAhmed-kk8lt I much prefer the Kawai as it is a accoustic piano but I wish I would have got a purely accoustic rather than the Aures. I would miss the silent option though as I practice in the morning with headphone while it's early. Even in silent mode you still have the touch of a acoustic and beleive me you can tell the difference between the Kawai and the Roland regardless of what the manufacturers say. The choice of acoustic or digital is partly subjective and influenced by budget and space. I would love a grand piano but neither have the budget nor the space.

      I wish people say about Kawai pianos as well, problem is, Kawai had many hates for Roland bandwagon.
      Leave us alone, we love out sampled pianos.

    Change out the rubber contact strip, you should clean the contact circuit board with alcohol , and thoroughly clean out all the dust.

    Möglich ist das Wasser da reingekommen ist. Ich hatte es beim Kunde, der über dem E Piano Zimmerpflanzen hatte die es zwischendurch gegossen hat. Dabei sind ein paar Tropfen Wasser auf die Tastatur gefallen. Der Kontakt oksidirt und dan gibt es diese Probleme. Es sind mehrere kleine Kontaktplatinen auf der Rückseiten der Tastatur die untereinander verbunden sind. Die kleine Platine kann man austauschen und vom Ende der Tastatur nehmen. So habe ich es gemacht.

      No it wasn't water damage. I have a 10 year extended warranty on the piano so when the engineer came around he just swapped out the middle pcb and said it was wear and tear due to the fact that in his opinion I have been playing so much. May also have been dust and dog hair. Anyway it's fix now.

    My electric piano used to do that because it was deliberately sabotaged by ex friends and family. Count your blessings.
