I'll never tire watching people discover the Righteous Brothers .... Watching them on Andy Williams is the most fun because they joke and dance around. It always surprises people when Andy chimes in but it IS his show ...
These two complemented each other perfectly. Bill's thundering baritone and Bobby's flowing tenor were musical magic. One of, if not the greatest duo in history.
Bill's thundering baritone, and Bobby's flowing tenor were magic together. Angela, they were not biological brothers, it was a name given to them because they sounded "righteous" to some folks.
Sadly he had some major problems personal and professional. He gave up his Rights to "Unchained Melody" and he lost a chance to make Bank when it was featured in Ghost and The Wonder Years. He was addicted to Cocaine and he also ran a Golden Oldies Style Restaurant. In 1981 he and Bill Medley sang Rock & Roll Heaven on The American Bandstand 30th Anniversary Special and they paid homage to the Signers who died from Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and the like. They are "Not" Brothers, they got their start when they were performing at Navy Bases in San Francisco and the Mostly Black Audience would clap and say "That's Righteous Brothers" and the name stuck. This was their Second Number One Hit the first of course being You've Lost That Loving feeling. Yet it was their Second collaboration with Barry Mann/Cynthia Weil. The Show they are on is Hullaballoo a popular Rock Sow from the 1960's where each week someone Guest Hosts. That week it was Nancy Sinatra who described them as two guys who did inspiring interpretations fo Soul Music.
@@laminage You need to do some real research. Bobby was NOT a cocaine addict! The night of his death, he and Bill flew in from L.A. Bill wrote in his book that Bobby looked bad. He said that he would have dinner in his room. Bobby had a huge appetite. Drug addicts don't eat a lot. When they found him, he was in his bed with the tv remote in his hand. No drugs in the room. Bobby had 95pct. blockage in his major arteries. Autopsy was a false positive. No one could perform, year after year for over 40 years like Bobby did, and be strung out on drugs. He he didn't pay attention to his health, was a heavy smoker. Bobby was tired. He needed to rest. Bill said that if he had thought that Bobby was hooked, he would have done something. You don't work closely with someone for over forty tears and not know that something is wrong.
“The Righteous Brothers” are considered by most to be the Greatest Male Vocal Duet Of All Time. I agree. Between Bill Medley’s Lows and Bobby Hatfield’s Highs they can hit every note on an 73 key piano. No other male singers can do that. Legendary. “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’’ was the most played song on radio in the 20th Century "Unchained Melody" - Bobby Hatfield Live 1965 Andy Williams Show (with his mother sitting right behind him) Considered by most as The Greatest Live Male Vocal Performance In History... I agree. Bobby’s use of “Runs” is masterful. He created the style and set the table that all others have fed off of for decades. 7 notes just to say the word “I” is melodic brilliance. Their name came from doing a show near a marine base in So Calif and a black marine said to them…. You two guys are Righteous Brothers. In 1983, in Newport Beach O.C. Calif. Bill and Bobby at the Jolly Roger Restaurant . I was 13 feet away for... "Unchained Melody"- "You've Lost That Lovin Feeling" - "Soul And Inspiration".... They were perfect, awesome, amazing, incredible......
I'm 67, I remember the Righteous Brothers, they were called Blue eye soul artist. Here are other songs recorded by them. You lost that loving feeling, Unchain Melody, Just once in my life( which is my favorite) they also did, Hey girl. Also done by Freddie Scott. Anyway, there was Dusty Springfield, you don't have to say you love me. Gerry and the Pacemakers, Don't let the Sun Catch you Crying. There's the Walker brothers, Don't Sun ain't shine anymore. Just a few for you to listen to. Peace Everyone.
Bill Medley's voice is absolutely heavenly. By the way, his speaking voice sounds just like his singing voice. Imagine hearing him on the phone. No they are not related. This sing is one of my favorite. Thank you for posting this.🥰🥰❤❤
If this is your first foray into The Righteous Brothers, here are a few other songs you should check out: Unchained Melody You've Lost That Loving Feeling I Just Want To Make Love To You And many more.

