As much as I love living on Svalbard, sometimes it can be come suffocatingly small. Which is probably to be expected when living on a teeeeeny tiny island in the arctic. In this video I talk about it and we also get to hear from my best friend Mikaela who visited me this year. I’m actually more of a fall/winter person. I hate it when it is too hot. So Svalbard intrigued me. I admire Cecilia for just being who she is and her personality is one that she would be a wonderful friend. Cecilia, you have such a wonderful personality! I think that for places like Svalbard it’s more about seasonal depression than about the temperature. First you live without sunlight at all then it’s light all the time…it’s disconcerting for a human body.

My parents were married for 46 years before dad passed away. But I remember him sharing that one of the key things to the success of their long-lasting marriage is time away from each other every now and then. Good that you and Chris can enjoy 'me' time now and then. Another great video also! You should do instructional videos on storytelling technique, you are a natural!

While I'm often a creature of habit, I too can find myself feeling quite stagnant, or even emotionally distressed, without the occasional shifts to my environment. It’s amazing watching these videos from a screened in hut in the jungle in Hawaii where its sunny all year round, the only season really is rainy season. Outdoor shower, outdoor toilet, feeling the warm breeze through the trees and the crickets chirp. So much life over here. The contrast to the beautiful of the arctic is wonderful. God is good. We should switch places sometime! I too get island fever, even in one of the most sought after places to live! It’s small, not much going on, quiet, peaceful.
Hi, Cecilia! I'm from the tropical part of India, where it's green and warm all year round. However, the Himalayas are just a few hours up north, where it can be -20C even in the summer. This is how I find my mix of escape and regular life.

I think it says a lot about Cecilia being quite a unique creature that she seems far more uncomfortable with sun than with months of constant darkness. In my country during winter it gets dark at 4 PM at it makes me sooo depressed, I could not imagine getting happily through the polar night.
Seems that Poland has a time zone 🕰🗺 for 1 hour behind of its real astronomical one. 🤔 I have already thought that time that like in Finland would be better both for 🇵🇱 and 🇸🇰.

Snow on the ground makes a huge difference, it brightens up the long night when the stars and Moon reflect off of it.

I remember living in Russia for a summer and the midnight sun was brutal. I’m someone who loves natural light but having it for so much was really hard. We started out in Finland and I don’t think I slept a single night due to the constant sun. It’s one of those things I’m not sure you’ll understand until you experience it. I totally get needing a break from it!
I totally agree with you on the midnight sun issue. I loved the polar nights in the Yukon, but the midnight sun is beautiful but incredibly exhausting.
Everything you post is pure entertainment, you have a very diverse personality and the sophistication mixed with education mixed with comical commentary always makes for a good adventure. I especially love hearing the different cultures come out in your blog's.... Especially the few Aussie ones of late! You do you wonderful gal.... At 25 I took a contract in Bermuda a 22 sq mile island that I had never seen. 22 years later I am still here. While vastly different, I find similarities in your island life a expat world. I really enjoy your videos.

I was just saying to my husband today how having longer and hotter days now (in south-western Ontario Canada🇨🇦) is a bit of a throw off. It tricks me and our children. In the winter we settle down earlier and it gets darker earlier and there is something very cozy and comforting about it. I had said to him imagine that in Svalbard there is 24 hours of sun and on top of that if one has children to keep on a schedule. I can only imagine how much it could throw anyone off. Glad you got away and thank-you for taking us along. What a gorgeous place to go to 🌴

It's like Hawaii which is a beautiful place to live but coming from the mainland after awhile you get what they call rock fever, you go this way it's ocean, if you go that way it's ocean, stuck on an island with no place else to go not unless you get on an airliner. At least on the mainland you can drive a number of hours and you can be in a different environment and atmosphere.
Portugal is amazing and your parents'house just fantastic! But the Svalbards have a special and unique charm. They are two different and wonderful worlds! Grim and Christoff will certainly miss you. Thank you so much for this awesome video.

I studied abroad in Copenhagen last fall and totally get it! I visited Lisbon for a weekend and the sun felt SO good and it totally feels different.

As someone who loves fall and winter Svalbard seems perfect to me. But I also love the beach and I understand wanting a change of scenery. You can absolutely love where you live but need a breather from it 😅

Heya love the videos as always!! I was wondering if you would ever do a video on cold-weather clothing. I would be interested to know what types of clothing and layers you need, alternative substitutes, general cost, what you need to wash and dont need to wash, how the different weather affects it, mobility, any hacks or tips, how the activity affects what you wear. Its something i have no concept of and would be useful if i ever go to a colder place or skiing or something!!
I love this idea! It's definitely a skill to learn and makes being outside in cold weather so much more enjoyable and doable!
I’m just back from a 10 day trip to Portugal. It’s beautiful. It honestly done me a world of good and I’m sure it will you to! Enjoy the small things!!
It must be nice to just go outside and not have to spend 10 minutes getting dressed in warm clothes first. I live in Wisconsin and that is one thing I love about summer - you can just get up and go outside. Happy re-charging in Portugal.

What a change in environment. The day I left Indiana and the states, we had 15 inches of snow. And some of the Ticos here in Costa Rica have never seen snow, or sleet or ice covered roads.
When I go "home" I go in the summer. I never want to fall on my butt again on the ice.If I fall now, the only ice I want involved is in my Margarita glass

I love your channel. Found it on TikTok, congrats for doing so good! Being from New York and getting all 4 seasons, I could NEVER do what you do. Also, you stay so healthy! In the winter I just want to cuddle up and eat bad, lol. It's GREAT you have your parents to get away once in a while. It's also important to give each other alone time. You guys are doing it!
I think the that whatever stress is brought on by the time without night and the time without day is compensated by some of the most awe inspiring scenery I've ever seen.
