I think that for places like Svalbard it’s more about seasonal depression than about the temperature. First you live without sunlight at all then it’s light all the time…it’s disconcerting for a human body.

The old adage of "variety is the spice of life" holds a great deal of truth. While I'm often a creature of habit, I too can find myself feeling quite stagnant, or even emotionally distressed, without the occasional shifts to my environment. I was just saying to my husband today how having longer and hotter days now (in south-western Ontario Canada🇨🇦) is a bit of a throw off. It tricks me and our children. In the winter we settle down earlier and it gets darker earlier and there is something very cozy and comforting about it. I had said to him imagine that in Svalbard there is 24 hours of sun and on top of that if one has children to keep on a schedule. I can only imagine how much it could throw anyone off. Glad you got away and thank-you for taking us along. What a gorgeous place to go to 🌴
It’s amazing watching these videos from a screened in hut in the jungle in Hawaii where its sunny all year round, the only season really is rainy season. Outdoor shower, outdoor toilet, feeling the warm breeze through the trees and the crickets chirp. So much life over here. The contrast to the beautiful of the arctic is wonderful. God is good. We should switch places sometime! I too get island fever, even in one of the most sought after places to live! It’s small, not much going on, quiet, peaceful.

Hi, Cecilia! I'm from the tropical part of India, where it's green and warm all year round. However, the Himalayas are just a few hours up north, where it can be -20C even in the summer. This is how I find my mix of escape and regular life. Thank you for the great videos! Love from Bengal, India.

I totally agree with you on the midnight sun issue. I loved the polar nights in the Yukon, but the midnight sun is beautiful but incredibly exhausting.

I remember living in Russia for a summer and the midnight sun was brutal. I’m someone who loves natural light but having it for so much was really hard. We started out in Finland and I don’t think I slept a single night due to the constant sun. It’s one of those things I’m not sure you’ll understand until you experience it. I totally get needing a break from it!
I think it says a lot about Cecilia being quite a unique creature that she seems far more uncomfortable with sun than with months of constant darkness. In my country during winter it gets dark at 4 PM at it makes me sooo depressed, I could not imagine getting happily through the polar night.
Seems that Poland has a time zone 🕰🗺 for 1 hour behind of its real astronomical one. 🤔 I have already thought that time that like in Finland would be better both for 🇵🇱 and 🇸🇰.

What a change in environment. The day I left Indiana and the states, we had 15 inches of snow. And some of the Ticos here in Costa Rica have never seen snow, or sleet or ice covered roads. When I go "home" I go in the summer. I never want to fall on my butt again on the ice.If I fall now, the only ice I want involved is in my Margarita glass It was fun seeing you in summer attire with a palm tree nearby. But since I am surrounded by palm trees, I have to say I prefer seeing you in the beauty of the frozen north. You look beautiful against the backdrop of that Midnight Sun. i lived a half year on a island, and together one year on duty in foreign country, so i can feel with you. what helped me, especially on duty, where you can't leave as you want... what helped me was writing for myself, doing sport or listen to music or combinate two of them...

15:00 It's makes a lot of sense. Sunshine on Svalbard is never very intense. In spring it is just a constant light in the sky and in peak summer it reaches only a mild warming effect. In Portugal you can feel the intense radiation on your skin. Another way to look at it is the different wavelengths. On Svalbard the light has to travel through a lot of atmosphere. UV and blue wavelengths get scattered far more then in Portugal where the light goes pretty direct from space to the surface.
A day in the life sounds great! I’ve always loved seeing your “home away from home” when you go on your trips. Have wanted to buy a home in Portugal for a long time!
As someone who loves fall and winter Svalbard seems perfect to me. But I also love the beach and I understand wanting a change of scenery. You can absolutely love where you live but need a breather from it 😅

I studied abroad in Copenhagen last fall and totally get it! I visited Lisbon for a weekend and the sun felt SO good and it totally feels different.

I live in Northern Ireland, and we have darkness in the summer for about 5 hours, which really throws me off. I can only imagine how 24/7 light affects you.
It is so awesome to wake up in the Tennessee Smokies and with a few clicks go to Svalbard and Portugal.. You are wonderful and I appreciate this channel. I hope the boys enjoy their time together also..

Heya love the videos as always!! I was wondering if you would ever do a video on cold-weather clothing. I would be interested to know what types of clothing and layers you need, alternative substitutes, general cost, what you need to wash and dont need to wash, how the different weather affects it, mobility, any hacks or tips, how the activity affects what you wear. Its something i have no concept of and would be useful if i ever go to a colder place or skiing or something!!
I love this idea! It's definitely a skill to learn and makes being outside in cold weather so much more enjoyable and doable!

My daughter loves Portugal. She has visited numerous times from the US and says thats where she wants live permanently. We are in Florida so we have beautiful weather here and the beaches also but shes in love eith portugal! ❤️

i lived a half year on a island, and together one year on duty in foreign country, so i can feel with you. what helped me, especially on duty, where you can't leave as you want... what helped me was writing for myself, doing sport or listen to music or combinate two of them...

I love your channel. Found it on TikTok, congrats for doing so good! Being from New York and getting all 4 seasons, I could NEVER do what you do. Also, you stay so healthy! In the winter I just want to cuddle up and eat bad, lol. It's GREAT you have your parents to get away once in a while. It's also important to give each other alone time. You guys are doing it!

15:00 It's makes a lot of sense. Sunshine on Svalbard is never very intense. In spring it is just a constant light in the sky and in peak summer it reaches only a mild warming effect. In Portugal you can feel the intense radiation on your skin.
Another way to look at it is the different wavelengths. On Svalbard the light has to travel through a lot of atmosphere. UV and blue wavelengths get scattered far more then in Portugal where the light goes pretty direct from space to the surface.

As someone who loves fall and winter Svalbard seems perfect to me. But I also love the beach and I understand wanting a change of scenery. You can absolutely love where you live but need a breather from it 😅

nice that you are sharing your family with us , i was in Portugal many years ago to look and see the big waves that are there , i was very lucky to travel many places to surf , but i lived out of a duffel bag , i work at many jobs to pay for my travels , but now i am old guy and its nice to just relax , i like that Christopher takes things for what they are , you are both different but it is easy to see just how much you both enjoy life together , every day is a gift so enjoy each one and always say what you think to others , be safe , be well , enjoy life