Girl is screaming for true Love! In a time not long ago, Women were treated as the Gift they are, and Men wrote lyrics like this to express that!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thx Angela! The Everly brothers (actual brothers) influenced so many other artists. If you like family harmonies they would be fun to see your reaction! -Terry
The Righteous Brothers is the name of their duo group. They adopted the name from some Black Marines who came to see them perform at a club somewhere in CA which they referred to them as the righteous brothers whenever they came to see them perform and had communication with them as well; so, they decided to take the nickname these Black Marines gave them as the name of their group, according to Bill Medley. He's the singer with the deep voice.
They were the best!! Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield, Blue eyed Soul. I saw them when I was a teenager. And have never forgot them. Bobby Hatfield could also get down even though he was a tenor!!!
The duo was playing in a club one night and a member of the audience told them," Fellas, that was righteous!", and thus became the name of the best blue-eyed soul group to ever be.
The Righteous Brothers got their name in southern California from some African American Marines who said "You Brothers are Righteous. Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield were not biological brothers. I referred to them as the "Blue Eyed Brothers of Soul" on my radio show. Too bad we lost Bobby Hatfield in 2003. They are back together and they still sound great with Bills' new partner Bucky Heard. I just met and spoke with Bill Medley last week in Laughlin Nevada. They are now in Las Vegas performing right now.
Actually it was black singers who dubbed their music as blue eyed soul. And if you didn't see them and and just heard them, you'd swear that that was a couple of brothers, as in black singing.
To see another side of the Righteous Brothers and to truly appreciate their talent and range, you should react to them singing "I Just Wanna Make Love To You."
Angela, I've recently discovered your channel, and I appreciate the emotions you lift from so many songs, especially those by Karen Carpenter. I think you would enjoy and appreciate "At This Moment" by Billy Vera and the Beaters.
Hello Angela, you should listen to Simply Red- Holding back the years, Paul Young-Every time you go away or Ray, Goodman and Brown- Special Lady (1979).
Baritone is Bill Medley and his partner is Bobby Hatfield. Two more of their tracks you should listen to are "Ebb Tide and ""I Just Want To Make Love To You."
They are not real brothers, the tall one is Bill Medley, he is a baritone with a large range of notes that he can sing, the shorter one is Bobby Hatfield, he is a tenor/contra-tenor with a very large range. If you have interest in an analysis, try Wings of Pegasus for several analyses of different singers including Bobby Hatfield singing Unchained Melody.
This particular video has a rather tinny audio quality; listen to the studio version to really be blown away! I believe that Bill is a baritone and Bobby (deceased) was a tenor, fyi. My much older sis (11 yrs my senior) used to hang at a bar off Sunset Strip that the "Brothers" (and Little Richard!) frequented, and she was always aflutter when their names came up, like 95% of the post-pubescent female pop in the USA...
This is a great song, timeless. Thank you for playing this. This is how I felt when my first love and I broke up. It is definitely very moving. Maybe I am the only one who can relate to this but probably not.
Bobby Hatfield tenor, bill medley baritone.blue eyed soul.bill said this was his favorite song of theirs.bobby s left is several years ago but bill still performs.
Loved your reaction Angela! Since you like that baritone of Bill, you should react to You'll Never Walk Alone. Also, I think you'll like Bobby singing I Believe. Really enjoy your reactions!
Actually, according to their biography, they were playing an all black club down near the marine corps base in San Diego. Originally, the audience, who were all black Marines, were shocked and angry because here were these 2 white guys that came on stage. Bobby and Bill were both afraid and didn't know what to do, so they just started singing. After the first notes, the Marines all got quiet and listened, and after they finished singing, some of the Marines stood up and started yelling that that was righteous, brothers, and the duet liked it so well that they just went with it. Originally, they didn't know what they were going to call themselves, but they liked the name, so they kept it. 🤣🤣💯
I like to see the reaction to my type of music. I think the music from the 50's, 60's and 70's is the best! It had the best love songs! Check out The Ice Man, Jerry Buttler! One I know you will love is "Let It Be Me" with Betty Everett! I know you will love it! Jerry Buttler is so Cool that he got called The Ice Man! I really think you will love his music. You like the deep voice of the Righteous Brothers, You will love Jerry Buttler!
They were singing in a small club just off El Toro Marine Base in El Toro, Ca. Frequented by Marines, a lot of them Black, they were then known as The Paramours. One night a Black Marine shouted, "That's righteous, brother." A little later, Bobby suggested that they call themselves The Righteous Brothers," Never was a greater duo, never will be. If they had called themselves Stan and Ollie, I would love them just as much! Especially that blue eyed Blonde Bomber, Bobby Hatfield1
here's a couple or three for you, but you got some homework for the first two, so you get the references. learn about buddy holly, otis redding (if you haven't heard dock of the bay, it's a must), janis joplin, jimi hendrix (do at least two of his songs - incredible guitarist), the beatles (if you haven't already), the rolling stones (if you haven't already), the byrds (try eight miles high and turn, turn, turn - amazing vocal harmonies and 12 string guitar), then listen to rock and roll heaven (righteous brothers), and american pie/the day the music died (don mclean). after that, bridge over troubled water (simon and garfunkel), and for a treat listen to bridge over troubled water (gladys knight).
Bill and Bobby is one of the best duo's of all time and I know some will disagree and that's fine. RIP Bobby
I agree with you. They were awesome!!!
No argument from me!
When you get to call yourself the Righteous Brothers, and nobody, and I mean NOBODY disputes it, you're in GOAT level status.
I wouldn’t argue with that.
Their voices perfectly complemented each other.
Love songs back in the day really showed reverence to the women.
I'll never tire watching people discover the Righteous Brothers .... Watching them on Andy Williams is the most fun because they joke and dance around. It always surprises people when Andy chimes in but it IS his show ...
I will never forget that night on Andy's show. Fell in love, still am.
Solid Gold never loses its shine...One of the best ever....
It's always the same. Women reaction with big smiles and dreamy eyes.
The best male vocalists of all time - my opinion
Our kids are yearning to hear that they are someone's love, someone's inspiration. someone's forever love.
Great duo. Timeless classics.
Timeless!

Their voices were so good together I think I could listen to a whole song of them humming like at the end of this one lol

Made it to #1 in 1966 and deservedly so!!!
They are NOT brothers. The deep voice is Bill Medley and the other is Bobby Hatfield. You are doing a great job and are easy on the eyes !
Great song.
Beautiful reaction
Please be aware these are their real voices as this was a live performance.
I agree with you completely.....Bill Medley's deep, rich baritone voice is so great, much more manly than Bobby Hatfield's high tenor
Good music never goes out of style. 💯
" just once in my life " has to be next from them ❤️
My wedding song
Just the name of the group. The singer with dark hair and deeper voice is Bill Medley, the blond with the higher voice is Bobby Hatfield.
Righteous they are! Those two were born to sing together. Great review, young lady!

In case you didn't know, Bobby the Tenor passed away some years ago. Sad day for that Music.
My eyes adored you. And yeah that would be a good song to react to. My eyes adored you by Frankie Vallie and the 4 seasons.
Just pure raw talent🙂

Bill Medley ( deep voice) and Bobbie Hatfield.
Not actual brothers, but a great duet. One is still alive today.
Bill Medley - Bass Baritone
Bobby Hatfield - Countertenor
I think they got their name when a woman heard them sing and remarked "That's Righteous!"
Loved slow dancing to this song. They had a lot of hits.
